14th February 2019 Message from our staff Have a lovely Valentines Day and enjoy your half term. See you on Monday 25th February. Annabel, Annibelle, Saffron, Sophie-May, Faith from Early Years Foundation Stage came down to show Mrs Caffull some excellent letter formation. Mrs Caffull gave each of the children a Head Teacher s Award for excellent work! Well done children!! Rucksacks On World Book Day we ll be launching some special Reading Rucksacks! There is one per class, filled with books, a mascot and some other fun items. One child per week (in each class) will have the privilege of taking the rucksack home with them, and they can write about how they used the rucksack contents over the week. We hope this will provide a great opportunity to share further reading experiences at home.

Year 3, over the last few days have enjoyed being part of the 500 words Live Lessons and are currently planning our stories. We have also created a video of how to take care of your teeth and what you should do if you feel unsafe online. Many thanks for all your soil samples. We really enjoyed our soil investigations. Mrs Chapman
Year 4 have made runes and pendants in a Viking style in our Art lessons over the past few weeks. Mr Morgan We were also been visited by some Year 11 children from TTC who ran a very informative workshop about bullying and how to treat others.
Year 5 had a great time last week celebrating Chinese New Year. We tried different foods and learnt about the traditions that happen in China, including celebrating everyone s birthday on the same day! Miss Laycock
Year 6 children have thoroughly enjoyed becoming part of an Amazonian tribe! They began by composing some tribal music using instruments of their choice, then as a group, they invented their own tribal dance before performing to their classmates. They then created their face-paint and body-paint designs to give their tribe an identity within the rainforest. The children worked really hard and thoroughly enjoyed themselves! Year 2 have been busy preparing to make their own healthy vegetable soup! They enjoyed going to the local shops to buy all the ingredients and then comparing the prices when they got back to school. Mrs Stubbs Mr Morton
Summer in Year 4 Well done Summer who was crowned Walton Carnival Princess and passed her Proficiency Gymnastics Awards Levels 1 & 2 Isabelle in Year 3 Well done Isabelle who achieved distinction in her dance exam. Well done Isabelle!
Well Done Tilly in Year 4 who got her blue belt in karate and is only 5 grades away from her black belt!! Well Done McKenzie in Year 6 He came 1st place in 3 Golf competitions, 2nd place in 3 competitions and also was awarded sportsman of the season award for continued development, perseverance and positive attitudes/being a good role model.
Nevaeh, along with Ambienne, Tom, Christopher, Maisy, Mollie and Jess took part in the Swim for Maya. Raising 1260 so far, swimming 760 lengths, 12.6miles in an hour between them. They were so pleased that many of their friends and Frinton staff came along to support the event, we were lucky enough to be cheered on by Maya too!
Child safety on TikTok: parent factsheet TikTok is a video-sharing app. Users can upload and share short videos of themselves lip-syncing to songs or acting out comedy sketches, and add special effects. They can gain followers ( fans ) and browse other people s videos. You may have heard of the app by its previous name: Musically. Everything that was on Musical.ly is now on TikTok. If your child previously had a Musical.ly account they will be able to access their content on TikTok. The age recommendation is 13 and above. However, you don t have to prove your age when creating an account, so younger children can still use it easily. It s most popular with under-16s. TikTok is free to download on Android and ios devices (Apple phones and tablets). It carries ads and offers in-app purchases. It has about 150 million active users worldwide and is available in over 30 languages. What are the concerns? On the surface, nothing. TikTok has a reputation for being unusually free of trolling and danger. But you may have seen news reports or heard concerns about some users harassing children for nude images and videos. What should I look out for? User profiles which talk about trading or swapping pictures/videos Use of emojis that are commonly considered to be sexually suggestive (such as the aubergine) Hashtags, such as #tradefortrade, which clearly suggest the user is looking to trade illicit content The lyrical content of some songs parents have raised concerns that it s not always age-appropriate Users cannot exchange images and videos via in-app messaging, but once they ve made contact they move on to another platform to trade, such as Snapchat. TikTok has taken steps to remove users who it suspects are soliciting underage users. However, there are still many suggestive profiles and TikTok has committed to almost doubling the number of content moderators it employs to 10,000 to address this. What safety options are available to parents? Control who can view your child s videos Set your child s account to private so that your child can control who sees their videos or keep them completely private. Your child will be able to approve or deny people as fans, and will only be able to accept messages from followers. Instructions for this are here: Setting up a private account, TikTok Remember: Accounts are set to public by default. Public profiles can be viewed by anyone Even with a private account, your child s profile information can be seen by all users. Make sure your child doesn t reveal personal information on their public profile

Soon after half-time, Walton pulled a goal back, before they were awarded a penalty due to hand ball. Fortunately, Anastasia saved it brilliantly! Our team was Anastasia in goal, Kitty and Ruby as subs, Brooke and Annabel in defence, Imogen and Bailey as midfielders and Maisie and Faith as strikers.
