2 Warrior Way -Jer 13 Reasons Why Book Review Cindel Parker Clay Jensen comes home one day to find a box of cassette tapes on his porch. The box is addressed from Hannah Baker, a classmate of Clay s and his crush. Sadly, Hannah had committed suicide two weeks prior. On these tapes are the thirteen reasons why Hannah ended her life. On the first tape, Hannah says that she holds certain classmates responsible for her death. She has instructions for the person listening; once the person has listened to the tapes, they must send it to the next person on the list and if they fail to do so the tapes will be released publically. Throughout the story it moves between Clay s and Hannah s points of view. Later in the book the reader discovers the reasons for Hannah s suicide. 13 Reasons Why kept me on the edge of my seat. This story takes you through Hannah s misfortune and how she felt and how she was treated by others. Jay Asher keeps you turning page after page. I recommend this book to everyone; it is an amazing story and well written. READERS POLL JACE STAFFORD WHAT WOULD YOU DO WITH A MILLION DOLLARS? I would buy a new dog and a house, and give the rest to charity. - Jeromiah A Lamborghini - Jesse I would buy food, water, and lots of dogs. -Quinby I would help people who are in need -Halee I would spend it all on myself - Morgan The first thing I would do is create my own enterprise entitled Prestige Worldwide. That s going to cost me about $130,000. Then I m going to buy Alex a new truck. I ll probably keep my truck. I would buy Dawson new rims and tires, and getting my homie cuz a new record deal. Then I m going to buy Orion a new exhaust system. That s what I would buy with a million dollars. -Tyler

3 Warrior Way Hammon Warriors The Hammon Warrior Boys Basketball team did a tremendous job this year. In the beginning, it started out a little bit rocky, but towards the middle of the season everyone was in tune with each other and worked as a team. The Warriors fought passed Districts to get to the Cache Area Consolation Finals against Tipton. The Warriors played a great game against Tipton, but Tipton prevailed to be the Area Consolation Champions. With that loss, the Hammon Warriors season was done. The Lady Warriors came out strong in the beginning of the season, but Lady Warriors couldn t keep that momentum towards the end of the season; therefore, the lady Warriors finished with a record of The Lady Warriors played a great game against the Granite Lady Panthers, but they came up short in the deciding game.

4 Warrior Way FFA Competitions Hammon FFA Reporter, Easton Travis The Hammon FFA Chapter and 4-H club have been very busy over the last couple of months. Things started at the Roger Mills livestock show on February We are proud to say that every Hammon student received first place in their class, and we had many Champions and Reserves. Of these, we had 5 exhibitors who qualified for the Premium Sale. The students who participated are Easton Travis, Dacey Meadows, Kendyll Harris, Laurian Sorenson, Jaylynn Lamb, and Shannon Ayers. From there, we participated in the Woodward District Livestock Show. Highlights from Woodward include Kendyll Harris and Easton Travis qualifying for the Premium Sale. This is a big accomplishment, which required lots of hard work and dedication on their behalf. The competition at the District Livestock Show was incredibly intense this year. Despite this, all of the exhibitors from Hammon placed in their classes, which is a big accomplishment. These exhibitors include Easton Travis, Dacey Meadows, Kendyll Harris, Jaylynn Lamb, and Shannon Ayers. We spent our spring break in Oklahoma City at the Fair Grounds for the Oklahoma Youth Expo (OYE). Exhibitors who competed at OYE are Easton Travis, Kendyll Harris, Jaylynn Lamb, and Shannon Ayers. Highlights include Easton Travis 6 th place Hampshire Barrow, and Kendyll Harris Hampshire Barrow which placed in the top 10 in her class. The events coming up for the Hammon FFA Chapter include Judging Contests, Quiz Bowl contests, State FFA Convention, and our FFA Banquet. Bible Study Bible study has been going great! We have had some really good lessons lately. We heard from Lexi, Libby, Martina, Devin, Abby, and Chelsea. Some of the topics we have discussed are God s plan, defeating the enemy, the Lord s Prayer, your identity in Christ, the necessity of being urgent about our faith, and forgiveness. Also, we have donated some money to the Water Is Life organization, an Oklahoma-based company that provides filtered drinking straws and filtered buckets to supply clean drinking water to third world countries. They also share about the True Living Water of Christ when they deliver the straws and buckets. We are filled with joy knowing that we can make a difference in people s lives around the world. We are ready to finish out this school year strong with God on our side. SWIM Congratulations to Cindel Parker and Devin Scott on tying for 1 st place in HTML and Web Design at Southwestern Oklahoma State University s Interscholastic Meet in Weatherford. Six students also placed in the top ten in their subject; Kenny Bass in Anatomy and Physiology; Karli Carpenter in Spanish I and American History, Libby Unruh in Spanish II, Alison and Emily Moore in Algebra I, and Abbey Morton in Chemistry.

7 Warrior Way Bridge to Kindergarten and Kindergarten News Things have been pretty exciting since we ve returned from Spring Break. We are working super hard to get ready for next year. Our senior mentors have visited our classrooms a couple of times and we have really enjoyed it. One day they left us all encouraging notes that made our day. The last semester we will begin science units on Fridays, starting with a magnetic unit. The students shared their magnetic bottles with the older students and enjoyed getting to tell them what they learned. We are really looking forward to our field trip in April. Head Start Applications Hammon Head Start will be taking applications for school year on April 10, If your child or you know of a child that will be turning 3 or 4 by September 1, please bring the following to make an application for next year. Birth Certificate Proof of income for the last 12 months Updated immunization record Social Security card for applicant/& family member Insurance card If you have any questions, please feel free to call the Head Start office at or Tamara Hodge s cell phone at

8 Warrior Way We ve really been enjoying the nice, warm weather. We all enjoyed our Spring Break. Some of us traveled to far- away places, and some of us stayed in Hammon and enjoyed playing with our family and friends. It s hard to believe that we only have a few weeks of first grade left. We ve become great readers and have been practicing every day. A few weeks ago we enjoyed learning all about polygons in math. We even got to create our own polygons out of straws. We want to thank all of the parents helping with our Easter Party. We always have such a great time at our parties thanks to our parents. First Grade News

9 Warrior Way 3 rd Grade News I hope everyone had a relaxing Spring Break. The third grade has been test prepping because it is that time of the year again. Our Reading Test will be April 14 th, and our Math Test will be April 16 th. Please make sure you are looking over the materials I have been sending home. I am proud of how hard they have been working in the classroom to prepare themselves for the State Test. In addition, the third grade was excited about their spring break, here are some of their favorite activities they did: Jalie-I went to the Saint Patrick s parade, and rode the fire truck. Shannon-I showed a pig at the FFA show. Lexee-I went to visit the Bombing Memorial site in OKC. Linsey, Jakira, Ethan -I went to the water zoo park. Allysia-I played softball with my dad and visited my grandma. Kate- I competed in a motorcycle race, and got 2nd place. Jaycen-I went and stayed the night with an old friend. Angelica-I went shopping with my mom. Dereiana-I went to Mexico City to visit family. 4 th Grade News Grace-I went to Colorado to visit family. Bryler-I watched television, and played X-Box 2. Conor-I got a new shirt from my dad s car club. Taytum-I went to Arizona and saw the Grand Canyon. Edwin-I played X-Box One all day. Kadence-I went to see the movie Cinderella and the zoo. Jeremiah- I went to visit family out in the country and explored their land. Phoenix-I went to visit family and stayed up all night, and played Play Station 3. Justin-I watched television all day, and went to Elk City. The 4th graders have been working very hard to prepare for their OCCT in April. Our state reading test is April 14th and our math is April 16th. Test prep isn t the most exciting thing for them, but they work hard to earn a brain break. Most of our breaks are a short dance session, where the kids follow fun dance moves on the smart board from some of their favorite songs. Almost all of them have been brave enough to try it and some have become professionals! Some of the girls have also been very busy on their traveling basketball team and even had the chance to play in the state tournament! We have also celebrated several birthdays in March. Once testing is over, I know the kids will be excited to start working on some science experiments and eventually take a field trip!

10 Warrior Way Fifth Grade News Wow! This year has gone by so fast! January and February are a little slow after Christmas, and then March is just gone. We have been busy trying to get everything done before test time. We start our first State Test April 9 th. We had a very nice Valentine s party. We ended up with lots of goodies and cards. We enjoyed our gifts that the FCCLA students made. They did a really nice job putting things together. The students that met their Accelerated Reader goals got to spend the morning with Mrs. Goodall and her students. They had a great morning creating a new animal from four animals. They had to choose a trait from each animal and decide what biome it would be able to survive in. They got to design their animals and the biomes with all sorts of materials. They did an amazing job and had such a good time doing it. We would like to thank Mrs. Goodall and her students for making it such a great day. The students also got to go to the park with the third and fourth grade to have pizza and ice cream. The students were Jolie, Jaxon, Kaylee, Tiela, Lathan, and Alex. We are very proud of the hard work that these students put in to achieve their goals. We had two students chosen as Star STEM Students at STARBASE this year. Jolie and Alex were chosen by their instructors for this award and were honored at a banquet at the Western Technology Center in Burn Flat. They had a very nice evening with family and friends. They especially liked their trophies and plaques. We are very proud of both of them! The Cheyenne Language students got to go on a field trip with Mrs. Whiteskunk to Roman Nose State Park. They had really good time! We are sure looking forward to our field trips coming up. It s not long before summer break, and we are sure looking forward to that!
