MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE UPDATE The association held its AGM at the University of Queensland Cricket Club on Tuesday 10 May At that meeting and a following delegates meeting held on Tuesday 27 June 2017 (held at Wests Cricket Club), the following Management Committee members were elected for this season. On behalf of the association, I would like to thank the previous Management Committee for their efforts, to place the association in a good position going forward. In particular, the incoming Management Committee would like to thank Nev Conway, as outgoing President, Craig Hurst, as outgoing Secretary and Keith Tonkin, as outgoing Treasurer for their service and efforts. REGISTRATION FEES FOR SEASON AND INSURANCE It is proposed to maintain the registration fees consistent with the fees for the 2016/17 season, adjusted to reflect the different number of players per team. The registration cost per team is as follows: Under $110/team Under 10 - $80/team Super 7s - $65/team Clubs will be invoiced in October. Please note: Clubs are only invoiced based upon the number of teams that are entered into the pre-christmas competition. Clubs are reminded to renew their insurance via MyCricket as soon as possible. Insurance could be updated from 1 July Once clubs have renewed their insurance, they are to send to MSW, via to secretary@mswcricket.com, a copy of their insurance certificate. Please note: Clubs will not be able to participate in any MSW competition until they have provided a copy of their insurance certificate. 2 P a g e

3 3. SEASON DATES At the delegates meeting on 1 August 2017, the dates for the upcoming summer of cricket were finalised. All Clubs are currently being engaged by Queensland Cricket representatives John Butterworth and Matt Conwell regarding the proposed changes, trials to date and reasons/benefits, which ties to seeking to improve the cricketing experience for our younger players. All Clubs are encouraged to engage with John and Matt. The MSW Management Committee and delegates have also given this topic careful consideration and for this season are proposing to implement change (through a trial initially, then review) in the Super 8, Under 10 and Under 11 age groups. This is intended to be Stage 1 (of a potentially staged approach over the next 3 years) that will seek to minimise impacts, while potentially progressing to the new formats. The MSW Rules are currently being updated to reflect the changes and will be distributed to the Clubs in the near future. It is also proposed to investigate a rules night or Webinar to work through the changes with our Clubs and coaches, prior to the season. 3 P a g e

4 In summary, the following changes will apply: Super 8s will become Super 7s Same age group as per last season - ideally Under 8 boys and Under 10 girls, but with ability based flexibility 7 players on field 20 overs each innings Batters face even number of balls, not in pairs Bowling overs shared evenly, with exception of wicket-keepers Pitch length increases to 16m Under 10s Number of players- reduced from 11 to 8 on field Games length down from 30 to 20 overs, duration from 3 ½ hours to 2 hours Scheduling- likely 7:50am and 10 am starts Goal is for batters to face even number of balls Div1 batters get 1 life in first 6 balls and can t return at end if dismissed at any stage Div2 batters get 2 lives in first 6 balls and can return at end of innings 2 players each wicket-keep for 10 overs Bowling overs otherwise shared as evenly as possible Pitch length reduced from 18 to 16m Under 11s Pitch length reduced from 20m to 18m No other changes for P a g e

TEAMS, FIELDS, NOMINATIONS AND DRAW Team nominations All Clubs are required to provide their team nominations for the Pre-Christmas competition to the MSW Secretary at by Friday 15 th September Clubs are required to complete the attached spreadsheet with the correct name of each team and the preferred division that clubs want the team to play in. All efforts will be made to ensure teams play in the division they nominate for, but there are no guarantees. Given teams in the U10 age group will play back-to-back this season, Clubs are also encouraged to pair their team in this age group, where possible (understood this will not be completely possible where there are an odd number of teams being nominated). Field nominations All Clubs are also required to provide their field nominations to the MSW Secretary at by Friday 15 th September Clubs are encouraged to link or nominate fields for a particular age group or teams. This makes the process of the draw more effective. The draw Once all teams and field nominations have been received, the draw will be created. The draw will then be published on MyCricket by no later than Tuesday, 3 rd October As in previous years, teams should check MyCricket each Thursday before a game. If there are any changes after that time, teams will be contacted directly. 6. CLUB AND TEAM CONTACTS All Clubs are required, as in previous years, to provide the contact details for each coach and manager (and age group coordinator, if applicable) for all teams that play in the MSW competition this year. 6 7. MSW REPRESENTATIVE CRICKET PROGRAM CARNIVALS, TRIALS AND PATHWAY PROGRAM AND COACHING EOI Carnivals MSW will field teams at the same carnivals this coming season, as per last year. The carnivals and venues are summarised below. State Championship venues (December 11-15, 2017) Under 12 QJC Rockhampton Under 13 QJC Gold Coast Under 14 Qld Cricket Brisbane Under 15 QJC Sunshine Coast Development Carnival venues (January 8-12, 2018) Under 12 Healy Cup (two teams) Albany Creek Under 13 Far North Coast Junior Cricket Ballina Under 13 Les Kinnane Cup Ipswich Under 14 Summer carnival Sunshine Coast Representative team trials The dates and venues for representative team trials for the representative program have been finalised as follows: Under 12 and 13: 9am 11:30am Sunday 8 th, 15 th and 22 nd October Macgregor Cricket Club, Granadilla St, Macgregor (the final day will be a centre wicket trial, it is possible the Under 13s will play this trial at another venue to be advised) Under 14: 5pm 7pm Monday 9 th, 16 th October (Wests Cricket Club, Oxley Road Graceville) and centre wicket 1pm 4pm Sunday 22 nd October (venue to be advised) Under 15: 5pm 7pm Monday 9 th and 16 th October at Wests Cricket Club, Oxley Road, Graceville. This trial will be also be open to cricketers who play Lord Taverners or Shane Watson Cup, provided the player has also committed to play a minimum of 2 games of junior cricket on Saturday morning, with a MSW associated Club 6 P a g e

7 Attendance at and registration for representative trials As in previous seasons, we request Clubs to maintain an oversight of the players nominating to attend at the representative trials, i.e. the Clubs should be comfortable the player attending is of the appropriate standard. We also request that Clubs ask their interested players to keep an eye on the MSW website, for on-line registration and indemnity forms. For those players who have filled out an indemnity form as part of the 2017/18 Pathway Program, it will not be necessary to fill out the form again. MSW Pathway Program MSW are currently running our Pathway (bronze rookie) program for approximately 40 of our cricketers, who currently sit just below the Queensland Cricket pathway program. The primary age groups are our Under 12 and 13 cricketers from last season, with players specifically identified based on the team they played in and their performance. To date, the MSW Pathway program has been successful. Thank you to Anu Perera, our assistant Junior Director of Coaching, for his efforts in organising facilities and the coaching group. In addition, our U12 QJC team from last season recently played a match at Allan Border field versus Gold Coast under the new formats. It was a great experience for the boys who represented MSW very well. Coaching Expression of Interest In recent years, MSW has adopted a policy of sourcing coaches for our representative teams who are independent of the team. This policy has worked well, however, we are always on the look-out for new coaches. Should there be interest from any coach from our Clubs to coach a representative team in 2017/18, please provide a brief expression of interest to the Junior Director of Coaching at president@mswcricket.com. The expressions of interest should include: Contact details Coaching and playing experience Coaching level Endorsement from the Club Evidence of Blue Card including details 7 P a g e

8 Note that expressions of interest will not be considered for coaching at a certain age group should the nominee be a parent of a child playing at the same age group level. It would be acceptable to coach at a different age group level (using the principle of independence). All MSW coaches are reimbursed $500 for their efforts and costs. All applications will be considered and a short discussion/interview with the candidate undertaken. Please note, there is no guarantee that an expression of interest will lead to a coaching role, this decision will sit entirely with the Management Committee. 8. GIRLS CRICKET This year, MSW has appointed Ben Ingram to the role of Girls Cricket Coordinator. Ben will work with each of the Clubs (and your respective coordinators) with a view of growing girls cricket within MSW and to drive certain initiatives. The vision over the next 2-3 years is that MSW Clubs (individually or combined) will be able to field teams within an all-girls competition. This could be initially external (Heat Girls League) or eventually an internal MSW competition. In the interim (noting the time it will take to grow participation) and following consultation with Club delegates, it is proposed MSW will enter and coordinate all girls teams (11-13 age group plus potentially an older team) to compete in the Heat Girls League at Tingalpa. This is not intended to compete with Clubs in establishing girls cricket teams or for girls to play in mixed teams on Saturday mornings. As above, the vision is that, within the next few years, the Clubs will house the teams. A snapshot of the girls cricket options for the 2017/18 season is provided below. 10 9. KEITH DUDGEON CRICKET BALLS, SCOREBOOKS AND SPONSORSHIP Cricket Balls Keith Dudgeon Cricket Specialist (KD) is the official supplier of cricket balls to MSW for this season. Each Club will be able to access the draw and results at the MyCricket website for the week to week competition as well as the results of our representative teams. To find our association, go the MyCricket website and search under clubs for Metropolitan South West District Cricket Inc. All teams are also required to enter the match result and individual scores into MyCricket by no later than midnight the Wednesday immediately following the conclusion of the game. If the match result and individual score are not entered into MyCricket by that time then the MSW management committee shall notify the club that it has 7 days to enter the match result, or to confirm the result entered by the opponent. Failing to do so will result in the deduction of half of the competition points for that round. While there will be no penalty applied, it remains strongly recommended that all individual scores are entered into MyCricket. 10 P a g e

11 11. BLUE CARDS Clubs are reminded to ensure all coaches, managers and administrators at their club have a Blue Card. Furthermore, Clubs are also reminded that they fulfil all of the obligations with respect to Blue Cards. This is an important part of each Club s obligations to ensure the safety of the children under their care. -ENDS- 11 P a g e
