3 Welcome to Competitive Gymnastics These guidelines will provide information for your upcoming competition season. Included you will find competition dates, approximate costs, uniform requirements and some competition rules. We hope that your daughter has an enjoyable and successful competition season and wish you all the best of luck! Your Commitment to Energetic Gymnastics As representatives and members of Energetic Gymnastics Club all gymnasts and their families agree to openly demonstrate and support the club values of; Energy, enthusiasm and enjoyment. Freedom, independence and responsibility. Optimism, confidence and continual improvement. Respect, courtesy and open-mindedness. Codes of Conduct It is an expectation that all parties strictly adhere to these rules of competition etiquette (extracted from the Gymnastics Victoria Year Book); - Gymnasts and coaches are not permitted to have any contact with spectators during the competition. Possible penalty: team or individual disqualification. - Those not taking part in the running of the competition must not enter the competition area. Possible penalty: removal from the venue. - If medals are won they must be left on until all gymnasts have left the competition area. Possible penalty: team or individual removal of medals Energetic Gymnastics 3
4 Team Selection The Head Coach and Squad Gym Coordinator are responsible for selecting teams for each competition. In most cases there will be an A team and a B team. For local or friendly competitions there may be mixed teams. Energetic Gymnastics will not disclose the A or B team to parents or gymnasts. It is an expectation that parents will not discuss team selection with other parents or their children. Teams will be selected with the best interests of the gymnasts and the club in mind. Please note, gymnasts that have not been training Squad Gym from the start of the year may not be eligible to compete in the 2014 season. State Pennant Finals There are many teams that compete at the State Pennant Qualifiers. So many in fact, that the competition is split over two competition venues, Waverley Gymnastics Centre in Mount Waverley and MLC Gymnastics Club in Kew. This year the levels will be split between the two venues and are as follows; - Waverley Gymnastics Centre; Level 1P, NDP1 and NDP2 - MLC Gymnastics Club; Level 2P, 3P and NDP3 (P= Preparatory division, capped training hours per week) (NDP = National Development Program, uncapped training hours per week) Throughout term one the Squad Gym Coordinator and coaching team will determine the most appropriate competition division (P or NDP) for each gymnast. The top six teams from each level go through to the finals. It is extremely tough to get through to the finals, and any result is a great achievement. It takes a lot of courage for a young gymnast to stand in front of a large crowd and present their routines. Parents should be proud regardless of the result; it is the effort that we should praise Energetic Gymnastics 4
5 Advice for Squad Gym Parents Do - Encourage and praise your child for doing their personal best, whether or not they receive a medal - Congratulate all gymnasts and coaches no matter what the result. Gymnasts and coaches always try their best, and should be congratulated regardless of the result. - Set a good example by showing good sportsmanship. - Remember, it s not about winning; it s about how you play the game. - Say thank you to your coach, they put in so much extra time and effort and a thank you means so much! Don t - Don t question the judge s decision. - Don t compare your child to others in the team or competition. - Don t be disappointed in your child, even if they are disappointed in themselves. - Don t focus on medals (no one can control the competitors or judges). - Don t question coaches on scores; it s your job to provide support to your child and the coach s job to evaluate the scores. Don t call coaches after a competition to discuss results (only call in an emergency). - Don t ask questions about other gymnasts except your own. - Don t bribe your child. This is unfair pressure and inappropriate. Children always try their hardest at competitions and that is all that matters. - Don t make negative comments about other clubs Energetic Gymnastics 5
6 Competition Entries & Uniform Payment of Entry Fees Energetic Gymnastics is required to pay full competition entry fees for all gymnasts in advance. Base competition entry fees are set by the event organisers and in most cases can only be refunded (in part) upon presentation of a medical certificate. An additional levy is included with the competition entry fee to cover operational expenses such as coach s wages and travel. All Squad Gym parents are kindly asked to make full payment by Monday 2 June. Invoices for holiday training and competition entry fees will be sent via prior to this date, however the fees information below is available to assist with budgeting. Competition fees that are not paid in full by this date will incur a 5% administration surcharge. Families that are unable to attend a competition are required to advise the club in writing as soon as possible. Energetic Gymnastics will only enter gymnasts into competition once full payment of entry fees and the current term s tuitions fees have been received. Uniform All Squad Gym members are required to have the Energetic Gymnastics Club uniform. This consists of; - Club tracksuit (Addidas), $145 Inc. GST - Club t-shirt, $TBC - Level 1-3 hot pink leotard (no sleeves), $45 Inc. 7 Competition Attendance & Presentation Attendance All gymnasts are expected to arrive at the competition at least 15 minutes prior to the advertised start time for general warm up. Late arrival may result in team or individual disqualification. Please allow sufficient travel time for metropolitan events and be prepared for unexpected traffic conditions that may cause delays. This includes; - Full club uniform - No jewellery - No nail polish - Clean hands & feet - No make-up - Hair must be in a high tight bun with matching hair tie (loose hair or hair that may fall out part way through the competition is unacceptable). - No underwear is to be worn under the leotard (points will be deducted points if it shows) 2014 Energetic Gymnastics 7
