1 2017 MASP Show Script Doug: Curtain Opens to Song: Song 1, ME TOO Doug: Music: Song 1A Celebrate, after the opening number and girls are waving on stage Intro: Girls are already lined up behind the curtain as the opening number video plays. Contestants will go to the front wave and walk off. All titleholders will enter last with Ashley first and then the 6 girls. Girls leave and go get into the Runway dress. Note: new podium, announcers will have 5x7 cards to read from and one microphone for on stage guest, headsets for emcees, Darrin can you make sure all three of you are fitted with mics. Emcees enter stage right, as the last couple of girl s leave or when they are done you will introduce yourselves. 1

Darrin: Introduce yourselves: Good evening I am Darrin Landry and joining me tonight are Comedy Central s: Shannon Folsom and WMTW morning news anchor Cristina Frank. We want to welcome you to the 2017 USA National Miss Maine and MS Maine Pageants, sponsored by Crossroad s, Maine Academic Scholarship Program. (small talk, here you can say how nice everyone looks, in their Ashley Lauren dresses. And she is providing all the emcees dresses for the evening, also the older division titleholders were wearing A.L.) Cristina: Designer ASHLEY Lauren is providing the emcees with their gowns this evening and our lovely senior division titleholders were wearing their national opening number dresses from ASHLEY Lauren. 2

3 Shannon: We are back for our 7 th year anniversary! And Wow, that is a lot of contestants, just 7 years ago when I competed there were only 4 girls in the pageant. (small talk) Cristina. Tonight s program is being professional recorded and photographed, so we ask that you silence your cell phones, and refrain from any type of photography. Darrin: (add a piece about your tux) You will see our photographers Becky Bushey, Eduard Chenette, and Mandy McQueen walking around and our videographer Jeb Cobb from Cobb Productions. Their job is to capture the special moments for our lovely delegates so that you can sit back and enjoy the show. Shannon: If you need to leave during the show, be sure to gently close the doors and leave through the back of the auditorium as we are videotaping the show. Side doors are for emergencies only. 3

4 Cristina: Let s move on and meet the people whose job is to choose our new titleholders. Our first judge holds a masters in occupational therapist from UNH. She is the co-founder and co-director of the Miss Sensational Pageant, a program sponsored by Crossroads that celebrates the beauty, strength, and abilities of women and girls with disabilities. She was fourth runner up to Miss Maine USA 2015 and work as a travel therapist. Please welcome: Katherine Ambrose Shannon: Our second judge is the former 2012 Mrs. New Hampshire. She is the owner, publisher and executive director of Platinum Productions; which houses NH Wedding Magazine, and Poise New England Magazine; She holds a degree as a cosmetic dental assistant and earned her certification in desktop publishing from UNH. She resides in New Hampshire with her family. Please welcome Carrie Alex Darrin: Our third judge, A born and raised Maine Entrepreneur, our next judge is known for his work in resurrecting the historic Saco Drive-In movie theater and Maine's youngest 40 under 40 recipient. His fashion enthusiasm took him 4

5 to founding a luxury men's apparel website Man Brands Club, that offers men an upscale fun alternative to men's accessories. He recently relocated to San Francisco area. Please welcome Ry Russell. Cristina: Our fourth judge has been competing in pageants for 5 years, voted Miss Congeniality at the Miss Maine USA competition in Most recently held the title of Miss Maine United States 2014 while simultaneously completing her BA and working full time. She is the manager at Tavecchia by Blush. As a hobby she works with local photographers to provide their clients with hair and makeup, from Portland, please welcome Katherine Meservier. Shannon: Our Fifth judge was born in Presque Isle and lived in Easton for the first 18 years. She moved to Southern Maine to attend UNE, where she received a Bachelor's in Medical Biology. She is passionate about Suicide Awareness & Prevention as she lost her father to suicide 36 years ago. She is also thankful and honored for all of the amazing opportunities she had this past year representing Maine as Mrs. Maine America Please welcome Lori Geroulo- 5

6 White Darrin: Our final and head judge for the evening is serving his 2nd term in the Maine House of Representatives. He has made national history as being the nation s youngest openly gay legislator and Maine's youngest lawmaker at age 21. Advocate magazine named him an architect of the next decade and listed him among the 40 Under 40 most accomplished leaders throughout the country in He currently works for the Journal Tribune as their Digital Advertising Executive and is the owner of a multimedia public relations company. He is the founder of the non-profit organization, Saco Bay Center for Civic Engagement. And He is currently running for State Senate in District 31, Please welcome, Rep Justin Chenette. Cristina: please see the program book for all of our judge s full bios. We also want to thank our Jr. Division Interview judges that help us out this afternoon, Samantha Clark, Cheryl Gifford, Vickie Charity, Teresa Holmes, Eduard 6

7 Chenette. Thank you to all our judges and judges hostesses, for volunteering your time and expertise. Shannon: The Scoring system used for calculation is the Tally Genie, an electronic web based application, that allows the judges to score the contestants and for the auditor to retrieve the scores in less than 5 seconds of the last judge s entry. This system allows us fast, accurate, results with no room for human errors, it even tells us if a judge didn t vote. This system is a welcomed requirement of the USA National Miss Scholarship Pageant. Darrin: Before we get started with our signature Runway Fashion competition, we want to also take this time to thank our numerous volunteers. It has been a long day and weekend for them and our delegates. This program would not be possible without them. Shannon: A big thank you for our Stage manager, Greg Brackett who has been with Crossroads since conception in 1999, thank you Greg for all you do for us and the community and for your 17 years of service. 7

8 Cristina: Thank you to our local directors, and All the backstage crew, Back stage manager Camille Saucier, Lauren Folsom. We want to also send a thank you also to our house manager Thornton Academy s Doug Stebbins and our videographer and photographer and the evening would not be possible or complete without a very special thank you to all our sponsors, please take the time to review their ads in our program book, and visit booths during intermission, as they have all been so gracious by supporting the delegates and our donating to our pageant. Doug: Start music Let s divide the delegates into three groups. Jr. Princess and Princess for Shannon to read, Preteen and Jr Teen for Darrin, Teen through MS for Cristina. When you are not reading you can step off stage and take a break. Shannon: now moving on to tonight s show. Our first competition of the evening is Runway. In this competition the judges will be looking for fitness, 8

9 personality, charisma, and the delegate s ability to show her personality! Let s meet our delegates in the Runway competition starting with our Jr. princesses: Doug: Music starts with the Runway songs, three girls come out and take their positions, just loop the music and fade after Janell Beal. refer to the contestant list and divisions on page one, Cristina: That concludes the Runway competition. The Maine Academic Scholarship Program is a fundraiser of Crossroads Youth Center. Our 13 local pageants range from Fort Kent to Kennebunkport, and these delegates serve as peer ambassadors for our platform, the Crown CARES, creating a respectful environment in Schools. All of the titleholders from our locals, win their registration fee to attend the state pageant, and compete for the title in their respective divisions. Darrin: In its 7 th year, the Maine Academic Scholarship Pageant exists for the purpose of providing personal and professional opportunities and scholarship for young ladies and women in Maine. It is our goal to provide these young 9

10 women the opportunity to compete in a pageant system that offers community involvement, scholarships, respect, integrity, healthy living with a venue that supports the highest of moral values and social awareness to mirror Crossroads mission. Shannon: It is also designed to award young women for their accomplishments, and to mentor them to reach their goals and unleash their true potential through a positive pageantry experience whether it is visiting a school or classroom, making an appearance or touring the State Capital and talking about their personal platform and ours. Darrin: A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to travel to Boca Raton with our state director and several local directors to support the 2016 Maine titleholders. Several of our Local directors also traveled to Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to support Sammie Clark as she crowned her successor. The Maine girls brought home some impressive awards. 10

11 At USA National Miss our Maine girls brought home 6 Presidential awards, 6 Day of service awards, one top 15, for Miss Maine Pre-teen, Alana Ireland, the Teen talent winner who you saw perform last evening, Yessenia Vilar, and our state director Deb Landry honored with the Director of the Year award. Cristina: At Dollywood, MS New England Heather Maynard was crowned the National MS Ambassador by our 2015 MS Maine Kim Parent and Sammie Clark crowned her Maine and National successor Ashley Caron-Estey. Shannon: Shannon, take the mic and go center stage to talk with them, Darrin and Cristina can leave the stage) Let s welcome our National MS titleholders to the stage. Kim Parent, Samantha Clark and Heather Maynard. (Heather is going to present a check to me. You can ask them some questions about their experience.) 1. Kim you were first runner up last year at nationals, and you took over the title, what was that like? (Kim to respond, mention that you also took on a local pageant) 11

12 2. I also understand that you will be honored by your alma mater this fall? (Kim responds) 3. Heather you represented N. E. and won the ambassador crown, tell us a little bit about that. (Heather responds) 4. Sammie, you were our Maine representative two years ago and went on to nationals and won the national title. Tell us about that, Sammie Clark responds, 5. And then you crowned Ashley here last year as MS Maine and had the opportunity to crown her again at nationals! Sammie responds. 6. Sammie: I want to introduce our National MS Director Siouxzan Feller, who is in the audience this evening. Souzan would you stand up and the recognized. (applause) 7. Kim can you tell us about the state platform. Kim: As a local director, mom, and participant, I honored to represent our state platform. This spring UNM chose the Crown CARES as their official national platform. This Program allows for national expansion and a wider range of scholarship opportunities for delegates. The Crowns CARES, 12

13 bullying prevention and awareness program, assist our titleholders to tackle the number one problem facing children and teens in schools and in our communities today. This researched based program, provides free education and educational materials to schools by sending titleholders, peer ambassadors and volunteers to read and talk about the warning signs of bullying. Our goal is to focus on school children and youth to understand that they are not alone and how they can be effective bystanders. So with that said, Heather, has a presentation to make to our director. Welcome our state director Deb Landry (Heather can say what she wants to here, Shannon can leave the stage with the MS and Cristina comes on with Darrin) Presentation of the check Thanks ladies, let s give them one more round of applause as they exit the stage. 14 Darrin: Also visiting us tonight is the young lady that took home the USA National Miss Jr Teen title at nationals this year, Kelsey Dube. Kelsey comes on stage, we may also have Jackie B. Watson come out here, I will add it later if so. Cristina: Welcome Kelsey, you have had a business year already, what have you been doing since you were crowned? Kelsey responds What does your year look like as USA National Miss Jr. Teen? Kelsey responds. Darrin: While we have you here Kelsey we would like you to stay while we welcome a special guest, who is visiting this evening from Georgia. She is the recipient of the 2015 Prestige Director Award at the Prestige Pageantry Awards show, named as a Top 5 best national director by American Pageant Magazine, and named top 10 Director from the Pageant Planet two years in a row. Author of Winning the Crown, please welcome, the one and only: Jackie B. Watson. Jackie will speak, then Kelsey and Jackie will exit the stage. 14

15 Darrin: Earlier today our contestants meet for a private interview with our judges. The contestants were scored on community service, their conversational and interview skills, based on their resume. The judges were looking for young women with the unique ability to represent the organization with grace and sophistication and who is eager to join the organization as a volunteer and titleholder and represent the Crown CARES. Shannon: (back at the podium) Now it is time for the final phase of competition, the evening gown. The judges will score the delegates on their poise, beauty, grace and composure. Refer to the contestant sheet again; Doug: Gown Music starts play the gown song. loop Cristina: That concludes the Evening Gown competition. while our judges finish up their scoring and comments, we will take a 15-minute intermission. When we return we will welcome back our 2016 titleholders for their final walk and crown our new Miss Maine s. 15

16 Intermission FAREWELLS in order, Darrin you will be off stage running the videos. Shannon: (make the announcement for the first one and then you can leave until it is over) welcome back, before we can crown our 2017 titleholders we want to say goodbye and thank you to our 2016 queens. Greg: Set up dots and table for the crowning during intermission Awards: Cristina: The super model title is a combination of the runway score and the portfolio of photos submitted and judged prior to the pageant. The supermodel winners will be announced during their divisional awards and each will have the opportunity for their portfolios to be reviewed by MMG. Darrin: I will give you the person and the division of the following winners, you will announce them before the crowning of the winner in that category. I don t know what category they are in yet. It might be easiest if you continue to name off the winners of the groups you announced on stage during competition. Doug: same music and crowning song for all. Drum roll for the last two girls standing and then the crowning song as soon as the name has been read, repeat 7 times!! Cristina: Well it s that time, let s welcome our MS delegates back to the stage Ladies, thank you for a wonderful job, I know any of you would make fantastic titleholders for our organization. 18
