1 B C G B A N E W S British Crown Green Bowling Association Issue 14 / March 2012 COACHES MUST HAVE INSURANCE COVER A recent request for the help of County Secretaries was made by Alan Tizard, BCGBA National Coaching Administrator, who was trying to contact all clubs, especially those where either qualified or unqualified coaching takes place. He expressed his concern about the number of people who are coaching without Insurance cover, either because they forget or they don t want to pay the Annual Membership Fee for the British Crown Green Coaching Scheme (BCGCS). The Coaching Scheme exists to promote the game of Crown Green Bowls and to provide a structure whereby coaches have access to support and information, enabling them to gain the expertise and qualifications necessary when offering help to bowlers wanting to improve their play (see BCGBA Handbook pp54-55). It is important for them to know that the support offered includes the provision of Insurance cover for all licensed members. The Coaching Scheme takes out Insurance cover which provides Public Liability up to 5 million, with abuse cover extension and also each coach has Personal Accident cover while they are engaged in coaching activities. He stressed to coaches: DO NOT EXPECT YOUR CLUB TO AUTOMATICALLY PROVIDE ADEQUATE INSURANCE COVER FOR YOU, IT IS YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY. It is worth remembering that: Not all clubs have cover which provides for Public Liability up to 5 million. Relatively few of them take out the Abuse cover extension or have any Personal Accident cover for their coaches. He went on to say that there are people in many Counties who have qualified at Level 1 since 2008, but who did not pay their fees in 2011 and that he was sure some of these are still coaching and had probably forgotten. National Coaching Administrator, Alan Tizard All Coaches, please note: BCGCS Membership Fees for 2012 became due on 1st December 2011 and are Cheques should be made payable to BCGBA and sent to me via your County Coaching Officer and Regional Coach. Please write your NAME, the CLUB(S) where you will be coaching and your REGISTRATION NUMBER on the back of the cheque. The BCGBA website will be updated regularly throughout the season to contain results of all team and individual competitions. Webmaster, Pat Crowther, usually updates results of each competition live from the event with scores updated after each round is completed. With the World Club Championship now underway, don t forget to log on to the free website to view all the match results and individual game scores. 1 P a g e

Section 1 Section 3 Cumbria v South Derbyshire Shropshire v Wirral Greater Manchester v Mid Cheshire South Staffordshire v Yorkshire Section 2 Dudley & District v North Warwickshire South Yorkshire v Wales Section 4 Burton & District v Staffordshire Cheshire v North Shropshire North Lancs & Fylde v Warwickshire HANDBOOK NOW OUT The 2012 BCGBA Handbook is now out. REFEREES TO RAISE MORE MONEY The British Crown Green Bowling Referees Society (BCGRS) Secretary, Barrie Cotterell, will shortly be presenting St Luke s Hospice in Winsford with a cheque for 500 as a donation from the funds raised from last year s Referees Patron s Day. Barrie has announced that this year s Patron s Day will take place on Saturday 9th June at Winsford Conservative Club (10am) where it is hoped another fantastic sum can be raised for this worthwhile cause. If you would like to make a donation, then please contact Barrie on where all monies will be gratefully received. 2 P a g e
