NDNL CODE OF CONDUCT All NDNL members must conduct themselves in a way that respects other members. All NDNL members must consider their own and the safety and well being of others at all times. The NDNL members will display a consistently respectful standard of behaviour and should not act in a way (either verbally or physically) that could bring the NDNL s name into disrepute. All NDNL members will follow the rules as laid down by the organisations to which the club is affiliated. No NDNL member must condone any rule violations (included the use of prohibited substances). All members will encourage and value the performance of other members regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, ability, sexuality or social/economic status. Where there are alleged breaches in this code of conduct all NDNL members have a personal responsibility to positively challenge the breach. They must ensure that after an incident has occurred it is reported to the committee.

WHO TO ASK? If you have any questions please feel free to ask any member of the committee, they will advise you who will know the answer if they cannot help. For specific queries these will probably know the answers: Rules / Paperwork Katrina Venner Finance Sally King Issues with the courts Nina Barham, Sally King Umpiring Sharon Curtis Junior Netball Chris Farr, Tessa Gorin, History of the League Sally King, Chris Farr, Nina Barham

WHAT HAPPENS ON A LEAGUE NIGHT? In the Winter League two matches are played per night: the first starts at 6.55pm, the second at 8.20pm. There is a hooter to indicate 5 minutes until the start of each match. Players MUST be on court in the correct playing positions at the start time specified if players are late they can join during the game (according to the late players rule). A team can start with a minimum of 5 players. Umpires and scorers/timers MUST have checked nails/jewellery and be ready to start the match at the specified time. Each team is required to provide an umpire and scorer/timer for the match before or after the match they are playing. The umpire must be at least the level required as stated on the fixture list. Any teams who are unable to provide this must contact another team and pay them to provide an umpire / scorer / timer for them. Each court is timed independently by the scorers there is NOT central timing this allows for injury time to be taken if/when necessary, however courts must still start the match on time! There are six courts at Park School, where the matches are played. They are numbered 1-6 with one being closest and 6 being furthest away. There is time before each game for teams to warm up and between games to warm up and for those who are playing AND umpiring or scoring/timing to change and use the facilities!

There are committee members around playing, umpiring, coaching or watching throughout the evening so if you have ANY queries please ASK! The courts are numbered as follows: PARK SCHOOL: entrance Cupboard & shelter TARKA TENNIS CENTRE courts 7 & 8. Court 7 is closest to the centre

WHAT DOES A CAPTAIN NEED TO DO? General: Ensure Katrina Venner has up-to-date contact details for you particularly an address and AENA numbers for all your regular players. Distribute fixtures to team members and ensure players arrive in sufficient time for matches! If your team is unable to play a fixture the captain must contact the umpires of that match, the opposing team and Katrina Venner at least 24 hours before. Match night: BEFORE the game complete the results sheet in their books. IF a player is borrowed from another team their FULL name and normal playing team must be indicated. If you have a player who is new to your team, her name needs to be written on the bottom and 2 needs to be paid when you hand in the sheet. At the END of the game write in how many quarters a borrowed player has played and ensure BOTH umpires write the score on the sheet in the results book and sign the sheet. Check the score and sign the sheet. The captain MUST also write in the name and position of the player on the opposition whom they feel was the outstanding player. Their team should discuss this and should remember it is for the most outstanding player, preferably with a good attitude! The white results sheet MUST then be placed in the box near the court or given to Katrina Venner or Sharon Curtis. If this is forgotten please Katrina asap! If something notable happens in the match please write it on the back of the results sheet to go in the newspaper.

Checklist for the results sheet: Correct score the right way around! TWO umpires signatures Outstanding Player Nomination Any borrowed played indicated and how many quarters played Any new registrations Captain s signature Hand in sheet! Date DATE Division 1 / 2 etc Team YOUR TEAM v OPPOSITION UMPIRES USUALLY WRITE THE SCORES HERE GK YOUR STARTING GK If one of these GD YOUR STARTING GD players is borrowed WD YOUR STARTING WD you write the team they are registered C YOUR STARTING C to in brackets next WA YOUR STARTING WA to their name here GA YOUR STARTING GA AND how many GS YOUR STARTING GS quarters they Sub YOUR STARTING subs played Score UMPIRES WRITE THE SCORES HERE Outstanding player of the opposition WRITE BEST OPPOSING PLAYER Umpires: UMPIRES BOTH SIGN HERE New players: If you have a NEW player playing for the first time write their name here AND pay 2 when you hand in the sheet Captain CAPTAIN SIGNS HERE check the score FIRST!!

BORROWING AND NEW PLAYERS A team in a club may borrow ONE player from another club team in the same or lower division. If they are from the same division but a higher team they must play OUT of position check with Katrina before the match if you are unsure what their normal position is. If they are from a lower division or a lower team in the same division they may play in any position. A player may ONLY be borrowed for twelve quarters. On the thirteenth quarter she must move teams and then she must stay in that team and not be borrowed for the remainder of the season. A team may add new players to their team at any point during the season. Their names must be written on the results sheet and 2 must be paid on the night of their FIRST league match. Once they have played three matches they must affiliate to England Netball and you need to inform the results secretary (Katrina Venner) of their AENA number.

NOMINATIONS AND VOTING Shortly after Christmas all teams will be required to nominate players of the season from their own division. Categories are: Junior (U21) player, Senior Player (O21), Classic Cup (O40 all divisions), Most Improved Player (any age), Newcomer commitment (any age, any division), Umpire (any age, any division), Rosebowl commitment (any age, any division) Therefore during the season if you notice anyone for any of these categories please make a note of their name and team (possibly at the back of your results book) so that when it comes to nominating and even more importantly voting you have a good idea of who your team wish to vote for. AGM Every July there is an AGM one member from each team must attend. Before this there is a month where teams can put forward proposals for changes to the constitution and rules and regulations. Please ensure any proposals are forwarded to the secretary Elaine Norton before the date given and that any proposals that have been made are discussed with team members before voting on them at the AGM as they will be ed to the captain.

WHAT DOES AN UMPIRE NEED TO DO? Arrive in plenty of time! AT LEAST 10 mins before the specified start time. Complete pre-match checks BEFORE the specified start time. Start the match ON TIME. Umpire according to England Netball Rules and the NDNL Rules and Regulations for stoppages / late arrivals etc. At the END of the match Check the scorers both agree the score AND how many quarters a borrowed player played. Fill in the score AND sign the results sheet for BOTH teams. If you notice a player who you feel should be mentioned in the press write up or who should be nominated when it comes to the league awards please make a note of the player s name and team and pass this to Katrina Venner / Elaine Norton.

WHAT DOES A SCORER / TIMER NEED TO DO? Arrive in plenty of time at least 10 mins before the specified start time. Bring sufficient clothing and something to write on and with. Ask who the other scorer / timer is. Stand TOGETHER but score SEPARATELY. After each goal is scored CHECK the score with the other scorer and then one of you calls out the score LOUDLY. Write down if the captain s inform you of any player on their team who is borrowed and make a note of how many quarters she plays. Ask the umpire whether they wish you to tell them before the 15mins is up / count down from ten secs / 5 secs / just call time. Watch the timer closely and one scorer (with the timer) goes to the closest umpire with only 10 secs left and tells them what they wish may just be the call of TIME. Do NOT just sit and shout TIME from the sideline the scorer/timer MUST go to the umpire! Check the score and centre passes with the umpires at every break. CONCENTRATE FULLY ON THE MATCH! If you notice a player who you feel should be mentioned in the press write up or who should be nominated when it comes to the league awards please make a note of the player s name and team and pass this to Katrina Venner / Elaine Norton.

CANCELLATIONS BY THE LEAGUE Our league is played outdoors and many members travel a considerable distance on typical Devon roads. Therefore it is inevitable that matches will be postponed on some occasions. The committee keep a close eye on the weather forecast and aim to make the decision to postpone a fixture before 4.30pm on a match night. Captains will be telephoned by 4.45pm if the decision to postpone a match has been made by the committee. Matches will only be cancelled when the conditions are deemed too dangerous to play i.e. freezing temperatures, high winds and lightning. They will not be cancelled for rain unless this is accompanied by one of the other factors mentioned. However, on some occasions the weather turns and is worse than forecast. When this occurs we do apologise but the committee will cancel fixtures during the evening. They will consider the risks both for the players playing and their travel. Unfortunately on these rare occasions some people will have travelled in for nothing. Obviously the health and safety of the players is paramount.

POINTS AND LEAGUE TABLE The points awarded to teams are as follows: 5 points to the winning team 3 points to both teams in the event of a draw 2 points to the losing team if they score MORE THAN 50% of the winning team s score AND WITHIN 5 goals of the winning team s total. 1 point to the losing team IF they score OVER 50% of the winning team s total. The league table is updated regularly and ed to the captain s and the local press. If there are mistakes (and there are at times!) please don t hesitate to contact the results secretary Katrina Venner.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE EVENT OF AN INJURY? BLOOD if a player is bleeding the umpire calls time and the player must be tidied up and all blood must be removed before the game is resumed. There is a TWO minute time limit and then play must resume. This does NOT count as the team s injury time for that quarter. INJURY if a player is injured during the match she or a player on her team should call time to the umpire. The umpire may not stop the game immediately depending where the ball is. There is a maximum of 2 minutes for this injury break. Either team may make team changes/substitutions. The player who called time should be involved in the change. Each team may call an injury time in each quarter. IF a team suffers a second injury in the same quarter then the injury break is only 30 seconds and the player must leave the court (a substitute may take her place). SEVERE INJURY if an ambulance is required and the match is stopped for more than ~15 minutes the match will be abandoned and re-scheduled. It will be re-played from the beginning. Remaining players will have cooled down and are more likely to incur another injury trying to play on. Also there is insufficient time to complete the match. The postcode is EX32 9AX

WHAT HAPPENS IF I NEED TO CANCEL A MATCH? If you cannot raise a team you should aim to give more than 24 hours notice. If this is not given then your team will incur the fines listed previously. In the event of cancelling a match you must contact ALL of the following: The opposition s captain The two umpires listed to umpire your match The Results & Fixtures secretary (Katrina Venner) You also need to ensure you cover your opposition s umpiring commitment AND yours for that evening.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A TEAM IS LATE? If a team is late they shall lose two goals immediately and two goals every two minutes up to a maximum of 20 goals. The team who are there on time must be on court ready to play and the scorer/timer (together with the umpire) must start the stopwatch and make a note of the score. When the team has enough players they take the court and the time continues with the score being plus to the opposition. E.G. If a team is 4.5 minutes late: They arrive, change, have nails checked and toss; the stopwatch still runs as this should have been done beforehand. If the stopwatch now says 6mins 10s the game will start and the team there on time will be 8-0 to start (2 goals for being late, 2 for each of three subsequent 2 minutes.) If the team were ready and on court in 5mins 45s they would be 0-6 down. They would then play the match with the stopwatch continuing to the 15mins. A team must have 5 players to take the court.

ENGLAND NETBALL GUIDLINES GLOVES No form of glove should normally be worn when playing Netball. However, EN recognises its responsibility for duty of care to all players playing Netball, particularly outside and within schools and junior competition. In extreme weather or climatic conditions, or with a medical condition, gloves may be worn. If for medical reasons gloves are required, then on production of an appropriate medical certificate/letter, a local league, County, Region or England Netball should allow gloves to be worn. The player should ensure that the material worn does not endanger other player s safety and the player must ensure that they have appropriate personal liability insurance. Gloves should be plain, soft leather or micro fibre (E.g. Neoprene) which are manufactured without seams (or with internally sewn seams) and have no abrasive materials including but not limited to zippers, Velcro, metallic or plastic fasteners. Umpires are reminded that they still need to be satisfied that any gloves worn do not present an obvious hazard to other players including Rule which states Fingernails shall be short and smooth.

ENGLAND NETBALL GUIDELINES cont. HEAD COVERINGS The priority must be to encourage increased participation in Netball while being sensitive to climate, religious practices, cultural differences and health and wellbeing issues and with due regard to the safety of all participants. A player may wear a hat / head covering and together with the coach/teacher/parent etc. they should ensure that the material used for the head covering is soft and without embellishments, which might constitute a danger to any other player on the court, and with potential flowing / flapping edges held securely around the neck or tucked into shirt collar. It should be as neat and secure as possible. Headbands that meet the requirements as above should be allowed. Peaked baseball or tennis type caps do not meet the requirements as above and must not be allowed.

ENGLAND NETBALL GUIDELINES cont. JEWELLERY & ADORNMENTS As per the INF Rules and 1.4.4, No item of jewellery, except a wedding ring and/or medical alert bracelet, shall be worn. If either or both are worn, each shall be taped No adornment that may endanger player safety shall be worn. Officials should conduct their pre-match check as per INF Rule It is the individuals responsibility to ensure that they comply with the INF Rules as above and in doing so ensure that their jewellery / adornment is suitably covered with padding/taping as necessary to prevent injury to others. It is recommended that hair should be appropriately tied back whilst participating in Netball and any hair accessory that is used should not pose any risk to any individual. For clarification: Studs and body piercings, watches, bangles, bracelets and any other adornment are not allowed (except as provided for under INF rule and above)

ENGLAND NETBALL GUIDELINES cont. MEDICAL AIDS Players wearing medical aids to protect injury or surgery and who are prepared to take the risk of playing, may take the court provided the medical aid is covered adequately thus presenting no obvious hazard to other players. Such players are advised to ensure that they have appropriate personal liability insurance coverage. Any Medical Aid must be approved by a qualified medical practitioner especially when returning to Netball from injury and have an appropriate medical certificate/letter. The Medical Aid must be of flexible form and not inhibit movement for the individual. The wearing of ankle braces do not apply to these Medical Aid guidelines therefore can be worn.

ENGLAND NETBALL GUIDELINES cont. PREGNANCY England Netball recommends that individuals (player, coach, umpire) if pregnant should only participate with approval from their doctor and not participate beyond the 12th week of pregnancy. Neither England Netball, nor the club will be held liable for any pregnant individual participating in recognised and authorised activity should the expectant mother suffer a miscarriage, permanent damage to herself and/or unborn child as a result of participating. The England Netball Personal Accident cover will not provide any benefit for injury, loss or expense due to pregnancy, childbirth, miscarriage or any consequence thereof. To give two examples: 1. The pregnant player, coach or umpire participates, falls and breaks an arm. Benefit would be paid for the broken arm. 2. The pregnant player, coach or umpire, falls and suffers pregnancy complications which result in hospital treatment. No benefit would be paid. Clarification a pregnant individual may participate should they wish (play/umpire/coach) but will not be insured.

ENGLAND NETBALL GUIDELINES cont. EYEWEAR If a player / coach / official has to wear glasses for medical reasons then she / he is fully insured from an EN point of view. But, if the glasses become damaged due to a Netball accident then these are not insured. Sunglasses should not normally be worn when participating in Netball activities. However, sunglasses may be worn for genuine medical reasons when participating in recognised and authorised EN activities. If sunglasses are required for genuine medical reasons, then an appropriate medical certificate must be supplied to England Netball (or the appropriate league, county or region)
