1 No nominations MET THE CRITERIA this year Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within its Laws but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to the game itself. The Spirit of the Game involves respect for: Your opponents Your own captain and team The role of the umpires The game's traditional values The BNJCA supports the Spirit of Cricket, as embodied in the preamble to the Laws of Cricket, in a tangible way, with a Spirit of Cricket Award. The Association accepts nominations from clubs for a player displaying the true spirit, traditions, and values of cricket. The player must be playing in a BNJCA competition. This award does not apply to adults. In order for a club to nominate a player, the action must be at the player s instigation, not a result of an adult s intervention. The nomination can come from anyone involved in the game; other players, umpire, coach or spectators, but must be made through the affiliated club of the nominating person. Committee Comment on the Australians during the third test in South Africa 2018: What is so wrong with the morals of the Australian cricket team that its captain and vicecaptain were willing to trash their ethics in pursuit of a minor on-field advantage? What has become of the Bradman creed in which cricket is "more free from anything sordid, anything dishonourable, than any game in the world"? Where, to play the game "keenly, honourably, self-sacrificingly, is a moral lesson in itself"? The BNJCA Management Committee was shocked and disappointed to hear the reports of ball tampering by Australian players during the third test in South Africa. These actions by players at the highest level of our game have undermined the standards promoted by Cricket administrators at all levels and the standing of our game within the Australian community. We have always required players to follow the laws and the spirit of Cricket when playing in BNJCA competitions or representing BNJCA at carnivals and championships, and we have also promoted the etiquette of cricket. We will continue to require the same high standards that we have always required and we encourage all junior players to follow the laws of cricket, play within the spirit of cricket and above all, participate for enjoyment. 17 Champion Player Awards In the Champion Player Award, the points were awarded as shown in the table below and were able to be tabulated straight from MyCricket player stats. It was obviously extremely important that the player stats are entered for every game otherwise a player may miss out on the award. A Trophy for each age group, from 11 to Open is awarded and their name is then added to the Perpetual Trophy for that age group. Both Pre-Xmas and Post-Xmas competitions had separate awards and there is a separate Perpetual Trophy for each age group. Pre Xmas Champion Player winners Post Xmas Champion Player winners
