3 The Club at Needwood Average Daily Attendance: 60 It was a busy month at The Club at Needwood we held our annual Valentine Party. Members had a great time playing games and showing off their Valentines arts and crafts. Members are also gearing up for basketball season that will start the beginning of March. Are second and third grade students are also learning how to tell time and participating in multiplication relay races reinforcing their math skills. Average Daily Attendance: 65 February at the Club at Jane Macon has been very exciting. We had a valentine's party for the kids on Friday the 13 th filled with goodies. We've also kicked off basketball practice and started registration for First Tee. The kids have been learning about Black History and Martin Luther King Jr. Several of our students went to the Heads Up clinic and had a blast. February has been packed with fun, excitement, and learning. St. Simons Island Unit Average Daily Attendance: 90 February was full of love and fun at the St. Simons Island Unit. We began the month by learning all we could about St. Valentine and his holiday, Valentine s Day. Our kids were engaged in fun themed crafts and created origami hearts. They also put their creative minds to the test in a word race with friends. In the word race they had one minute to come up with as many words related to Valentine s Day as possible. The winning team was a group of 3 rd grade girls who came up with 37 words! They also learned all about teamwork by participating in different friendship relay games. We threw a party for our kids the day before Valentine s Day where we celebrated love with cookies and popcorn! What could be better? The last half of the month has been spent learning about our Presidents. Our kids learned about Abe Lincoln, made President Crafts, and participated in a Presidential Trivia game. The month of February was great and we are eager to see how we grow in March! UPCOMING EVENT: Family Night, March 26 th 6:30-8:00 Elizabeth F. Correll Teen Center Average Daily Attendance: 70 weekday, 125 per day on the weekend The month of February was a great success for the Teen Center in many ways. We had some tremendous attendance during the month as well as some great programming and special events. We held our annual Valentine's Dance Party on Saturday, February 14, 2015 and we had 210 teens attend the party. Everyone had a wonderful time playing games, dancing and enjoying the night. We also had some great programming that was made possible by some great volunteers in the community. During the month of February we saw our membership levels for the year go up, we saw our weekly and weekend ADA move in a positive direction and are looking for these trends to continue in March. Also, during the month of February, our organizational youth of the year, Akem Washington represented us at the State Youth of the Year competition. Akem made us all very proud as he was named the State Runner-Up. Akem was also named the winner of several scholarships that he will be fortunate to use in college next year. This is a wonderful accomplishment and we are all wishing him the best moving forward. UPCOMING EVENT: Shamrock Shake Dance Party Spring 3v3 Basketball League 1 st Quarter Family Night (March) The Club at Risley Average Daily Attendance: 80 The Club at Risley continued to stay active in the month of February. We celebrated Black History Month by focusing on learning more about MLK Jr. and I have a dream. During this time the members were able to express their own dreams to make the world a better place for everyone. We continued our triple play basketball challenges in our gym rotations. The members focused on dribbling and correct passing techniques. For our family event we held an active hearts day. The kids were challenged to be active with no electronics. We did dancing, played pool and foosball, and we played basketball in the gym. We also challenged the club members to see how many of them could challenge their guardians to get up and be active.

4 Terrill Thomas Unit Average Daily Attendance: 210 February was a fun filled month for Terrill Thomas. We learned all about weather and how to stay safe when bad weather happens during Significant Weather Week. All members participated in weather experiments and got to learn about tornadoes, clouds, and rain. Valentine's Day was this month and we celebrated all day on the 12 th. We had an early free Friday outside where members made lollypop b u t t e r fl i e s a n d d e c o r a t e d marshmallow pops. That evening we had our annual Valentine's Day Family Night! Members and their families came to the Club and played games, made crafts, and enjoyed yummy snacks. Pajama Day was a huge hit with our members and several came for President's Day dressed in their pjs. Basketball practice also started this month as all eight of our teams get ready for the 2015 basketball season. Upcoming events for newsletter: March 13 th : Club Open 7:30-5:30p.m. March 19 th : Family Night 6:30-8:00p.m. March 20 th : Teen Night 6:30-9:00p.m. March 22 nd -28 th : National BGCA Week to see more pics of our spectacular kids!

5 All Star Night was an event that was created and planned around NBA s All Star Weekend, which is an annual event. We held our own 3 Point Shooting Competition, Skills Competition and Slam Dunk Contest. There were 35 teens competed in the fun-filled All Star Night. The first event of the night was the 3 point shootout. Participants were on a 2 minute time limit and had to take 15 shots from different spots around the arc. The top 5 scores moved on to the second round and then the top 2 scores moved into a championship match. Carieon Robbins, a 9th grade basketball player at BHS came out as the victor as he made 12 of 15 shots in the final round. The second competition was the Skills Challenge. This tested the player s ability to handle the ball, pass and shoot. There was a course that each participant had to work through and the player with the fastest time won. Once again, there were 3 rounds and in the end, Xavier Vanellison was crowned as the winner. Xavier is a 12th grade basketball player at Glynn Academy. The final event of the night, which was the most fun for the teens was the dunk contest. Our members worked on judging score cards in Art throughout the week so that our judges could hold up their scores for all to see during the competition. Dereck Lampkin won the dunk contest in tremendous fashion. Event Winners: 3 Point Shootout: Carieon Robbins (Freshman BHS) Skills Competition: Xavier Vanellison (Senior Glynn Academy) Dunk Contest: Dereck Lampkin (Sophmore Grade BHS) PARENTS: MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUB GIANT GOLF TOURNAMENT Board of Directors Mike Hendley- President Brenda Kilgore- Vice President Steve Holt- Treasurer Joel Bickmore- Secretary Bill Stembler- Past President Antwan Walker- At Large Adams, Carol Bennett, Jeff Bickmore, Joel Certain, Lawrence Clark, Jerome Green, Brenda Hendley, Mike Holt, Steve Kilgore, Brenda Killian, Bob Lawrence, Col.
