2 Youth of the Month Carter Ford St. Simons Island Carter has been a part of our Club for about 2 years and has always made a positive impression on staff and members. HE is 7 years old and in the 2nd grade at Oglethorpe Point Elementary. When he grows up, Carter would like to be a soldier. Also, his favorite thing to at the Club is cooking club. Carter was chosen as Youth of the Month based upon his care for others, respect for staff and friends, and his excellent manners. We are lucky to have such an amazing kid be a part of our Club! Alex Ramirez Alex is the perfect choice for this month's Youth of the Month for the Club at Jane Macon. Alex is nine years old and in the 4th grade at Sterling Elementary. He enjoys playing video games and reading. When he grows up, Alex wants to be a meteorologist because he enjoys studying the weather and how it works (especially tornados). Alex loves playing outside and in the computer lab and says he loves how nice the staff are. He is always energetic with a positive attitude. Alex is always helpful and kind to his staff and peers, and is a joy to be around. We are so proud to name him Youth of the Month. Congratulations Alex! Palin Alston Ms. Alston is a dynamic individual and her personality makes her stand out beyond her peers. She attends C. B. Greer Elementary School as a 2nd grade student. Palin is an outgoing young lady and she's always will to help others. We are grateful to play a part in the molding of this Young lady's future. Azaelon Hillery Terrill Thomas Azaelon has been attending the Club for a little over a year and a half now and has made a great impact. Currently he is attending Altama Elementary School in the fourth grade. While there he enjoys studying Math. When he is at the Club, Azaleon can be seen having fun with his friends outside and loves playing in the Games Room. He loves playing pool and foosball at The Club. Azaelon sets a great example for younger members on how to treat other people. He is a polite young man and often is seen holding the door open for people so they can walk in front of him. He genuinely enjoys helping out around The Club especially at dinner time. When he grows up, Azaelon wants to be a Police Officer. Keep up the great work Azaelon, we are so proud of you!

3 Look What s Happening March was an exciting month for! Our members enjoyed fun activities such as Dayton Kickball and Ultimate Frisbee orchestrated by our energetic staff, Coach Tommy. Ms. Denasia kept our kids engaged through creative art projects such as Shaving Cream Painted Easter Eggs. Coach J' Rael lead our Middle School Basketball team to their first Championship game. Not only did they come away with the win, they finished the season with an amazing record of 6-0. Closing the month of March, we were paid a visit by Ms. Georgia. Ms. GA conducted prize wining games r e l a t i n g t o S T E M ( S c i e n c e T e c h n o l o g y E n g i n e e r i n g Mathematics). Following our STEM visit, we hosted our 1st Family Movie Night. The Merriment will continue as April rolls in. The Club at Risley The Boys and Girls Club at Risley has been smooth going for the month of March. We have finished up all of our basketball leagues. Although we did not place, it was a fun experience and we are looking forward to the next sport. This month, we have added decorations to our games room with what the kids have done in art. They have done a fantastic job! We signed a card to give to the principal here at Risley for giving us a safe place to come everyday. We have engaged in physical fitness in the gym through playing new games and we have also engaged in project based learning through our lesson plans. We are excited about what is to come in the month of April! The month of March has been an exciting one here at Jane Macon! We have enjoyed cheering on our basketball teams and watching great games, especially when the Eagle mascot "Swoosh" appeared at our games and basketball pep rally! We kicked off this month with the celebration of Boys & Girls Club week. We enjoyed movie day, field day, tons of crafts, making the Great Futures Quilt, learning about Duck for President, participating in a game room tournament, and our middle school kids cleaned up the local park. We also enjoyed having a Spirit Week full of games, art activities, field day, tug-of-war, and Dr. Seuss story day. We The Easter bunny also made a visit to the Club on Good Friday, which was a fun surprise! Terrill Thomas Unit This month was full of Boys & Girls Club pride starting with Boys & Girls Club Week Every day brought a new adventure for members and each day was fun filled. Monday members were encouraged to Dress for Success and participated in a Trivia game to win red, white, and blue prizes. Tuesday was teen take over day and crazy sock days. Our fifth grade and middle school members got to see what it was like to be a staff at the BGC for a day by shadowing a staff and running their areas. The teens loved it and are asking to do it again. Wednesday was storybook character day where everyone dressed up as their favorite storybook character and donated books for a local charity. Thursday was be active day and everyone headed outside for patriotic themed games and centers. Friday was Freedom Friday; everyone wore their favorite red, white, and blue outfit and participated in fun activities in their areas all afternoon. The last Friday of the Month we had a mini Spring Celebration in the Club and members enjoyed making their own play dough with marshmallows, creating mini egg hunt pudding cups, and having a dance party. St. Simons Island Unit In March, we celebrated National Boys & Girls Club Week! Each day we had a different theme that embodied what it means to be a part of the Boys & Girls Club family. On Monday, the kids enjoyed a movie day with popcorn. Then, on T-shirt Tuesday, we proudly wore our BGC shirts. On Wednesday, we celebrated a blackout bullying day where the kids learned how to take a stand against bullying. Healthy happy Thursday was a ton of fun as well. The kids enjoyed activities for developing a healthy mind and body such as making healthy snacks and playing fun physical activity games. Finally, we had Field Day Friday where all the kids received at least 60 minutes of physical activity by playing corn hole, softball, doing relay races, and having fun with bubbles, hula hoops, and jump ropes! Throughout the week, we were reminded of how wonderful it is to be part of such a great organization and had a blast celebrating! In April, we are looking forward to spring break and preparing for the end of the school year!

4 Look What s Happening Things are hopping at the Elizabeth F. Correll Teen Center in March! We have had lots of great opportunities for our teens including college visits to Savannah State University and College of Coastal Georgia. Teens enjoyed learning about each college campus programs offered. They were even able to have a meal on each campus! High school juniors and seniors focused on interviewing skill and resumes. Students pursuing the Correll Scholarship have attended mock interviews, worked through the college application process, as well as one on one sessions to improve their public speaking skills. We hosted exciting events for Boys and Girls Club week including Turn Up Tuesday party and a Freestyle Friday talent showcase. Our teens were also able to learn and develop etiquette, dining and public speaking skills in an amazing Manners Can Be Fun class with dynamic board member, Mrs. Carol Adams! They are very excite and looking forward to their final class meeting at Halyards Restaurant on St. Simons Island in April. In addition they have had an opportunity to be a part of the action in a special military police K-9 presentation and service learning presentation with College of Coastal Georgia s nursing program students. We are so happy to have gained new employees in March, Ms. Tifani Hightower, Weekend and Special Events Coordinator, and Ms. Courtney McGill, Youth Development Professional. Ms. Tifani has made great additions to our health and fitness programming, offering Zumba sessions for our members each month. She has provided great leadership though our first $1 Friday party, Trivia Night, and March Madness weekend event. Ms. Courtney McGill has also become an integral part of our staffing team, offering hands on homework assistance, conducting annual teen surveys and also serving as a judge in our Correll Scholarship mock interviews. We are looking forward to an exciting April!
