SMS PROUD Veterans Day Veterans Day is a time to honor and thank all military personnel who served the United States in all wars, particularly living veterans. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 an armistice between Germany and the Allied nations came into effect. On November 11, 1919, Armistice Day was commemorated for the first time. We at Saint Michael School will hold our celebration to honor all local veterans during Catholic Schools Week on Tuesday, January 30, with a luncheon and program. Details will follow in future newsletters. They are coached by Mr. Harpst and Mrs. Suhar and assisted by Makayla Utlak. County Chorus: Abigail Harcourt, Alicia Sowash, Rachel Varga, and Joey Varga. Directed by Mr. Dan Hogan Pink Angels of Greenville: Thank you to everyone that supported the fundraiser for the Pink Angels Foundation. We raised $ Catholic Charities: Thank you to everyone that supported this fundraiser. We raised $ Good Shepherd Center: Thank you to everyone that brought in a canned good. Homeroom Parents: Thank you to the homeroom parents that helped with the classroom Halloween parties. Congratulation: Alana Utlak Grade 7 and Makayla Utlak, 2014 graduate of SMS and our girls varsity assistant coach, competed at The Quarter Horse Congress. It is the largest single breed show in the country. There are over 23,500 horse show entries and attracts more than 650,000 spectators. Alana showed in the Hunt Seat Equitation placing 12 th out of 72 entries and Western Showmanship placing 7 th out of 86 entries. She also made it back to the finals in Trail and Horsemanship being in the top 20 out of the class. Makayla showed in Western Horsemanship placing 15 th out of 119 entries and making it back to the finals top 20 in Trial. Makayla graduates from Kennedy Catholic this year.

Family Advent/Christmas Party Our 4 rd Annual Family Christmas/Advent Party is Monday, December 4 th from 6:30 8 PM. This is sponsored by the PTO and is a well-attended event to get everyone in the Christmas spirit. There will again be Lighting of the Advent Wreath, Christmas caroling, decorating the Christmas Tree, and the Mercer High School Show Choir. Please invite family and friends to join in on the festivities and celebrate the Advent season as we prepare for the coming of the Christ child. Save the Date Christmas Program St. Michael School s annual Christmas program, choir, and band concert is on Wednesday, December 20 th. Grades PreK 5 will be in the program. Band and Choir members will also perform. The evening event is at 7PM. Please invite your family and friends to attend. Inclement Weather With weather delays and cancellation coming too quickly, please be advised the Saint Michael School will make an independent decision on whether to delay or cancel school. This decision is not decided by our surrounding public schools. Parents will be notified through our Blackboard alert system, TeacherEase , school website, KDKA TV, Youngstown TV Channels, and Erie TV. DRESS FOR THE WEATHER Please dress your child for outdoor recess (PreK-5). Unless the weather is rain or below freezing, teachers and students like to go outside for the fresh air. Remember the boots and snow-pants when the snow arrives.

YOUTH ACTIVITY RUMMAGE SALE Does your child do Little Dribblers, sports, any academic game, band, choir, extracurricular activities at SMS? If so, they benefit from the SMS Youth Activity Organization. Attached is information regarding the rummage sale to benefit SMS youth activities. Workers are needed to help make this event a success. Almost every student in the school benefits in some way through the Youth Activity program. The end of year banquet is the largest event held for students that participated in any activities - athletic, academic, or extracurricular at SMS. Some of the activities funded through this account are: Little Dribblers Pep Squad - Cheerleading Academic Games PJAS - NHD Sports: Basketball Swim Track Golf Fine Arts: Choir Band Christmas Program Technology Senate Guest Page Program Erin Scullin Tournament and Trophies Youth Activity Banquet and Gifts ON ORCHARD STREET Parents are reminded to not park on Orchard Street between the school and Lateran Hall, especially when waiting to pick up children from practices in Lateran Hall. This is posted as no parking. We have been informed that the neighbors have requested the Greenville police ticket cars parked in this area. Also, the parking area on the east side of Lipani Way is posted for the apartments only.
