I want to personally thank you all for your support and dedication to Dunbar Elementary School. You are the reason we will accomplish all our set goals this year. There are a few things that will help us to achieve that Great School concept we seek: PBIS-Adhere to Guidelines LOI-Be Prepared for your Teacher Evaluation Lesson Plans-Foundation of Instruction and Learning CIP-Continuous School Improvement Plan-Review and Enforce Action Steps Data Driven and Research Based Instruction-Use to catapult students to the next level of learning (Proficient and Highly Proficient) PD-Attend/Share Learning with All Committee and Staff Meetings-Be an Active Participant FIRE Power-Friendship, Integrity, Responsibility, and Excellence at all times is crucial Again, Thank you all for the best year ever! 2 Breaking news: PBIS Continues at Dunbar Elementary School! This Year s First PBIS Roll Out Assembly Wow what a fun assembly about F.I.R.E. Power! Dunbar Dragons are expected to show FRIENDSHIP, INTEGRITY, RESPONSIBILITY, and EXCELLENCE everyday! The assembly included a fun game of Teacher vs Students. If you were chosen to participate and if you beat a teacher to an answer, you could have won candy or a bag of prizes! So be prepared for the next assembly and save your PBIS tickets for more prizes! More importantly, even if you don t receive a ticket, still remember to treat everyone with respect and show friendship to all of our Dunbar Dragons. Don t forget about Class Wars! Every month, our staff comes into your classroom and they count all of your personal best tickets! The number of tickets each class has received will be up on the wall and the one teacher who has the most will win a pizza party or maybe even an ice cream party! 3 Back to School Night at Dunbar Back to school night was fun because you got to meet your teacher and see your new classroom! Free haircuts and our new Dunbar t- shirts were given away. Students and parents had snow cones and it was a fun night for everybody! We were also reminded of our school s vision and mission: Vision: Dunbar School is a place where excellence is everywhere...everyday...in everyone! Mission: Our school mission is to promote student learning with high expectations and accountability for all! We would also like to welcome our teachers who are new to Dunbar this year. Please welcome: Ms. Guice - 3rd Grade, Mr. Perez - 4th Grade, Ms. Myers - 6th Grade, Mr. Davis, 7th/8th Grades, and Mrs. Haase - Reading Interventionist. We will feature interviews of our brand new teachers in upcoming newsletters. Welcome back, everyone, to our new school year! Written by Kimberly Alvarez We are pleased to welcome Mr. Davis, Dunbar s new 7th/8th Grade Teacher! Mr. Davis is from Chicago, Illinois and he came to Dunbar because it was a school that he could see himself really making an impact at. Mr. Davis would like Dunbar students to know that he cares about each and every one of them, and that he hopes he can affect them by helping them realize that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible. Mr. Davis wanted to become a teacher because he wanted to directly work with kids and help them realize all the amazing opportunities education can bring to them. Mr. Davis 4th Grade teacher was who inspired him to become a teacher. Mr. Davis says that she really cared about her students and made sure that they worked hard daily while making it creative and fun. Mr. Davis misses his family and friends, but he has made some new friends out here! He came to Arizona because he loves the west coast, warm weather, and atmosphere! We are excited to have Mr. Davis at Dunbar! 3

In her spare time, Kimberly enjoys playing the guitar, watching YouTube videos, and playing on musically. She decided to join the newsletter team because she loves to write and hopes to inspire others to be a part of the newsletter team in the future. Welcome!
