2 P a ge 2 V olume 2 I s s u e 3 Northern Ontario CYC & YBC Champions The great white north will be heading to Richmond B.C. to compete at the 4 Steps to Stardom National Championships the first week of May. Bantams Abbigail Gunsinger & Aiden Bass Juniors Ryleah Bell & Daniel George Seniors Lindsay Perlini & Cody Newman After the completion of the YBC Nationals, the CYC Championships will be held the first week of June in Calgary, Alberta. Representing Northern Ontario is the team of: Bantams Chasity King (North Crest Aidan Bass (North Crest Lanes Juniors Ryleah Bell (North Crest Daniel George (Mario s Bowl) Intermediates Shaune Pine (North Crest Nathan Woods (North Crest Seniors Brittney Marshall (North Crest Daniel Rheaume (North Crest Magna & Wilkins compete at USBC Masters Klassen bowls in first PBA Regional Eighteen year old, Kevin Magna, of Laval Quebec told Coach Gus that his knees were shaking at the onset of his first PBA major event. Magna who one week prior, had just missed earning the gold at the CYC Provincial Championship says he was a little disappointed with his scoring (averaging 187). Magna feels it was a great learning experience and is looking forward to competing in future PBA events. The mental game at this level was intense quotes Wilkins. Averaging was not his best performance, but Wilkins was happy with the outcome. His goal for his first PBA Major was to stay a plus and cash. Making the cut would have been a bonus but like Magna, Wilkins takes the experience back with him and will work on perfecting every component of his game. Jordan Klassen competed at the PBA Regional in Hubbard Ohio March 16th Bowling on the Shark pattern, Klassen found the conditions to be less generous. The lanes broke down early, I just couldn t find the pocket. A little disappointed with his first appearance, Klassen is looking forward to attending more PBA Regional events. YBC Ontario Triples Team Provincial Championships The YBC Ontario Triples Team Provincial Championships were held April 7 at Quinte Bowl in Belleville. Earning a $ scholarship each was Bowlerama Barrie with +260 pins over their combined averages. Congratulations to the Barrie girls Alexandra Christou (+110), Kayla Bagley (+50) Jessica Pittman (+86). Earning $50.00 scholarship awards, in 2nd place, was the team from Quinte Bowl. Capturing 1st place for the boys was the team from Burlington Bowl. Congratulations to the Burlington boys team of Jon- Michael Fraser Dylan Stewart athon Posovad Finishing 2nd place and $50.00 each in scholarship awards was the team from Bowlerama Royale London.

3 V olume 2 I s s u e 3 P a ge 3 The life of a bowler during off-season If you are fortunate enough to have a good season and win every provincial event that leads to a National and/or International, your off-season may soon fill up. Miranda Panas (Ontario), Brittany Crawford & Mitch Hupé (Manitoba) have been able to accomplish this outstanding feat this season. Leading high average in their youth leagues, the trio are proving to be the top youth athletes in Canada. A bowlers dream, here is their summer schedule: May 4-6 ~ YBC Nationals in Richmond, British Columbia May ~ Team Canada Trials, Montreal, Quebec May 30-June3 ~ Canadian Youth Championships, Calgary, Alberta July 6-13 ~ Team Canada PABCON, Ponce, Puerto Rico July ~ Junior Gold Championships, Michigan, Detroit The trio have the opportunity to finish the season with one last tournament before regular season commences. If victorious at the CYC Nationals, they could be headed to the Lee Evans Tournament of America s held July 28-Aug 3 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Follow the summer results on the YBOWL face book group page. College Bound ~ USA Unlike our sister country, Canada does not offer our student bowlers the opportunity to compete in Collegiate Bowling. Many youth bowlers over the years have headed South to get their education while being able to bowl at the Collegiate level. Canadian, Pro Bowler, Dan McLelland is a prime example as he attended Saginaw Valley in Michigan. Congratulations to our youth bowlers who will travel south. Collegiate bowling will be exciting and the opportunities will be endless. Attending Urbana University in Ohio in the fall of 2013 will be: Joshua Brant-Parkin (Belleville) Maude Demers (Quebec) Samantha Shanley (Peterborough) & Brittney Barnett (Brampton); both are in negotiations with Urbana University. DJ Rose of Windsor will be attending Concordia University in Michigan. Christine Johnston of Hamilton, has accepted an offer at the University of Pikeville. You can follow the Canadian athletes on our website. Christine Johnston official signing with Pikeville A Special Tribute Whether it be travelling across Southern Ontario, Canada, the USA or the world, we thank you! Paying for tournaments, hotels, food and some small entertainment of shopping, we thank you! Weekly league(s), monthly tours, special events, last minute events, new equipment, we thank you! Countless hours of preparing tournaments, updating statistics, website information, data entry, we thank you! Helping us work toward our educational and athletic goals, we thank you! 4 P a ge 4 V olume 2 I s s u e 3 Hartwyn Urbanski YBT Bowler of the Year Hartwyn Urbanski, the kid with a lot of hand. Hartwyn has been bowling since he was a tot. Born & raised in Kingston, Ontario, his parents, avid bowlers & youth program directors, introduced Hartwyn to the game by creating the Pee Wee program at their home centre, Prost Bowl. During his youth career, Urbanski has accomplished 10 Perfect Games and four 800 series. He has been successful on the YBT tour in Southern Ontario over the years. He too, has been the proud recipient of the YBT Richard Olango award. Attaining his goal, this is his 2nd consecutive title of Bowler of the Year. Hartwyn graduated from the General Carpenter program at Lawrence College in 2010 and immediately found himself employment with a framing company. Although Hartwyn is sad to be leaving the youth scene, he plans on having a strong adult bowling career. He will be joining the Players Tour, bowling in PBA Regionals along with the USBC Masters, Open and World Series within the next couple of years. Hartwyn plans on attending as many tournaments as he can within Canada and the USA with his ultimate goal of being on the Professional Bowlers Tour. Hartwyn s next tournament will be the Fletchers Scratch Challenge May 11th in Kingston. His goal is to make the finals in which will be televised by COGECO Cable. You can follow Hartwyn s career on our website! Brianna Chrysler YBT Bowler of the Year You know you re having a good year when you show up to a tournament without your equipment, use a house ball and bowl in rental shoes. The day before at the YBT Season Finale, Brianna had received a total of $ in scholarship awards. In the B Division, Brianna received the high average award with a and a high series score of 747. 6 YBOWL (bus) (cell) (fax) ~The next edition will be August 2013~ M&M s Corner 10 Inspirational Quotes from UCLA Coaching Legend, Coach (John) Wooden: A leader s most powerful ally is his or her own example. We don t have to be superstars or win championships. All we have to do is learn to rise to every occasion, give our best effort, and make those around us better as we do it. The best competition I have is against myself ~ to become better. Concentrate on what you do have, not what you don t. We are all equal in that we can all strive to become the best we are capable of becoming. We can always improve, but we shouldn t compare ourselves to others. We get in trouble when we start trying to measure up to someone else. Do not permit what you cannot do to interfere with what you can do. Remember, results aren t the criteria for success~ it s the effort made for achievement that is the most important. Players with fight never lose a game; they just run out of time. You are the only one who knows whether you have won. If I am ever through learning, I am through... Inspirational thoughts shared from the book, Life Wisdom from Coach Wooden.a great read!
