2 The President s Bat Welcome to the last Hawk Talk for the 2017/ 2018 season. We have certainly had some wet weather to finish off the season. Our U8 and U9 teams bore the brunt this year with three nights either too wet or we had storms arriving right on 6.00pm..Last year we only had one washout and in previous years none at all. To compensate our little guys we are having an extra night on Friday 23 rd March. This year we had two teams winning four BNJCA Premierships. Congratulations to Col Wade and his U13 Sea Hawks who won both the Pre-Xmas premiership and the Post Xmas premiership. Francois Basson and his U14 Eagle Hawks did the same winning both competitions. We had twelve boys who made Brisbane North representative teams which played all over the State before and after Xmas. These players made wonderful contributions to their rep teams and I am sure their club sides have benefitted from their experience. We had two senior teams playing in Warehouse Cricket finals last weekend. Unfortunately our B2 boys missed out but I would like to wish the B1 boys the very best in their Grand Final this coming weekend. At this time of the year there are many people to thank as clubs of our size do not just happen. To all the people on the committee and their partners/spouses, I thank you for the countless hours of dedicated service. Kathy Casey and Karlee Quin, our Statisticians, have been very busy these past few weeks preparing all the trophies and the list of recipients for today s presentation. Eddie Mills has been tireless in her efforts with the Hawk Talk and also in her role as Warehouse Registrar. Warren Stevens has prepared the pitches for our Friday night games. Peter McFarlane has kept our web site maintained. Once again John Murray has done an excellent job as our club Registrar. Our Treasurer, Ray Frazer controls the finances of this club. The Ian Healy Cup was very successful again this year and I would like to thank the Quin family as well as Kathy Casey and Eddie Mills for their efforts throughout the week. Thank you one and all. Friday Night cricket for our U8 and U9 players was again a huge success. I would like to thank the Quin family before Xmas and the Cook family after Xmas for their work in keeping the canteen going. A special thanks also to all our coaches and managers who have put in the hard yards on a weekly basis. Many of these people have been at the club for five or six years or more and their contribution has been invaluable. The fact that these coaches keep coming back says a lot for us as a club and is responsible for the stability and confidence that you as parents have in the care that they exercise over your children. To all the parents who have assisted with scoring and generally organising the boys on Saturday morning and Friday nights, I extend a huge thank you. Our major sponsor, LJ Hooker of Albany Creek has certainly allowed us to keep our fees down and thus keep more children on the fields. We have several minor sponsors as well whose ongoing commitment to the club are much appreciated. Please continue to support these wonderful local people. Thanks for your support. I would like to congratulate all those players who are receiving trophies today. They wouldn t have received those awards unless their team mates took the catches or stayed with them while they were batting. You are all winners. Well done! Thanks to the players for the way you played the games throughout the season. Recently the Albany Creek Cricket Club participated in the Pink Stumps Fundraising campaign. We had another successful year raising in excess of $3000. Thank you to all of those people involved. Thanks also to our Local politicians, Mike Charlton, Tim Mander and Peter Dutton who generously donated money and prizes for our raffle. I wish you all many pleasant sleep-ins on Saturday mornings and look forward to seeing you all next summer. Steve Casey

5 How Are The Winners Of Team Trophies Determined? We like to remind everyone at the start of the season about how the trophy winners are determined for the team awards, so here s the drum: At the end of the season, there are three trophies awarded for each team: 1. Batting Award 2. Bowling Award 3. Coaches Award In the past there has been some confusion as to how the winners of these trophies are determined. Set out below are the basic guidelines used to determine the winners: 1. The Batting Award is always decided first. The best average is used to determine the winner in senior grades [U11 Open Divisions] while the junior grades [U8 U10] are determined by the best aggregate total {unless there is a draw, in which case averages will be used to determine the winner]. For senior grades, this player MUST have played in 50% or more of the team matches and be in the top 50% of run scorers. The Batting Average is calculated by dividing the number of times the batter has been out into the total runs scored for the season e.g. 125 runs divided by 5 outs will give an average of The Bowling Award is decided second. [The winner of the Batting Award is not eligible for this award.] Again, the best average is used to determine the winner in senior grades [U11 Open Divisions] while the junior grades [U8 U10] are determined by the best aggregate total {unless there is a draw, in which case averages will be used to determine the winner]. For senior grades, this player MUST have played in 50% or more of the team matches and be in the top 50% of wicket takers. The Bowling Average is calculated by dividing the number of wickets taken by the bowler into the number of runs scored against. e.g. 100 runs against divided by 5 wickets will give an average of The Coaches Award.is decided third. [The winners of the Batting or Bowling Award are not eligible for this award] This award is decided by the Coach and may be given for any reason what so ever. For example, the Coach may decide to award it to a player who may not have been amongst the best batters or bowlers but had displayed a great attitude towards the game, his team and his coach, both on match day and at training. Individual Trophies!! There are also lots of other trophies award for certain milestones and events. For example: Hat Tricks 5 or more Wickets in an Innings (U11 Open Divisions) 4 x 50 runs in an innings (U11 Open Divisions) Centuries 50 Wickets in junior (U8-U10) or senior (U11 Open Divisions) age group 1,000 Runs in junior (U8-U10) or senior (U11 Open Divisions) age group Cricketer of the Year (U11 Open Divisions) Half-Season Cricketer of the Year (U11 Open Divisions) Significant milestones and events are also tracked in our Honour Board. This is a wonderful living file that records an archive of our clubs history, including the top 10 junior and senior batsmen and bowlers for the season. If you haven t seen it and are interested in receiving a copy of the file, please send an to the club statistician on accc.stats@albanycreekcricketclub.com.au.

The gators batted first and were restricted by some excellent fielding and very accurate bowling. Ari s best bowling of the season 3 overs 5 runs and 2 wickets well done! Batting was difficult on a wet field but Mason and Luke got the innings off to a good start before Andy and Jim got us home. Top score Jim but Andy with a six, tight bowling, a catch and great allround fielding was deserved MoM. There was backing up players & stamps while also chasing all balls hard in the outfield to ensure scoring kept to a minimum. Tyler (Player of the Match) displayed perfect catching to cleanly take 3 catches for the game. GAME REPORT: Tyler and Lincoln batted & bowled well having an all-round strong game. There was some outstanding bowling by Tobi which allowed him to take 2 wickets in 2 balls and only just missed achieving the rare feet of achieving a hat-trick. Well played White Hawks another great game by all. Jason Faull Wet Weather Information is posted on Facebook, so don t forget to... Two run-outs were a highlight from Grace and Sienna. Unfortunately, our number of wickets lost when batting went against us to lose the match overall. Well bowled to the Valley team. Andrew Francey

Valley batting first got off to a flyer with their opener hitting a quick fire 36 from 22 balls before being caught and bowled by Jett, and Valley would have posted a higher score had it not been for Luke and Noah who managed to take 4 wickets for 9 runs towards the end of the innings. One of these wickets was a contender for catch of the year with Jett taking a screamer at gulley off the bowling of Luke. The top scorer for Valley was Extras who managed a steady 48 from their allocated overs. The Falcons batting was again anchored by Jack with an excellent 32no, including 3 sixes, with great support from Jett with 21no and Ben with 10. The Falcons finished the first innings 5 runs behind and things were set up for a second innings, particularly after some midweek focus on improved bowling accuracy, however the rain had alternative plans.again. GAME REPORT: With heavy cloud cover throughout the day I think everyone was glad the rain stayed away just long enough until the last ball was bowled. Our Captain Lucas won the toss and elected to bat. We got off to a great start with plenty of cheeky singles and a few big hooks for six, Jett was desperately trying to hit one onto the hawks nest roof from field 2. The blue hawks reeled in their bowling making scoring difficult to end the innings. Nice defensive play and loud calls between the wickets by our new players Lucas & Jesse showed real class. A quick sausage sizzle at the break and we were back at it to try and bowl our way to victory. Jesse opened the bowling taking his first career wicket with his 2 nd ball of the night crashing one into middle stump. Followed up with some smooth action straight arm bowling from Lucas, a huge improvement in only his 2 nd game. Bowling in the middle order was our always consistent seamer / leg spinner Lockyer, adding another wicket to his already massive haul for the season. Jayden bowled a tight last over, sealing the victory with a run out on the second last ball. Players of the match were Lucas and Jesse. Choosing to field first, bowling was a little rusty however good desperate fielding helped keep the runs down. A catch at keeper from Hayden Wiltshire and a string of runouts from Sean Laver, Danny Costello, Matthew Gibson and Jake Brind capped off a great effort in the field. What a run it was! The boys must have been practicing at home so much that when they came out this night they really came out and let it leash. Mitchell Ring (47 not out) showed everyone how to hit the ball with five 6 s and three 4 s. Outstanding!!! Kyan Lloyd followed closely behind with solid precise hitting scoring of 38. Noah Coleman even pulled out his first 6 for all-time scoring a wonderful 22 not out. Bowling was outstanding from all the boys as well getting 8 wickets in total from deliveries. Mitchell Ring was quick with the ball getting 3 for 23. Noah Coleman almost two wicket maidens with figures of 2 for 4. Also a special thanks to the White Hawks for lending 2 fielders, one even ran out his own team mate, all in the spirit of the game. That s what we like to see, everyone always trying their best no matter what. GAME REPORT: With heavy rain menacing early in the week, praise the cricket gods for clearing the skies on what was such a special Pink Stumps night. Both teams and supporters dressed for the occasion. The pitch was wet and right from the first ball the cracks started appearing. Batting first we found runs difficult to come by, the oppositions bowling attack was spot on. The ball was deceiving, digging into the pitch and making it hard to get the timing right. With the outfield rated heavy, finding the boundary was also a challenge, however with nice loud calls by Jesse Y and Lockyer it enabled them to run for 2 on numerous occasions. Good work boys. Billy and Jesse B were the final two batters, both started their innings off cautiously but managed to find the boundary several times in the final over to make our score a little more respectable. After a quick break and a belly full of cupcakes, the boys took to the field with excitement, all wanting to knock down the pink timber stumps. Jett was the first man to do it, with Billy following up shortly after. At the end of the night, the result didn t matter. The boys all had fun and we managed to raise a good amount of $$ for charity. Dave Davies / Darren Tebbit Hawk Page 40

Luca had waited all the way around the field for his next chance to bowl. He had just smashed the pink stumps out of the ground two balls in a row to finish his first over, and now, here he was, standing at the top of his run again with ball in hand on a hat trick! The batsman was shaking in his boots, the fielders were charging in hoping for a diving catch and their own share of the glory. In he came, sent down another perfectly pitched delivery, the batsman swung and missed, the umpire was sure the ball was going to shave the stump and almost yelled aloud oh so close! But then it happened, the white cherry once again slammed itself beautifully into the pink stump. The Under 9 Reds first ever hat trick had been taken, and pandemonium broke out at the Hawks Nest! With a highlight like that, it is hard to know what else to say! But, as it turns out, there were plenty more highlights in another great team performance in which the Red Hawks notched up another well-deserved victory. Charlie and Hudson and Max also shook the pink timberwork with magnificent clean bowled deliveries, Matteo bowled his best two overs by far and backed it up in the field with some excellent fielding to pick up the fielder of the week award, Oliver played the finest cut shot of the season sending his first ball racing to the boundary, Ethan called, backed up and ran superbly to earn himself batsman of the week, and Ansh continued his domination of the bowlers, smashing another two sixes on his way to again top scoring with 24. All round there was some excellent cricket on display, and with two rounds to go the boys look like they are really hitting top gear. Who knows what it possible next week!! What a great, close, competitive & successful game for the boys. With our newest member of the team Jeremy captain for the day he started with winning the toss and electing to bowl first. A wise choice with some excellent fielding by all the boys resulting in 6 run outs making sure the oppositions scoring was restricted to a chase able total. Eamon was excellent in the field causing 2 run outs & Tyler continued his excellent catching taking another good catch. Not only was the fielding excellent but the bowling was also awesome with some tight over s keeping a lid on the scoring. Great performances with the ball from Tyler, Seb & Lincoln. Chasing a competitive total the boys batted very well and placed a high price on their wickets which in turn insured the team did not lose many wickets. To bat for 24 overs and only lose 5 wickets in total was a great effort by the entire team. Some great batting by Tyler & Lincoln saw both boys have an excellent all round game. Above all, there was one stand out performance for the game/season & that was Eka (AKA THE E TRAIN) making a massive 37 from only 14 balls. What a great innings to watch with the entire team riding the wave with Eka, each and every shot he played. Eka hit 2 fours & 4 sixes which included back to back sixes. While there were many great performances by many boys in the team, Eka was awarded PLAYER OF THE MATCH. Due to the team s all round excellent performance the White Hawks won by 4 runs to record our first win of the season. I am sure all parents were & are just so proud of the boys.. PROUD COACH?! GAME REPORT: The Hawks, missing a few players through injury, took on the Bald Hills Lawnton Lions and after winning the toss sent the opposition into bat. On a slow outfield with boundaries hard to find the opposition batted well and posted 121 for the loss of only one wicket on Day 1. Well done to Zak Rinaldi who took the sole wicket for the Hawks. The Hawks then went into to bat and for their innings made 139 to be bowled out in the last over of the innings. A special mention to Andy Corrie who batted extremely well ending up 47*. Had the outfield been a bit quicker it, no doubt, would have been much higher with some excellent shots pulling up on the wet outfield. Bald Hills then returned to bat to finish out their innings and lost some quick wickets early with great bowling from Luke Sutherland, Josh Stevens and Flynn Paine but having built up an early lead on Day 1 ended up being bowled out also in the last over for 209. GAME REPORT: This game was played at two different venues due to Lakes oval being waterlogged and unplayable on the second day. Lakes Blue won the toss and elected to bowl. The first innings saw Adam and Daniel opening to some very tight bowling, with Daniel bowled for 16/36 (2 fours). Christian then came in to partner with Adam, with Adam retiring on 41 - hitting 5 fours in the process. Christian hung in there to the end before finally being caught 22/69 (2 fours). The rest of the team followed up with sound defensive play with Tom contributing another 17 runs (2 fours) to bring the score up to 10/164 after 54 overs. Brad, Iain, Tom, Ben and Preston are all to be commended on their patience and judgement in facing up to Lakes bowling. Day two was played at Bray Park SS oval. It was Hawks turn to bowl with Daniel and Tom getting the team off to a good start with overall bowling figures of 1/16 off 8 overs and 1/15 off 5 overs with 3 and 2 maidens respectively. Consistent bowling saw Dhruv take 2/19 off 6 overs and additional wickets from Abhi (1/3 off 3), Christian (1/18 off 6), Iain (1/6 off 4), Ben (1/16 off 3), Adam (1/11 off 6) and Preston (1/18 off 3) with Christian, Adam, Declan and Abhi each managing a single maiden. Lightning reflexes saw two spectacular catches from Abhi. The game went down to the wire with an lbw from Dhruv and the final batsman being bowled by Daniel to see Lakes Blue finish on 10/161 and a victory for the Hawks. On a slow pitch, our batsmen just did not dig in, with the exception of Alex, who was grinding away until age caught up with him, and he tripped on his walking stick and pulled his calf muscle. The scorebook reads like a telephone number, and defending our meagre was always going to be difficult. Batting for them was difficult as well. We started well, taking wickets at 8 and 19, but then they passed us only 3 down, and the fourth wicket took them to 81. Sam bowled 7 overs in his first spell (2/10) and Corie's first 4 overs were maidens. Everyone else contributed and we caught well. To our credit, we fought hard and rolled them for 127, but our efforts in the field are never our problems. Going back in to bat we were 59 in arrears, and were hoping to put on a quick 120ish to leave them something gettable that would also give us a chance to steal an outright. There was a shower of rain between innings change, and the pitch was getting softer. Again we were in trouble, and in danger of not even making them bat again. Andrew was resolute, fighting hard on the good balls, and dispatching the bad ones way over the boundary. Casey supported well in his innings, and when Andrew was finally gone, Sam and Corie put on an unbeaten 49 partnership to give us a chance. As we were declaring with an hour to go and a 59 lead, another shower came through to end our chances. So we finish in third, and will be playing our opponents today in the semi next week. Hopefully a better wicket and outcome will be waiting for us. Colin Otto

GAME REPORT: The Blue Hawks batted first and put on one of their best batting efforts of the season. Lachlan was dynamic and slammed a majestic 42 while Aiden chipped in with a well compiled 26 and Ben with a nicely made 25. The bowlers bowled with great economy with Axel delighting his team mates and the spectators by grabbing our first hat trick of the season as he hit the stumps 3 balls in a row. He finished with 3/11, with Aiden also very economical with 0/10 of 2 overs and Hayden 0/13 off 3 overs. The blue Hawks managed to nab some runouts this week after a bit of a dry spell in this department. Aiden grabbed 2 while Ben, Lachlan, Mitchell and Fletcher also got a runout each. This game brings to a close of the official games for the season and I would like to say what an amazing bunch of boys this team has been throughout the season with so much improvement in their skills and understanding of the game. Billy s throws were accurate again adding another 2 runouts to his tally. Jayden took a screamer of a catch out in the deep and Craig made so many great stops that saved four runs on more than a handful of occasions. GAME REPORT: Second last game for the season and the boys turned it on tonight. Everyone made runs with Lockyer smashing nearly every ball to the boundary and in doing so made his highest career score. Billy chimed in with some sweet timed straight drives, whistling it over the bowlers head numerous times. Craig s running between the wickets was incredible, with his first single of the night, he notched up 100 runs for the season. This great display of batting was backed up with magnificent line and length bowling. Lockyer the standout, bowling 3 maiden overs in a row and also taking 2 wickets, this kid should be playing for Australia. Jett, Billy and Jesse all had success in knocking the stumps down as well. It was such a great team effort tonight that I awarded the whole team with players of the match. Also a special thanks to the lovely mums that helped out with the BBQ. Dave Davies / Darren Tebbit

It was the toughest game so far for the Red Hawks who were a bit off our usual game. The bowling was good, but some hard hitting from the opposition saw the ball sailing all over the place, and prevented us taking a single wicket. Then with the bat we had a lot of swings and misses against some good line and length bowling. Going into the last round next week we need to put all the skills we have learnt this year into place keeping your eye on the ball and watching it right onto the bat, bowling with a nice straight arm straight at the stumps, backing up, calling loud and running hard, and always being ready in the field to stop the ball with your hands and throw back into the stumps. Well done boys on a great season so far and good luck for the final round next week! John Ring / Darren Coleman John Ring / Darren Coleman

Well done to Andy, Luke, Pawan, and Flynn who all retired not out during their innings. It was then the Hawks turn in the field. The opposition bowled very tight lines, and made scoring difficult, although we may have read more into it than was required. Andrew performed again, Nato and Dan with starts, but the rest of the batsmen failed to fire and again put the pressure on our bowlers to do the job. 130 was always going to be hard to defend, but we too bowled very tight lines, and made them struggle to score. We contained all their batsmen, and when their big hitters came to the crease, we ensured they ably threw away their wickets by bowling at the stumps. They made it to 6/92, before Nato came on and ripped out the tail. Testament to our tight bowling, there are 4 bowled and 3 LBW in the book. Two of the three catches went to keeper and slips. Going to bat at 1.20pm, with a 19 run lead, we knew we needed to bat out the afternoon. Everyone dug in, and although runs didn't flow, time kept marching on. A little wobble in the middle to go from 2/40 to 6/47, but we kept fighting hard. Sam fought for an hour and half, battling through plenty of sledging being piled onto him. He stood tall, and I would say it was one of the best innings I have seen him play in terms of tough and gritty, and Steve Waugh in the Carribean comes to mind. It was an innings I am sure he will never forget. One other stand out, gutsy performance of mention, is Logan. Logan joined Sam at the wicket at 4pm with the score on 76. Loss of the final wicket at that point would have opened the door for the opposition. Logan put his head down and supported Sam, batting for 4o minutes, and getting us far enough to prevent our opponents the opportunity to slog their way to victory. Needing 121 from 3 overs, they came out anyway for a go. Corey, Andrew and Matt had an over each, and a little side bet as to who would go for the most runs. Andrew unfortunately won the belt, going for 17, but Matt gave him a good run with his 9 ball over Colin Otto WAREHOUSE B2 Semi Final 17 & 18/03/ st Inn 2 nd Inn Albany Creek Vs 135 Bribie Island 192 0/71 Barry McDougall
