Sports Events: Equestrian: Basketball: The Equestrian team have competed twice in the last couple of weeks at the Paraparaumu interschool and the Te Horo interschool against 20 other local schools. They did very well, placing in every section of every ring, and overall coming fourth. Particular congratulations to Rose Barnett and Eden Davis who got grand champion in their rings. Rose Barnett Football: KCU (Kapiti Coast United) Football Club are looking for girls to join an all-girls football team to play on Saturdays. If you are interested please contact Clare on Kapiti College Seniors Basketball Training Day this Saturday 14 April See flyer further in newsletter

Mountain Bike Club: Mountain bike club has had a successful first term. We ran social rides at Whareroa farm and Wainuiomata and after school events like a mini commonwealth games and an after school skills course. There were also some amazing race results with students competing at the national school champs, the Creek to Peak relay and there were even 11 KC students at the latest round of the Wellington enduro series. Over the holidays we are planning to compete at the Wellington College Sport Championships which consists of a cross country, downhill and criterium. Thanks to all the members and supporters of mountain bike club for a great term and we will keep on riding through the winter. If you are keen to get involved with mountain bike club please Isla.day@kc.school.nz Cycling: On the weekend Camden Feint won the yellow jersey on the central Hawkes Bay junior [CHB] tour for under 17men. This was a two day 4 events tour consisting of a 3.2 hilly time trail followed by a 80km road race. Day 2 was a criterium followed by a 77km road race. Camden gained yellow on stage two by breaking away from the bunch and riding solo for 30km crossing the line 1.25 ahead of the chasing pack. Day two he just needed to stick in the bunch and not let anyone get away in the road race. There were lots of attacks but he chased them all back crossing the lined in the bunch to win. General Information: Casual cleaner We are looking for someone to fill in occasionally when our regular cleaners are on leave or sick. If interested, please Marionne.dixon@kc.school.nz

Staff vs Student Games Round 1 Basketball While most of the country has been sadly waving goodbye to our lovely summer, here at Kāpiti College we have looked on with anticipation and excitement at the beginning of the hotly contested Staff vs Student games of The Staff were near on unbeatable last year and set similar high expectations for their campaign of 2018, while the Students were hoping to learn from their previous cohorts mistakes and come away with the trophy. Our first sport was played on Wednesday and saw the Staff and Students meet on the Basketball court - the traditional home of student sporting dominance here at Kāpiti College. The staff had recruited well over the off season with chief selector Mr Tony Kane bringing in some high quality sporting talent to the staff roster. A quick glance over the student lineup proved initially concerning for the staff as the students looked to have filled their team with genuine basketball players who had skills which did not seem to be present in the staff lineup - namely the ability to pass, shoot and dribble the ball. Riding this wave of confidence the students got away to an early lead by scoring the first couple of baskets, before staff shooting ace Ms. Telfer evened the ledger with a couple of wellconstructed baskets in amongst some heavy traffic under the hoop. What the staff lacked in height they certainly made up for in a strong floor presence - the 5ft 5in (at a stretch) Ms. Cole being case in point. Cole was dominant across the floor, creating havoc on defense before the Students realised that an aerial game was a convenient way to eliminate the defensive threat posed. Leith Maxwell was a regular threat for the student side and led the student attack for the early part of the game. Staff team manager Ms. Fitzmaurice used her bench wisely and rotated on new staff recruits Mr. Williams and Mr. Reti - both of who had spent the last week telling everyone how good they were. Initially they did not live up to their own self hype. Mr. Williams worked hard to get into space and present himself with several scoring opportunities but froze in front of a very pro-student crowd and missed the majority of his early shots. Mr. Reti was quickly covered by the student defence led by Toni Tutemahurangi and Sarah Warren who managed to keep him quiet and allow the scores to remain close up until the midpoint of the game. In what can only be described as a once in a generation miracle, the staff team found a second wind and appeared to be the fitter of the two teams in the later stages of the game. This (along with Mr. Williams realising that points are scored by putting the ball through the hoop) allowed the staff to begin to build a sizeable lead over the students. Toni Tutemahurangi attempted to keep the students in the game by showing extreme confidence from the 3 point line, however her success rate is probably not worth mentioning. Ms. Telfer, Mr. Rennie and Mr. Reti all managed to score regular points in close, while Mr. Williams began to sink a couple of 3 pointers (completing 3 from 67 attempts by games end) to really seal the staff win. The staff came away with a win in the end. Student team captain Robert Gulley was gracious in the face of a significant loss and is looking forward to the next match on the Netball court in Term 2. Thank you to the referees and the supporters who came along as well. Would your child benefit from some extra help in Maths and Science these sessions are for all year levels and courses and are FREE. Maths M6 every Thursday after school from pm. Science - B13 every Thursday 3:20-5:00. Stay as short a time as you like. All Year levels (9-13) dealt with as there are specialists from all 3 areas (Biology, Chemistry, Physics). 5 Defence Force Visit: A number of our students have expressed an interest in Defence Careers/Aviation/Aviation Engineering as a career choice. Our Careers Department were lucky enough to have secured a visit by the Defence Force Careers Advisors who arrived in style today on the back field at the College. They were welcomed by a College haka and then those interested were able to ask questions and were able to get up close to the helicopter. Great job Izzy and Mel for organising this event. These will again be available through the College or online. Funds will be going towards the Performing Arts Centre if you purchase prior to 3 April, there are additional early bird offers available (subject to availability). Into town by 10am and not home until after 10pm. It started with a flash mob in Piazza dei Signori and ended with the major performance of the festival at Santa Maria Della Scala. The flash mob was magical with the voices bouncing off the walls of the piazza. Afterwards Peyton with the assistance of Lily R taught the French choir Ko Kapiti. They then did the cup song together and the two choirs sang over each other, forming a circle with the other choir in the middle. The connection between the two choirs was really special, and some new friendships were made. We were so proud of how our group led and interacted with the other choir, overcoming language barriers and sharing our culture in this wonderful place. After some more sightseeing we gathered for the rehearsal and performance. We enjoyed watching the other choirs as much as performing our own songs. The choir performed outstandingly and stood proudly alongside some inspiring choirs from Italy, Portugal, Turkey, France and the Isle D'Azure. The singing has been so uplifting and inspiring for our singers. You could hear their sound opening up even over the course of the past few days. It finished with a group performance of over 200 people standing in a circle around the audience. What an extraordinary sound!

We finished with a dinner where we all joined together and shared songs from the different nations. Drew did a great job leading a room full of people from all over Europe joining us in Ko Kapiti. Looking forward to Rome! KC Shakespeare Day: Shakespeare day once again has brought the drama department together and inspired for another year at Kapiti College. We started the day by teaming up for a glorious six hours of Shakespearean competition. First we collected into our Kingdoms then put our Shakespeare trivia to the test. Then we proceeded to show off our amazing Shakespearean fashion sense, and prizes were given to those who looked utterly inspiring and truly to the time. We were then inspired with a fantastic performance of Romeo and Juliet by the Ugly Shakespeare Company, to which we laughed, and gasped, and laughed again. We the put our bodies to the test with Shakespearean style dancing, impromptu acting and tourney conflict. Next, we re-lived the yearly tradition of newspaper fashion, complete with a catwalk. Then commenced our shared feast, to which the leading Kingdom got first pick. Finally, we got show each other our own passions for Shakespeare by performing Shakespeare pieces brewing for the Sheilah Winn Shakespeare competition. As always it was an amazing day and I m thankful to all the people who keep it running Caitlin Proctor and Vicky Preston

The 18 scenes ranged widely; Kāpiti entered five pieces this year, and we're very proud of all outstanding students, we ve got a lot of very imaginative and talented young thespians. Kāpiti picked up 3 awards: Ella Flowers who won An Outstanding Performance in a Supporting Role. Hunter Meek won Outstanding Young Performer. And Romeo and Juliet, directed by Rachel Clarke, won an award for Outstanding Elements in Performance Congratulations to all our performers and directors a very enjoyable experience and successful night for all. Ben Cotton and Ellen Cunningham Shakespeare Regional Festival On Saturday 7th April, around 150 keen young players packed onto Paraparaumu College Hall laden with costume props and set ready to take the stage after months of preparation. Hunter Meek Students from Kāpiti, Paraparaumu, Aotea, Tawa and Horowhenua Colleges represented Shakespeare in all his temperaments, from tragic intrigue to comedy and romance, entertaining an appreciative crowd.

Comedians In the making: Congratulations to: - Winnie Van'thof Pacheco Hunter Meek, Bethany Craigen Ella Flowers Mak Foster who attended the Class Comedians show and workshop and have now been selected to attend a week long workshop being tutored by professional comedians Helena Bowater KPAC Fundraiser push: The Kapiti Performing Arts Centre has been chosen for the Warehouse's 'Bags for Good' fund raising project. When you shop at the Paraparaumu Warehouse store grab a token at the checkout and place in the voting unit to say you are supporting the Kapiti Performing Arts Centre. At the end of July, funds raised are given to each of the store community partners according to their percentage of total votes. Pretty cool. Thanks to the Warehouse for your support. Please support the College in their endeavours to complete this project successfully. Every little bit helps.
