1 PUKERAU SCHOOL & COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER 13 September 2017 Kia Ora Koutou This is our last community newsletter for Term Three and I hope it finds you all well. We have enjoyed a somewhat quieter term here at school, which has been nice for the students and staff alike. Term Four is set to be incredibly busy - so I hope you make the most of the last few weeks of this term! This week is Maori Language week and the students have been doing some activities in celebration of this - I was even given a poster to help me order coffee in te reo which will no doubt come in handy! Also this week, the students have begun the Pukerau's Got Talent auditions. This competition is being completely coordinated and carried out by a committee of senior students and I have been incredibly proud of the time they have put into running it and the care and support they are showing to those auditioning. I sat in on the auditions on Monday and Tuesday and was very impressed by those brave enough to audition - it takes a lot of courage to perform to a panel of five judges - all of whom offer advice and feedback upon the completion of your act!! In this newsletter you will find a few photos from the Pukerau's Got Talent auditions. On Saturday September 9th a few Pukerau School families braved the weather to head up Cardrona for a school ski trip. There were a few dramas getting up the mountain due to road conditions but once we were up there, it was a good experience by all involved. Again, I was very impressed by the students who went and the determination they showed to make the most of their time up the mountain, despite the rather cold weather! There are a few photos in the newsletter from our ski trip. Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter and I hope to see lots of our community members at Pet Day/Enviro Fair next term. 2 School Notices Pet Day/Enviro Fair: Friday 3 rd November: Pet Day will be running before lunch and the Enviro Fair will be running from 1:00-3:00pm. A community newsletter will come out in Week 1-2 of Term 4 with a timetable of events for the day. Prospective Students: It is that time of the year when we would like to know who will be enrolling at our school in the next couple of years. If you have some pre-schoolers at home, who you think will be attending Pukerau School can you please either phone the school on or office@pukerau.school.nz to leave us details of your child s name, date of birth, address and a contact phone number. Confirmed Touch Rugby Players: Teams have been finalised for Term 4 Touch Rugby. Attached to this newsletter is a Permission slip for parents to sign and return to the school by this Friday 15 September please. We need this completed Permission Slip to enable your children to play. Years 5 & 6: Austyn, Vinny, Toby, Brodie, Briar and Sarah Wilson, Christopher Whyte, Adam Kelly and Balou Donaldson (Otama) Years 3 & 4: Bain, Jackson, Aarav, Max, Cory, Jack Kelly and Christopher McBain (Otama), Dylan Cross, Josh Thompson and Ryan Sharp (Knapdale) Years 1 & 2: Fergus, Adrian, Harry, Aidan, Ryan Cross and Grace Thompson (Knapdale). Games will start in Term 4 on Wednesday 18 October. *************************************************************************************** Slime! Slime! Slime! Our Year 1 and 2 children had fun making slime in class last week and there was some great writing after this. Adrian Claassen shared a fantastic recount of his thoughts.. The slime felt cold. We made slime with glue and washing liquid and baking soda. It was fun making slime. ************************************************************************************** A big thank you to those who have supplied empty water bottles. Our students still need 24 more 750ml bottles with lids for our bird feeder project.

Week Nine Monday: Wednesday: Thursday: Friday: Week Ten Tuesday: Thursday: Friday: Sports Activator 9:00am - 12:30pm Writing workshop for teaching staff from 3:30-4:30pm at Gore Main School. IEP after school 3:30pm. Longford Intermediate visit with Yr6 students at 9:00am. Laura from the Ensign coming 2pm to take photos of Enviro Fair prep. Last day of Term Three. Loud Shirt Day - come dressed in a bold shirt and bring a gold coin donation to support Kiwi Kids with hearing loss. COMMUNITY NOTICES For Sale: Four month old black Labrador cross female pups. There are four of them to choose from! Enquiries to James on or phone ATHLETICS GORE Opening night for the new season begins on the first Tuesday in Term 4, October 17 th, 5:30pm at Newman Park. Looking forward to seeing everyone again, new members most welcome! Contact Eleanor Miller Waipahi Community Hall Craft Market Any crafts people interested in a table for Saturday 23 rd September please contact Andrea Peters on Time 9.30am to 2.00pm. Table costs $10 per person or $5.00 shared table. If there is enough interest to keep this going, we can have the Community Hall booked for each month till December. Dates will be confirmed for October, November and December.
