July 3 - August 11 of every year is considered the Dog Days of Summer. This is usually the muggiest and hottest part of the summer. For that reason many people believe that the dog days of summer derived its name because it is the time of year when dogs tend to be lazy, pant more and even become ill-tempered from the heat. That is a good theory but in reality, the name comes from the occurrence of the star, Page 1 Fall BBQ July, August, September 2007 Sirius, meaning Dog Star. Sirius is the brightest star seen from Earth, besides the Sun and is visible throughout the summer months. Either way, the Dog Days of Summer are just plain HOT!! Don t let the heat slow you down this summer. Grab a nice glass of iced tea and head to the Senior Center. We have lots of fun events, trips, and educational programs planned to keep you busy and cool all summer long! Summer is winding down. The grandkids are all back in school and we are heating up the grill just for you.
