1 Tipp City Exempted Village Schools Volume 3, Issue 14 November 7, 2017 Superintendent s Thoughts Dr. Gretta Kumpf It was a fabulous fall sports season with new records, significant accomplishments, and some stellar competition. It was a season for the books. On Saturday, Tippecanoe High School girls cross country team finished 3rd at state and Katie Taylor, a junior, finished in 16th place and was named All Ohio; sophomore Bryce Conley finished 33rd! Those are incredible athletic achievements that deserve recognition. The girls soccer and boys soccer teams made it to the Elite 8 and played their hearts out in extremely competitive games! Although the seasons ended on Saturday, they never caved to the pressure and persevered with true grit until the final whistle. To all of our fall athletes, congratulations on a wonderful season. I truly am proud of all of you and the contributions you made to our athletic program. Thank you to our dedicated coaches who spent countless hours working with these young men and women to hone their skills. Thank you to the parents who provided so much support to their students whether it s a hug, a hearty meal, or a drive to practice. And, thank you to the best fans a team could want. We always know our fans will out shout any team in the area as they cheer on our athletes! We Are Tipp: Building True GRIT! P B I S Almost all Broadway Elementary students earned enough Tipp Tickets to attend the Fall Festival that included fun activity stations throughout the school. They enjoyed face painting, art, computer games, board games, snacks and more. Students earn tickets when they display any of the three pillars of character: respect, responsibility and integrity. The pillars are part of the district s PBIS, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. Success at Season Opener for Model UN The Tippecanoe High School Model United Nations Team competed at the Ohio Northern University Conference on Saturday, October 28th. The team of Amelia Zweizig, Christopher Nichols, and Seth Shuchat received Honorable Mention for their representation of the nation of South Korea. Brady Kinsman and Jacob Smith also received honorable mention for their representation of the nation of Japan. Also participating were Joey Dietz, Ben Stueve, Nathan Harshbarger, Austin Post, Anne Lyons, Alicia Miller, Simone King, Savannah Koogler, and Ash Custer.

2 Page 2 Fractured Fairy Tales Once upon a time in a far, far away land, some very creative writing students set out on a new trail. Tippecanoe High School students in the class of Crystal Luce wrote fractured fairy tales, a story that has been modified by altering the character, plot, twist, or point of view. They shared their stories to appreciative students in the classes of Sarah Janosik and Allysson Rudnicki. Runway Extravaganza Broadway Elementary students in the class of Mary Kate Sowder dressed in some crazy, silly, striped, unmatched, soft, glitzy, sparkling outfits for the Adjective Fashion Show. After walking the runway and posing, the model s classmates used ten adjectives to best describe their latest fashion choices. Behind the Scenes More than 50 Tippecanoe Middle School students enrolled in Design Thinking classes visited Abbott Nutrition and toured the plant. Thank you Abbott for this wonderful partnership and enriching the education of students. They also learned from a plant engineer, who visited TMS to talk about her profession.

3 Page 3 Congratulations to Tippecanoe Middle School Buffalo Wild Wings Wingmen of the Week for the week of October 30th. Staff members nominate students and colleagues who exhibit positive behavior. Grab Your Partner LT Ball Intermediate 4th graders showed off their dance moves at the annual Hoe Down. It was great to see so many dressed in flannel shirts, cowboy boots, and cowboy hats. The event marks the end of a physical education unit on square dancing and is beautifully organized by teacher Jeanne Koch. The students and their guests had a delightful time swinging their partners, primarily mom and dad. Thank you Mrs. Koch for helping to create these memories. Halloween Creativity Tippecanoe Middle School students tested their creativity by turning a childhood figurine, doll, or other toy into a Frankentoy in the name of Halloween. Media Specialist Wendy Torrence provided scraps of fabric, google eyes, pom poms, pipe cleaners and other craft items. Students said it was a great way to spend their Red Devil period because they don t get to do something like this very often.

4 Page 4 Trick or Treating with a Twist The Tippecanoe High School ASTRA club participated in a Trunk or Treat in Troy on October 25. The activity was sponsored by Reading for A Change which helps young children develop literacy skills. The theme for the trunk was the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. The students created the decorations and handed out treats. They also played Great Pumpkin Golf with the children. Halloween Fun at LT Ball Intermediate and Nevin Coppock Thank you to the amazing volunteers who organized the Halloween parties for students at the elementary buildings. The students had a wonderful time with the games, crafts, and silliness. They also enjoyed the snacks and treat bags!

5 Page 5 BOOKS, BOOKS, AND MORE BOOKS The THS literary group, Inferno, will be hosting a used book sale Friday, November 10 (4-6 pm) and Saturday, November 11 (10-1 pm) in the THS Media Center. Books for any level reader will be available for only $1 for paperback and $2 for hardcover. Pick up the newest novel, a cool cookbook, or anything in between and help fund literary programs at THS. Coffee and Conversation Join Broadway Elementary principal Tina Smith for a morning Coffee and Conversation. This informal gathering is an opportunity to talk with the principal, get better acquainted with other parents, learn what is happening at school, and ask questions. Junior Katie Taylor finished 13th! Congratulations to Tippecanoe High School sophomore Bryce Conley who finished in 33rd place at state. Area Coaches Award Tennis Players Several Tippecanoe High School tennis players were recognized and awarded for their athletic achievements. The Miami Valley Coaches Association complimented and praised the Lady Red Devils. Miami Valley DII tennis coaches voted on the award recipients. The Red Devil 250 will be kicking off in November and will replace the winter 50/50 drawings done in the past! The boosters will be selling membership numbers between 1 and 250. Each number can be purchased for $100. Once numbers have been purchased, a random number drawing will take place once each month beginning January 2018 and will be drawn ongoing each month ending in December Five numbers will be drawn each month and cash prizes will be awarded at the following levels: $25, $50, $75, $100, and $250. The winning number holders will be notified by the Tippecanoe Athletic Boosters. Winning numbers will not be removed from the drawing, but will remain eligible for future winnings every month throughout the year! Numbers can be purchased between November 15 th and December 15 th. A minimum of 100 numbers must be sold prior to the fundraiser kick-off in January. Numbers can be purchased by submitting a check payable to Tippecanoe Athletic Boosters, Inc., PO Box 24, Tipp City, OH 45371, or can be dropped off to Kari Prall at the Tippecanoe Board of Education Office between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please include the following information with payment: name, address, phone number, address, and requested number. If the number requested is no longer available, an alternate number will be assigned. Receipt of payment and number assigned will be returned to you for your record. Boys and Girls Basketball Tipp-Off Dinner Friday November 24th Support The Tippecanoe High School Boys and Girls basketball teams past and present Alumni scrimmage, 3 point contest, skills competition, mixed inter-squad scrimmage. Come for a great day and night to kick off the Red Devils season! Games start at noon and continue through the day and evening. Admission will be charged beginning at approximately 4:40 p.m.
