2 ANNUAL REPORT: President s Report Ian Reeves read his President s report included in the Annual Report and thanked all affiliated clubs and the management committee for their work during the past season. Treasurer s Report The player fees structure and amount was kept the same again this year as last year. The financial statements for the 2016/17 year record a net surplus of $31,940. This was a good outcome as we had extra outlays over last year for Girls Cricket, increased Secretary payment, extra grants to clubs and a reduced registration fee amount, with less players signing on this year, giving us a substantial reduction in surplus. Net assets were $211,789 last year and they have increased to $243,960 as at 30 June 2017, providing a strong financial base for the future activities of the Association. It is unknown what the future holds regarding oval costs at schools and possible future construction of more pitches and the Association needs to be in a position in which it will be able to support these activities and all the clubs. Draw Committee Report Bruce Boland referred to his report in the Annual Report and thanked Steve Casey and Glyn Netto for their Draw assistance, Geoff Cowles for his input to the Rules, Ian Rushton for MyCricket assistance and his fellow committee members for their support during the year. Director of Coaching report The 2016/17 Representative season has been another successful one for our association and for a number of our past and present players. The Reevesie Cup and Anstey La Frantz Shield competitions were again tightly contested and the selection of players for Under 13 and Under 14 representative teams were contemplated for many hours by our head selectors in those age groups, Ian Reeves and Bryan Hadden. We believe we have the selection process for these two age groups at close to an optimal level. We still get asked about Saturday statistics and why they are not considered but the standard of play in these two competitions is telling us that our processes are robust. We have had enquiries from coaches and administrators outside of Brisbane North in regard to our processes in these age groups and a lot of enthusiasm as to how they could run similar competitions. We see this as positive reinforcement for what we are doing in this space. Our rep teams performed well in December and January with most teams finishing near the top of the ladder with the U12 and U15 Championships finishing on top and the U13 Ballina team named as a joint winner for that competition. Individual players from Brisbane North have also been recognised for their current form. 2
3 Hayden Brough, Will Campbell, Tom Collier, Noah McFadyen, Ned Padinson, Toby Snell, Aubrey Stockdale, Danny Young, Julia Cavanagh and Oliva Roche have been invited to participate in the Queensland Cricket Metro North East Academy. Tom Pappalardo, Will Kettleton, Connor McFadyen, Caden Sweeney, Mitch Pascoe, Jet Liebke, Will Prestwidge, Connor Sully, Ryan Walker, Julia Cavanagh, Jess Bradley, Neve Lynch, Caitlin Mair and Olivia Roche were selected to play in the Queensland Cricket Rookie challenge in April this year. A number of Brisbane North players were selected in Queensland U13 and U15 Schoolboys and Schoolgirls teams (we do not have a complete list of selections as these are not provided by Queensland Schools Sports) Jet Liebke, Mitch Pascoe and Will Prestwidge were selected in the Cricket Australia U16 and they will complete in the National U17 championship in September. Will Kettleton and Will Sanders have been selected in the Queensland U17 team Jemma Barsby is on contract with the Queensland Fire and Brisbane Heat Joe Burns, Jack Widermuth are on contract with the Queensland Bulls and the Brisbane Heat while Jack Prestwidge and Bryce Street have Rookie contracts with the Queensland Bulls Mitch Swepson is part of the National Performace Squad and has played for Australia A Mens and is touring with the Australia Mens side. Matt Renshaw is on contract with Cricket Australia Preliminary selections have been completed for U12 trials, the Reevesie Cup competition and the Anstey La Frantz Shield competition. The preliminary trials for U15 have also been held. We expect another strong season of representative cricket and this coming season we are looking at sending a girls representative team away as part of our drive to lead the way in girls cricket. Motion: To Accept all Reports Moved: Seconded: Ian Reeves Laurie Hallam Patron s Message I congratulate Brisbane North Junior Cricket Association on their initiative to introduce under 15 and lower age group all girls matches this season. There are certainly encouraging signs ahead for this competition. The girls have responded in good numbers during this inaugural season and there has been encouraging feedback from everyone involved. By allowing younger children to play the game of cricket at an early age is testament to the retention rate and consequently the massive growth of this association over many years. This association also continues to grow due to the passion and dedication of all the club officials, coaches and managers. 3
