Don t forget to invite and/or bring your antique/classic vehicle friend(s) with you for a fun evening! See ya Tuesday for some great food, fun, and fellowship! Message from the President I hope you are all doing well and I'm sure the pretty weather makes us all feel better. We will soon be entering our busy time of the year. This begins with the Myrtle Beach Show next week and I hope many of you can attend. There were several of us who attended the Greensboro Auto Auction this past week and it was enjoyable. As far as I know, we all came home empty-handed. Ruth Ann is working on the Car Show for the Purple Heart Foundation which will be held on April 23, 2016 at the Main Street Methodist Church from 12:00 Noon to 4:00 PM. Hopefully, we will have a strong attendance and participation in helping Ruth Ann and our Purple Heart recipients. It should be nice and warm for our meeting next Tuesday and we will be on Daylight Savings Time--don't forget to change your clocks! I look forward to seeing all of you. 3 "Welcome" to our New Members Esther and Joe Marion *************************************************************************************** Old Salem Chapter AACA 2016 Officers Left to Right: Roger Hockaday, Ex-Officio; Duke Marley, Alternate Chaplain; Ruth Ann Ronchetti, Activities Director; David Hawks, Secretary; Jim Hilton, Vice President; Ron Day, President; John Ronchetti, Newsletter Editor/Cruise-In Treasurer. Absent from picture: Brenda Hockaday, Treasurer and Jim Taylor, Chaplain. *************************************************************************************** A GREAT Opportunity for our Old Salem Chapter! Ruth Ann Ronchetti, Activities Our OSC was contacted by the NW Piedmont Purple Heart Foundation, Inc., through our member Jimmy Hailey who was on the board, a few months ago to possibly partner with our club to put on a Benefit Car Show for the Foundation and its Purple Heart Recipients. With our membership feeling that this was definitely a worthy cause, planning moved forward. Following, on the flyer, you will see what has been planned and what will be taking place the day of the event. This is a joint effort with the Purple Heart Foundation so we will be sharing duties with them. Mostly what will be asked of our OSC is to BE THERE WITH YOUR CARS ($10 donation / car) to support the event and WE NEED BAKED GOODS... both to sell in $1.00 portions and HOMEMADE CAKES FOR AN AUCTION... Jim Quick will be our "honorary auctioneer"... he does it so well : ))! We will also need some parking people, Registration table volunteers, and Door Prizes... gather up what you can, car items mostly are good. I also have raffle tickets for sale on beautiful Goin Home print, framed by our Jim Quick $1 each / 6 for $5. This raffle will also be sold the day of the event. WE ARE HOPING FOR THIS TO BE AN OUTSTANDING EVENT and to raise lots of money for these very deserving Purple Heart Recipients. Thank you all so much for your help and support! 3

5 Look What's Coming Up! Ruth Ann Ronchetti, Activities Get ready to crank those cars! We are getting started, folks! First on the list is the "Run to the Sun" BIG Car Show in Myrtle Beach coming up on March 17th-19th. For those of you that have never been there, THIS SHOW IS AMAZING... YOU WON'T BELIEVE ALL THE CARS YOU WILL SEE... from Rat Rods to the very pristine! Last year there was around 4,000 cars! If you haven't pre-registered, no problem, you can still register when you get there. The Registration Form follows for your convenience. Saturday, March 19th, is the Welcome Easter Parade which I have sent in the pre-registration for y'all to attend, if you like. The line-up will be from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, turning right at the church on the corner of Old Hwy. 52 & Critcher Drive. The parade will start at 3:00 pm going past North Davidson High School. In the event of rain, the parade will be held on Sunday, March 20th, line-up at 1:30 to 2:00 pm and the parade starting at 3:30 pm. (Blue Line-Up form following will need to be taken with you when you go to the parade.) Also on Saturday, March 19th, is Petty's Garage Cruise-In at 311 Branson Mill Rd., Randleman, from 9:00 am to Noon. Free tours of Petty's Garage and the Museum. Our club has been there a while back so for you newbies, this is a great opportunity for you that have never been there before! You may want consider it. On Saturday, April 2nd, we will have an OSC Outing to see two great car collections, one will be our member's and the other a friend of one of our members with lunch in between. We will meet at 9:00 am in the parking lot behind Burger King at the Union Cross Shopping Ctr, 1551 Union Cross Rd., Kville. This should be a fun day.. and of course, drive your Classics, weather permitting! Tuesday, April 5th, is our club's 2nd Annual Krispy Kreme / Victory Junction Fundraising Event on Stratford Road to display our OSC cars. We had a blast last year and they invited us to participate again this year... yeah! They have requested a maximum of 30 cars to fill up the parking area and we will be "rewarded" with Jimmy Johns and Krispy Kremes... yum... and entertainment by our own Danny "Elvis" Crouse! They are asking that we get there by 3:30 pm to get our cars in place. Sooo... please plan to attend! They love having our beautiful old cars displayed and it is a very worthy fundraising cause to help Victory Junction Gang Camp raise money for those very deserving kids! Last year, we were told that over $2,500 was raised during the day we were there and that is the amount needed to send one kid to camp... awesome! Hope you can make it! On April 16th, our NC Region will be having a Region Cruise-In in Hillsborough and all AACA Chapters are encouraged to attend. For those wanting to participate, we can meet at a location in Kernersville TBD and cruise on down the road together. As I find out more info on it, I will pass it on. FYI... The Hwy. 55 Burgers Shakes & Fries Cruise-In previously scheduled for the April 18th has been cancelled due to the Shopping Center Management not giving permission, unfortunately. 5
6 Good Stuff by Jim Hilton Most of you know I ve been restoring my 1966 Fastback Mustang for the past couple of years. When I lived in Colorado I did three ground up restorations of a 1966 Big Block Corvette, a Convertible Corvette (in Australia now) and a 1969 Corvette RestoRod. So I ve seen a lot of hardware from electronic fuel injection to roller cams to fiber glassing. However, recently I ran across a carburetor that is amazing. My Mustang s 302 V8 stumbled badly from 1 mph to 20 and it took 5 minutes or so to warm-up. My new recently purchased Holley 4160 s secondary s appeared to be opening too soon creating the stumble according to Holley. But I ve had many Holley 4150s and 60s without any issues once you get the jets right and set the fuel idle mixture. Mine never worked. I replaced the Holley 4160 with the new Street Demon Carburetor. Oddly enough it is a Holley but of a totally different design ( From what I know it looks like the metering system was used from the Carter AFB and it works great. For more technical data check out the above link. The main reasons why it s such a nice piece of equipment: it was easy to install; fired right away; ran well when cold like at zero on the gauge; no stumble; idled fine and the secondary s when they kick in are not requiring me to install the kick-down on my C4 automatic transmission it s fast I get yelled at you know what I m talk in about. Anyway, I thought the club members might want to know about this carburetor, since we re all running them. *************************************************************************************** AACA Membership Roster By Steve Moskowitz, Executive Director "The AACA Membership roster is now online! You can go to and sign in to either the Meets & Tours section or go to Members Info to access the information. Both of these areas require your membership number and pin number. You can use the online roster in a number of ways. The search feature allows you to find members by last name, city or state. You cannot print out an entire roster. We have chosen to start out this way and put a high degree of security into the site. The methodology we have used will thwart people from using the roster in inappropriate ways. We also do not include phone numbers or addresses for the same reasons and to protect personal data of our members. While many have expressed an interest in having a roster listing cars, etc., we have heard the majority still do not want that type of information available online. So at this time we will keep the roster information minimal and containing the exact same information as our previous printed rosters contained. Remember the AACA roster is not available for any commercial purposes and is copyrighted by the Antique Automobile Club of America. It is available for our regions, chapters and members only." 6
7 Coker Tire Earns Inaugural Antique Automobile Club of America Supplier Award Kurt Ernst, Feb 18th, 2016, Hemmings Daily News The AACA s Michael J. Jones (L) with Coker Tire s Wade Kawasaki. Images courtesy Coker Tire. On Saturday, February 13, the Antique Automobile Club of America held its 80th annual national awards banquet in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Described as the Academy Awards of the antique car trade, the black tie gala has traditionally honored AACA members and their vehicles, but the 2016 awards introduced a new trophy for suppliers, and the inaugural recipient was Coker Tire of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Founded by Harold Coker in Athens, Tennessee, in 1958, Coker Tire carved out a market niche by providing tires and wheels to the collector car market. Business grew rapidly, and in 1961 the company relocated to its current hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Under Harold s leadership, Coker Tire went on to become the world s largest supplier of collector car tires and wheels, and though he retired in 2004, Harold remained active in the company s affairs until his death in November of Today, Coker Tire is led by company president and chief operating officer Wade Kawasaki and chief executive officer Corky Coker. The Automotive Supplier Award was created in 2015 by the Hornets Nest Region in Charlotte, North Carolina, to honor vintage Ford parts supplier Dennis Carpenter. The text on the trophy reads, Presented to a supplier or merchant of automotive restoration parts or components which uphold the originality of vehicles as they were delivered from the dealer. Established in 2015 by the Hornets Nest Region, Charlotte, North Carolina, to honor Dennis Carpenter, an innovator in providing original reproduction equipment Ford parts. Steve Moskowitz, executive director of the AACA, said of the award. The Antique Car Club of America is proud to have selected Coker Tire as our first ever recipient of the Automotive Supplier Award. Our board could not think of a more worthy firm as the name Coker Tire comes immediately to mind when talking about the vast history of the hobby. Without the production of these specialty tires our hobby would not exist and we are grateful to the Coker family for their storied dedication to the hobby and to AACA. We are very proud to have had Harold Coker as our 1972 National President. Wade Kawasaki was on hand to accept the award, presented by Michael J. Jones, AACA director and chairman of the national awards banquet. Editor's Note: Harold Coker, founder of Coker Tire, was the brother of Bob Coker who lives in Winston- Salem and was a member of our Old Salem Chapter AACA for a number of years. 7
