1 Wayne Music Club P.O. Box Huber Heights, OH Volume 17, Issue 9 The monthly newsletter of the Wayne Music Club MISSIO N ST AT EMENT CHECK OUT THE WEBSITE FOR MORE INFO The Wayne Music Club is a non-profit volunteer organization established to support the Wayne High School Band Programs. Our mission is to ensure that students are given the opportunity to experience the enrichment that music and the arts bring to themselves and to their community. We will accomplish this goal by instilling good work ethics and sound financial management in support of the program directors, staff and students. Our primary objective is to provide a positive influence in the growth of our students so that they may achieve their highest potential. THE N E XT REG U L AR WMC CLU B MEET IN G IS S E PT 12 TH U RSDAY AT 7:30 IN T H E BAN D ROOM! Notes from the Band Room Kirsten Showers, Band Director kshowers@wayneband.org Susan Chambers, Assistant Band Director schambers@wayneband.,org Important travel schedule and season information in this end of the issue Halftime USA...WOW!!!!!!! Sharon Emerson - excellent job! Thanks so much to the Halftime USA committee for everything you did and all the time you gave to make sure this event was a success. Sharon was so extremely organized and I truly appreciate her attention to detail. Thanks so much!!! Thank you to Michele Madurski for organizing the dinner for the OU band. They enjoyed it. Thanks to Chris Zimmick for basically just being present that evening and doing whatever I needed done at that particular moment. You really helped us out! One more thank you, not just for this event but for MANY...Beth Ann Hill and Kristi Mach for all the time and energy you give to the concession stands. We know it's hard work and it does NOT go unnoticed. We love you!!!!! Students - awesome job Saturday night. I was so proud to watch you take the field and execute the way you did. Hard work pays off, doesn't it? A travel schedule was sent home with your children. It was on yellow paper. Please change the October 17th Circleville Pumpkin Parade to October 16th. Times remain the same but we switched to the Wednesday night parade instead. It will be a very late night but students are expected to be at school the following day. If we have attendance issues on the 17th, we will no be able to do that parade anymore (and it is the students' favorite parade!). Blue sheets come out each week. Please ask your child for it. I try to get it to the website as well and many people have started posting it on Facebook. Just make sure you're looking at the correct week's sheet. Eligibility sheets start next Wednesday. Review the handbook for guidelines. Let's keep everyone's grades up and keep those kids on the field. Upcoming dates (not including football) 9/28 Tipp city Mum Festival Parade (AM) 9/28 Little Miami Band Festival (similar to Halftime USA) (PM) 10/12 Boys senior soccer night (band needs to participate...more of a pep band setting 10/16 Circleville Pumpkin Show Parade 10/19 Kenton Ridge Band Festival Bingo Cleanings: September 7th, September 28th October 5th, October 12th, October 19th November 23rd December 7th Keep up the great work! me if you have any questions.

2 GETTING TWEETS THROUGH TEXT to FROM THE PRESIDENT: Kristi Mach Hello everyone! I would just like to thank all the great people who have come out and helped starting with band camp through this double header weekend we just had. It takes so many hands to make this work, and we are so glad to have many awesome parents giving their time to make the kids experience so great!!!! Make sure you are watching your s or if you have joined the Facebook page for announcements about concessions and other things we have going on. The season has only started, we will have more events and we will be looking to parents and family to help out with to make this season a huge success!!! EVENT COORDINATOR Chriss Petersen chrisspetersen@wayneband.org We are getting into that really busy time of the year...marching Season! Please watch your s for important information about games, snacks, and concession stand help. We are running the Grill and Main Concessions for the football games and opening the Main Concession for soccer games. I take whomever s me back first when compiling the volunteer lists and position you are working so back quickly if you want a specific job. Thank you for everyone that has volunteered already and for anyone that is going to be volunteering on upcoming events. We need everyone's help to make it successful for our kids. Here is to a great season! $STUDENT ACCOUNTS$: Gretchen Prine gprine@wayneband.org Half-Time USA was so good! Thank you Sharon Emerson for doing a great job! And thank you to everyone who worked so hard helping! I had to add some Marching Band fees to some of the students and I had to take away some fees for some students. I will try to get an out in the next week informing those involved. If you need to know your acct. balance, please me. UNIFORMS Chris Zimmick czimmick@wayneband.org You all look FANTASTIC in those clean and fresh smelling uniforms!!! Well, they used to be fresh smelling. I m sure you ve all learned just how hot and sweaty they can get, so don t forget to AIR THEM OUT after games. Your nose, and the noses of others around you, will be thankful you did. Many items were borrowed for the first game and for Halftime USA. Items borrowed must be washed and returned ASAP. We are limited on items to be loaned out and if you don t bring items back I may not be able to help you next time. Forgotten gloves and socks are NOT borrowed items if you need them, you bought them. The price for said items, gloves $4 and socks $2, will be added to the student accounts. Please do your best to remember all uniform parts. CONCESSIONS Beth Ann Hill bhill@wayneband.org A big THANK YOU to all the fantastic volunteers that have been helping out in concessions...especially for our back-toback weekend events! I also appreciate everyone's patience as I continue to make adjustments that I hope will make it easier to track our products, run smoothly during the events, and be profitable (to benefit for your Marching Band and Warriorettes). Please continue to watch for opportunities to volunteer at concessions. In addition to the home varsity football games, we are also providing a very limited menu for home JV/ freshman football games and both boys and girls home JV/ varsity soccer games. I would also like to extend an invitation for anyone that is interested in helping our awesome President, Kristi Mach, and Vice-President, Tracy Hall, sort and stock incoming Coke product orders on Friday late mornings or early afternoons. The last two Coke orders were very large (in the neighborhood of 200 cases), which is a tremendous amount to move around! Please let them know if this is something you would like to help with. Concession Reminder: ball caps/hats (or hairnets) are required to be worn by all volunteers in the Grill and visitor concession stands, and by those volunteers in the food prep area of the Main concession stand. I have a limited number of ball caps available for you to borrow during your shift, but feel free to being your own :). Please also wear closed-toe shoes (for your safety) and shirts with short sleeves (no sleeveless shirts) to comply with health regulations. Thanks!

3 WARRIORETTE NEWS.. Kelli Soukup, Advisor Becky Warner, Co-Advisor Celeste Stephens, I want to thank the Halftime USA committee for such an amazing evening! Your hard work paid off. It was one of my personal favorites! We can t do anything without our amazing parents. So many others have helped at band camp, chaperoning, braiding hair, and will do so much more this season. Thank you! You are such a great group of people to work with. REMINDERS: Weekly Eligibility Sheets EIigibility sheets begin after three weeks into the school year. It is important that you think about your grades now and not in two weeks. You must have your sheet signed by every teacher each Wednesday and turned in to Miss Warner the beginning of practice on Wednesdays. If you are ineligible, you must still attend the event in uniform. Attendance If, for any reason, that is not preapproved, you miss a Wednesday or Thursday practice, you will not perform that weekend. This includes leaving early. If you are planning on missing a Saturday performance, you will be taken out of the Friday night show as well. If you miss a weekend event without approval, you will sit out for 2 weeks. Also, Tuesday rehearsals are mandatory as well. This isn t your free night to skip. We are almost always learning new charts, arms, or dances for feature at each practice. Be there. 145 people are counting on you. PARENTS, WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT IN THIS AREA. Tardies on Friday Nights Hose You will lose your 3 rd quarter privileges if you are late on Friday night games. This is already in the handbook. If you miss the run-thru of pregame, you sit out. Same with the halftime show. Please do not forget that you provide your own hose for the uniform. Hose must be sheer to waist. Call if you have questions. A popular brand is No Nonsense. Please match to your skin. Nail polish/ Earrings We had an issue with nail polish and earrings at the first performance after band camp. There are no exceptions Don t wear it. You cannot use bandaids to cover piercings. They must be taken out. Uniform Care HAND wash in cold water and Woolite. You will ruin the fabric and sequins if you put the uniform in the washer, even on gentle cycle. You will then purchase the uniform: $240. Lay flat to dry. Do not hang the uniform up because the skirt will get too heavy and stretch out the rest of the uniform as it dries. Call with questions. Challenges Challenges occur on Wednesdays. However, girls can be cut from a show at any time for the following: choreography Splits memory issues with the kicks are not head high multiple mistakes. Encourage your daughters to stretch at home, show you her splits/kicks, and go over choreography. Keep working and stretching! Stay on top of your schoolwork. Encourage each other to keep a positive attitude!
