PRESIDENT S REPORT Well another year has come and gone. Overall, both on and off the field, everyone at Ainslie Park Cricket Club should feel very proud to be involved in a very successful season. ON FIELD: all senior teams played semi-finals 3 Senior teams in Grand Finals 1 Senior Premiership for our 3rds 2 Junior teams in Grand Finals 1 Junior Premiership for our U16s Veterans were undefeated all year 1 Veteran Premiership As a club, we would consider 1 flag as a very good year, however with 3 under our belt 2016/17 was a great year. As I have spoken many times before, success starts at the top, and we have none better than our man Mark Arnot. Gov continues to lead from the front and provides great leadership both on and off the field. Thanks again Gov for another successful campaign and hope to see many more in the coming seasons. To all our captains, Karl, Pee, Lukey Bullen, Paul Moulton and Sykesy, thank you. Special thanks to Paul Moulton in his first year as captain; hope you are on board for next season. Congratulations on taking the flag Pee, another one under your belt. Special mention to Colonel, doing what he does so well with selection, qualifications for the lower grades, submitting the results and cleaning the clubrooms thanks Nick and keep up the good work. Of course, Chairman of Selectors, Ox overseeing, reviewing and providing additional support to Gov, Karl and Pee. To Barry Oh, thanks for your support in co-ordinating our Vets. JUNIOR PROGRAM Congratulations to our Under 16s on winning the Premiership. A special mention to our Under 12s making the Grand Final. A big thank you to our coaches: 16s Shane Harrop & Dave Killen 14/1s Gov & Nugget 14/4s Marcus Allan 12s Barry Oh & Mark Francis To all our team managers and scorers a huge thank you. A big thank you to our juniors who volunteer to help run our Milo program each Friday night. To our Junior Co-ordinator again, Adam Stone, another fantastic result, not only running the Juniors, but also overseeing our combined teams with Croydon North which ran ever so smoothly thanks Stoney for a great job. OUR COMMITTEE Vice President Jason Foulis Once again stepped up to the selectors role and provided off field support to our senior teams. (Stiff not to get a game in the 40s premiership side I thought). Secretary Stuart Minetti Thank you, Stu, for giving us another year in this vital role, always on hand to provide support and guidance. Sadly, this is Stu s last year as he is having a very well earned rest. From all of us a huge thank you for the 25+ years of service. Treasurer Sean Minetti Thanks Karl for all your contributions this year and providing relief for your Dad who performed dual roles previously. Thanks Karl for streamlining and providing accurate information as always. 8

PRESIDENT S REPORT CONT. Players rep Trent Sier Thanks Ship for another big year both on and off the field, and in particular in organising our very successful Comedy Night. Vets Co-ordinator Andrew Johnstone Another successful year with Vets and coaching our Under 12 Grand Final side. Junior Co-ordinator Adam Stone OFF FIELD Thursday nights We are as always extremely grateful to Killer and Swampy for our great meals. Thank you, gentlemen. To our new Bar Manager, Abba, thanks for all your contributions throughout the entire season This all important job takes time and commitment. To Abba a big thank you. Our Purchasing Officer Matt Thomas. Thanks for all your support and also to you and Sarah for our wonderful Christmas Party. To our Canteen Manager, my wife Carol thank you for your commitment. Constantly studying the deals on cans of coke and making up lolly bags to ensure a successful operation. Special mention to Trish Johnstone, Carolyn Francis and Killer for operating the canteen on Friday nights. Pink Stumps Day one of the greatest fundraisers the club has been involved in. A wonderful initiative by our ladies, many long hours was rewarded with raising $5800 for the McGrath Foundation. To Mossy working behind the scenes club apparel, sending news items, working in the canteen and staying involved where required. Thanks Al. To Josh White thanks for keeping us up to date on social media. Special thanks to Garry Walles for purchasing the afternoon teas each week and to the many helpers who volunteered to make the arvo teas. I read last year s report and I went out on a limb and made the big call regarding our new scoreboard. Construction of the scoreboard finally commenced in late March. Again, happy to announce Len Bettess will be working closely with Alan Miller from ERJFC regarding our clubrooms and we remain on the radar. (I said that last year also). To all, please don t hesitate to put your hand up and help in any way you can. Many hands make light work. Many hands make a great club. It is our aim to remain a totally unified club and ensure long term success. Behind the scenes, Tacka as always, Christmas party, Presentation Night and Clubrooms coordinator thank you. Special mention to David Ruffolo who provided a great initiative at the commencement of the season our player sponsor program was very successful in raising approx. $8,000 for the club. Thanks Doc. Enjoy the off season, see you all next season. Dave Dela Delahunty President 9

SECRETARY S REPORT It is with pleasure that I present the 41st Annual Report for the Ainslie Park Cricket Club CHALLENGES GALORE Season 2016/17 has been a mixed-bag on and off the field for our cricket club. As reported by our President, coach and captains, it was quite successful on the field with 3 premierships across our whole club and all 6 Senior teams, 16s and 12s and our Veterans all playing finals. By any measure that is well above average and was also reflected in us winning the RDCA Senior Club Championship. Congratulations to all involved that is needed to produce this level of success. Off the field was very good but we certainly face some challenges in coming years. Our finances took a significant hit as noted in our Treasurer s report due to a number of factors that our club will address to maintain its overall success. The off-field effort required to run a cricket club continues to grow and place ever increasing pressures on the relatively small number of people who volunteer significant time and effort. LIFE MEMBERS It is certainly very pleasing to report the addition of 2 new life members to our life membership roster. Last season saw 2 new life members with outstanding on-field efforts over many decades in complete contrast with this season s additions. Barry Westgarth and Matt Thomas were presented with their well-deserved life membership badges at our Senior Presentation Night. Barry s record is as an 8-year President who presided over significant improvements to our club infrastructure and developed strong and healthy relationships with our local council, politicians and our winter tenant that continue to deliver. Matt Thomas s strengths in maintaining our catering and beverage supplies over many years and his huge efforts in creating and maintaining Senior club statistics are just the latest in a worthy list of services to our club. Our constitution provides basic criteria for potential life members to qualify for nomination. We currently have a number of members who have all comfortably qualified that need to be nominated. It is ultimately up to our membership to make the nominations so that these people can achieve their just recognition. S.A.L.T. One of the major challenges facing our club (like most) is the ongoing transition of key roles, especially leadership, both on and off-field. In recognising this need and an opportunity to further enhance our already healthy club culture, the committee engaged the services of S.A.L.T. Sport and Life Training who work with local sporting clubs to build healthy culture through positive education and responsibility programs. S.A.L.T. has been very successful in football clubs and was now branching out to cricket and we were to be one of the very first At our first session, on a cold and wet early October Tuesday, we had 35 members turn up to identify our club core values and elect an on-field leadership team. It was a highly interactive and successful night. Our on-field leadership team as elected was Mark Arnot, Sean Minetti, Max Moss, Dave Ruffolo, Josh White, Paul Moulton and Jimmy Hunter. This leadership team met later in October, but due to T20 commitments and then the whole Christmas break and family/holiday time over December/ January we were unable to take the program further as planned. It was agreed to continue the program from pre-season 2017/18. I am aware there is some discomfort at the value of this program, especially when we already have a very strong and positive club culture. Apart from the education units yet to be delivered to the whole club (eg. Subjects include Drugs and Alcohol, Safe Use of 10

SECRETARY S REPORT CONT. Social Media, and Vilification and Discrimination), the training and development of our on-field leadership team is critical in my view. This team includes four of our younger future leaders who can benefit so much from the formal program S.A.L.T. will deliver. We need to embrace the completion of the first year of its program for our long-term future. It is important to note the Core Values of our club as selected by our membership are: Respect Enjoyment Selflessness Accountability Unity Determination Let us not lose sight of the long-term sustainability of our club through positive and effective training by focusing too much on the short-term and our current successes. THANK YOU Our President s report has already made notable mention of thanks to the many people at our club who put in countless hours of voluntary time that enables so many to simply turn up and practice and play cricket and enjoy the many excellent facilities our club offers. For time and effort our most sincere thanks must go to our President, Dave Dela Delahunty and our Assistant Secretary, Jamie Tacka Davison. Dela has continued his good work in doing his absolute best to keep everything on an even keel, an oftenthankless task and most have little understanding of how challenging and time-consuming this can be. Dave has taken on the role of making our yearly working bee at CPEC as effective as possible and this year we managed nearly 40 people putting in 3 hours of work. That equates to 3 weeks of one person and it showed with the great effort transforming CPEC s gardens. Thank you so much to all who volunteered. Tacka just keeps on keeping on as he has done for so many years now. Apart from his almost every day list of tasks to keep our club functioning, Jamie managed to organise both our Christmas Party and Senior Presentation Nights. No surprises that both went off without a hitch. Every well-run club has its glue binding it all together and Tacka is ours. Thanks mate. Every one of you listed below has made the time and effort and provided their skills and experience to form the fabric of our cricket club that provides so much enjoyment to all. It is guaranteed that I will miss someone when I try to list as many as possible who have made that extra effort. Thank-you so much to all and sundry. ON FIELD AND PLAYER DEVELOPMENT Mark Arnot, Sean Minetti, Andrew Peters, Luke Bullen, Paul Moulton, Dave Sykes, Jason Foulis, Trent Sier, Alan Moss, Andrew Johnstone, Josh White, Adam Stone, Sean Arbuckle, Nick McKenzie, Max Moss, Mark Francis, David Killen, Marcus Allan, Adam Smith and Ethan Stone. 12 SECRETARY S REPORT CONT. Our on-field and off-field efforts and results continue to develop and need to do so. Our game of cricket is facing considerable competition and challenges in the near future to survive as we know it. For our club, that means never-ceasing recruitment into our junior teams, existing club members to take on the roles needed to run the club, our coaching team to work as hard as ever to develop our young talented group whilst still making it enjoyable for our many social cricketers and everyone to back our mantra of club first, team second and individual third. OVER, BUT NOT OUT! As has been well communicated in recent months I am stepping down from any formal ongoing committee role. My first role with our great club was as an Under 12 Team Manager in 1990/91, a mere 27 years ago. Since that introduction to community club cricket I have been fortunate enough to take on a few different roles over the years and work with many, many good people to evolve into today s great club. It has enabled me to make a lot of enduring and meaningful friendships, as have my family. We are fortunate to have strong support from some of our older life members and I intend to do exactly the same thing, including my ongoing role as 1st XI Scorer. With agreement from our next committee, I would like to lead the completion of the S.A.L.T. program and I will continue to mentor any of our members who may consider my advice worthy of consideration. Thanks. As always we are forever seeking even more direct participation by our younger club members to be part of our committee and sub-committees. You are our future. Stuart Minetti Secretary 12

TREASURER S REPORT Whilst the season was an on-field success the club was unable to translate this into a similarly strong financial performance. There are a myriad of reasons for this, some which are within our control and potentially should have been foreseeable and some that were not. Importantly the club is coming from a stable financial base and has been able to absorb another net negative year. On the income side, fundraising proved much tougher to achieve this season with our general sponsorship declining for the second season running. This was offset by the player sponsorship program and I am hopeful this will open new avenues to sponsorship that will be realised in the coming seasons. Other activities which were significant fundraisers in previous seasons (500 Club, Chocolate Drive, Trivia Night) were not replicated. However this is the second year in the last three that the club has recorded a loss in excess of $10,000 (before accounting adjustments) and as such significant measures will need to be implemented next season to ensure this trend does not continue. Specific areas of variance from the previous financial year have been detailed in the notes to the financial statements. From a reporting perspective we made the decision to transfer to an electronic point of sale system. This will be fully implemented next season and will ensure greater controls over the bar and canteen. In light of some of the reporting issues detailed in the notes to the financial statements these controls are a non-negotiable to ensure the viability of operations in future seasons. If you can t measure you can t manage it and that has certainly proven to be the case over the last two seasons. The possibility of early repayment of the Maroondah City Council Deferred Contribution Agreement was raised in last seasons financial report. The committee ultimately made the decision in February that the loan would be paid out at the expense of rolling over the Term Deposit. This represented a better return on investment with current interest rates being what they are. Pleasingly the club is now free of debt however the cash buffer we had with the Term Deposit is gone. A goal of the coming season must be to restore our cash buffer especially with a view to the future working capital requirements and cash reserves required for proposed capital works. The bar and canteen have always been the major source of cash generation throughout the season. Unfortunately we saw a decline in turnover and an increase in cost of goods. With a reduced gross profit margin on top of the drop in turnover our bar and canteen pricing must be overhauled. Membership fees were down on the previous season. Whilst the vast majority of our membership base understand their responsibility to pay their fees in full and on time there are a small percentage that do not. As a club we have always strived to maintain affordable fees with all home and away season costs (including balls, teas and umpires) covered by one annual fee. As our costs of fielding teams increases we will both need to raise annual fees and implement measures to ensure full and timely payment. On the expense side, Administration costs were consistent with the previous season. Our playing costs increased due to additional training, coaching, ball and umpiring expenditure. I cannot foresee any significant cost savings next season only reinforcing the need to address our income generating activities. Sincere thanks to Garry Walles who stepped in to take responsibility for cash management whilst I was away. Also to Carol Delahunty for her diligent cash counting and record keeping of canteen revenues. And of course to my wife, Andrea who assisted with cash management throughout the season and without whose assistance the responsibilities of Treasurer would have felt far greater. Sean Minetti Treasurer 13

SENIORCOMP 2 016/17

COACH S REPORT I have been blessed to have come to a club at such a time as I have. We are currently reaping the rewards of a well collated and well organised junior program that has now produced a number of young players who are stepping it up in the higher ranks of the senior club. Coupled with a collection of veterans and long-time members through the ranks has made us the power house club that we are striving for. We have been in the top 6 club champions of the RDCA for the last 6 years and share the top with the likes of other strong clubs like Ringwood North and Wonga Park. There is no secret formula to this and there is no single reason why we have become what we have. CLUB > TEAM > INDIVIDUAL A Club First mentality is inclusive of every player at the club and assumes the off-field position of the individuals in the lowest graded teams are treated with the same respect and inclusion as the 1st XI players. A Club First value ensures a Club strives to make itself better by making its members better. In turn, it s members understand that if the individual betters himself, then the club is better. When this principle is believed, followed and continually reinforced by all of its members, the results generally speak for themselves. We are only just beginning to see what can be done. At last season s presentation night, I spoke as a coach knowing what could be achieved but a little unsure about exactly when we might see us evolve into this powerhouse, particularly in the higher XIs. I urged everyone to stand up again next year, as I always do, and get this juggernaut moving. I knew we had it in us. I also knew the personnel that were going to be needed to get this thing from good to extraordinary. I stand before the Club again at the end of my 7th season at AP and can truly say we are now in the era where we need to make hay while the sun shines and capitalise on what could be an era of success in the RDCA as seen by the clubs of yesteryear Croydon North and Mooroolbark. We have the youth, talent, experience, morale and most of all support from our committee. Now it is up to us. Reaching this level is not an achievement it s merely the arrival on the big stage. Game starts now. This push, although culminates ultimately into a 1st XI flag, the hard work comes from every player at AP. From the junior 10s to the 6s to the 1s. We must push higher for spots. We have to put pressure on players playing higher. We need those who dream of playing higher to work their tails off to achieve and on the other hand we need those mature players to play their part in the lower XIs to blood our youth, push them to succeed and teach them as much as possible. Those not moving up must be able to offer something to help us build. I thank you all for the support this year, and I am truly grateful and humbled I am chosen to lead this club on the field. I was truly heartbroken (more than I thought I d be) when we lost the 1st XI grand final. I wanted nothing more than to stand before you all and say it s ours. I felt that the fairy tale would come true. The competition hit us with swift foot to the backside and we were reminded where we stand. Close, but not far away. This doesn t stop my hunger. In fact, it makes me hungrier now that I know we can do it. I hope you are all with me again and I hope the hurt has taught you that nothing just happens. We saddle up again, we know what s at stake, we have expectations on ourselves to contribute more and we make an effort to keep the fire burning. I thank the following people whose constant assistance allowed me to continue as coach: Narelle, Bailey, Kye, Millie Summer wouldn t be the same without dad missing. Thanks for supporting me, and being involved in my second love! 22

COACH S REPORT CONT. All of the APCC captains this year: Karl, Pea, Lukey, Paul and Sykesy. Your guidance and management of players has been brilliant. Our ranking in the club championship again represents the ability to manage all XIs to the highest standard and you are to thank for this. Keep preparing the boys to play in the highest XI possible and our culture of success will continue. Leigh Jones Assistant Coach. Always a wise head and a perfect inclusion to the AP Family. We have embraced both Leigh and his brother Evan into the club and can finally say that this recruitment exercise has worked a treat!! We also welcome Nicole into the AP clan and thank you for the support this year. Alan Moss Nets captain and competition analysis. Max Moss Every training session, every game day Maxy strives to help everyone. We are better because of you Max. Big Ship Unwavering support. Would ve loved to have won the flag for you mate! Delas, Stu and the committee thanks again for believing in me. David Killen Always helping with set up and training. Mark Gov Arnot Senior Coach 23

TROLLOPE SHIELD (1ST XI) It is going to take some effort on my behalf to reflect beyond the heartbreaking result of our final game and summarise a season from a holistic point of view. A season that was in every way positive and a season Ainslie Park took a massive step forwards. With the changing format of the top RDCA grades next season, it meant that three teams in Trollope would be relegated to the lower grade to make way for an 8 team competition. This meant that teams finishing 8th, 9th and 10th would be relegated. As we finished 8th last year the prospect of relegation was very real. Avoiding this was my main focus before Christmas and it wasn t until Evan Jones rightly pointed out to us that our focus should not only be to not worry about relegation, but to consider finals a realistic opportunity. Our start to the season was shaky at best. Beating the undermanned Lilydale at home was no indicator to our position in the competition. We were then thrashed by Warrandyte in round 2 followed by a wash out game against Norwood with our backs against the wall at 2/16 chasing 190. With one win, one loss and one draw on the board the season s future would lie in the next three winnable games before Christmas. If we were to avoid relegation, then these games were a must. Round 4 we rolled Bayswater Park: Young blokes all stood up. Jake went house hunting. Round 5 we accounted for Warranwood: Simple team effort. Leeroy 5Fa. Round 8 we broke Wanny South at theirs. Round 9 we saw the back of Templeton for a few years. Round 10 got done by Lilydale s full squad. Let ourselves down with dropped catches. Round 11 lost a good one-day game against Wanny South whose bats were starting to look dangerous. So, thus completed the home and away rounds at seven wins, three losses and one draw. This put us in third spot on the ladder with a home final against the grinding monotony of the North Ringwood plodders. Good result... Elimination Final: Again, had North Ringwood s measure and we took great pleasure in seeing them internally disintegrate. Preliminary Final: After an unconvincing batting effort by AP, four of Lilydale s bats clocked off early on day one and on day two decided a second quarry was needed and proceeded to dig a large hole they just couldn t get out of. Grand Final: Making a solid 233 off our 80 overs and seeing some young players in the likes of Killen and Bettess stand up when it counts, the total seemed insignificant to the runs compiled by Wantirna South the next day. Unfortunately, we had no answer to stop what became a smashing after Tea. Season over. Round 6 we rose from the dead against South Croydon: Maxy tons up. So at Christmas we were and sitting in the 4. Belief was good although still had a tough draw to the end. A couple of wins could secure us a final. Round 7 we suffocated North Ringwood: Giddy up. With the sting of losing the Big Dance subsiding I look back on what was one of the most fun seasons I have had in my cricket career. One that I truly hope we can add to next season. We all clicked together as mates and we all knew what we brought to the table in the team. I have no doubt that this collective of the 14 or so players who played ones in 2017 have what it takes to get what we truly deserve the chance to play and the chance to win the big one. 24

TROLLOPE SHIELD (1ST XI) CONT. The simple fact is that we, as a team, are getting better. Perhaps besides a few of us older folks, the rest are only just getting started. We are yet to see the true potential of this team. Not by a long shot! Personally, thanks to all the boys this year!! I ve had a ball and it s been a privilege to lead you onto the field every week. I ve loved every minute of it. To Ship and Leeroy: Thanks for the advice, support and friendship. We will win it. I would have loved to have brought it home for you, but it wasn t to be. Your observations, advice and unwavering support for all the boys doesn t go unnoticed, and I hope you feel as much a part of the 1st XI as any player in the firsts because you are. To the Committee: Thanks for the support again this season. Knowing I am backed 100% to implement and execute a plan each season gives me great confidence in what we are doing and where this club is going. Finally, to the young squad of 1st XI players Davey, Maxy, Dills, Joshy, Whitey, Jakey, Row and Jezza. You now know what you can achieve in the top grade. I ve watched it over the last three seasons grow as you have become more confident. It s time now to take this competition on with zero fear. We can beat every team and have beaten every team. The opportunity is there for us. I love this cricket club. Everything about it points to success as people, as cricketers and as clubmen. I urge everyone to celebrate another great season together and continue to take the time and effort this club needs to keep it great. A Great Club is great because of its people. Not because of its success. Success is the reward. To Stu: Thanks again for being scorer this year. See you next season!! Mark Gov Arnot 1st XI Captain 25

NEWEY PLATE (2ND XI) The team was promoted to Newey Plate this season on the back of last season s Grand Final appearance. This represented a great challenge, as we experienced significant turnover in the playing list from the previous season. Importantly the team rose to this challenge and performed impressively throughout. The team was positioned in the top four for the entirety of the season, which included sitting top of the ladder for a large portion of the season before eventually being eliminated in the Preliminary Final. This was a testament to the grit displayed by all players that represented the team throughout the season. There were many times when players had to play hurt so we could field a competitive side, but never did it show in their on-field performance. No game better illustrated the match day character of the team than our win in the Elimination Final against Eastfield s 1st XI. The two games immediately prior to finals had seen our worst performances of the season with both bat and ball. On Day 1 we showed a willingness to work through our form slump and finish with our best batting performance for the season. Day 2 saw us just about out of the game shortly after tea, but we hung together and took our chance when it came to see us record a very satisfying victory. We played 25 different players during the year, which is an extreme number for a 2nd XI. Of that number, only five played ten plus which at once illustrates the challenge of the season and also puts into context how significant an effort it was to play Finals. Of important note was the role David Ruffolo played in our success this season. Whilst he probably didn t have the return on runs he was looking for he never took a backward step in a very difficult role at the top of the order. More important though was David s leadership in my absence. Whilst experiencing major player turnover from week to week, he took charge of the team for 3 games finishing with an unblemished winning record. It s important to note those who made significant contributions to our success. Of the batting, Nathan Croot battled a back injury at various points of the season, but still managed to win a couple of games off his own bat, his positive attitude important around the group. Cale Nelson stood up to expertly keep on a number of occasions and whilst he wasn t quite his usual explosive self with the bat he saved his best effort for the Preliminary Final. Dillon Bettess who bookended his season in the 2nds, is always such a positive and happy force on field. His keeping continues to improve and his batting, particularly early on, showed his best to be above the grade. Rowan Peters showed glimpses of his talent both in the field and with the bat. He will return to his best because of his positive attitude and preparedness to work hard. Will Killen got the benefit of an extended exposure to 2nd XI cricket which, whilst challenging at times, will only benefit him going forward. Our bowlers were disproportionately responsible for our success this season. Five players in particular bore a huge load, bowling between them over 75% of our overs. This in hindsight was definitely a reason for some of the injuries our attack experienced during the year as all five bowlers missed games with injury. Matt Delahunty had an outstanding year, bowling tirelessly throughout, he demanded an extremely high standard of himself as he showed great guile and control to lead our wicket takers. Justin Lawlor for the fourth season in a row helped carry our attack with his unflappable line and length. His ability to bowl long spells and outthink the opposition batsman should not be underestimated. Cameron Hunter opened the bowling for over half the season and whilst his stats understate his contribution, those who played are aware of Cameron s importance to the side. 29

NEWEY PLATE (2ND XI) CONT. Of the multi discipline players, Jimmy Hunter started to fulfil his potential as an allrounder. He made some important late order contributions with the bat, showing the ability to turn over the strike and also be a boundary hitter. His bowling improved significantly, as he bowled perfectly to our game plan and consistently painted just inside the lines. Josh White, much to his own frustration, once again teased us with what he can do with bat and ball. With fitness again holding him back at key junctures, he must find a way to maintain his body across the course of the season in order to fulfil his potential. Thanks to Jason Foulis for his assistance at selection and to the other captains Mark, Andrew, Luke, Paul and Dave for making a sometimes-painful process slightly less so. Particular congratulations to Andrew for skilfully leading the 3rds to the premiership and Mark and Luke for leading their teams to Grand Final appearances. Thanks to Mum and Sheila Killen for scoring all year. You are great representatives of our club and it releases a significant burden on match day knowing it s so perfectly taken care of. Thank you to my wife, Ange, for her continued support. The committee continues to ensure the club is moving in the right direction, which wouldn t be possible without the support shown by all players and the extended Ainslie Park family. Thanks to the coaches, Mark Arnot and in his first season Leigh Jones, both have done a first-class job. I am confident that Ainslie Park will continue to be a safe, positive and caring environment for people of all ages who love their cricket. It s remains an exciting time to be at the club and I look forward to seeing the next generation of members drive the club forward. Sean Karl Minetti 2nd XI Captain 30

A GRADE (3RD XI) As the year started we found ourselves promoted to A grade even though we didn t win the previous year s flag. I was a little apprehensive given on paper we looked to be missing a few good players from the previous season. My outlook didn t improve when after five rounds we were sitting equal last with three losses (including a humiliating batting display against Lilydale) and two washouts. We then managed to turn things around by returning the humiliation to Lilydale in a one day game followed by a narrow one wicket victory against Wantirna South. A loss to Wantirna in the last game before Christmas left us well off the top four. A run of good cricket in the new year saw us comfortably win four in a row and leave us in the position to finish top if we won our last two games. However, a very poor run chase against Wantirna South meant we had to settle for 4th spot with all to play for in the finals. good help from Barry Oh and Nugget had Croydon North all out for 146 when 250+ was on the cards early. After a good start the run chase was shaky at times but crucial partnerships (Dylan Marcus, Will Sharpy and Barry Oh DMac) meant we passed them 7 down. With Barry Oh standing tall at the finish the crumble was avoided. In our second successive Grand Final, a brilliant piece of captaincy (I called Tails) saw us lose the toss and bowl first against Wantirna. Game over! Great spells from Cal G (4-25) and Jordan K (5-16) coupled with a brilliant display from Dyl V (two leg side stumpings that Wantirna are still trying to understand, two catches and a regular stumping) saw them all out for 61. We lost Marcus in the run chase, but a good partnership between Dyl and DMac saw us pass them one down. Dyl with 59 capped off a Man of the Match performance. It s Ours!!!! Before the finals started I now felt we were the best side in the four and if we played good cricket then the flag should be ours. The three finals all displayed different qualities that should make Ainslie Park proud. In the first final playing Lilydale we found ourselves in trouble at 3-22 against easily the best bowling attack we faced all year. Up stepped Coma (who I think had been craving a challenge all year) with a brilliant knock well supported by Sharpy and Barry Oh to see us finish with the very good total Early wickets and a very good even bowling performance saw us comfortably hold Lilydale to 162. Bowling first in the preliminary final we were in a bit of trouble with Croydon North looking very comfortable at With something extra now required we saw two brilliant run outs from Sharpy and a direct hit from Cam H to go with a great spell of bowling that kept things together when Croydon North were on top. A lazy 4-for from Coma with We had 29 players go through the 3 s this year and every one of them contributed in some way to this premiership year. As captain, it was good to know that every player was going to give their best effort and this base ultimately proved vital in some tricky situations in the finals. Our bowling was good all year with Boonie, Cal G, Jordan K and Coma leading the way. Our batting produced the desired results when required with Dyl, Barry O, Sharpy and Marcus. Marcus s results don t look extraordinary on the stat sheet, but his patience and willingness to fight out a tough situation directly resulted in at least three wins that meant we made the finals. In the coming years, I look forward to seeing Cal, Marcus, Sharpy, Tom Wing (impressive two game cameo in the 3s this year), Will, Jordan K and Adam Smithy move above this level and have success in the higher grades. 34

A GRADE (3RD XI) CONT. A big thank you to all the Veteran type players (too numerous to mention individually) who played in the 3s this year providing invaluable experience and class. Finally, a special thank you again this year to the following: Everyone who played this year in the 3rds and helped out with the required tasks at Gracedale before and after the game. Chris Allan and Sheila Killen for scoring in the finals. Coby Arbuckle for being 12th man during the finals. Swampy and Killer for the Thursday night dinners. Carol for running the Canteen and Abba for running the Bar. Mark, Ox, Colonel and all the captains for the time and effort to maintain our on-field performances and standards. The Club Committee for doing the hard work behind the scenes that is required to keep the club running. See you all next season. Andrew P Peters 3rd XI Captain 35

D GRADE (4TH XI) We started the year very well with our first game against the eventual premiers coming down to a final over win against Lilydale. A washout was followed by any easy win to Croydon North. We then went on to win the next 3 games pretty easily before facing South Croydon in a two dayer. They fielded a side that would be more fitting for one of the premier grades in the RDCA. We were always up against it in this game, the fact that the boys not only made this game competitive but stuck it out for 126 overs was exceptional. The heart and never give up attitude the team gave left me feeling confident that we d have a pretty good year. Three more wins followed and then a pretty disappointing loss to bottom of the ladder South Warrandyte. The final round was played against Lilydale s 3rd XI. This was a dead rubber as 1st played 2nd with the outcome always to be that we would meet again the following week in the Qualifying Final. I think in this game we all had the feeling that next week was the important one and we played a bit distracted and didn t get the result we were hoping for. Then came finals. Firstly, Lilydale away with a bit of feeling between the two teams created a very competitive game. They batted first and put on 221, going into the second day. We were never really in the hunt losing wickets consistently with John Ridley (47) probably the only shining light in this game. Next came Wonga Park at Ainslie Park. We batted ok and were bowled out for 132 in the 63rd over. A score we knew was competitive after watching the ones defend less on the same ground the week before. We had seven overs to bowl and they finished the day at 1/8. Coming into the second day we knew we had to play our best cricket as a team to defend a small score against some handy opposition, and we did! Ryan Willmott bowled from one end for the whole day tearing the final apart finishing with 8/54 from 19.4 overs. He was well supported from the other bowlers at the other end and we bowled them out for 102 from 39.4 overs. Special thanks to Gov for some pretty handy advice in coming up with a bowling plan to defend a small score on a ground he obviously played a lot of cricket on. The Grand Final was next and after winning the toss we batted and started perfectly. 2/102 at the tea break. After tea we had a significant collapse and ended up 8/119. Ian Cubitt and Ryan Willmott came together for a partnership of forty which was desperately needed. We ended up all out in the last over with 159 on the board. Excellent contributions from Tom Wing 40, Nick McKenzie 31, Ryan Willmott 19, and Ian Cubitt 20. Coming into the second day we were confident we had enough runs. At tea they were 5/100. Game on. The next five overs after tea were crucial, we bowled well but had no luck whatsoever. The boys played their hearts out till the last ball but they finished 5/162 from 59.3 overs. A few player highlights during the season were: Mark Francis first game of the year hitting a ton in the first 25 overs of the game against the eventual premiers. Troy Harris opening the batting against Kilsyth and also bringing up a ton with the team score on 1/122. Tom Wing taking 3/9 and then 63 with the bat against South Warrandyte. John Ridley having an awesome year batting at no 3 averaging 34.5 and making 379 runs for the season. Ryan Willmott taking 41 wickets, winning the grade bowling average and the Bolt medal. On his way to doing this had games of 5/26 from 17 v Croydon North, 7/17 from 26 v South Croydon and 8/54 from 19 v Wonga Park in the prelim final. 39

D GRADE (4TH XI) CONT. I m so proud of the season we had together and fought it out as a team for the whole season. As hard as it was losing the GF, for a group of blokes to come together and stick it out as we did says a lot about the mateship and determination of this group. I d like to make mention of the attitude of the guys that missed out on the final side was exceptional. These guys were there to support us in our loss to Lilydale and were a big part of getting us there in the first place. Thanks to the whole side for making this a great team to be a part of. Last of all I d like to thank all of the people that make this club a great place. The committee, selection committee, coaching staff and supporters. Also the massive group of people doing hard work behind the scenes that make this the best club in the RDCA. Bring on next year! Luke Bullen 4th XI Captain 40

G GRADE (5TH XI) This season was my 4th cricket season and first as Captain. I was honoured to be considered as captain of the 5ths and decided to take it on after much consideration and advice from other former captain s. In the semi-final, we played three 14-year-old young men. Coby Arbuckle, Jayden Wright and Bailey Arnot. Throughout the season, I had a 16-year-old, Matt (mini) Barr playing in the 5ths until Sykesy stole him from me. I had the honour to watch, captain these four young men who, I have no doubt will be champions of Ainslie Park Cricket Club. After round 6, we had two games abandoned, won one and had three loses. This included two batting collapses and were bottom of the ladder. At this point, I wondered if I had made the right decision. I would like to thank all the players that played in the 5ths throughout the season. You all contributed to a good season. We had Josh Fox ton up and Matt Thomas take 6 for 9. Round 7 we played top of the ladder, Scoresby 3s. We had a couple of handy recruits for this game and I went into the game with a belief of winning. We were in a little bit of trouble at the split but, thanks to a statesman s batting performance from Sir Chris Allan, we got up and won. This was a turning point for me and one of many highlights for season 16/17. The rest of the season was up and down with winning/losing however, I was so proud that as a team, we made it into the finals. Another highlight. We played Scoresby in a semi-final and unfortunately, we lost. However, once again I was very proud to lead the team on the field and believe we gave it our all. A special thanks goes out to David Wright, Phil Moore and Matt Thomas. I do appreciate all the on field advice even at times when I didn t want to hear it. You three guys were my rock and I couldn t have done it without you so, thank you. Once again, it has been an honour and a privilege to be Captain and lead a great bunch of old, middle aged and young men onto the field. We had a good year and I look forward to great success on and off the field in season 17/18. Paul Moulton 5th XI Captain 44

I GRADE (6TH XI) Our performance this year was a distinct improvement over season : second on the ladder instead of second last. Apart from the dominant Croydon North 4th XI the competition was very even in I Grade. We won five and lost five in the regular season. Strong before Christmas but faltering in January, we managed a win in the last one-dayer and the right results at other grounds saw us host a semi-final. We fell at that hurdle against a strengthened Warrandyte, but a number of players gave a strong account of themselves in the loss and we finished with our heads held high. The season started with a bang on the tiny ground at Warrandyte, with a dashing 53no from Gaz and in Bailey Arnot s first senior game he made an immediate impact with 3/26. The next two losses against the top side confirmed our suspicions that we couldn t hold on to Tommy Wing in the 6ths any longer. First, he made a classy 92 in the two-dayer (including a great 70+ run partnership with Coby Arbuckle), then took 3/25 in the one-dayer and he was off to the fourths and beyond. Our fourth game of the year was in Round 7 (thanks to wash-outs and byes) against the Baptists: Coby shared another great partnership of almost 100 with his skipper; Mat Pater took his first wicket for the club and finished with 2-for; and the Delahunty combination came through. Dela Snr smashed a quick forty-odd with a few maximums and young Nicko won the game for us with two set bats in and only fifty to win, the leggie removed them both and then one more to finish up with 3/22. Nick took a wicket in nearly every game he played and finished as the leading wicket taker for the year. opening partnership and Dave Parko Parkinson showed us his first display of power hitting for the year in a (very) quick 56.Two more of our 5ths imports starred as well two wickets each for Paul Moulton and for Phil Moore. After Christmas, we did struggle. We couldn t beat the bottom side in a one-dayer, but we did see 50 on debut from Heath Richards, and a brilliant economical spell from Jayden Jaydog Wright on the little Allambanan ground. Brad Shorney unleashed some big-hitting at the end of the innings a harbinger of things to come in later rounds. (Time-out here to mention the contribution of Tim Flahavin this season. Tim was very consistent with the bat, rarely failing to give us a handy 20 or 30. He took the gloves when required, and held some key catches with them and without. A quiet achiever, but a pivotal figure in our progress.) At Warrandyte again in Round 11 we saw a classy 53no from Bluey and Brad hit the ball about twice the length of the boundary to finish the game off with 24no. In Round 12 we failed to replicate our earlier win against Wonga despite a fighting 63 from Chris Allan and some tight bowling from Rick Forster. Chris starred again with 75 in our next loss against the Baptists. Nathan Duggie Dugdale bowled his most controlled and mature spell of off-spin yet but our strike weapon was Jack Marshall: starting with a double-wicket maiden Jack finished with a great 2/22. The last game of the regular season was our most convincing, cruising to an 8-wicket win over St Andrews. Matt Barr bowled a lovely tight spell and some solid top order batting was topped off with more sixes in Parko s rapid 37no. Last game before Christmas we were boosted by some freelance 5ths players for a win over Wonga. Gaz and Wrighty gave us a great start with a 120+ And that brings us to that semi-final. We were outclassed by Warrandyte. Even if they hadn t brought two blokes straight down from C Grade we might not have got past them. 49

I GRADE (6TH XI) CONT. As was our weakness throughout the year we just lacked for penetrative bowling. We only took three wickets and they went to the steady rather than the attacking bowlers with two to Mat Pater in another very solid performance. It has been great this year to see his transformation from sometime bowler to economical specialist. We struggled early with the bat and it looked like it might be all over on day one until Mat had a go with the bat, including a stunning six over backward point, and then the Parkinson/Shorney clan took over. Parko as usual drew gasps from the opposition with the sheer power and audacity of his strokeplay in a rapid 43, but Brad was the cleaner hitter on the day. After starting with two singles he swung through the line for seven sixes between long on and long off, finishing with 44no. In the end, it wasn t enough as Warrandyte chased our 179 easily on day two but it sure was good to watch and it lifted our spirits in a disappointing loss. Even more disappointing for me as I was injured on day one and couldn t lead the side on the field for the last rites of the season, but Dela did a great job stepping in for me. Thanks Pres. I m very proud of the way we played our cricket this year. As a skipper I always try to instil Gov s mantra of club, then team, then individual, and my own values of respect for the game and all the players. This year we really lived it on and off the field. More than one opposing captain and/or senior player congratulated our team on their conduct, and in particular took time to talk with our youngest players and encourage and advise them on their game and development. That s how it should be done at this level. Thanks to all of my team for making me proud of our approach as well as our achievement. A big thank you to Parko for all his contributions this year and in recent years. He says he s hanging up the boots after achieving the ambition of playing finals with his nephew. We ll see about that. Hopefully we can lure him back. He s been a great bloke to have around the team, always pushed himself to the limit for the team (and beyond sometimes). And as a real bonus for a skipper in the lower grades, he is happy to pass the time by umpiring for long spells. And of course, a big thank you to all those others that make the club go round. Thanks to Gov and all the other skippers. Thanks to Mossy for running so many training sessions. (I ve actually been there to see it this year!) Thanks to Ox and to Nick for their help with selection and chasing up numbers for the lower grades. Thanks to the President, Secretary and Treasurer, all those on the committee and the great bunch of men, women and kids all around the club who keep things happening, keep us fed and watered, and make Ainslie Park a fantastic place to be. See you all next season, Dave Sykes 6th XI Captain 50

MASTERS REPORT After a year mixing it up with Box Hill Reporter clubs, we pushed to come back to play local clubs within the RDCA. Unfortunately that left us with only 4 clubs in the RDCA Masters 1st Division, as other sides were unwilling to come up. With only 4 sides in the comp, the top 2 played off in the Grand final at Hughes Park. APCC vs Mooroolbark! Unfortunately we lost our opening bat & 1st change bowler Franga the day before the GF & Nugget a few weeks earlier. The rounds before Christmas involved many s, SMS & phone calls to finally put a side onto the park. Thanks to all the guys who helped make up the sides during the season. We welcomed Harry & Ricky into the vets brotherhood & was also very close to getting the services of the great man Gov. Maybe next year! With Round 1 washed out, our first game was at Ainslie Park vs Croydon. We chased down Croydon 6/171(Gull 2/16 & Damo 2/34) APCC 2/173 with 6 overs left (Franga 32, Cod 45* & Chicken 41*). We next travelled to Mooroolbark & was smashed around the park for 1/234. Franga led the charge with 36, followed by Stoney 45*, Oh 40*, Chicken 43* & Scooter 40*. We replied with 4/247 with 3 overs to spare. Next round was Warranwood at home. The previous two games were tied, but this time round, APCC 5/232 (Franga 40*, Deano 33, Scooter 43* & Oh 40*) def Warranwood 10/96 (Oh 3/4, Gull 2/12 & Damo 2/19). APCC batted first & piled on 8/186 (Deano 43* & Cod 40*). According to one very wise man, our only aim for the whole day was to get Stoney a run! After 3 ducks in previous grand finals, I m happy to say Stoney scored a very quick 17!!! While most of us enjoyed arvo tea, Gull & Damo were in the nets warming up with the ball. Whatever they did seemed to work as Gull ripped the stumps out on his first delivery & then trapped the other opener LBW on his 5th ball. He grabbed more wickets in his 2nd, 3rd & 5th overs, finishing off with 5/7 off 5 overs after straining his groin due to tight Lederhosen under his whites. Damo bowled an unbelievable 6 maidens, with a wicket in his 2nd over ending the day 1/0 off 6. This great start had Mooroolbark reeling 1/0, 2/1, 3/1, 4/3, 5/4, 6/8 & in an unwinnable position. Coma 1/7 & Stoney 2/0 also chipped in with the ball. There was also a run out, but consensus by all was that it should have been a catch lol! Mooroolbark never recovered & were all out for 45 in the 25th over. After Christmas we came up against Mooroolbark at home. This time we restricted them to 8/141 (Nugget 3/18 & Stoney 3/30). We came out & belted 6/147 with 9 overs spare (Franga 43* & Stoney 38). Due to possible storms, we played Croydon at Ainslie again. Croydon made 6/134 (Nugget 2/12 & Coma 2/20). APCC were 4/136 off only 28 overs (Franga 39, Abba 41 & Deano 29*). Due to the last round being played in very wet conditions at Warranwood we played a 20/20. APCC put on 4/163 (Franga 30*, Stoney 30*, Deano 33* & Harry 24* which included a couple of monstrous 6 s). We restricted Warranwood to 9/99 (The Finisher 2/9, Ricky 2/12). Thanks to Tacka for scoring on the big day, as well as Derrick & Nugget earlier in the season. Great to have all the family & friends back to Ainslie after such a great win! Hopefully we can get more back during next season. We went through undefeated during the season, but the highlight was the awesome result in the Grand Final. Thanks to all the player support during the year. It s very humbling to captain blokes who have played in so many 1st eleven sides over the years. Andrew Oh Johnstone Vets Captain 71

JUNIORCOMP 2 016/17

JUNIORS REPORT This season started off differently to previous years, as it was decided to combine some of our junior teams with the Croydon North Cricket Club. Combining the Under 16s, 14s and 10s was due to several reasons including lack of numbers at both clubs, but also to provide development teams and maximise the ability of our players so they could perform at the correct level. This brought about a few teething issues with coaching, grounds, club uniforms and so on, but after the initial issues everyone seemed to settle into the season. I would like to thank Karen Witchell and the coaches, committee and parents at Croydon North for all their work and support throughout the year. The season saw one premiership, a runner up and improving efforts from all sides. We look forward to continuing the development and improvement from all our juniors in their cricketing abilities next season. SUMMARY Ainslie Park Cricket Club was able to continue its steady numbers in the junior programme this season, however the decision to merge some of the teams with Croydon North Cricket Club to give our players the best chance to play at standards that suited their abilities, thus allowing all the boys to play each week and improve. We had Under 16-2, Under 14-1 and Under 14-4, Under 12-2, Under 10, and a stronger Milo programme this season. A huge thank you to all our Volunteer Coaches and Team Managers. It takes up a massive amount of time and effort leaving work early, organising players, game days and nights, helping around the club, setting up of grounds along with actually coaching and improving the kids skills. One of the success stories this season, outside the premiership was the development of the Milo in2cricket programme, especially the way the Adam Smith and the Under 14 players assisted and ran the programme. I know all the Milo kids loved the attention and teaching they received, and we can only improve on this further next season. We had several players make Representative teams this season. A great effort from these boys, but also a great effort from their parents; as many of these had been training for a long time prior to the season starting, including extra sessions and games throughout the year, especially over holiday periods. Well done to all involved. Our Representative players this season where: Coby Arbuckle - Outer East Eagles Rep U/14 Matthew Barr - JC Craig Under 15 East Group Jordan Blair - JC Craig Under 15 East Group Matthew Mountain - Russell Allen Shield U/14 Bailey Arnot - Des Nolan Cup U/14 Will Killen - Phil Arnold U18 Shield The season had its successes on the field, with two sides making the finals. The Under 16-2 won the premiership, in a nail biting game. The Under 14-1 side made the Grand Final of the T20 Competition, only to fall short on the night and finish Runners Up. The Under 12-2 side again made the grand final, once again against St. Andrews; but unfortunately, were unable to claim the elusive flag. All our players and teams improved throughout the year, with many of them posting great results against teams above them on the ladder, but more importantly individual results across the age levels continued to improve, from all our players. Well done to these boys on their results throughout the season. COACHES & TEAM MANAGERS The coaches and team managers for the 2016/2017 season were: TEAM COACH MANAGER U16-2 S. Harrop/D. Killen Leeanne Hounsell U14-1 M.Arnot/S.Arbuckle Adam Stone U14-4 Marcus Allan Karen Witchell U12/2 Andrew Johnstone Ross Pigdon U10 Brad Lalor Mandy Goodwin Milo Adam Stone 74

JUNIORS REPORT We would like to thank these coaches and team managers for their time commitment and efforts with the Ainslie Park/Croydon North juniors throughout the season. Thanks also to all the parents and senior players who helped the coaches and the teams in so many ways during training and/or games. Milo in2cricket This season we again ran the Milo in2cricket on Friday nights. We changed things up a bit, and utilised the net area which proved to be a great decision. It allowed us to concentrate on the players in a more controlled environment, and make sure we weren t chasing balls down hills etc. We did venture out onto the main ground when there were no Under 12 games, allowing the Milo kids the chance to play games on the real ground. A huge thank you to Ethan Stone and Adam Smith for running the Milo programme this season. These two boys made sure they were there for nearly every session they could, and developed great relationships with all the Milo kids. I would also like to thank all the Under 14 and 16 players who gave up their time on Friday nights to help. It was very much appreciated. A big thank you to all the parents and grandparents who assisted with the Milo cricket program and participated with their children. We hope that all the Milo participants had fun, and learnt some cricket skills along the way, and continue onto our Under 10 programme. We have a great group of families and it was wonderful to see some of our senior players bringing along their children to continue the tradition of playing cricket with Ainslie Park. Chiraag Deepak Xavier Hollyman Kento Inoue Rafe Klewer Benjamin Warren Lenny Matthews Chelsea Thomas Emma Lamont Jayden Bullen Mahaylia Matthews Rianna Davison Rhys Law Archer Croot UNDER 10 BLUE This season we had a number of players that graduated from the Milo ranks and took up positions in the Under 10 non-comp team. This side was combined with Croydon North, and I would particularly like to thank Mandy Goodwin for being Team Manager, and Karen and Phil Lovell for making sure all of the kids were able to play each week. I am sure all the players will continue to develop their skills further, and next season we are hoping to have a stand-alone Under 10 side. Well done to all those involved in developing these players and grooming them into future superstars. UNDER 12/2 This season we had a mixture of second year Under 12 players from last year s runners up side, and several players who came up from the 12-5s or Under 10s. The boys were coached by Andrew Johnstone (OH) and the Team Manager was Ross Pigdon. A big thank you to these two, along with special mentions to Mark Francis and all the other parents who assisted them throughout the year. Stay tuned for big announcements regarding Milo for next season. This season s players were: Anuraagh Deepak The 12/2s had a fantastic season, with a mixture of wins and losses and finishing 4th on the Ladder. The 12/2s won their Semi Final against the undefeated Templeton convincingly, facing St. Andrews in the Grand Final at St. Andrews. 75

JUNIORS REPORT The Grand Final unfortunately didn t go the way the boys expected. They gave a valiant effort against a bigger and more experienced side. It just hurts to lose to the same side two years in a row. Anyway, I am sure the boys that are again playing in the 12s next season will make sure the results are different, and they will bring home the flag. A big mention to Keiffer Just who in Round 5 took a hat-trick against Lilydale. A fantastic effort Keiffer, well done. Congratulations to the following boys on their awards for this season: Ben Speith - Batting Award James Johnstone - Bowling Award Lachlan Francis Fielding Award Lithika Dharmasena Coaches Award Taj Johnstone Best Finals Player UNDER 14/1 The Under 14/1 side this year was a combined side with Croydon North. The Coaches this season where Mark Arnot and Sean Arbuckle thank you to both club legends on all the time and effort they put in this season. The side was made up of a group of 13 players, who all managed to at least get a bat or bowl each game. As the 14/1 comp is not split innings - it really tested the boy s concentration this season, especially when you must bowl for the full 50 overs on a Saturday morning. I would like to thank the Croydon North players who joined us this season: - Gilbert Harries who was voted captain by his team mates, Finlay Nanscawen and Harry Rattray. These boys gelled extremely well with the Ainslie boys, and it was a testament to the attitude of all the boys and the parents to make this such an enjoyable team to watch on and off the field this season. The 14/1s started the season with a bit of uncertainty, as players were trying to find their feet and understand each other s games. After dropping some close games early in the season, the boys finally clicked and started winning, not only against the lower sides, but beating both top sides and narrowly losing to the eventual premiership side. There were some great individual efforts throughout the season, with every single player contributing. The Under 14/1s also played the T20 comp this season, and went through all of the rounds undefeated. A great effort by all the boys, and in the grand final against Mooroolbark unfortunately we fell short. Hopefully they will learn from this and continue to mature when times get tough out in the middle and overcome any nerves they may have. Great Effort boys. Congratulations to the following boys on their awards this season: Gilbert Harries Batting Award Ethan Stone Bowling Award Coby Arbuckle Fielding Award Trent Seegets Coaches Award Bailey Arnot Best T20 Player UNDER 14/4 The Under 14/4 side this year was a combined side with Croydon North. The Coaches this season where Marcus Allen, Gary and Andrew from Croydon North, and the Team Manager Karen Witchell thank you to all of you for your time and effort this season. Particularly Karen as she also had the mantle of Junior Co-Ordinator at CNCC, and had many issues with players unavailable this season. The side was made up of mainly first year Under 14s, and assisted by several players from Under 12 ranks. The 14-4 s had a massive learning curve right from the first game. They were comprehensively beaten in the first few rounds, but as the season went on the boys continued to improve. This side was always set as a development squad so that these boys would improve their skills and next season they would be ready to take on the older boys in the higher grades of the Under 14 comp. Well done to all the boys who played in this side all season. 76

JUNIORS REPORT Also, a big thank you to all the parents from both Ainslie Park and Croydon North who assisted throughout the season, whether that be scoring, ground set up and getting the boys to the grounds and training. Congratulations to the following boys on their awards this season: Jackson McIntosh - Batting Award James Johnstone - Bowling Award - Average Blake Payne - Fielding Award James Crockett - Coaches Award UNDER 16/2 The Under 16-2 side this season was again a merged side with Croydon North. Shane Harrop was appointed coach and was assisted by David Killen. Shane has a great track record of Under 16 premierships, and this season again was no exception. Shane and David were able to bring a mixture of boys together, and after some gelling issues made sure these boys stuck to the team values and improved throughout the season. A big thank you to Leeanne Hounsell who was the team manager for the Under 16s, a fantastic job well done. The 16s ended up 2nd on the ladder at the end of the regular season, which was a great effort considering the season was so close with the top four sides all separated by less than two games. The semi-final was played against Warrandyte at the boys convincingly beat them, moving into the Grand Final against Lilydale who finished on top at Lilydale. The grand final was a tough fought game, with APCC/CNCC batting first and posting a very respectable 143 on the first day. As we know nerves play a big part in finals games, and some of the boys who hadn t contributed as much throughout the season stepped up on Grand Final day and made valuable runs. The second day saw Lilydale get off to a great start, and at the break they were in a strong position. However, the APCC/CNCC boys stuck to their team values and structures, and started taking wickets and turning the pressure onto Lilydale. When the final wicket fell Lilydale were all out for 136 and the boys had achieved a well-deserved Premiership victory. There were some fantastic efforts by individuals throughout the season and special mentions need to go to Klayton Hughes who made four tons throughout the season. Klayton was also captain and led from the front well done. Luke Yeomanson was able to claim a hat-trick in Round 8 great effort Luke. Well done to all the boys for a great season, and a massive thank you to the efforts of Shane, David, Leeanne and all the parents involved with the Under 16s. ITS OURS Congratulations to the following boys on their awards this season: Klayton Hughes - Batting Award Luke Yeomanson - Bowling Award George Harries - Fielding Award Jordan Blair - Coaches Award George Harries - Best T20 Player Klayton Hughes - Best Finals Player Luke Yeomanson - Most Promising player to leave U/16 s CONCLUSION Well done to all the award winners, especially Jimmy Johnstone who managed to win the Junior Club Champion from the Under 12 s. Great effort considering they face less balls and bowl less overs than the older grades. Every player who played for Ainslie Park this season deserves an award, as every one of the boys and girls competed with a fantastic attitude and sportsmanship. It is a credit to all the coaches and input from the senior club that these boys and girls continue to lead by example, on and off the field. 77

JUNIORS REPORT I would like to thank every single parent involved with Ainslie Park Junior Cricket Club. Without your effort and support, then none of us would get the enjoyment of watching our kids develop their cricketing, personal and team skills. A huge thank you must go out to all the coaches and team managers, it is a voluntary job coaching kids sport, and for the number of hours you give up over the season it is truly remarkable. I would like to thank the committee and those that I called on throughout the year to help when I couldn t get to the club. Thank you everyone for your support this year and we look forward to seeing you back next season. Adam Stone Junior Co-Ordinator 78
