1 Breanna Callaway, one of the new 7th graders at Delta High, says she likes it! She says, My biggest fear about being in Junior High was being tardy to class, but my favorite thing about the new school is the great science class I get to take! Carsyn Swain stated, My biggest fear about my new school was that I d be late to my classes, but I like being able to move from class to class better than the way things are set up at the elementary. Another 7th grader, Trevor Stoffregen, said, Not getting to class on time was my biggest fear about the new school, but my favorite thing about Jr. High is lunch. I have more time to eat and hang out with my friends. The measure of intelligence is the ability to change. - Albert Einstein Prior to this past August, the last solar eclipse the United States witnessed was on February 26, The path passed through the northwestern U.S. states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and North Dakota. However, on August 21st, the United States witnessed another eclipse which passed right through our small town. We experienced something that only happens maybe once or twice in a lifetime. The teachers and students of Delta High and Elementary went to the SEMO campus in Cape Girardeau to watch the spectacle. All the kids enjoyed it, even though the heat and the overcrowding was a hassle. I don t think any one of them would have given up the opportunity to see the magnificent beauty of the solar eclipse

2 Every quarter we have a Club Day dedicated to all the clubs we have at the school. It s a day filled with fun and planning of the clubs activities for the year. Student Council held their first meeting. They talked about their plans for the can food drive, senior Christmas dinner and Toys for Tots. Pep Club discussed fundraisers to earn money for their club. Science Club made Obleck, a mixture that is liquid at rest but solid with force. The kids had a GREAT time with that! This month we held our annual Grandparents Day at our elementary school. The children always have a blast and so do the grandparents. It s a time filled with laughter, joy, and most of all, ICE CREAM! The children loved spending time with their grandparents and friends as they ate ice cream. We had A+ students helping with distributing the snacks. Tamera Crowden, Katie Borneman, Adrianna Medley, Coley Blattel, Lexie Berry, Colton White, and many more high school students helped out with the celebrations. As you can see, it was a great time for everyone involved. The grandparents loved it. The kids loved it. The teachers loved it. It was a day filled with fun and happiness. FBLA decided which fundraiser they wanted to do. The kids picked selling chocolate bars. Delta Color Guard practiced for their upcoming parade in Marble Hill, MO on Saturday, September 23. Members are Andrea Slinkard (10th), Kaylee Woolums (9th), Josie Younger (10th), Kourtney Ruggeri (9th), and Hannah Bond (9th). FCA had their first club meeting on September 13. Captain Colton White and Co-Captain Andrea Slinkard led the meeting explaining the goals of the year. Plans were made to do several service projects this year with the first one being a supply drive for the Cape County Humane Society. The class that brings in the most supplies between Sept Oct. 6 will receive an ice cream sundae party. The club meeting ended with a friendly game of rock, paper, scissors with Jon Bond being the champion!

3 ARCADIA VALLEY At Saturday's Cross Country meet at Arcadia Valley, with 31 schools and nearly 600 runners, our Bobcat runners did an outstanding job. We had six individuals medal, three of those six broke our course records, and every single runner had a better mile average time than they had in their last meet. Medaling in the meet were Josh Statler, Grant Coomer, Kendall Holweg, Kyle Rogers, Trevor Stoffregen and Gunner Lesch. Breaking course records were Josh Statler, Kendall Holweg and Kyle Rogers. Josh broke a record that had stood since 2012 for the high school boys- running a very good time of 18:43 for the 3.1 mile course. Kendall broke her own course record for the junior high girls- besting her previous record by 33 seconds running a time of 9:43 for the 1.5 mile course. Kyle also broke his own course record for the junior high boys by 35 seconds- running a time of 8:25 for the 1.5 mile course. Metal winners of the Oak Ridge Meet. Trevor Kelly, Grant Coomer, Isaiah Thomas, and Josh Statler at he Jackson Meet Congratulations to the cross country runners for outstanding performances at Saturday s meet at Notre Dame where there were 33 schools participating. We had six medalist: Josh Statler, Emily Landewee, Kendall Holweg, Autumn Elbert, Kyle Rogers and Trevor Stoffegen. This was the most medals we have ever won at this very tough meet. Cross Country. Some say that if you can run cross country, you can do anything. Usually if you just started running for your team, you don t expect to place in the first few races. However, one of our cross country boys did just that. Trevor Stoffregen was running for the first time and got first place surprising everyone. Trevor came down the final hill sprinting past all runners to win first place. Some teams didn t even know Delta had cross country runners. To their surprise Delta does and we won. He even earned 16th place for his time in the Delta Jr high records. Grant Coomer coming to the finish line at Oak Ridge. Mr. B, Emily, and Couch Walton after Emily won her metal at the Jackson meet. 4 Zarchary Deck is one of our first senior spotlights for the Bobcat Monitor. His favorite food is pizza, same Zach! His favorite movie is Deadpool, which isn't surprising. Zach has always been a jokester and so is Deadpool. His favorite singer is Brandon Urie from Panic! At the Disco. When asked what were his comments to the underclassmen of his school, he said Don t worry about drama and get mad or sad, just enjoy life. That s all you can do. Zach s parents are Tracy and Brayn Deck, and he has one brother Andrew Krin. Dustin Sides is our other senior spotlight for the Bobcat Monitor. His favorite food is also pizza! His favorite movie is Pulp Fiction; obviously he s a 90 s fan! Look at his shirt! He said his favorite singer is Logic. His plans after school are to go to work. Dustin s comment to the underclassmen is Good luck. He has two siblings Austin and Jacob. The Delta High School student body would like to thank everyone who came out to the fair for the 4-H Club. The Delta staff were a little hesitate to allow the students out of their classes, but they understood how much the students loved showing off their animals and how this event could benefit them in learning real life situational skills even if it isn t in a school environment. After all, they put so much effort into their hobbies to prepare for this event. Competing students have to work with other students from other schools, listen to judges, listen to the multiple people coordinating the event, follow specific instructions, care for the animals, and help newcomers care for their animals. The students must also learn to be gracious winners and have good sportsmanship when in defeat. It was so wonderful to see Carsyn teaching the students from several schools on field trips. Since Carsyn was very good with teaching the young children, many of the adults would look for her to teach the children. There were many students who got awards and honorable mentions at the Semo State Fair. These names include Morgan and Lauren Crutsinger, Garrett Brown, Fayelin Keigan, and the Janson boys. For starters I will begin with the Crutsingers: they won reserve champion 4-H, and FFA Hereford Heifer, Champion Senior Division, Champion Real Time, and Champion 4-H Showman Award. Next onto Garrett Brown, he won 1st in Showmanship for the 8-10 year old group and 2nd place in his class. Faylin s pig got 1st place in her class. Last, but certainly not least, Keigan got a Reserve Championship Ribbon. So whether you went to the fair or not, these students were absolutely wonderful, and the Delta crew cannot wait for the Semo State Fair next year. We hope to see you there.

5 The Delta Junior high girls are 7-0 as of September 26th. The lady bobcats beat East Prairie 29-19, Oak Ridge by 4 in a close game 36-32, Charleston 40-30, Woodland 37-28, Chaffee 33-21, Puxico 46-5, and Advance Congrats to the junior high girls on a great road victory at Charleston. Kendall Holweg recorded double-double against Charleston with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The junior high girls team is winning games by playing great defense and playing together. We have 12 girls who all contribute and know their roles. Things we need to work on are making free throws and finishing layups.
