1 Fourth Grade Summer Reading Program Neabsco Elementary The purpose of the PWCS Summer Reading Program is to encourage students to enjoy quality literature and to continue developing their independent reading skills. Student participation in the program is voluntary. Students who choose to participate in the program are required to complete a minimum of three books. Students in Fourth Grade who participate will complete a list of books read. The documentation is to include the name of the, the title of the book, and a parent or guardian statement that the student has completed the reading. For Fourth Grade students who participate in Prince William County Public Library's Summer Reading Program, the Public Library documentation will apply. Students will receive an extra A (100) for each book completed, for a total of three. The summer reading documentation will be submitted by the student by the end of the first week of school. The following titles are suggestions for summer reading. Other books selected by the student with guidance from a parent/guardian and/or librarian may be used. If that weren t strange enough, the puppet is uncannily wise and prescient. Origami Yoda predicts the date of a pop quiz, guesses who stole the classroom Shakespeare bust, and saves a classmate from popularity-crushing embarrassment with some well-timed advice. Dwight s classmate Tommy wonders how Yoda can be so smart when Dwight himself is so clueless. With contributions from his puzzled classmates, he assembles the case file that forms this novel Ivan is an easygoing gorilla. Living at the Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Video Arcade, he has grown accustomed to humans watching him through the glass walls of his domain. He rarely misses his life in the jungle. In fact, he hardly ever thinks about it at all. Instead, Ivan thinks about TV shows he's seen and about his friends Stella, an elderly elephant, and Bob, a stray dog. But mostly Ivan thinks about art and how to capture the taste of a mango or the Page 2 of 7

3 sound of leaves with color and a well-placed line. Then he meets Ruby, a baby elephant taken from her family, and she makes Ivan see their home and his own art through new eyes. When Ruby arrives, change comes with her, and it's up to Ivan to make it a change for the better Baker, E.D Frog Princess 2007 Princess Emerelda is not exactly an ideal princess. Her laugh is like a foghorn, she's always tripping over the royal furniture, and she HATES Prince Jorge whom her mother would one day like to see her marry. But things are about to change as she finds the frog of her dreams - but when she kisses him SHE turns into a frog! Just one kiss, and her whole life turns upside down in these deliciously original, hilarious and fast-paced fairy-tale adventures. Dragon's Breath and Once Upon a Curse continue Princess Emma's adventures with a wonderful cast of characters and new challenges such as the Dragon Olympics, and trying to stop a terrible curse. Christopher, Matt Any book from this Catching Waves 2006 Fourteen-year-old Kai Ford, a good surfer who respects the power of the sea, unfortunately does not always have the same respect for the privacy of other people. Dahl, Roald Any book from this The BFG 2007 Kidsnatched from her orphanage by a BFG (Big Friendly Giant), who spends his life blowing happy dreams to children, Sophie concocts with him a plan to save the world from nine other man-gobbling cannybull giants. DeCamillo, Kate Flora and Ulysses 2013 It begins, as the best superhero stories do, with a tragic accident that has unexpected consequences. The squirrel never saw the vacuum cleaner coming, but self-described cynic Flora Belle Buckman, who has read every issue of the comic book Terrible Things Can Happen to You!, is the just the right person to step in and save him. 4 that Ulysses (the squirrel) has been born anew, with powers of strength, flight, and misspelled poetry and that Flora will be changed too, as she discovers the possibility of hope and the promise of a capacious heart. DiTerlizzi, Tony Kenny and the Dragon 2012 Kenny is a little rabbit with a very big problem. His two best friends are heading into a battle of legendary proportions with each other! In one corner there s Graeme, a well-read and cultured dragon with sophisticated tastes. In the other there s George, a retired knight and dragon slayer who would be content to spend the rest of his days in his bookshop. Neither really wants to fight, but the village townsfolk are set on removing Graeme from their midst and calling George out of retirement. Can Kenny avert disaster? Davies, Jacqueline Feldman, Jody Lemonade War Series 2007 Evan Treski and his younger sister, Jessie, get along well in many ways. Jessie is a whiz in math and other school subjects, but feelings were her weakest subject. Evan is competent in the social arena, but he is not such a good student. Their relationship changes the summer between Evan's third and fourth grades, when a letter arrives announcing what the boy sees as total disaster for him. He and his bright, skipping-third-grade sister will be in the same class. Thus begins the Lemonade War over which child can make the most money during the last week before school. The Gollywhopper Games 2008 Ladies and gentlemen! Boys and girls! Welcome to the biggest, bravest, boldest competition the world has ever seen! The Gollywhopper Games! Are you ready? Gil Goodson sure hopes he's ready. His future happiness depends on winning the Golly Toy & Game Company's ultimate competition. If Gil wins, his dad has promised the family can move out of Orchard Heights away from all the gossip, the false friends, and bad press that have plagued the Goodsons ever since The Incident.
