SOCIAL MEETING Crazy Whist and Pizza An enjoyable Social evening was held on Tuesday at the delightful home of David and Dianne Waterhouse in Berkeley Vale.

2 SOCIAL MEETING Crazy Whist and Pizza An enjoyable Social evening was held on Tuesday at the delightful home of David and Dianne Waterhouse in Berkeley Vale. Also present were DG Peter, Stephen & Kristina, Clive, Con & Carolyn, Robin & Judi, Stan & Anita, and Torben., No card skills were necessary as players each received 13 cards,the trump suit did change around, but otherwise the highest card won. Players were divided into pairs and winners and losers from each game changed tables, changed partners, changed points won, and other nefarious rules announced by Maestro David. Best male winner was Clive and best female winner was Kristina. We then adjourned for pizza and BYO, and some delicious desserts made by Dianne. Many thanks for a great evening. President Gordon s Report I spoke to Kay (Chaplain at Our Lady of The Rosary Primary School) yesterday and this looks to me like an opportunity to help poorer communities with school uniform for kids. Two possibilities came to mind. One was a school in Nepal. A second was distribution through PCYC in poor areas. Other ideas welcome. I promised a response to Kay in the next 2 or 3 weeks as to whether we can help. This is the Year of the Dog Take care out there because you will see a few of these wonderful animals during the year and remember They are the only animal on this earth that loves you more than you do yourself The Rotary Club of The Entrance Page 2

The inclusive dates are 5-18 March (or could be to 16th as is a weekend). Unfortunately the weekend in the middle is District Conference weekend at Leura. 6 Stroke has a new indicator! Read and pass on Stroke has a new indicator They say if you this to ten people, you stand a chance of saving one life. Will you send this along? Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics)..she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00PMJane passed away) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. It only takes a minute to read this. A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough. RECOGNIZING A STROKE Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR. Read and Learn! Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions: S *Ask the individual to SMILE. T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. Chicken Soup) R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher. The Rotary Club of The Entrance Page 6

7 New Sign of a Stroke Stick out Your Tongue! NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke. A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this sends it to 10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved. February 2018 Su Mo Tu We Th Fr Sa This February cannot come in your lifetime again because this year February has 4 Sundays, 4 Mondays, 4 Tuesdays, 4 Wednesdays, 4 Thursdays, 4 Fridays and 4 Saturdays. This happens once every 823 years. According to Chinese Feng Shui this is called money bags and if you send this to at least 5 people or 5 groups then money will arrive within 5 days I don t know about the Chinese rewards but just interesting that this is the last 4 s February for 800 or so years!!
