2 Corvette Expressions 3rd Edition Volume 110 October, 2015 Hello Corvette Express members. Happy Halloween. It's hard to believe it's October already. This time of year is especially busy for Corvette and club enthusiasts. Many car shows and judging events are taking place now that the weather is cooler. Being an NCRS member, I am involved with the history, restoration and preservation of the older Corvettes. So much so that I've recently started offering repair & restoration services to the public. I recently attended the Central Jersey chapter's annual judging meet, and every year the number & quality of cars is increasing. This solidifies the fact that the Corvette was, is, and will continue to be in a class by its self. Although many of our members are driving "newer" Corvettes, NCRS is a great organization and their work is what helps drive the hobby and development of the newer cars. Our October meeting brings officer or executive board nominations. I urge all members to consider running or holding a position within the club. As seen this year, with a considerable amount of new members joining, we can and will continue to grow and move forward in a positive way. Again, please stay in touch by going to our monthly meetings, checking our website and reading this newsletter. Make sure you check out the October activity schedule; there s something going on just about every week-end. Also, take a look at the last page of the newsletter as it contains additional shows that you might want to attend. As I mentioned last month, there is now a new addition to the newsletter called Club Happenings. This is a special page that members can make their own by sharing information meaningful to them. This can include births, engagements, weddings, trips, purchasing a corvette, interesting, corvette-related anecdotes, etc.. I d like to thank the members who contributed to the launch of our first page, and I encourage anyone who would also like to contribute to send your information (pictures are always welcome, but not required) to: LLForce@att.net. Finally, don t forget that October 5 is the last Fireside get-together (or should I say, vette-together ) until May, The next club meeting will be on Wednesday, October 7. See you then. 5 Corvette Expressions 3rd Edition Volume 110 October, 2015 Club Happenings Corvette Trivia (Contributed by John Hatfield) was the first year for factory installed seatbelts in the Corvette. 2. Knock-off aluminum wheels were introduced as an option in was the first year for the L88 (20 produced) and L89 (16 produced) 427s 4. The term Roadster in relation to Corvettes is used for 1953 through 1955 models. 5. Heathers became standard in the 1962 Corvette. 6. In March of 1965, Corvette created the 1st "big block" option, a 396 ci with 425 hp. 7. "Solid Axle" name for the Corvette was the last year for the exposed head lights, solid rear axle and optional power top. 9. The first 25 Corvettes were made with "dome" wheel covers was the only year for the ZL1 (L88 with aluminum block) with only 2 having been produced. Congratulations to Frank and Kathy Jones on your new, 2016 Z51 Coupe! (8 Speed Auto, Arctic White exterior, Adrenaline red interior, Exposed Carbon Fiber hood, Carbon Flash mirrors, spoiler emblems and grill. 6 Corvette Expressions 3rd Edition Volume 110 October, 2015 AND THE NOMINATIONS ARE... by John Hatfield During our October and November meetings we will hold our annual nominations for Basically the process works as follows: you can nominate yourself or any other club member for any of the positions listed below. At our December meeting, we will vote for the nominees, and the people elected will start their positions in January This is a great opportunity for our new members and seasoned members to step up and consider running for a position. I can tell you from personal experience that's it has been a very rewarding experience and one of the best decisions that I made in a long time. 9 Adirondacks Vette Fest September 11-13, 2015 Commentary by Dave Schneiderman Our adventure began as usual at the Cheesequake rest stop. Four club member couples (Nagle, Yagid, Quigley & Schneiderman) met there with our Vettes and on to the NY Thruway..along the way we picked up Lynne s cousin from L.I. (Jeannie & Bob; 2000 C5) & their friends (Carl & Barbara; C4) & headed north for another lunch al fresco at the New Baltimore rest stop. On to Glens Falls & the Ramada Inn where we met up with 50+ other Vette drivers/navigators as well as a gaggle (or is it a herd) of Can-Am Spyders (those 3-wheel trikes). seems that there was a Spyder gathering at same hotel as the Vette gathering. After check-in & an orientation meeting, we all headed to downtown Glens Falls where one of the streets was blocked off for private parking by the group & display for the townsfolk. We had dinner at Tululah s which turned out to be a mix of French & Spanish..excellent choice & worth a visit if you re in the area. -9-

10 It was nice & sunny Saturday morning as we headed out for the Adirondack tour. It was an excellent route chosen by the tour leader which took us through beautiful mountain & lake scenery. Lunch was at Lanzi s on the Lake in Mayfield NY & the sight of our caravan on the lawn adjacent to the Great Sacandaga Lake was magnificent. After lunch, we were treated to a tour of the auto collection owned by Jim Taylor in Gloversville NY. This is an amazing private collection that is open to groups by invitation only.we were exceedingly lucky to have the invitation. Heading back to Glens Falls & the Ramada, we decided to take a run through Lake George Village to check out the Hot Rod Nationals. Unfortunately, the crowds in the village were huge & traffic was at a dead stop! We had to turn back, but at least we got back to the hotel before the rains came..and did it rain..all night thunderstorms, but at least we were indoors & had a very nice buffet dinner with all 95 of the event participants. -10-

11 Sunday morning we headed south to Saratoga Springs & after a leisurely breakfast in town, to the Saratoga Auto Museum. This is a small museum in a beautiful park setting..the current exhibit was British cars & there was a fine collection of Morgans, Jags, MG s, Rovers, Triumphs & more. There was also a beautifully restored Pierce Arrow which was the crown of the collection. We headed home in the early afternoon & arrived back in NJ around 5:00 after covering 712 miles over the weekend. A great time was had by all. -11-

13 Corvettes on the Boardwalk - Ocean City, NJ September 20, 2015 It was a beautiful day for the Corvettes on the Boardwalk car show, attended by the Nagles, Alpaughs, Nogueiras, Spishocks, Craig Van Wickle, and Corvette (Lynn Earhart) Nanny. Former members, the Artzs, were there as well. A day at the beach with the Vettes what could be better! -13-

14 Peddler s Village - New Hope, P.A. September 27, 2015 After an impromptu change in plans, the Quigleys, Nagles, Tighelaars, Forces, and Carol Zide drove out to Peddler s Village in New Hope, Pennsylvania. The drive along the river was lovely, and after spending some time seeing the sites and taking pictures, they had a great lunch at the Square One Pub. -14-
