Boys Win Championship By Sophia Wall and Maddie Petrone T he boys basketball team were the overall MCAL champions for the school year. The Brielle Blazers ended their regular season with an record of 7-5 as they headed into the final game against St. Catherines. Some highlights of the season were defeating Manasquan at home and defeating Spring Lake Heights in the semi-final game. Some strengths were that they were pretty quick and played as a team. There was not much of a drop off talentwise when substituting. They became better at man-to-man defensive team as the season progressed, which helped in the postseason. Throughout the season Ryan Bilello, Patrick Woodford, Jack Dettlinger, Ryan Deegan, James Cosgrove, Nini Galvan, Bobby Thompson, Jack Burns, Ryan Burns and Robert Pendergist all stepped up at various times to help the team success. One of the toughest but also the most satisfying seasons I have had in 20 years of coaching. They became the team that I always knew they could become and I am very proud of them. It was a really bumpy ride with a lot of tough losses against some of the best competition in Monmouth County but the boys pulled together in the post season to achieve something that only 5 Brielle teams have achieved this century, explained Coach labrecque.

By Aislinn Crowe The 2018 M.C.A.L. Exhibition, held on February 27 at Manasquan High School, was a success for the Brielle cheer team. Led by captains Kendal McGowan, MaryPat McManus, Joy Nolan, and Juliet Nuccio, the team successfully put on a great performance. Their coach, Ms.Stover, supported the team throughout the whole season and was glad to see the girls participate in one of the best performances of the night.

30th Annual Brielle Geography Bee By Molly Dettlinger For the past 30 years, Brielle Elementary school has participated in an annual geography bee. The contestants take a test to be eligible for the bee. Each round has questions covering different aspects of world geography. The 2018 winner was Alek Polesky for the second year in a row. Ian Milkowski placed second and Fin Healy placed third. All students who participated in the Geography Bee did an excellent job. Congrats to everyone who was in the Geography Bee.

Read Across America Day By Molly Dettlinger Read Across America Day has been happening at our school for the past five years. this is the first year the older grade students paired up with younger grade students and they read together. Every student was paired up with another student and sat all throughout the hallways. Some were paired with their book buddies and some had two partners. Everyone was reading different books. It was a great way to get everyone involved with reading and celebrating DR. Suess birthday.

TSA COMPETITION By Aislinn Crowe The TSA Competition was held at TCNJ, and consisted of a variety of events in which a handful of our students competed in. Although more students competed, Brielle took home 3 trophies- one for first place and two for second. The Web Design team (Quinn Chapman and Justin Atnes) got first place in their event, while the Community Service Video team (Ava Chiarella, Joey Herrmann, Allie Sproul, and Angie Escamilla) and the Digital Photography event (Aislinn Crowe) got second. In all, it was a successful day for our school and a great experience for the competitors. The TSA winners were also honored at a recent board meeting where they got to show their projects to the board and explain the requirements.

Jump Rope for Heart By Becca Curran By Becca Curran and Maddie Petrone Brielle jumped right into Jump Rope for Heart Day with fun activities for grades K-3 led by the Peer Leaders and Mrs. Looney. Jump rope for heart is an activity to raise money for the American Heart Association and every year Brielle certainly does deliver. This year we

raised a record $ for the American Heart Association 3/14 This year, on March 14, the seventh and eighth graders celebrated Pi day with the younger students. There were many activities designed to learn the decimal of Pi, math, and history of Pi. Students from Mrs Lomet s and Mrs. Ramsey s class made posters to hang up and designed Pi themed games to play. The winner this year for reciting the most digits of pi was Gavin O Connor with the record of 426 digits of Pi. By, Brooke Rodricks

Girls Basketball by-mattie Petrone and Sofia Wall The Girls Basketball season was a slam dunk. They had a record of 3 wins and 9 losses. Even though no titles were won, the highlight of the season was beating Ocean Township in their opening game. It was one of the best games the team had. All of the players contributed including Ali Evans and Madeline Johnson. The 8th graders pulled the team together, with Lily Formichella leading the way. Although size was a problem for the team, they used their biggest strength which was teamwork to pull through. Lily Formichella and Ali Evans were the two biggest contributors to the team

on offense. The MVP on defense was Madeline Johnson. BES DRAMA CLUB by- Brooke Rodricks and Becca Curran This year s 2018 Drama Club production made a splash with one of the best performances Brielle has seen. The production was led by Mrs. McWilliams, Mrs. North, and Ms. McAlary. The show featured The Little Mermaid. Some of the lead roles were Ariel, played by Kiera Murphy, Sebastien, played by Ava Chiarella, Price Eric, played by Daniel Colon, and a special appearance featuring Mrs. Hyland as a princess #7. The cast and crew did a marvelous job bringing the production to life. The audience, cast, and crew were sad to see it come to a close. The finale brought everyone to tears especially the departing eighth graders, who have to come back to see Brielle s

next performance. Faculty vs. Student By, For the past 30+ year one of the biggest Brielle Booster fundraisers has been the faculty vs. student basketball game. This year the students defeated the faculty with a score of The highest scorer for the faculty was Mr. Labrecque and all of the students contributed to the win. In the beginning, the teachers were down by 20 points then made a comeback and had the lead for a short while in the fourth quarter but the students pulled ahead and were victorious.
