2013 Herd Brochure Brad & Marilyn Grossman 1563 Four Mile Road Charleston, WV CH Kickadee Hill JD Go Ask Andrea Third Consecutive Generation Permanent Champion

Thank you! for your interest in Kickadee Hill Saanens is a landmark year for us, celebrating 30 years of breeding dairy goats. We ve owned 30 Permanent Champions in our goat lifetime. 18 of them were goats that we raised and showed ourselves while 12 were goats that we sold as kids and other people raised, showed and earned their championships. We ve been to the National Show three times, and placed in the top ten placing of all of the classes. Kickadee is a word we created to describe the gleeful way a goat will run and jump into the air, tossing her head, and kicking all four legs in the air at once. When it came time to select a herd name, we decided that wherever our goat adventure took us, we d like our goats to always be happy enough to go kickadee down the hill. In our early years, we had a raw milk license, fudge making permit, and farm store, freshening 35 does annually. These days we keep a small elite herd. All of our goats have deep pedigrees full of excellence on both sides of their pedigrees. Our pedigrees are bursting with Permanent Champions, 90+ appraisal scores, National Champions and Premier Sires. After many years of living with goats, we ve developed the style of goat that pleases us. We want low maintenance goats who are capable of living long, productive lives, so we breed for structural soundness and correctness. We want easy keepers, so we breed for substance and power. We want a year round milk supply to provide our home with milk and cheese, so we breed for a long, level lactation. We keep goats for our pleasure, so we breed for easy temperaments that give us personalities that can get along easily within the herd as well as with the humans who care for them. We want them all to be pretty, so that we can show them if we want to. And most of all, we want our goats to be friendly, happy and healthy. All of these years later, we are pleased to report that our goats still go kickadee down the hill. We hand raise all of our kids, even the wethers, so you can expect a calm, well-socialized kid when ordering from Kickadee Hill. We strive to give our kids optimum care so that they can grow to reach their full potential. Our kids are treated for coccidia and wormed with fenbendazole once a month until they are six months old. Kids are vaccinated with CDT and are routinely given Bo-Se and vitamins ADE. Kid deposits are honored in the order received. If you select a second choice kid, it is honored ahead of a subsequent order s first choice. We require a $100 deposit to hold the kid of your choice. If we do not offer the kid for sale for any reason, your deposit will be refunded promptly or transferred to an alternate choice, whichever you prefer. The balance may be paid in cash at the time of pick up, or it may be paid by check two weeks in advance of pick up, whichever is easier for you. Prices listed are at the farm. The buyer is responsible for health certificates, vet fees, shipping charges, etc. We require pick up of your kid by one month of age. If you would like more information on any of our animals, please contact us. We are always happy to pull up a chair and talk goats. Brad and Marilyn Grossman

Louise is the matriarch of the herd. She comes from a long doe line that exudes excellence, generation after generation. This doe line brings us gorgeous udders, spectacular general appearance, and high butterfat. Louise s sire is heavily linebred on Dream Maker, sire of eight Permanent Champions as well as the 2000 National Champion and the 1999 Reserve National Champion, and has Smirk, the 2004 National Champion thrown in as the outcross. Louise was a Permanent Champion by the time she was 60 days fresh on her first lactation, and has earned Best in Show several times throughout her show career. Louise is 9 years old this year, and her udder is still as snug as when she was a 2 year old. Her general appearance is spectacular with a front end that is still as smooth as glass. Not only is Louise pretty, she is also an asset in the milk parlor with her level lactation and strong components. Louise s daughter Liz has been a tremendous show doe. She was 5 th place Intermediate Kid at Nationals in 2008, earned her dry leg with a Best Junior Doe in Show win in West Virginia, and has been Best in Show numerous times in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky in 2012 as a 4 year old. It is indeed a blessing to have someone do so much with their Kickadee Hill animal. A big thank you goes to Amy Keach for all of her time and work to manage and show Liz to her full potential. Louise s son, Lonnie (in our herd) is the most structurally correct buck we have ever owned. I knew he was a keeper before he was even dry. We are going to repeat the breeding of Louise to GCH +*B Willow Run Stormfront Stuck Up, which made Liz. This breeding has a nice little linebreeding on Smirk, the 2004 National Champion. Stuckey s dam, Snuggle, is a Smirk daughter who was first place in her class at Nationals for three consecutive years starting with the year she was 3 years old. At 5 years old, Snuggle was Reserve Best Udder at Nationals and appraised 92 (EEEE). And after seeing Liz this year, we knew it was time to go back to Stuckey. Alice is a very long bodied, very level across the topline, and has an incredible rump. Her front end is very smooth from top to bottom with pretty shoulders, a prominent brisket, with excellent front legs on pretty feet. Alice s udder has a huge area of attachment, with a spectacularly long and smooth fore and a rear with uncommon width. Alice earned her dry leg her first time in a show ring and finished her Permanent Championship as a two year old first freshener. Alice appraised 91 as a three year old. As a Permanent Champion, Alice won Best of Breed in nearly every challenge class she entered, and earned several Best in Show awards as well. Alice s dam, Arlene, was a Permanent Champion who appraised 92 (EEEE) as a 5 year old. Alice repeated her mother s excellence with her 91 appraisal score and her outstanding show career. The family tradition of excellence continues in the third consecutive generation. We have two Alice daughters, Andrea sired by Kickadee Hill WRS James Dean and Arlena sired by Noble- Springs As Smilin Jack. At the first show of the season in 2012, Andrea was Best Senior Doe in Show and Arlena was Best Junior Doe in Show. What a compliment to Alice on her ability as a brood doe! Mercy s pedigree has the last three sires that were my favorites in her pedigree Doc, Victor and Stuckey who combine together so nicely. Her dam Midori is a lovely doe, who is smooth and pretty with an incredible udder. Mercy has the awesome escutcheon with pretty little teats that are perfectly placed for which Doc is noted. She has lots of substance and power, and stands on pretty feet that are tight toed with short pasterns. We are thrilled to have her! Mercy will be stay dry for 2013

Lonnie is a gorgeous young buck. He is powerful and oh-so smooth. Lonnie is long and level with a wide rump and a wide open escutcheon. He tracks perfectly square. Lonnie s front legs are perfectly straight, his rear legs are nicely angled, and he stands on very pretty feet with perfectly shaped cloves, tight toes and strong short pasterns. I love to stand at the fence and just look at him. Lonnie is the prettiest buck we ve had since Spin Doctor, who was also from this doe line. Lonnie s sire Edward is the product of a Joshua granddaughter bred back to him. In 2006, Joshua was Premier Sire and sire to the Junior National Champion. Joshua s sire Victor is one of best sires of the last several decades. Victor has 15 Permanent Champion daughters, is sire to the 2003 National Champion, and was Premier Sire in Lonnie s dam Louise appraised 92, finished her Permanent Championship as a first freshener, won Best in Show as a mature doe, and has been just as worthy in the milk parlor. Louise s doe line has gorgeous udders, high components, level lactations, and spectacular general appearance. Louise s sire is linebred on Dream Maker, who sired 8 Permanent Champions, the 1999 Reserve National Champion, the 2000 National Champion, and the 2006 Reserve National Champion (littermate sister to our Alice s dam). I knew Lonnie was a keeper at birth, even before his hair was dry. Lonnie earned his first championship leg this year, which was great fun because we took him out just to get him some show experience, never expecting to earn a leg on a yearling. It looks like Lonnie has a great future ahead of him. Semen $25/straw Lonnie s dam Louise at 5 years old

Albert is a big guy. He s really tall and really long, with a very long bone pattern throughout. Albert is just a yearling, and he s already so long that it s difficult to reach his rear legs when holding his collar. Albert is all arms and legs right now, but he s going to be something when he gets done growing. Albert s pedigree has all of the genetics we love Victor, Dream Maker, Scorpion King, Wolfman Jack and brings us a little something different with the addition of Talut. Albert s sire Jack has a pedigree full of excellent animals. Jack s paternal sisters did well at Nationals this year, all being at the top of their classes. Jack s dam Jazelle was Junior Champion in Albert s dam Alice is one of our all-time favorite does. Alice is a gorgeous doe with a sweet temperament. She is powerful and feminine at the same time. Alice s dam s littermate sister was Reserve National Champion in Alice is a repeat of her dam s excellence, but in a much larger doe. We ve had this doe line for four generations, and each generation is lovelier than one that preceded it. Albert s littermate sister, Arlena, was Best Junior Doe in Show in 2012, and just gets prettier every day. Sometimes when I am doing chores, I will catch Arlena out of the corner of my eye, and say, Wow, who is THAT? Albert has a great future ahead of him!
