2 The President s Bat Welcome to our final Hawk Talk for this winter season. Many of our teams are involved in the finals series this year with the semis currently underway. We already have our B3 Senior side and our C2 Sunday side through to the GF. Both our U14 teams, the Eagle Hawks and the Falcon Hawks are also through to the big dance. This Saturday our A3 team will be fighting out the second day of their semi so hopefully they will join the others. Our two other U13 teams both just missed out making it through but had very successful seasons. Commiserations to all of those teams which played. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the captains and the team coaches in the junior grades for getting their players onto the field each week. Thanks again to Ray Frazer, Kathy Casey and Eddie Mills for all their efforts prior to and during the season. Much of their work goes unnoticed by the players but it is certainly not missed by me. Thanks guys. Please keep Saturday 9 th September free for our club Presentation Night for winter. Thus far it has been a very successful season with many personal milestones to be acknowledged on that night and hopefully a few Premierships to be accredited to the Hawks. We will start at about 5.00pm with a BBQ at the shade structure and trophies then to be presented at around 5.30pm. I hope that all of our new players this season enjoyed themselves and we hope to see you back again next winter or maybe even sticking around for the summer season. Thanks again for a great season and good luck to all those final bound teams. Steve Casey

Our opposition came prepared for the match and brought in some big guns to do the job. We won the toss and elected to bat, our batsmen followed the well established path of losing early wickets (3/19) after 9 overs, including two ducks. Andrew was the only constant throughout the 1st half of our innings. Sam made a good attempt at keeping the scoreboard ticking before the wicket-keeper knocked his bails off. Will and Dean provided some much needed fireworks during their 75 run partnership to the finish line and a seemingly defendable total. The opposition openers didn t hang around for long, bringing the big hitters to the crease, steadily chipping away at our lead. The drinks break once again gave us a welcome reprieve and wickets finally started falling, Andrew taking 3 in one over and seeing the opposition8 for 160 in the 34th over, needing 9 runs off 6 balls. Entering the Super-Sub let s leave it at that!!!! Onwards to the next match!!! The 1st day was a frustrating battle for the team. Batsmen were blocking ball after ball, those making runs faced over 100 balls each for scores of 25 and 36, reflected in the 24 maidens bowled from 75 overs. Cricket is never dull from the scorer s table. Hopefully the final match of the comp rounds will be less exciting. Field 1 at Marchant doesn t seem to like our team and takes great pleasure in throwing us the odd curve ball every now and then. Playing for a spot in the semi s, let s hope we can turn it around in our favour. At least the duck season appears to be over, every batsman scoring runs this time, leading the charge is Will, with some confident hitting, let s hope the next match will give him the opportunity to raise his bat in salute. What a performance gentlemen, bowling the opposition out twice in the 32nd over of both Innings. Full credit to our bowling attack this game, a total of four 3-wicket hauls and a solid focus on the task at hand, never mind how many runs the opposition scored initially. Big hitting brings wickets eventually and the bowlers patiently waited for the wrong shot to capitalise. Sensational batting by Dean and Sam on Day 2 kept the scoreboard ticking over steadily, Dean lead from the front as fill-in skipper for our chillin Captain somewhere overseas. 16 well-hit fours saw Dean reach 50 and shortly thereafter 100 in style. Sam supported well with a solid half-century not out, because of that stellar performance there will be no lawsuit about the cricket ball somehow hitting the scorers car. Nicely timed shot Sammy, no hard feelings. A big Thank you to Paul Bowen for borrowing the whites and giving the team a hand or two in the field, well done. Thank you also to Nathan Brown for filling-in, we have missed you.
