7 PRESIDENT S REPORT The ultimate sustainable success of any sporting club is its people. This season we were extremely fortunate to have so many people other than the committee putting their hands up and carry out the seemingly little but all-important tasks that make the club tick. THANK YOU TO THE COMMITTEE: Jason Foulis (Ox) Dual roles as Vice President and Chairman of Selectors. Andrew Johnstone (Oh) as Secretary is growing into the role and sets up every time. Sean Minetti (Karl) has implemented proper financial practices and our healthy dollar balance indicates his hard work and success. Trent Sier (Ship) always providing support and deals with all player/ committee situations brilliantly. David Ruffolo (Doc) has taken his sponsorship role to another level and always looking for new initiatives. Great young person to have on our committee. Darren Walles (Coma) has taken on the all-important role of Junior Co- Ordinator and delivered a successful program and more importantly long-term success for the club. Karen Ridley is a great new addition to our committee assisting Coma with the Juniors to the extent we will stand alone next year and maintain good numbers. 8 PRESIDENT S REPORT CONT. Special mention to two wonderful people who worked so tirelessly throughout the whole season, shopping, Friday nights, Saturday mornings and afternoons. Also, Thursday night dinners as required. A massive thank you to Clinton and Sheila Killen. A big thank you to all our sponsors and please support them. As mentioned before, thanks to Darren Walles and Karen Ridley, our Junior program is looking extremely healthy. A great initiative this year was the reading of the Junior books once a month on Saturday nights. The number of families attending were beyond our expectations. It was great to meet new parents and Junior players introducing them to the Senior club with the view they will become long term players and supporters due to the family environment we have created. Congratulations to Jimmy Hunter, first year as premiership captain with our 3rd XI. LEN BETTESS Sunday March 11th 2018 was one of the saddest and most emotional days in the club s history with the passing of Len Bettess at the age of 51. Len, along with Allana, were Junior Administrators for five years. In that time, they re-invented and grew the Juniors which had been declining rapidly. Their vision and enthusiasm saw growth which has helped shape our club. Len was a passionate supporter, a constant positive thinker and friend to all at Ainslie Park Cricket Club. The club, with the blessing of the family, have named the Junior Parkers Pride Award after Len, honouring and preserving his memory. Also, we are working to obtain council permission to erect a seat on the Bettess Hill and insert a plaque to further enhance Len s memory and his contribution to our club. Also to Cameron O Donnell and Sean Arbuckle on the Veterans Masters 1 premiership success. To Gov & Leeroy, thank you guys for your commitment and desire. As a club, we must support and encourage your long-term vision, along with hard work and determination I hope we can reward you with long term success and premierships. To Allana, Josh, Dillon, Gemma, Norm, Jan, Ian and Kathy thank you for allowing the club to perpetuate Len s memory. Rest in Peace, Len. Thank you to Carol for once again allowing me the time required. Our captains, Gov, Doc, Jimmy, Bluey and Sykesy, thank you gentlemen for all your efforts and enthusiasm. An initiative that began a number of years ago, is the working bee at Glenallen School for disabled children. This year 40 people attended and achieved a mountain of projects for the school. Thank you to all those who attended, it makes you proud to be involved in a club such as ours. At the end of the day, if I didn t enjoy the role I wouldn t do it. See you all next season. 9 SECRETARY S REPORT It is with pleasure that I present the 42nd Annual Report for the Ainslie Park Cricket Club. NEW CHALLENGE Season 2017/18 was my baptism of fire, after two years as Vets Co-ordinator, I stepped up to become Secretary, having to fill some rather large shoes left by Stuart Minetti at last year s Annual General Meeting. I always admired Stuart for his hard work and knowledge, not only at Ainslie Park, but also as a committee member of the RDCA. Stuart was always ready to lend a guiding hand, as well as club work horse, Assistant Secretary, Jamie Davison, who works tirelessly in the background. This season we welcomed a number of new committee members:- David Ruffolo Sponsorship Manager Darren Walles Junior Co-ordinator Karen Ridley Junior Secretary Sean Arbuckle Veterans Co-ordinator This year the committee had to make the tough decision to only field five senior teams, rather than the six teams of the past two seasons. This was based on the lack of numbers of players that were committed to making themselves available to play every week early in the season. APCC needs everyone to commit to the full season to make our numbers strong once again. APCC was fairly successful on-field this season, with five of the six senior teams progressing through to the finals. Unfortunately, only the 3rd & 4th XIs were able to progress through to the grand finals. The 1st & 2nd XIs were knocked out in the Elimination Final. The 4th XI were unsuccessful in F Grade against Bayswater Park, under the leadership of Glen Bluey Thomas, while the 3rd XI were triumphant against a very strong North Ringwood in A Grade, brilliantly led by James Mango Hunter. Our Masters (Over 40), led by Sean Manager Arbuckle and Captain Cameron Codmandu O Donnell, were able to back up their great win the previous season and win the flag after a well fought tussle against Wonga Park. In the Junior ranks, we had combined teams with Croydon North in 16/2 & 14/1 who were defeated in their respective semi-finals, the 14/4 & 12/2 who both finished 5th, just out of finals contention & the Under 10 and Milo kids who had an awesome time. This year APCC launched two teams into the RDCA Girls League. From all accounts the girls had an absolute blast, celebrating their wickets with cart wheels and flips! Well done to Adam Stone for putting up his hand to get these teams together, as well as the other parents who got behind Stoney and made it such a successful first of many seasons for the girls. Thank you to all the captains and coaches for their hard work this season. Off the field was very good, but as from previous reports, we certainly face some challenges in coming years. The off-field effort required to run a cricket club continues to grow and place ever increasing pressures on the relatively small number of people who volunteer significant time and effort. Our finances vastly improved as noted in our Treasurer s report, partly due to the tireless work of Sheila & Clinton Killen in the canteen. On most Thursday nights cooking dinner, Friday cooking snags and burgers for the Under10/12 and Milo kids and then Saturday mornings providing bacon & eggs with a coffee to wash it down. They also made the afternoon teas for the seniors and manned the canteen all day with the occasional Saturday night meal. They will be sorely missed if they relocate north as planned. 9

10 SECRETARY S REPORT CONT. Big shout out to the man behind the Bar, Dave Killen. He did a fantastic job in his first year as Bar Manager. He was no doubt grateful for the assistance along the way from the other RSA certified members. The committee voted to drop the S.A.L.T. Sport and Life Training program which we began the previous season. Unfortunately, the program stagnated the previous season and after a poor season financially, we as a committee decided that we would look internally to develop and roll out our own club beliefs. APCC are very lucky to have the services of such passionate men, our President, Dave Dela Delahunty and our Assistant Secretary, Jamie Tacka Davison. They put in countless hours to keep APCC such a success, in a time when a lot of clubs are struggling on and off the field. This year saw the largest numbers yet attend the annual working bee at CPEC. This was on the back of Dela driving both young and old to get along to help transform the CPEC gardens and play equipment. Thank you so much to all who volunteered. LIFE MEMBERS It is fantastic to report the addition of three new life members to our life membership roster. This season saw our new life members with outstanding on-field and off-field efforts over many decades. Congratulations to Glen Bluey Thomas, Darren Coma Walles and Leigh Peg Walles. They have all performed a variety of roles and tasks around the club for many years. The boys were presented with their well-deserved Life Member badges at our Senior Presentation Night. Our constitution provides basic criteria for potential life members to qualify for nomination. We currently have a number of members who have all comfortably qualified that need to be nominated. It is ultimately up to our membership to make the nominations so that these people can achieve their just recognition. THANK YOU Our President s Report has already made notable mention of thanks to the many people at our club who put in countless hours of voluntary time that enables so many to simply turn up and practice and play cricket and enjoy the many excellent facilities our club offers. Tacka s help this season was amazing. He has maintained a lot of the tasks that he has done for so many years now. Apart from his almost every day list of tasks to keep our club functioning, Tacka managed to organise our Christmas Party, Grand- Final Reunion and Senior Presentation Nights that were all fantastic nights. Every well-run club has its glue binding it all together and Tacka is ours. Thanks mate. Once again, big thank you to Stuart for keeping the MyCricket details up to date and for pointing me in the right direction when and where required. Many people offer their time and effort to help maintain APCC, providing valuable skills and experience to form the fabric of our cricket club that provides so much enjoyment to all. I apologise if I miss anyone. It s great to have so many help the club prosper, but we can always use more help. Many hands make light work. Thank-you so much to all and sundry. 10

APCC need to continue the development of our on-field and off-field successes to gain further support at local and State levels for the expansion of our clubrooms. Cricket is facing considerable competition and challenges in the near future to survive as we know it and Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia are aiming to provide greater assistance at local levels to expand their playing numbers and boost local talent. For our club, that means never-ceasing recruitment into our junior teams, existing club members to take on the roles needed to run the club, our coaching team to work as hard as ever to develop our young talented group whilst still making it enjoyable for our many social cricketers and everyone to back our mantra of club first, team second and individual third. As always we are forever seeking even more direct participation by our younger club members to be part of our committee and sub-committees. 12 TREASURER S REPORT After a succession of difficult financial years, season 2017/18 saw the club make a significant financial recovery to record a $28,000 profit. This represented a $50,000 turnaround from the previous season s loss of $22,000. Having come from a previously stable financial base we had been able absorb several poor financial seasons without major consequence, however the time had come to make some major changes in our financial governance and day to day management. After a thorough review of what went right and wrong in the previous season, a few initiatives were implemented. Not all were a success, but a majority were and that has been reflected in the reported results for the financial year. From a governance perspective we finally implemented an electronic point of sale system (POS) across the bar and canteen. This noticeably minimised our stock loss during the season and saved considerable time with the treasury administrative functions. There are still some improvements to be made with our hardware and these will be addressed with further investment prior to next season. Cash reserves have been restored which is a necessary precursor to future proposed capital works, namely the clubroom redevelopment. A portion of the current cash reserves will be placed on Term Deposit as has been the norm in past seasons. The club remains free of debt since fulfilling the Maroondah City Council loan for the nets redevelopment. The major turnaround was driven by a number of key initiatives. MEMBERSHIP FEES Fees were increased by 15% across all membership types. As a club we have always strived to maintain affordable fees with all home and away season costs (including balls, teas and umpires) covered by one annual fee. However, it was clear upon review of our costs that putting a senior player on the ground for an entire season cost in excess of $400. Thank you to Sean Arbuckle for so diligently chasing up payments during the season and to all members for their understanding of the fee increase. SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM A big thank you to David Ruffolo, Alan Moss and Jason Eaton who continued their good work in attracting business sponsorship. We were fortunate to receive a major contribution from Andrew Cleeland that helped build cash reserves. The player sponsorship program continued and whilst not as successful as the first season was still an important source of cash flow early in the season. PRODUCT PRICING We increased prices across all products within the Bar, Canteen and clothing areas. We had been particularly generous with our pricing in prior years as costs increased and we maintained the status quo. Thus we took a carte blanche approach to increasing most Bar and Canteen products by at least $1 a unit. In hindsight our clothing pricing was on the extreme end due to high costs but, with a new supplier, we will be adjusting this in the coming season. SOCIAL MEMBERSHIP Inspired by previous fund-raising iterations such as the 500 Club, another avenue of revenue generation was implemented in the form of a two-tier Social Membership. This was generally well received and has provided a foundation for us to build on next season where we will be hoping to cram in more value. A massive thank you to all who signed up and to David Ruffolo whose hard work it was that saw the program come to fruition. SOCIAL FUNCTIONS Having recorded a loss on social functions last season we saw a significant turnaround due to more regular events including a return of Trivia Night and the monthly Family Nights. The Family Nights enhanced the social fabric of the club and were also a great source of unplanned turnover. Many thanks to their careful organisation by Clinton and Sheila Killen and to their many helpers on those nights. 12

13 TREASURER S REPORT CONT. EXPENSE MANAGEMENT On the expense side, Administration costs were consistent with the previous season. As a club we spend responsibly and so cost cutting opportunities are few. This only reinforces the need to continue initiatives to generate turnover at or in excess of current numbers. To those I ve yet to thank, to Garry Walles for running the chocolate drive in its entirety and pumping in an additional $1,000 profit. To David Killen with support from others who did a fantastic job managing the Bar, controlling purchasing and embracing the new POS system. To Clinton Killen and Andre Massih for Thursday night meals. To Clinton and Sheila Killen for running the Canteen including purchasing, afternoon teas and Saturday night meals, a huge effort. To Sheila for taking care of the Canteen receipts across the season, you saved me significant time in my duties and I m greatly appreciative. To the committee and all club members who help in official and unofficial capacities, you are what makes our club so great. Last, but not least, thanks to my wife, Andrea who puts up with me continuing to play the game and never complains when I m locked away doing the books each weekend. Sean Minetti Treasurer 13

19 COACH S REPORT The highlight of my season this year was easy. It was watching Jimmy Hunter deliver his after-game speech to his players after their A Grade Grand Final win. The players were all obviously stoked to be premiership players, but they were listening to Jimmy with an air of expectation like they all knew what he was going to say. As Jimmy moved from the season review to how happy he was with all the boys it became clear the final months of the season had made its impact on everyone and the emotion began to pour out of him. His team mates both listened and embraced their captain, and without words, acknowledged his mixture of joy and hurt. The end of this season, unlike any other really took an emotional toll on the entire club. Losing Len so suddenly was a loss nobody was prepared for and we are all still coming to terms with him not being around. Len Bettess was a great Ainslie Park clubman who helped shape the culture that lies within the club today. He oversaw the Junior program for five years, seeing many of the now 1st XI players through their Junior seasons. Though the Bettess legacy at AP in a playing sense is still being created, Len s commitment to the Junior program was first-class and his legacy will live on through the Parkers Pride Junior award which was won by Rosie Sykes this season for her commitment, teamwork and positivity. For all the players, committee members and supporters our focus shifted from on field success to the support of our AP family. These moments do many things for clubs but the most obvious seen from my perspective is that it strengthens our bond and reinforces the reason why we choose to belong. Yes, we all love cricket however we can choose to play anywhere. Create an environment where everyone is supported, encouraged and included and you get a club that everyone wants to belong to. I am so proud of everyone for the way we rallied behind a family that needed our support. Not because you knew you had to but because that s just what we do. As coach of AP for seven years now I see players who are expected to shine in a particular season have fairly pedestrian seasons and in the same season a player completely surprises everyone and dominates their grade. This year was no different and I have to take my hat off to Brad Shorney. I can remember Brad approaching me two years ago to ask me about nutrition. Two years on and Brad is 30kgs lighter and has worked very hard on his game. Brad is extremely coachable, always asks for advice and works on improving himself. Congratulations on a great year Brad it s not time to take it easy, as climbing the grades is your next challenge. I was also pleased to see Will Killen play his first game in the 1s this season. Will s expectations on himself to make the grade were far greater than my expectations of his performance. I always knew he would make it however not this early. Will finished playing a few games in the 1st XI and still managed to be second in the RDCA vote count for Pascoe Shield. Will is destined to be one of the AP greats in 1st XI cricket and has started his account very early. The game is at your feet and the work you put into it now will reward you more than any other stage of your sporting life. I have many thanks to give and so many people to acknowledge. As managing work, Junior coaching and Senior coaching, there are many aspects of the day to day that need to be the responsibilities of others and again the AP culture has come through. To Alan Moss, Max Moss, Davey Killen, Leigh Jones, Nugget and Ship Thanks for all your help at training. It cannot run without you. To Swampy, Clinton & Sheila Killen thank you for all the work done for food preparation and the Canteen. 20 COACH S REPORT CONT. To the Committee, led by El Presidente Dela. A passionate AP man with a committee that has always supported me and allowed me to bring my ideas to life. Finally, to all the players at AP. Thanks again for the unwavering support as coach. Again, we are top five of the Club Championship and again we took pride in the way we play, and the way our opposition see us. It is so easy for a club to slip into poor habits when the behaviour of its players is not held accountable and the recent actions of our nation s representatives has shown us this. It is crucial that we regularly reflect on how you want the opposition to perceive the way you play and we in turn reflect those characteristics. For me it s being relentlessly competitive and hungry for a challenge while still acknowledging the good sport played by our foes. Respect doesn t come from force. It comes from the admiration of the way you conduct yourself on and off the field. of Ainslie Park next season as we are now focussed on getting the next batch of young cricketers to the highest level. Our seconds and thirds will be filled with the energy and eagerness of our teenagers but will need to be balanced by the experience and patience of our older players. We will all have a contribution to make in crafting this successful club and the club s success will be determined by how well we make these contributions together. As I always say whatever you can give, in whatever capacity, whenever you can give it give it. If you think you could give more give more. Get fit, stay fit and enjoy the break from cricket. 21 TROLLOPE SHIELD (1ST XI) With a Grand Final appearance in the previous season my goal was to make it to the big dance again. Most of our 1st XI players were likely to progress as individuals and our hunger to get there strong. Unfortunately, this wasn t our season falling one game short of the Grand Final and really not firing on all cylinders when it mattered most. Though disappointed, I m not about to over-analyse our performances and make drastic changes. Simply put, a bit of work with our batting strategy, especially when we play on home soil, mixed with a few players taking a more senior role in the side and we ll get what s ours. Ship yet again has proven himself to be a great batsman in Trollope with a great season. He s a great teammate to have in the team and very entertaining watching him destroy the opposition. I would also like to mention the hard work of Dillon Bettess this season. His reliability in the top order was really tested this season and his willingness to keep his wicket was a strength our team needed all too often. His grinds of 59, 23, 36, 30, 20, 41, 25 & 31 were not made in short time, and many of the innings made in situations where we had lost quick wickets. Starting with one win from the first three games our early season could have been better however our game clicked in the middle rounds winning the next five games and putting us on top of the ladder in December. After Christmas our results were inconsistent, winning all games away and losing all home games. Our home games batting performances from December were all out 76, 163, 130 & 116 while away 6/151 and 8/224. We have a distinctive lean towards having an aggressive top order that suit faster pitches and grounds. When things slow down and tie us down, we lose wickets all too regularly. Our bowling was again consistent with all bowlers contributing throughout the season and a few breakout performances. Leigh Jones 20 wickets Jake Tucker 17 wickets Jeremy Doolan 14 wickets Josh White 8 wickets Josh White was the bowler who emerged as a 1st XI player this season. Without injury and what seemed to be a harder edge to his on field attitude, Josh was a great addition to the team and proved to himself he has what it takes to play in the top competition. Our strengths with the bat is clearly the ability to post large scores as seen against Wantirna South, Warrandyte and Montrose, however with a few quick wickets before Tea and our middle order exposed, our side was under threat far too often with 20 to 30 overs in the game still left to go. Balancing our side with roles suited for batsmen who are willing to occupy the crease in the first 40 overs will be the key to batting our overs next season. Our fielding unfortunately let us down in a few games and our speed on the ground drastically reduced when Max Moss was forced out due to health. Although our batting and bowling is as good if not better than the top of the competition, our fielding is not. Our run out count this season was poor and our catching did improve towards the end of the season however this must be a focus in the pre-season and needs to improve. Evan took 24 catches behind the wicket this season and is by far the best keeper in the competition. 21

We ve seen individuals achieve groundbreaking results by changing habits or working harder. Now you have to ask yourself if you are willing to do the same. For yourself and for the team. What holds you back from being a premiership player not just a good cricketer? The loss of Len was felt by all of us in an overwhelming sadness for Josh and Dillon our team mates. We love you both like you are our brothers. Our team is close and that means lows are together. But it also means the highs are too. Next year we ll make them happen. 26 PASCOE SHIELD (2ND XI) The 2nd XI enjoyed a season of mixed results which ultimately lead to a finals appearance after a shaky start. After sitting with two wins from the first six rounds, the team gathered momentum either side of Christmas to make a strong play for finals and marginally missing out on a double chance. Our opponent in the elimination final, East Ringwood, proved to be too strong for us with bat and ball, just as they did during the regular season. To make the run we did in the back end of the season certainly wasn t without highlights, both from an individual and team perspective. Rolling the eventual premiers for 56 in an all-round team performance was certainly one of our better performances of the season and just showed that on our day we can really be a force to reckon with. The season started with Karl taking a backseat and relinquishing the captaincy of the 2nd XI. He certainly left some very big shoes to fill with his leadership it was great to see him continue his form of recent seasons with the bat and become the regular 1s player we all know he can be. One of the great things about being involved in the 2nd XI is seeing the progression of players not only pushing into the team itself, but also pushing towards higher honours with the 1st XI. The 2nd XI debuts of Coby Arbuckle and Jordan Blair showed that the club is going to be in good hands in seasons to come I trust both learnt a lot out of their respective experiences in the team this season and that it will only make them better players in the long run. It is also worth noting a few other long awaited 2nd XI debuts with Barry Oh, Anthony Sharp and Phil Moore who made valuable contributions in their respective times in the team. Sharpy, in particular, became a vital cog in the middle order at the back end of the season. Two personal highlights for myself were the rapid progression of Will Killen and Josh White. Whitey approached the season on the fringe of the 1st XI and was keen to make an impact in the top grade. His work with the ball was matched with mature batting in the top order to push his claim as a future all-rounder in the 1st XI. As for Will, it finally clicked, he really stood up this year after a couple of seasons of being blooded in the 2s. Entering the season with a previous top score of 32 in the 2nd XI, he started the season with a well-made 50 and didn t look back, piling on 347 runs for the season in the grade and making a well earnt 1st XI debut. I m really hoping both can force themselves to be regulars in the 1st XI from next season. The other side of being involved in the 2nd XI is obviously having players coming down from the 1st XI who are looking to fight their way back into a successful team. The contributions of Jeremy Burton and Jeremy Doolan certainly left an impression on the team and were a major reason for our late season push into the finals. Both showed in the Elimination Final that they can turn a game on its head in a matter of overs and Jeremy will benefit from no bowling restrictions next, while Dools workman like efforts with the ball were nothing short of exceptional on the back of his accuracy and consistency. The season certainly wasn t without its challenges throughout the year regular unavailability of players at the selection table meant that a total of 24 players represented the 2nd XI in season However, one of the main constants in a season with multiple changes each week were the experienced heads of Nugget, Coma, Pea and JMul. Their contributions to the team spoke for themselves, all ever reliable and you knew what you were going to get each week. From a leadership perspective to have these four to call upon on matchday made the transition into being captain more manageable for myself and for that I thank each of you for your contribution. 26

27 PASCOE SHIELD (2ND XI) CONT. With the bat, slightly indifferent seasons for Rowan Peters and Max Moss by their standards who were impacted by injury and health issues respectively. Despite this, both worked extremely hard at training and you just know that both have good heads on their shoulders to make strong leaps in season and beyond. Aydn Sier, also impacted by injury, showed his class before having a long-awaited operation on his knee. With the ball, Matt Delahunty and Daniel Allan, two stalwarts in our slow bowling cartel each played a key role in both formats of the game. Boony, in particular, while he didn t get as many wickets as Dela did over the course of the season, bowled extremely tight at the death overs in the one-day format and was a key factor to our overall record in the limited overs format. To finish, a big thank you must go out to all those behind the scenes that allow us to play each and every Saturday. To the committee and selection personnel, particularly Gov, Ox and Colonel who assisted at selection each week, through to the Killens preparing afternoon teas that were the envy of the RDCA and everyone in between. And of course, probably one of the biggest thanks of all has to go to Sue Minetti. Her willingness to score each week, even when her own son wasn t even playing in the 2nd XI speaks volumes for her commitment and dedication to the club and our team. Sue rides the highs and lows of the season together with us and her assistance throughout the season certainly didn t go unnoticed and is highly valued, so thank you once again! 31 A GRADE (3RD XI) As a first-time captain in the thirds I really took it upon myself to lead by example right from the start of the season and that I did I went overseas to miss the first three games. The team was left in VERY capable hands with Peabo and Lukey Bullen and for that I am very grateful, thanks boys. At Christmas and half way through the season we were sitting a couple of games out of the top 4 with a record of 4-5, however I always thought that we were well and truly in the mix with one of those five losses before Christmas being a game that we were not able to chase down a total of 116 in a twodayer and the last two games putting on big totals of 194 and 201 in 35 overs, but still going down in the last over of both games. A very consistent run of games after Christmas saw us in a very unique and interesting situation in the last game of the season. The scenario was if we lost we would not be playing finals at all and if we were to win we could finish as high as second, if every result went our way (very unlikely). We knew that we had to really give it our all and leave nothing behind. We were chasing 180 and doing it without our most crucial bat (Franga) due to an injury suffered in the Vets. It was always going to be a huge task, but a very good team batting effort saw us win with 12 overs in hand. We were in finals and better still we somehow had every result work in our favour and we snuck into second. Finishing second meant that we played who I think were the best team by a long way during the regular season, North Ringwood. As we are all aware the first week of finals was an extremely hard week for the entire club with the tragic news that Len had been put into ICU after his massive heart attack. At the start of the game I made sure everyone in the team was aware of what had happened to Len during the week. I knew it would be a very hard game for us all but just asked the boys to give everything they have and to do our mate Lenny proud and that s exactly what we did. You could tell that we weren t our usual selves, we were quite down and North Ringwood capitalised by being aggressive early and they raced to 0/60 off 10 overs. After a drinks break and a chat the boys turned it around led by Juzzy Lawlor bowling right through the innings and finishing with 5-93 off 35 (a bit expensive and over bowled if you ask me) meant that we were chasing 205. Being 2-2 was not the ideal start but then Franga and Barry Oh wound back the clock and put in huge efforts to make sure we got over the line, in what was the best win I had ever been involved in at the time. The win saw our very injury prone team have the week off and go straight in to the GF! The day of the Grand Final was a very rainy day which saw North Ringwood make a huge error and win the toss and bowl (I was going to do the exact same thing). Franga and Cam had a great opening stand of 56 and set us up beautifully before Franga was out (and boy was he told about it) for an incredible 45. From then we proceeded to lose wickets far too consistently with batsmen only getting starts and not going on with it. Notable scores; Franga 45, John Ridley 23, Cam Hunter 16 and a match winning innings of 19 from Jordan Hochkins gave us something to bowl at with a total of 152. Being confident that what we had on the board would keep us in the game for a very long time we went out to do what we do, BOWL BORING LINES OUTSIDE OFF!!!!!! Getting very little luck throughout the game saw us up against it and North Ringwood reached The lads really lifted and the pitch became a very hostile place for a batsman. With Dave Killen being our sub fielder / super sub and both Hunters being on the field with a young confident Coby meant that there was absolutely no shortage of lip headed the batsmen s way. My message was to just keep doing what we are doing and the luck will change, and that it did. After being 31
