2 ABOUT MIRACLE LEAGUE In 1998, the coach of Rockdale Youth Baseball Association, in Rockdale, Georgia, invited the first child with a disability to play baseball on his team. Michael, a 7-year-old child in a wheel chair, attended every game and practice while cheering on his 5-year-old brother. In 1999, other children with disabilities were invited to play baseball on a typical baseball field within the baseball complex of the Rockdale Youth Baseball Association. The players had expressed the desire to dress in uniforms, make plays in the field, and round the bases just like their main stream peers. The league began with 35 players on four teams that first year. There were no programs to copy. It was decided that: Every player bats once each inning All players are safe on the bases Every player scores a run before the inning is over (last one up gets a home run) Community children and volunteers serve as buddies to assist the players Each team and each player wins every game The Miracle League was born and is flourishing today. Presently, there are 300 Miracle League Organizations across the country and including Puerto Rico, Canada and Australia. The Miracle League is proud to serve more than 200,000 children and young adults with disabilities. THE INAUGURAL ALL-STAR WEEKEND Youth sports associations across the country have the opportunity to be invited to or earn their way into championship games, World Series and All-Star games. Why not our amazing Miracle League athletes? We all deserve the chance to be an All-Star! The first ever Miracle League All-Star game will be held September 14-16, 2018, in Findlay, Ohio, at the Blanchard Valley Health System Miracle Park. Each Miracle League organization has the opportunity to select one player to attend this once in a lifetime opportunity. Local Miracle League organizations are responsible for registration fees and transportation to Findlay, with all other expenses covered through sponsorships and donations. Upon arrival, players will experience an All-Star Weekend like no other. Activities include: Welcome Reception, Opening Ceremony, Introduction of Players, All-Star games, and an Awards Gala. The City of Findlay and the Miracle League of Findlay are teaming up with generous sponsors to make a difference in the lives of All-Star athletes. The Miracle League provides the opportunity for children with special needs to play and enjoy the game of baseball. This year, the first ever Miracle League All-Star Celebration is being hosted at the Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) Miracle Park in Findlay, Ohio. Youth from leagues around the country will be coming to Findlay on September 14-16, 2018, to enjoy a weekend like no other. To make this a success, we need your help! Join us as a volunteer. WELCOME CREW AT HOTEL Friday, September p.m. 8 Ambassadors needed (2 at each hotel) Welcome Crew volunteers assist with welcoming the athletes and their families, helping to unload vehicles and getting their belongings to their room. They also help with traffic control, running the elevators in selected buildings and other miscellaneous duties as required. FILLED! Get up and get excited about each name being called, every run to the bases and each swing at bat. Get creative, help families make signs. FILLED!
