6 #DevelopmentMatters You, like me, probably can t believe that we are in February already and with March around the corner, the 2016 season will be upon us before we know it! My main question to you this month is Are you Ready? Now is the perfect time to be reviewing your coaching and welfare position within your Club or Association, carrying out DBS checks through your County Welfare Officer and organising coaching sessions or Open Days to promote your club and attract new members. We are busy working behind the scenes on the new website which will be launched next month and through the season will build up to be home to everything you need. As ever, if you have any questions, please contact me. Happy Reading! Jodie BCGBA National Development Officer SAFEGUARDING UPDATE If you have attended the Level 1 Safeguarding Course (SPC1), it is important to be aware that the guideline is that you refresh your knowledge every three years to ensure that you are up to date with all of the current best practice guidelines. Sports Coach UK have recently launched a new online refresher course that can be completed in the comfort of your own home. This is a BCGBA recognised certificate and can be used as a refresher instead of a face to face course. The online content currently costs 16 and can be viewed here Don t forget to print your certificate as proof of completion! There is currently a massive focus on Juniors in many counties in preparation for the 2016 season. If you know anyone under 18 who may be interested in bowling then don t miss an opportunity to introduce them to the game. Contact your local League or County Secretary for details of Junior events in your area. Facebook user? Search for Crown Green Bowls Development Discussions and chat all things development with likeminded thinkers What resources would you like to see on the new BCGBA website? Please do get in touch with any ideas you may have How much exercise do you get during a game of bowls? We would like to find out some stats on this. If you record your activity (or would like to!) and are interested in collecting some stats for us then please let me know. You will need to record your activity on your own phone, pedometer, Fitbit or similar, I will provide all the information on what records we need. Looking for funding? Then Sport England may be able to help. You can visit their website below, learn more about the funding available and make an application. Contact your local Development Officer through your County Management Committee or me direct at Jodie.faulkner@googl .com 6 P a g e
7 BRITISH CROWN GREEN LADIES BOWLING ASSOCIATION CAROL APPOINTED LADIES PRESIDENT FOR A SECOND TIME CAROL TAYLOR is the new President of the British Crown Green Ladies Bowling Association having been nominated by her county, Mid Cheshire. But she is no stranger to holding high office as she was President of the ladies association in the 1995/96 seasons and becomes the first person to be elected to this prestigious position twice. Carol will be supported by Evelyn Hastings from North Lancs & Fylde who takes up her role as Deputy President. Many will know Evelyn as she is one of the top BCGBA referees and is seen regularly performing her duties on the famous Waterloo green. Other changes see Sue Todd relinquish her role as Secretary and she will take over from Christine Jordan as Chairman. She will combine this role with that of the association s Welfare Officer. Jackie Rutter is the new Secretary and will assume all responsibility for the association s competitions. Pat Crowther will remain as the County Championship Secretary. Helen Clee continues as Treasurer, Joan Wrigley is Vice Chairman and Jodie Faulkner is Development Officer and Webmaster. Angela Gaut, Brenda Jones, Isobel Jones and Anne O Loughlin form the new Committee. CALENDAR OF EVENTS 2016 The Calendar of Events generally follows the same pattern as previous seasons. The major change this season is that the date of the County Championship final and Waterloo Cup final has been brought forward to August from their traditional September date. This has come about to avoid clashing with the Isle of Man Festival, Waterloo, Champion of Champions and BCGBA Centenary Mixed Pairs and Waterloo Doubles, all of which are played on consecutive weekends in September. Both the County Championship and Waterloo Cup finals will now be played on the same day and at a central venue. The Waterloo Final will start at 11am with the County Championship Final starting at 3pm in what should make for a tremendous atmosphere. Alternatively, it can be used against Club kit purchases or trophies etc. The amount to be added will be your decision and how you wish to take the funds. Once everything agreed Fortis will put the Club webshop online via and then members will be able to place orders and pay directly. 10 HAS BACK PAIN EVER STOPPED YOU FROM PLAYING BOWLS? If your answer to the above is YES read on! Our official supplier of BCGBA kit and trophies FORTIS SPORT have introduced to us Doctor Shane Murnaghan of Pearl Gravity who is having unparalleled success in the selfhelp treatment for back pain whether moderate or serious. Doctor Murnaghan has developed a revolutionary product that allows the user to treat themselves ongoing with remarkable results. It is not invasive and saves the cost of expensive physiotherapy and Chiropractic treatments many of which do nothing more than offer temporary relief. Recently BCGBA Chief executive John Crowther and his wife Pat tried Gravity and with John s known history of back pain it was a good test! After 20 minutes both John and Pat were totally astounded by the effects they had experienced. A self-confessed sceptic of the GRAVITY at the beginning Pat had to agree that the response she had experienced was truly incredible! John said: Being highly sceptical Pat and I decided to give the Gravity an opportunity to help with our back pain. We were very surprised that after just 20 minutes lying on the product most of our pain seemed to disappear and it felt much easier to move. Without a doubt we would use this on a regular basis when available John Crowther CEO BCGBA. Dr Murnaghan (pictured) staged FREE GRAVITY demonstrations at last year s Champion of Champions Tournament at the Waterloo, Blackpool and was kept busy with a constant stream of bowlers trying out his self-help treatment. SPECIAL INTRODUCTORY OFFER TO BCGBA MEMBERS SAVE 30 / FOR 2 WEEKS ONLY To get your GRAVITY pack ordered go to to learn more about this amazing aid to well being and to get your BCGBA Special Introductory Offer PLUS FREE DELIVERY WITHIN 3 DAYS (UK only) just add the code FOR25 to the online order form JUNIOR GEORGE MASTERS The third running of the Junior George Masters one-day competition is open to all junior players aged over 10 and under the age of 18 by 30 January This season s competition will take place on Monday 02 May 2016 at The George, George Road, Oldbury West Midlands B68 9LN with a 10am start.
