9 Mustang of the Month Dave and Betty Ringlee 1967 Mustang Convertible This car has a sordid past! The original owner purchased this San Jose built car in San Jose, CA. Apparently, within the first year of ownership, his daughter borrowed the car for a date with her boyfriend..well, you can imagine, kids in a Mustang in California!! The story goes that they were caught doing whoopee in the car, and Mom and Dad decided that the car had been soiled and they could not drive it again! Different culture in 1967!! He immediately sold the car to a neighbor, that man passed it on to his granddaughter and her husband, he sold to us in February 2016, so we are the third formal owners of this two family car. The original black plates were still licensed for the car thru The car was driven until the mid 1990 s, when the receipt trail showed that it pretty much stopped driving. We have the original window stickers, owners manuals and many original receipts from the owners, including smog inspection certificates validating mileage over the life of this car. In 2002, the car was taken to Kirkendals in San Jose for a major strip down, and got all new paint ( Pepper Gray Metallic the Eleanor color), leather interior, glass, wheels, tires and a new convertible top. Original factory paint was Ivy Gold Metallic with black interior and power top. The trail of receipts shows all new front suspension in 1996, and only 3500 miles driven since then for a total mileage of 115,000. New Members Jim Chapman Puyallup 1978 Light Aqua Metallic Mustang It is a base convertible, 289, 2bbl, and C4 automatic all original, sounds great and runs very well for its age except for the rear main seal drip! It also has factory power front disc brakes and power steering. It has lived in San Jose and Sacramento until we brought it to Gig Harbor in February This car has not been washed with water or seen rain since Our first work on the car was to protect the underbelly from rust with POR 15. It lives on the top perch of the garage lift and only goes out to play on nice days. In my search for a Mustang, I quickly learned that I had to see any prospective car on a lift to verify with my own eyes that it had no, or minimal rust. I have seen some very scary rust buckets from underneath! If a seller was reluctant, I wrote them off. It was very easy to find local restoration shops that would put a car on a lift for a small fee. I traveled to see several Washington, California and Salt Lake City 67 Mustangs before finding this well loved beauty!!!! Daffodil Parade April 8th Sign up to drive teachers in your convertible or enjoy the parade in your coupe. We need cars!! Convertibles Missy Willert Coupes Heidi Geise More details to come. Don t miss the fun!

11 Informational Article: Yes It Is That Time-Car Show Preparation Time! So you know what time it is? Yeah, TOOL TIME! But we mean tools of the trade for detailing and getting those cars ready to show. My husband and I are doing our first one on March 11th at Griot s. Anyone going with us? It is a rough time of year because we have to get that winter dirt off, clay, polish, wax, wash, dry You know the routine. And we must do it in the cold. haven t really tried that one yet but I ll bet we see it in March. Absolutely know that the car show season is right around the corner. Which means that there is much to do in the next month or so. That first prepping is the hardest so quit procrastinating, get the hand warmers out and clean and shine away! Find those thermals and check the weather for a reasonable day no rain and little chance the wash water will freeze to the car or the driveway. That isn t cool. I know because my Dad was none to happy when he came home from work and found I had just washed my new (about 1984) cardovan Mustang. (My husband says it was brown. I say it was burgundy.) Washing wasn t the problem. What was the problem was the approximately 1/2 inch of ice on the driveway when I was done. There was a lot of salt and scraping that day. But Dad, I am only a girl. What do I know about washing cars in the winter? I say, use it when you need to. So the club is doing a Tech Session at Griot s on March 26th. I am sure we ll be introduced to all their newest products. One item I know they have is a claying mitt. Instead of the time it takes to clay the car, you use the same routine but the mitt rather than the clay. We used it last year and it seemed to work pretty well in much less time. They also have a new cleaner like Speed Shine but with wax in it, Best of Show Detailer. It flashes off quickly so it can even be used in the direct sun. Good for those show day needs. We See you on the road. Don t forget to wave. Ideas for Future Articles: Send me your stories or ideas by the 25th of the month! What do you want to know about? Send to: pcmceditor@gmail.com

12 In the News To keep us up on what is happening in our family of Mustang enthusiasts across the country and beyond I thought an interesting addition to our newsletter would be some simple thoughts/news that come from other newsletters or the Mustang Times. If you would like more details on these topics, check out the sources provided. From Mustang Times February 2017 issue Donald Farr, Mustang Times Editor, pg 6 Meme on Facebook on a photo of 2 Mustang drivers waving at each other as they passed on the street When you own a Mustang, you not only drive an American icon, you become part of a family Women s Performance Car of the Year is the Mustang. Voted on by 17 judges (all women) across 14 countries for its grip and suspension which give the driver the feeling of control. According to the article, one judge mentioned also the silver-screen celebrity status. pg 11 MCA President, Jeff Mays, pg 4 Is there an electric Mustang in the near future? From your editors perspective: I have heard this as well. Let s see what happens. If so, I hope it comes with a CD of Mustang engine sounds. Journey (AAA magazine) - March/April, pg 45 An Alternative to the Gas Tax? An article in the most resent AAA magazine talks about the experiment for finding an alternative to the gas tax. Up to 2000 volunteers will be involved in testing options ranging from allowing participants to purchase a block of miles to using mileage meters. The questions that will be the focus of the testing would be such issues as: a) would there be equity between urban, suburban, and rural motorist, b) would there be adequate privacy protections and data security, and c) would motorists understand how to comply, The article stated that according to WSTC s RUC website, This pilot project is testing the road usage charge only as a replacement to the gas tax, not as an additional tax. From MMHF Newsletter March 2017 Editor Betty Fox (reprinted with permission) Oregon Kills Bill to Substantially Tax Older Vehicles Oregon legislation (H.B. 2877) that would have required registered owners of vehicles 20 years old and older to pay a $1,000 impact tax every five years was quickly killed after an onslaught of objections were lodged by vehicle owners in the state. Under the bill, vehicles registered as antiques would have been exempted from the tax. House Speaker Tina Kotek s office confirmed with the SEMA Action Network that the bill will not be considered and was dead on arrival. Thank you to those who participated in opposing this bill! Life is always an adventure Enjoy the ride!

13 Pony News March February Club Events Cruising with the Club: Mustangs Not Required, Enthusiasm Is! Cupid Cruise Feb. 11 especially after checking out all the wonderful desserts! Not enough time to try them all Oh yeah, there was some What a great day for a cruise! The sun was out and 18 beautiful Mustangs and one SUV set out to Le Donuts, Johnson s Candy, Almond Roca, and lunch at EQC in Fife. We had donuts at Le Donuts to start our sugar rush! I had a maple bar with bacon yum! The donuts gave us the quick energy to drive over to Johnson s Candy about 3 blocks. Johnson s Candy has been in the same spot for over 50 years after trying the candy I know why. Larry recommends the chocolate covered cherries with brandy. Next stop Almond Roca in Fife! Bill Norman and Roger Britten cleaned out the store, not really but they did find some really good bargains. If you like Almond Roca you need to check them out for some great buys. Lunch at EQC! The sugar rush was not over, great food from the buffet to try too. See the Charity page to find the collection of hats, gloves, and socks from this cruise.
