A meal will not be served for this meeting. This means that it is not necessary for you to call for reservations to this meeting. At the April Membership Meeting, Jack Brettschneider was the lucky attendance winner. Gayle Chase, will be collecting dues for 2017 after the meeting. Annual dues are $25 per year. Those members that have paid their dues will benefit by receiving a newsletter mailed to their door or ing your newsletter every quarter, also you are entitled to receive a $2 reduction in a SAC dance ticket. If you have not already paid, please do so as soon as possible to remain a member in good standing. Thank you for everyone that has already renewed their dues! Status of the Building Sale T he sale of the SAC building looked promising until Thursday, June 8th, when the closing was postponed due to the city of Melvindale not issuing a certificate of occupancy to the buyer. When we approached the city, they mentioned that the buyers were required to have more parking spots before A SAC Summer Dinner Dance is now scheduled for Sunday, July 30th, Frank Moravcik will provide the music and our own Ken Dowling will accompany Frank. A flyer for this event is included in this newsletter. Be sure to mark your calendars!! they could obtain the certificate. This could only be changed by going before the Planning Committee. Since the committee will not meet until mid July, the closing will be postponed for at least that long. Stay tuned for the ongoing saga of the building sale. Michael Masten, vp AC has been asked by S Lyskawa VFW and Monsignor Hunt KofC to provide music for their joint picnic that will be held at the VFW on Waverly on August 20th. A tent will be set up in the parking lot, food and drinks will be available and SAC will provide the music. It is something you do not want to miss! Reservations for adults and children will be needed to ensure there is adequate food. 50/50, basket raffle, bouncy house for kids, SAC music, DJ Mark, and corn hole games are planned. Flyers will be posted at the VFW with more details. Mike Masten will coordinate groups for music throughout the afternoon. Musicians and SAC helpers will be attempting to reciprocate the VFW s hospitality they have shown us since we moved into their lounge on Friday s. Let s show our hosts the generosity they have shown us. 1

The Club thanks everyone for their generous donations. Friday Night Button Box Nights at the VFW S.A.C. NE WS A ttendance at the Friday Night Button Box Nights at the VFW have been very good. If there are musicians that plan on playing for the August 20th VFW/KofC/SAC picnic, come to keep your skills sharp for this event. Let s WOW the attendees at the picnic!! Slovenian Ambassador to the United States T he Slovenian Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Bozo Cerar, visited Detroit on April 21, as a part of his farewell tour of Slovenian communities in the United States, prior to his forthcoming return to Slovenia, where he will receive a new assignment for his political responsibilities. The Ambassador s tenure in the United States was for four years. The Ambassador was hosted by the Detroit based Honorary Consul to Slovenia, Yousif Ghafari, who generously offered the use of a room in the private Golf Club of which he is a member, for the social reception that was given for the Ambassador. Mr. Ghafari arranged for a delicious assortment of hors d oeuvre type foods, along with wine, beer and soft drink refreshments, at the reception, which was held from 3 to 5 pm. The reception was attended by the following: Edward and Frances Adamic, Steve and Norma Benovich, Thomas Bernick, Anita Koscak, Stacy Krainz, Marjorie Obed, Paul Perko, and Charlie Zakrajsek. The Ambassador was a cordial and polite gentleman, and he was very interested to speak to each attendee, to learn of their individual Slovenian backgrounds. He also answered the many questions that were asked of him. It was truly a great honor and privilege for all of the attendees to meet with such an esteemed and internationally respected representative of Slovenia. Sick Members: Fran Adamic Jose Martincic Milka Martincic Carolyn Tehovnik Frank Tehovnik Steve Urbanec Don Yurkovich SAC April 30th Dinner Dance PAGE 2 he April 30th dinner dance, our first T dinner dance at the Lyskawa VFW, was well-attended. It was a pleasure to see all of our music friends. The Good Times provided the tunes and our caterer provided us with an excellent meal. The hall at the VFW was beautiful with plenty of room. Even the round tables are a step up from the old rectangular tables in Melvindale. I will recommend that all dancers bring their dance shoes, since rubber-sole shoes are slightly sticky on the dance floor. Thank you to everyone that attended and made this a family reunion to remember! 2

7 Our Location at the Lyskawa VFW Post 7546 M ost of our membership has found us in our new home, yet there are some that has not shown up since the move in December It is possible that some members were out of the area during the Winter and need a reminder of our new home. I am including directions and a map in hope that we can meet up with the remainder of our membership. If you are approaching the VFW from the city of Warren: Take I-696 Westbound. Take exit 18B to Southbound Telegraph Rd and drive 11 miles to Warren Ave. At Warren Ave make a Michigan U turn to head East on Warren Ave. Take the first right turn onto Waverly St (350 feet from Telegraph & Warren Ave). Drive 2/10 mile on Waverly (past the American Legion) until you come to Pvt. John Lyskawa VFW Post Park in the lot north of the building or on Waverly. Jam sessions are in the lounge so enter using the door on Waverly. Dinner Dances are in the hall, so enter using the door closest to the parking lot. The following is a simple map of the area around the VFW post that may help you find us on Friday evenings between 7-11 PM. If you still need help, you can call Mike Masten or Gayle Chase at any time (cell numbers are contained on page 1 in the left-hand column).
