I was out of town and didn t get to participate in the Moriarty Cruise, but I was told everyone had a great time and that Hank and Margie Deck put together a very fun adventure. Can t wait until their next cruise. Thank you, Missy and Heidi, for organizing our participation in the Daffodil Parade. Even though we had a few hiccups, once again, we made a lot of teachers and a couple of councilmen very happy. Have you ever wondered what happens to those half empty toilet paper rolls that get changed out in your hotel? Emergency Food Network received a truck load of large plastic bags filled with toilet paper rolls. We repack them into card board boxes. They mentioned that this was the first time they had received this product and were extremely happy that our group was there because we are so versatile. Special thanks to Paul for all the toilet paper humor. 13 Informational Article: Car Show Season Means Photo Opportunities In the Pacific Northwest there are no shortages of things to photograph, especially if we can ever get the sun to make an appearance for more than an hour. When you combine sunshine and springtime around these parts it also means car show photos. I have seen some gorgeous photos many of you have taken over the years. Taking these shots at a car show are not always easy. Do you want people in them or not? Do you want the entire car or some cool detail? How do you deal with the sun on the beautifully waxed and polished cars? Photography is a personal thing. What one person likes isn t always what all like. It is art. So one tip I am trying to learn, shoot the image that you want to shoot. What attracted you to the photo in the first place? With digital photography you can take hundreds with only the cost of time to download. If you can get to the show early to photograph the cars that is the best. The glare isn t as bad and you may be able to catch them before the hoods are up. Engines are great but there is nothing quite like the beautiful lines of a car. Personally, I like the details. I can get the lines, patterns, color contrasts of the car without the show placards and people. Sometimes I can compose the shot without worrying about polarizing filters to remove glare. It is fun to try to tell the story of the show by getting the show prep in progress. Get that bottle of spray wax and the hands on the car shot that will be seen all over the place as the entrants get set up. Take different points of view as you compose that great shot. If I am lying on the ground I am not having a heart attack just trying to get a different perspective. But if I am down there too long, please check on me or help me up. Consider what you are shooting. Ground up looks great for the power look in a Shelby or Roush for example. Shooting from high looking down gives a fun look to a convertible. I read one time that as pretty as our cars look in the grass, watch the reflections and really, Mustangs are racers, they need asphalt. Whatever your pleasure is at a show, make it your pleasure and your memory. People know their cars are going to be photographed but it doesn t hurt to ask. Don t block the view of other spectators. Watch your equipment so it doesn t go near the car. Google car photography and you will find many suggestions and ideas. Have fun and snap away! See you on the road. Don t forget to wave. Error in April Newsletter: In the April Information Article about Bill Norman s Mustang experience, the article referred to a 1993 Mustang LX that he had purchased in Not easy to do! It should have said purchased in Sorry, Bill! A Back To The Future moment. Ideas for Future Articles: Send me your stories or ideas by the 25th of the month! What do you want to know about? 14 In the News Here are a few items from Mustang Times and other places. Check them out and see what you think. American Road Maybe all of you knew about this magazine but we just recently discovered it. Cool articles about roads and spots to stop and see along them. There is even a website americanroadmagazine.com. Hey, Nancy, they have a photo contest. Also in Mustang Times: Consider what happens as one generation takes on their place in the collector car world. According to John Clor, Ford Performance, research tells us that they collect the cars of their youth. What happens to our stangs and how do we get young people interested in classic Mustangs. Check out Historical Vehicle Association at Life is always an adventure Enjoy the ride! National Mustang Day April 17th So what did you do on April 17th? Happy Birthday to the Mustang! We celebrated with great cupcakes at our club meeting. I am sure we all drove our Stangs somewhere on that special day for everyone to admire. I know I did. I know you have been waiting for the answer to the Red, White, and Blue question from last month. Did anyone get it? ANSWER: All known Mustangs built on the assembly line the 1st day of pre-production in Dearborn, Michigan with the exception of three black ones, were painted red, white, or blue. Mustang Genesis

15 February Club Events Cruising with the Club: Mustangs Not Required, Enthusiasm Is! Moriarty Cruise April 1 Hank and Margie you out did yourselves today. What a cool cruise this was. Sure, it started out a bit rainy, but it dried up and was great fun all the way. Beginning at McDonalds we were given instructions and our first clues. The goal to find where Moriarty was hiding. After some hot drinks, some breakfasts, and some quiet conversations as people tried to decipher the first set of clues, THE GAME WAS AFOOT. Margie and Hank set off on a cross country cruise through Pierce County. We traveled from Lakewood to Spanaway to Orting to Fife to Tacoma and back to Spanaway. We stopped in parking lots, city parks, gas stations (for cars and bodies) and a costume shop with a 221 B Baker Street Model Room. At each stop we received another clue and had the chance to buy up to 3 more. We finally ended up at the home of Hank and Margie where we ate and discovered the answer to where Moriarty was hiding. All of the clue money went to the 50/50 and we also started collecting peanut butter for the Ford Peanut Butter Drive. So you want to know where it was???? These lips are sealed. You never know when we may need these clues again. I can tell you that the 221 B Baker Street Room was very cool with all sorts of items you would expect to see in the stories, therefore, the life of Holmes and Watson. I have never read the actual stories but I will now as Paul and I won one of the Holmes books with the original stories and illustrations. However, I will have to read all 636 pages (37 short stories and 1 complete novel small type) in one setting as someone who shall remain nameless Nancy stole my bookmark. It was a great cruise and one different from our usual, except maybe when we are hunting for chocolate in February or when a few of us may miss read directions and need to hunt for the string of Mustangs that we lost. Hope to see you on the next cruise, Loop Cruise, in May.

16 2017 Daffodil Parades It is spring in Pierce County and what do we want to see.sunshine..but besides that, Daffodils and more Daffodils. Spring sometimes brings showers and sometimes not and that was the order of the day as our club escorted the Teachers of the Year from around Pierce County in four 2017 Daffodil Parades. We had 18 teachers, 9 convertibles, and 5 coupes that ducked the rain between parades to bring cheers of let s hear the engines from old and young and in between. We gave them a show. A special thanks to Korum and Lakewood Ford dealerships for loaning us 2 convertibles for the day. They went the extra mile trying to find them in the last week before the parade and they were beauties! The umbrellas came out in a couple of spots to protect the riders and convertible interiors and tops went up between the parades. All seemed to weather the weather well. parades, waiting to see the floats and cars go by in all their yellow daffodil glory. It is clear from the joy on their faces and the jumping up and down of the kids that this is something they all look forward to. Perhaps it is the sign of spring. Perhaps it is the colorful floats. Perhaps it is the music of bands or from the floats. Perhaps it is the rumble of engines on beautifully shined Mustangs. Whatever it is, the excitement and joy that you see as you travel through the streets of Tacoma, Puyallup, Sumner, and Orting from 10:00 to 5:30 is worth whatever bit of hassle the weather or months of preparing have caused. You forget all about that when the first little kid, shivering from under a blanket or the senior citizen in a wheelchair with oxygen in place looks up and smiles and says, Nice Car! Rev it Up! Rain or not, the streets were packed with spectators cheering and smiling and enjoying the parade. Some even came up to the cars for a fist pump or high 5. Driving in these close quarters is always an adventure but a lot of fun as well. From my perspective, what makes the day are the people lined up, even along the routes between

17 FNDO Homestead April 21 A room full of Stangers come out in the sunshine and joined together to eat some home style cooking at the Homestead. From the sounds in the room it seemed as if the crowd was glad to get out and about on one of the most beautiful days of the year so far. NO RAIN!!!! These once a month meals together are always fun. There is laughter, good food, reflections on the week and I don t have to cook. Oh wait, my husband does most of the cooking at our house. It is safer that way although it might be a good diet plan. But I got sidetracked..the food was good and everyone seemed to have a great time. Come join us next month at the Warthog at Pacific Ave, Tacoma. Emergency Food Network April 22 toilet paper. We were on a roll at EFN this month as we really cleaned up. As we entered we were guessing, is it going to be peas or corn? Or maybe oats? We were told that it was something we have never done before and it was a non-food item, so the guesses changed to shampoo or tooth brushes and tooth paste. We were in the right room.. You may remember that we did frozen peas one year and the jokes, well you remember. There were a few for this event as well. None to be repeated. At least when the toilet paper roles hit Pete in the head it wasn t as bad as the spoiled oranges. Some of us got into our rolls even more than others! Seriously, we always have a good time helping this worthy cause. This day we repackaged 4,125 pounds of toilet paper. Think about it. That is a lot of paper. (90 boxes at about 120 rolls per box comes to about rolls.) What will it be on October????
