We are a region of the Model A Restorers Club (MARC).

3 From the President Friends, Romans, club members lend me your ears. We are not here to merely praise the Model A, we re here to drive them and after the planning meeting, it s obvious that we should have ample opportunities. I have to admit that I was a bit worried having the meeting on the Ides of March, but then again, if you kill me, you could be the next president. We ve had a couple of nice days and most of the snow pile is gone. I ve actually managed to get to the garage and start getting the sedan ready for the season. The radiator no longer leaks and is back on the car. There could be an upcoming newsletter article on repairing radiator necks; it s actually not that hard. Now there are only a few more things to get done, like putting the hood back on and maybe fixing the brakes. So if you ve been putting things off until we have warmer weather, it may soon be time to get out in the garage and get things done. It s spring and we should be out touring the country side. Don t forget that our next planned event is perfect for those that haven t started their maintenance. That s right, it s the annual Up Your A Day or for those more politically correct, Raise Your A Day. If you don t want to work on your car, there s always the opportunity to give your beloved President grief (I think it s the only reason that Bob invites me back). This is also the perfect event to start my new initiative, Model A maintenance reform. If you don t like Obama care, I m sure you ll love Fritz care. Don t worry; I won t raise your taxes (well at least I won t raise them too much). Also in April is the new swap meet in Hellertown. It looks like it should be a well attended event and I m looking forward to seeing some people from other clubs that I haven t seen in a while. Tom

6 2014 Planning Meeting Hosted by the Allison s We actually picked a day for the planning meeting when there was no snow predicted for the day. That was a hard thing to do this winter. We had a great turn out with 19 members of the Running Board A s in attendance. Those in attendance were Tom Fritz, Deb Daye, Dick Myszka, Doug Pyatt, Don and Lorraine Fox, Ed and June Schwartz, Neal Frank, Chuck and Deb Savitske, Tom and Eva Burrell, Bob and Bernadette Outwater, Bob and Anna Satin and Diane and me. There were several brave souls that even brought their A s, although some of the folks from New Jersey almost lost their A s in the pot holes trying to get here. My biggest fear was having someone try to park on the grass and have the

7 car sink up to the axles in mud. We got everyone parked on the solid ground and sat down to a great meal provided by Diane and the club members. If there is one thing this club is good at, it is eating! Everyone enjoyed the food and the friendly chatter. It has been a long cold, snowy winter, so there was a lot of catching up to do. When everyone had eaten their fill, and in some cases more than their fill, our fearless leader King Tom began the meeting by trying to abdicate his thrown. We countered by threatening to change the club constitution to make the presidency a life sentence...i mean term. I think it was decided that only the newsletter editor should be a life sentence. When we finally got the meeting rolling, we came up with almost two dozen events over then next 8 months.

8 We have many of the usual annual events planned, like Raise Your A Day, the Strawberry Festival and the Road Kill Rally. There are also some new events planned, such as the Hellertown Model A Event, hosted by the LVMAC and the Rutgers Tomato Tasting Event and dinner and the Field to Table dinner, both hosted by the Burrells. We don t have any overnight tours planned this year, but we do have a couple of ideas for next year. We will get a feel for how many are interested and do some research for a future overnight event. Even though there are many events planned, there is always room for more. If you have ideas, please check the calendar of events for an open date and send me the details. The earlier I get the information, the more chance of success for your event. After all that hard work setting up the schedule, everyone was hungry for dessert. It just so happened that it was

9 both Tom and Diane s birthday in March. It wasn t just any birthday. It was the big 60 for both of them. Deb Daye was kind enough to provide a cake and candles for them to celebrate. In addition to the cake, we also had pies and you guessed it, ICE CREAM. No Model A event is complete without it. The complete calendar of events is printed in the newsletter. 10 CALENDAR OF EVENTS April Model A Safety Day I m in says TF, maybe we can repaint my car Raise Your A Day (or as some may prefer, Up Your A Day ) Bob & Bernadette Outwater s Garage 10:00 AM-Saturday, April 19, 2014 Bob & Bernadette are pleased to once again host Raise Your A Day. This is a day for you and your Model A to spend some quality time together looking for those annoying rattles, potential suspension issues or maybe a quick lube (Note to any member with initials TF: No shackles, engine rebuilds, dent removal projects, brake overhaul, or anything that occupies the lift for more than 2 minutes). As always, Bob s lift will be available for you to check things out. Sandwiches and drinks will be provided. Please feel free to bring along a side salad or dessert. Saturday, April 26, 2014 Model A Ford Day Hosted by the Lehigh Valley Model A Club 9:00 AM Hellertown Grist Mill Park Running Board A s are invited to meet at Savitske s at 8:15 AM. The LVMAC has invited us along with the other local Model A clubs to a Ford Model A Day in the Grist Mill Park in Hellertown Pa. According to the LVMAC, Our goal is to get anyone with a Model A to bring it to the Park and get the public to see the cars; generating interest in the hobby and attracting new members. Nelson Chegezy is our contact with the LVMAC. Please see the flyer for the event on the next page. We will bring a table, the club banner and a pop-up tent for the event. The club photo albums will be available for the general public to view and a short summary of our club and membership applications will be available.

JWR Museum Tour Frackville, Pa May 17, 2014 Hosted by Don & Lorraine Fox This tour was scheduled for October 2011 but due to the snow storm it was cancelled. In December Mr. Rich died and tours were cancelled. They are once again giving tours to clubs and accepted our request for May 17 th at 1:00 PM. There is no charge for the tour but they ask that everyone make a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation when we get there. The museum opened over 30 years ago and has a collection of some of the most unique and historic vehicles produced. We will be leaving the Wawa on Route 663 at 9:00AM. For those coming from New Jersey and don t want to come to Quakertown, we can meet at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant in Foglesville on Route 100 at 9:45AM. Please let Don & Lorraine know if you will attend by May 10 th at or at dolofo@comcast.net. You can find their website at We will stop for lunch at the Beacon Restaurant, north of Tamaqua before the tour.

Barn tour hosted by the Heritage Conservancy. Join the Allison s as we tour up to 15 barns in the Bucks County area. This is a new event for the Heritage Conservancy, a land preservation organization. They have tried to make this driving tour compatible for car clubs like ours. Contact them at September Lehigh Valley Model A Club Poker Run, Saturday, Sept 13th 2014 We cordially invite you and the members of your Model A Club to join the members of the Lehigh Valley Model A Club for our 4th annual Poker Run on Saturday, September 13th. This is also INTERNATIONAL MODEL A DAY for You surely will have a fun day driving your Model A around Bucks County and through the fantastic covered bridges in the area. For those who have not participated previously: Cars will leave in groups in staggered starts from the start point. There will be 5 stops along the way to pick a card from each of 5 bags.

17 CALENDAR OF EVENTS Continued The card types will be recorded on a score sheet to form a 5 card poker hand which will be turned in at the end of the route so we can decide who has the highest poker hand. There will be prizes for the winners and probably a luncheon as was included previously. More info will follow as the plans get finalized. Only Model A cars and Model AA trucks are welcome to participate. We hope to again have a very enjoyable International Model A Day driving our wonderful cars. This is a great event that is being held right in our own back yard. Lets make sure we support the LVMAC! Saturday, September 27th. Harvest Dinner in the Field.
