1 Xenia Football April 2014 Coach s Corner Coach DeLong Don t forget to follow us on our Facebook Page Xenia Bucs We re also on the Web Xeniabucsfootball. com Contact Information Head Coach Bob DeLong bdelong@xenia.k12.oh.us Touchdown Club President Tami Bartley tamarabartley@sbcglobal.net Vice President Donna McCray mccrayd@childrensdayton.org Co Treasurers Emily Degler thedeglers07@gmail.com Aaron McCray amccray@woh.rr.com Secretary April Higgins ahiggins@dayair.org April is a busy month for football coaches. We are visiting spring college practices to complete the winter learning we started months ago, finalizing equipment orders, recruiting 6th through 11th graders into the weight room and running weights 5 days per week after school and two evening sessions per week. We are working frantically with our current players on their grades. We meet with every junior player to go over transcripts and begin the discussion concerning post high school plans. We use these meetings to help our athletes plan the month of June when they will be going out to perform for the college coaches. A new OHSAA rule allows us for the first time to coach our position players by appointment (4 kids at a time limit, only 1 coach coaching at a time). It is our belief that the new rules are intended to allow us to help our kids get better, not to make football misery. We believe that these new coaching opportunities allow us to help the players in ways that we have not been able to in the time allotted before. April is also the time for our fundraising efforts to ramp up. We have completed some of our lift-a-thon fundraiser where our players can earn items such as compression shirts for under their pads, workout gear, and other items that soften the blow to their parent s budget. On April 11th we had our second Monte Carlo Night. The Touchdown Club works relentlessly to put on this event. It produces nearly 25% of the funds that the club uses to provide travel suits, motivational shirts, Poundage Club reward shirts, Ironman reward shirts, food for trips, Meet the Team Night, educational opportunities for the coaching staff and funds for a first class banquet to end our season. How Can You Help? The Touchdown Club is in need of parents to help out! It takes an enormous amount of help and resources to successfully run and manage the club. Please consider joining or helping out in any way you can. We have lots of ways to help out even if you are unable to attend the meetings. We are currently looking for people to help with before and after game team meals, the Buc Card sale, season responsibilities and much more. If you are interested in getting involved, please call or Tami Bartley.
2 Weight Room News The Adams Trust has once again provided the weight room with some new equipment to help our athletes become bigger, stronger and faster on and off the field. New equipment includes: 45 degree hyper extensions Hi-lo pulley system Thank you also to the Adams Trust for providing new headphones for the football coaching staff. For the first time ever, all coaches will have a headset to better communicate during games. Thank you to the Adams Trust! Fundraisers Lift-a-Thon The team is preparing for its second leg of the lift-a-thon. Players will test again the week of April 28 th and will have their final test the week of June 2 nd. All team gear earned through this year s lift-a-thon will be Under Armour gear. No player will want to be without the compression shirt to put under the pads! The breakdown of how to earn each piece of gear is as follows $50 in pledges earns a sublimated UA compression shirt *This shirt will have the player s # on one sleeve and the team logo with the #115 in the middle on the other sleeve (#115 corresponds to the 115 th year of Xenia Football). The front of the shirt will also have the team logo. $80 in pledges earns all of the above plus a pair of UA shorts. $120 in pledges earns all of the above plus a UA hoodie. $150 in pledges earns all of the above plus UA pants. The Compression Shirt
