2 BARRY S WORLD Thank you HOG volunteers and Black Sheep for helping out at our Spring Kick Start Party it was a great party with lots of fun stuff to do. Sarah did a great job too! The KOOL Kruze was a blast and so glad our HOG Chapter took part even in the time trials at Alaska Raceway Park. The following Sunday at Alaska Raceway Park Billy Farber took second place on our V-Rod Destroyer Otto broke but is ready for the next round, and Johny Jones got eliminated by Billy all three are on the HOH drag race team.. RACING IS FUN hope to see more of you out there supporting the sport. We will do the Live Ride for MDA similar to how the KOOL Kruze was done. We will start with a bike show in the Sears Mall parking lot with a ride to Alaska Raceway Park. Probable events there will include a BBQ lunch, Parade of Heroes, drawing for the new Harley Sportster, time trial racing, a burnout competition, entertainment, beer lounge, prizes and more. Come by the House and get a book of tickets to sell to your family and friends and get in on the party and help in the support of our MDA families here in Alaska. If you don t want to sell tickets, you can buy six for $100 which will get you a pass to the Live Ride for MDA. Single tickets are $20. Congratulations Peppermint Patti on your retirement! I hope many of you can make it to Si s annual Show and Shine Bike and Car Show at Kenai Peninsula Harley- Davidson on Saturday June 4, and of course to the Alaska State HOG Rally in Fairbanks June 16 thru 18. Monday, June 20 is Ride to Work Day and Monday, June 27 is the HOG sponsored Million Mile Monday tell all your friends, whether they ride a Harley or not, to log on to the national HOG website at and register their miles. Instead of getting pledges, this year we will be selling raffle tickets. The tickets sell for $20.00 each or 6 for $100. If you buy 6 tickets you get a HD MDA pin and entry into the Live Ride. Those of you who wish to check out some tickets can work toward the Parade of Heroes. To be in the Parade you must sell a minimum of $800 worth of tickets. The tickets are currently available at the House of Harley. So swing by and pick up yours today! 2

6 ASST. DIRECTOR ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR Hello all from the saddlebags of your Asst. Director/Activities Director I hope everyone's month was fantastic -- some really nice weather we ve had! Thank you God for the great weather, Memorial day and the weekend. Hope everyone who went to the meet in the middle had a good time. I missed all you guys. Steve and I made the trek to the Memorial and hardly anyone from the Anchorage group was there. We were a little disappointed because that's what this weekend was all about: Thanking the men and women who have served. Thanks to all the veteran's who have served and given their all; and those who continue to serve for us to be able to live freely, you are truly appreciated. Boy, it just seems like the summer is going by so quickly! The Rally will be here before we know it. Hope everyone will be able to make it. I'm darn sure going to try might have to work, just haven't got it ironed out quite yet. I haven't been able to make as many rides as I want this year because I have been on a new job and getting a whole lot of hours. Hopefully I ll be able to get a couple of Saturdays off here and there and make some of those rides & overnighters. It would be nice if the rest of this summer s weekends are like the one we just had. As most of you know Monty has stepped down as the Director (quite a loss to the group) Evil has luckily stepped up and taken over (thank's Evil). ROAD CAPTAIN It s summertime in Alaska. We have had great weather this May. I hope it keeps up, but just in case here are some pointers. Two things make all the difference between pleasure and pain in the rain: gear and tires. Nothing is more miserable than riding soaked to the skin in cold, driving rain, so I never leave home without at least a pair of rain pants in my saddle bag. A few other pieces of critical gear in inclement weather are waterproof gloves and boots, good eye protection, and a good jacket. If being prepared with the right gear is half the battle of conquering the rain, tires are the other half. Bald tires can be scary, not to mention dangerous on rainy roads. Lack of confidence in traction is probably the biggest reason some riders stay out of the rain. A few other things I've learned about rain riding are to always be smooth with your inputs, especially the throttle. Ease onto the gas when acceleration, rather than grabbing a handful. Also be smooth with your bike and body movements in transitions and corners by leaning your body more into the turn to keep the bike more upright. Also, stay out of tire ruts in the pavement that collect water and increase the danger of hydroplaning! On a sad note as you have all heard by now we lost one of our fellow members Harvey Shade.
