FUN!!! Such was the situation when the Fossils met at Hole-In-One, mini-golf on Thursday evening. This blood free event challenged members to be serious. But, how could that be possible; we horsed around, put balls in the pond and generally laughed our way through the 18 holes. A few achieved hole-in-one shots, but most were not up to par. The post game was followed up with ice cream and conversation. I don t know who had the best score, but I believe we all won. Just an all around fun time with the Fossils. Adaptation from Hemmings Muscle Magazine Summer is Here Summer temperatures bring thoughts of BBQs and beach outings. But summer temperatures also bring on stress to our classic cars. It gets very hot under the hood as the summer temperatures rise. This causes the thermal load to rise dramatically. Our car s cooling system does little to protect the temperature of ignition wires, alternator, carb and everything else under the hood. Take for example ignition wires. They are insulated but not against heat. The heat causes the molecular structure of the sheathing, especially on older wires and cheaper brands, to change and degrade in voltage capacity. For example, at 300 degrees, the wires may be able to handle 10,000 volts, but jump up the temperature 10 or 20 degrees and there is a 30% decrease in voltage delivered to the spark plug and the engine can misfire. We might blame the gas or carb for the poor performance such as bucking or stalling, but it is the heat. The other danger is heat soak. Contrary to popular belief, the temperature in your engine bay does not decrease immediately when you turn off the engine; just the opposite. When the cooling system shuts down and the car is not moving, temperatures actually initially rise on some components as the heat is still trapped in the engine bay. Fuel can boil or percolate as it absorbs the residual heat. Modern fuels are more prone to percolation that the older fuels since they are designed to work best in fuel injection systems where the fuel is under high pressure and difficult to boil. On carbureted cars, the fuel floods the engine first and then starves it. What can you do to prevent the heat from impacting your engine and components? Well the easiest thing is to keep your cooling system in peak condition and open the hood when you get to your

2 destination. This allows the heat to dissipate into the air and cool down the engine bay. Drivers who keep their hoods closed at shows and cruises during the summer months are just asking for trouble down the road. Last Trustee Meeting Update: Tuesday, June 3, 2014 Meeting called to order on June 3, 7:00 pm Location Wheeler House. In attendance were Mel, Simon, Joan, Bonnie and myself. Absent Trustees were Buzzy, Walter. Minutes from the May Trustee's meeting were read and approved. Communications: 1. TD Bank - 2 statements. (General Account & Gaming Account) 2. Paul Liszczak - Car for sale 3. NJ office of the Attorney General - Gaming License. Comm. Reports: Tres. Report by Bonnie Motion by Joan to approve, 2nd by Mel - Vote- Approved Web Site - Joanie Web site is being updated as new information come in, if you have anything for the web site contact Joanie. Go to the Web site for car shows, cruise nights, social event and pictures from these event will be posted after the event Awards Luncheon - Bonnie - No report at this time. News Letter - Bill - Rich put out the June News letter, send him pictures and write up of events you attend to have him put it in the News Letter. If you have an area of interest write a short article for the News Letter. Car Show - Joanie & Bill Follow up from the car Show. 77 Cars attended, All reports were that everyone had a good time, the event was a success, with a profit that will help us support the charities and organizations we have in the past. We will start with a $ Scholarship to an Ocean county Vo. Tec student going on to further education in the Automotive field, in memory of Bob Perry Additional information about the Car Show in 2015 will be taken up in New Business. Cruise Comm. - Bill May cruise night great weather for the event, Estimated 55 cars plus the club cars in attendance. Everyone had a good time we sold a few car show t-shirts. Flyers for the June cruise night were passed out asking that everyone attending the June Cruise night bring a non-perishable food product. The collected food will be donated to the Freehold food pantry in the Fossil's name by Denise.

3 At this time the possibility of a second cruise night in Manchester hosted by JB's 57 Dinner is a no go. The reason the management company for the mall has not and will not return our calls for information need for us to secure the insurance we need to cover the event. They refuse to contact us or Cooper, thus I have given up the idea. Sorry Copper but no insurance no cruise. Social Comm. - Bill Rich and Denise have set up a Miniature Golf event for June 7:00 pm at the Hole in One on Rt. 33 Millstone. Contact Rich or Denise for more details. Old Business: Members will be sent an with the information about the Food Pantry with a request that if attending please let me know what nights Wed, or Thurs. you will attend. This list will then be ed back to the members. New Business: A motion to move the 2015 car show to the Sunday after Mother's day, with a rain date of the following Sunday. Anyone with items for the show that needs to drop them off because they cannot attend the next week, or has no space to store the items can drop them off to Bill and he will see that they get to the show on the rain date. This is to get the show away from the 4 other shows that are on the Sat date, and the fact many people work on Sat. When we had the show on Sundays we averaged 125+ cars on Sat. we had 77. Motion made by Bill 2nd by Joan- Vote 4 yes No - Approved 1st reading for new member Dan Smith. Cars 66 Vet, 36 Ford truck (project)- lives in Jackson 1st reading for new member Fredrick "Stan" Taylor Cars 32 High Boy, 67 Mustang - lives in Jackson 1st reading for John Schiavone. Car 72 Plymouth Duster - lives in Jackson All have been given details about the club, membership requirements, and have been asked to introduce themselves when in attendance with Fossils members at an event. They will be voted on for full membership in the club at the July Trustee meeting. We have received a request from Jackson Memorial High School for people with 64, 74, 84, 94, 04, 14 year Convertible for their 50th anniversary celebration in the Fall of Anyone interested contact Bill for contact names at the school. Simmon is on a mission for a possible cruise night in Brick for the 2015 season. To report back at a later meeting. Motion by Bill to fund the $ Scholarship for the Vo Tec. student to be named at a latter date. Date of presentation is June 25, 2014 at 12:45 pm in Toms River. 2nd by Simmon - Vote 4- Yes and 0 - no. - Approved. Good and Welfare: None

4 Meeting Ended at 8:15 pm. Report from the 1st Fossils Miniature Golf Open Tournament By Bill Wheeler Date June 19, 2014 Hole in One, Route 33 Millstone, NJ 7:00 pm 20 members and 2 grand children were in attendance. Groups of 4 to 6 were drawn up and off we went to the 18 holes. The following is a short and incomplete report on the outcome of this event. I know we saw and heard a lot of laughter. It seems some thought they were playing some sort of water polo golf because their golf balls spent more time in the water then on the course. One group of 4 did not keep score thus the totals included reflect only those that did keep score. 9 men and 9 female keep score there were 8 hole's in one, the ladies had 5 the Boys had only 3. Terrie had 2 - Good Job Terrie, The 9 males accounted for 502 strokes to complete the 18 holes, the 9 females took 532 strokes to complete the 18 holes, thus the Boys win the team contest by 30 strokes, better luck next time ladies!! Now for the 1st and 2nd. place winners for both Female and Male golfers well you will just have to attend the awards luncheon to find out. Pictures taken at the event can be viewed on the web site along with pictures from the Car Show, the Long Branch Car Show also. Next Trustee Meeting: July 1, 2014 From Joanie Just to let everyone know that the web page has been updated with new car shows, new pictures of the car show, Memorial Day parade, and the Long Branch Show. If you have gone to a show and have taken pictures there and want to post them to the web page get them to me and I will put them there. I added a new page to the web site. It is Items for Sale. If you have a car, or car parts for sale forward me pictures and a description of the item(s) and I will add it to the page.

5 Lastly, the Fossils usually attend the "Don't Forget the Vets" car show on July 19th at Michael Tighe Park in Freehold (65 Georgia Rd). Tom will save spots for us but we need to know how many are coming. You can call Bonnie to let her know if you are planning on attending. P.S. we all bring food to share. Rich & Denise are bringing Hot Dogs and Rolls for all. New Members: Welcome 3 new Fossil members. John & Kathy Schiavone driving 440 black MOPAR, Dan & Debbie Smith driving a customized blue Vette, and Stan and Carol Taylor driving a 32 Hemi Highboy Ford. Member Cars Works in Progress : Member s Cars/Parts for Sale: These parts were donated to the club from person whose father had a '53 Olds. 2 power steering pumps, starter, set of 4 wire hub caps with centers, 3 hub caps, headlight bezel and other misc stuff. If anyone is interested in them contact Bill. Joan will be posting it on the

6 website and Craig's list. Cost to non-members is shipping and a donation to the club. Can be all or parts. Helmetta Day or what you can do with a trophy The tiny town of Helmetta hosted its first Helmetta Car Show on Saturday, June 7 th. This show turned out to be a big surprise. Generally, the first time you organize an event, such as a car show, there are not that many car enthusiast that show up. However, this proved to be a mega show. There were well over 100 vehicles at Helmetta Day and the quality level was very high. DJ Jerry played the sounds as the vendors pulled in major bucks. The beer truck kept pumping out brews and the ice cream truck.well they simply ran out of product. At the end of the day, which ran a little late, the trophies were awarded. To my surprise I received a trophy, but that is where the humor begins. As I returned home I found my grand children playing in the front yard, my granddaughter looked at the shiny marble and chrome award, took it into her hands and asked, Can I kill bugs with it? That was a moment worth recording because kids say the craziest things. I guess there are multiple used for trophies, but big or small they reflect a good day doing what car guys do. We love the iron horses, but long after the trophy is gone, I will remember the innocents and humor in the words of a child.
