As usual, Olympic trials and Na onal Congress are occurring together, This year they were held in San Jose, CA from June 28th through July 1st. And they were exci ng! The top two at Trials were separated by only one tenth of a point and we didn t know who was going to win un l that last rou ne. What a compeon! The Olympics were just as impressive. At least for the US. :) Yeah Gabby! Congratula ons! Contracts At Regional Congress, we were reminded that we should be sending individual contracts for each meet, as the contract is between you and the meet director, not directly between you and NAWGJ. As we send out s with meet assignments, you should also receive a contract a ached to the . Please fill in the contract and return one copy to Cherie Smith and one copy to the meet director. You can type in your name as an electronic signature and a ach the contract to an so that you don t have to use snail mail. Outstanding Vouchers We have gone through all of the Judges Cup check mark sheets and vouchers that have been turned in to determine how much NC-NAWGJ s ll owes our judges in outstanding vouchers. As of the end of June, NC-NAWGJ had approximately $47,000 in outstanding vouchers from the last several years, but we only have approximately $11,000 in our account. The vouchers that are currently outstanding can be turned in through September 30, Our NC-NAWGJ board spent a lot of me discussing our budget shor all, and we are commi ed to paying back all of the outstanding vouchers it will just take us a li le while to get that done. At this point, we have enough in our account to pay some of our opera- onal expenses, NAWGJ memberships that are owed for the upcoming year, (con nued on page 7)

5 The Social Corner: Interviews with Stephanie Phillips about her trip to France and Terri Lymon about her trip to Na onal Judges Cup. By Jeanne Hiesel Paris, Normandy, and other loca ons France Some of you have probably been there and some have not. How many of those who haven t would like to see the City of Lights some me in their lives? (my hand is up!) Stephanie Phillips went there in October Who did you go with? My husband, it was a delayed 20th anniversary trip. How long were you there? 11 beau ful days. What were the highlights of your trip? The sites that were most fascina ng. The Louvre (saw Rodan), Notre Dame cathedral, D Orsay (city of the impressionist painters), playing guide for my husband in Paris, Mon St. Michael (a medieval castle on an island off the west coast of France) Where else did you go besides Paris? Chambord (loca on of the largest castle in France), Belloise, Mon St. Michael, Normandy (WW2 beaches and cemeteries), Giverny (home town of Monet), and Versailles ============================================================================================== Na onal Judges Cup Terri Lymon went to Na onal Judges Cup held at Indianapolis, Indiana in January Why did you decide to go? Everest and my daughter were compe ng. Where did you stay? Marrio What were some of the highlights? Downtown Indianapolis was pre y. We were there just before the Superbowl and went to see the stadium. We got direc ons from a homeless person. Also was the Indy500 race track. The weather was mild for January. Warm enough to only need sweaters. What event did you judge? Vault What did you find most interes ng? The State gi s raffle I didn t win. Every judge brings a gi from their State and they are raffled off by NJC commi ee members. Not every judge gets a prize. The compeon was similar in format to the FlipFest compeon held in Knoxville, TN. There were two compe - on floors and 4 sets of bars. The people were nice and the food was good, both the restaurants and what we were served. Loved St. Elmo s. The conven on center was huge and all ameni es were available within walking distance. 7 final thoughts... In honour of Ray Bradbury.. You have to know how to accept rejec on and reject acceptance. Learning to let go should be learned before learning to get. Finding An Agent That s Right For You ~ Ray Bradbury and approximately 10% of the outstanding vouchers. Please feel free to go ahead and send in any receipts for your outstanding vouchers at this me, and we will reimburse 10% of your total outstanding vouchers right away. We will hold on to the receipts, and as we raise money, we will con nue to issue checks un l the en re amount that you have earned in vouchers has been reimbursed. Moving forward, we will handle Judges Cup a li le differently. Rather than assigning dollar amounts to the sessions ahead of me, we will wait un l we know how much we have profited before assigning values to the sessions. This way we can avoid promising to pay more money than we have in our account. We will not issue paper vouchers, but we will maintain a record of how much each person has earned towards their future educa onal expenses. Please feel free to me at any me if you need to know how much you have in outstanding vouchers. Un l we have reimbursed all of the outstanding vouchers, a por on of the profits of each Judges Cup will be dedicated towards paying off the outstanding vouchers, and the rest will be set aside to contribute to judges future educa onal expenses. As in the past, everyone will be expected to volunteer for three sessions, and we will pay for the NAWGJ memberships for those judges. Training Camp in Athens, GA Region 8 Training Camp and NAWGJ Regional Symposium will be held in Athens, GA on the weekend of September 7-9. This is a great opportunity to earn clinic hours for CPE s or ingym me for Regional Availability. This is also an opportunity to volunteer for those who need volunteer hours towards the Na onal Course or Brevet Course. REMINDERS Check the USA Gymnas cs website for the latest Women s program updates, Code of Points and Compulsory errata, membership informa on, tes ng schedules, and gymnas cs events schedules. From one of our senior level judges. Time is marked from march-in on the schedule to the end of the compeon for each session. Total the number of judging hours for each day. See pages in the Rules and Policies to determine the amount of break me. Subtract the expected amount of break me from the actual amount of break me that occurred. A posi ve number is added to the judging hours. A nega ve number is not.
