1 Arden Club Calendar The Highway, Arden, DE Mar 2016 Printed on 100% post-consumer fiber paper. ARDENSINGERS GILD H.M.S. Pinafore Rehearsals for our spring 2016 show, Gilbert & Sullivan s H.M.S. Pinafore, have begun. Performances will be held April 22, 23, 29 & 30, 2016 at 8 pm and April 24 & 30 at 2 pm. Stage direction is by Sam Griffin, with music direction by Helene Furlong. Captain Corcoran has prospered as captain of the H.M.S. Pinafore and hopes to further improve the family's societal standing by making a marriage match for his daughter Josephine with Sir Joseph Porter, First Lord of the Admiralty. Josephine is conflicted, because she's fallen in love with a "common" sailor, Ralph Rackstraw, while Sir Joseph's attentions "nauseate" her. She finally sets her mind to elope with Ralph, after hearing Sir Joseph lecture the captain and crew that "a British sailor is any man's equal" (excepting his). Everything is sorted out in typical topsy-turvy G&S fashion, with the captain, Josephine, and Sir Joseph ending up with appropriate marriage partners. Issues of social class are the target of Gilbert's wit in this production, accompanied by some of Sullivan's most memorable music. For more information about the show, including a cast list and ticket information, please visit BRIDGE GILD We play in the Bratten Room of the Lower Gild Hall the first and third Thursdays of the month from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Our March dates are: March 3 and March 17. The cost is $1 for members and $2 for non-members. The Bridge Gild s dinner will be April 2, featuring grand slam steelhead trout, partnered with roasted asparagus, and herbed red potatoes. SEE YOU THERE

The album reunites Glasper with bassist Vicente Archer and drummer Damion Reid, re-forming the trio that created his first two Blue Notes releases, Canvas (2005) and In My Element (2007). I think there is more than a little Black Keys in the sound, but their album was one of the best of It's very exciting to have them come to Arden in this WXPN Welcomes event sponsored in part by Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation. The ill Fated Natives are an exciting young rock band from Philly making their Delaware debut in Arden. Saturday May 28, PM - $25 (members $20) It is hard to believe that Alejandro's amazing concert in Arden was 9 years ago! We are very excited to welcome him back. We expect this seated concert to sell out, so contact us now or buy as soon as you can! Alejandro will appear in an acoustic / electric duo performance, his second musician will be on electric guitar and keyboards. 5 SHAKESPEARE GILD The Arden Shakespeare Gild s summer 2016 production, Troilus and Cressida, directed by Jim Ewald, will be presented in the Frank Stephens Memorial Theater on June 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 19, 23, 24, and 25. The backdrop of Troilus and Cressida takes place during the Trojan War but our version will be Star Wars-themed with the lighter side of Troy versus the darker side of the Greeks! For the better part of a decade the Greeks have been fighting the Trojans. For the princes of Troy, love and war will intertwine and change their lives forever. Paris and his lover Helen, for whom the war is being fought, care only about being with each other. Hector, Trojan General and Paris older brother dreams of distinguishing himself on the battlefield for the glory of Troy, while Troilus, the youngest brother, dreams only of the beautiful Cressida. With the help of Cressida s uncle Pandarus, Troilus and Cressida fall madly in love; however their love is short lived. Cressida s mother has defected to the Greeks and requests her daughter to be brought to her in exchange for a Trojan General. The two lovers swear undying love for each other and Troilus promises to visit Cressida in the Greek camp, despite the dangers of entering enemy territory. It is equally dangerous, however, for a woman alone and unprotected in an enemy s camp, and the path Cressida must chose threatens to tear their love apart. Will Hector s ambitious love of glory, Paris selfish love of Helen, and Troilus anguished love of Cressida be, as Helen herself unconsciously prophesizes, a love that will undo us all"? Rehearsals will be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings, beginning on April 4. To volunteer in any capacity behind the scenes please contact Laura Wallace or Mary Catherine Kelley. Meetings Gild meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 PM in the Bratten Room of the Gild Hall. All are welcome hither! MAR 2016 THE ARDEN CLUB CALENDAR 5
