2 The President s Bat Welcome to the last Hawk Talk for the 2018/ 2019 season. Last weekend saw the conclusion of both our junior and senior Warehouse fixtures. The senior teams play semi-finals this weekend. We had a record number of 38 teams playing in the juniors with three senior teams playing in the Warehouse Competition. This year we had three teams winning four BNJCA Premierships. Congratulations to Frank Hogan and Jason Black and their U13 Eagle Hawks who won both the Pre-Xmas premiership and the Post Xmas premiership. Jason took over from Frank after Xmas when many of the Pre-Xmas team went off to play school cricket. Francois Basson and Col Wade won their respective premierships in the U15 Post-Xmas and U14 Pre-Xmas comps. We had sixteen boys who made Brisbane North representative teams which played all over the State before and after Xmas. These players made wonderful contributions to their rep teams and I am sure their club sides have benefitted from their experience. All three of our senior sides are playing in Warehouse semi-finals this weekend. Many of these players have come through our junior ranks. I would like to wish them well. At this time of the year there are many people to thank as clubs of our size do not just happen. To all the people on the committee and their partners/spouses, I thank you for the countless hours of dedicated service. Kathy Casey, our Statistician, has been very busy these past few weeks preparing all the trophies and the list of recipients for today s presentation. Eddie Mills has been tireless in her efforts with the Hawk Talk, and also in her role as Warehouse Registrar. Warren Stevens has prepared the pitches for our Friday night games. Peter McFarlane has kept our web site maintained. Once again John Murray has done an excellent job as our club Registrar. Our Treasurer, Ray Frazer controls the finances of this club. The Ian Healy Cup was very successful again this year and I would like to thank Kathy Casey, Eddie Mills, Peter McFarlane and Ross Duncan for their efforts throughout the week. Thank you one and all. A special thanks also to all our coaches and managers who have put in the hard yards on a weekly basis. Many of these people have been at the club for five or six years or more and their contribution has been invaluable. The fact that these coaches keep coming back says a lot for us as a club and is responsible for the stability and confidence that you as parents have in the care that they exercise over your children. To all the parents who have assisted with scoring and generally organising the boys on Saturday morning and Friday nights, I extend a huge thank you. Our major sponsor LJ Hooker of Albany Creek has certainly allowed us to keep our fees down and thus keep more children on the fields. We have several minor sponsors as well whose ongoing commitment to the club are much appreciated. Please continue to support these wonderful local people. Thanks for your support. I would like to congratulate all those players who are receiving trophies on Sunday. They wouldn t have received those awards unless their team mates took the catches or stayed with them while they were batting. You are all winners. Well done! Thanks to the players for the way you played the games throughout the season. Recently the Albany Creek Cricket Club participated in the Pink Stumps Fundraising campaign. We had another successful year raising just under $3000. Thank you to all of those people involved. Thanks also to our local politicians, Mike Charlton, Tim Mander and Peter Dutton who generously donated money and prizes for our raffle. Over the winter months our north field will be undergoing major upgrade works. The pitch is being moved about six metres to the east to be more central, the sprinkler system is being replaced and then all new turf will be added. The field will be laser-levelled to remove many of the low spots that currently cause puddles. The nets will still be available. The field should be ready by about August. I wish you all many pleasant sleep-ins on Saturday mornings and look forward to seeing you all next summer. Steve Casey

5 How Are The Winners Of Team Trophies Determined? We like to remind everyone at the start of the season about how the trophy winners are determined for the team awards, so here s the drum: At the end of the season, there are three trophies awarded for each team: 1. Batting Award 2. Bowling Award 3. Coaches Award In the past there has been some confusion as to how the winners of these trophies are determined. Set out below are the basic guidelines used to determine the winners: 1. The Batting Award is always decided first. The best average is used to determine the winner in senior grades [U11 Open Divisions] while the junior grades [U8 U10] are determined by the best aggregate total {unless there is a draw, in which case averages will be used to determine the winner]. For senior grades, this player MUST have played in 50% or more of the team matches and be in the top 50% of run scorers. The Batting Average is calculated by dividing the number of times the batter has been out into the total runs scored for the season e.g. 125 runs divided by 5 outs will give an average of The Bowling Award is decided second. [The winner of the Batting Award is not eligible for this award.] Again, the best average is used to determine the winner in senior grades [U11 Open Divisions] while the junior grades [U8 U10] are determined by the best aggregate total {unless there is a draw, in which case averages will be used to determine the winner]. For senior grades, this player MUST have played in 50% or more of the team matches and be in the top 50% of wicket takers. The Bowling Average is calculated by dividing the number of wickets taken by the bowler into the number of runs scored against. e.g. 100 runs against divided by 5 wickets will give an average of The Coaches Award.is decided third. [The winners of the Batting or Bowling Award are not eligible for this award] This award is decided by the Coach and may be given for any reason what so ever. For example, the Coach may decide to award it to a player who may not have been amongst the best batters or bowlers but had displayed a great attitude towards the game, his team and his coach, both on match day and at training. Individual Trophies!! There are also lots of other trophies award for certain milestones and events. For example: Hat Tricks 5 or more Wickets in an Innings (U11 Open Divisions) 4 x 50 runs in an innings (U11 Open Divisions) Centuries 50 Wickets in junior (U8-U10) or senior (U11 Open Divisions) age group 1,000 Runs in junior (U8-U10) or senior (U11 Open Divisions) age group Cricketer of the Year (U11 Open Divisions) Half-Season Cricketer of the Year (U11 Open Divisions) Significant milestones and events are also tracked in our Honour Board. This is a wonderful living file that records an archive of our clubs history, including the top 10 junior and senior batsmen and bowlers for the season. If you haven t seen it and are interested in receiving a copy of the file, please send an to the club statistician on accc.stats@albanycreekcricketclub.com.au.

Fletcher batted brilliantly, hitting 5 fours in his knock of 27. Also Kai, Oliver and Blake adding some much needed runs. Darcey was the pick of the bowlers with 1/18 of his 2 overs. Man of the match went to Kai for his 23 runs and nice tight bowling. Cameron/Steve/Vanessa Richard James Wet Weather Information is posted on Facebook, so don t forget to... This worked a treat as we saved several overthrows and managed to contain the White Hawks to a manageable total. Pick of the Bowlers was Matthew who was on a hat-trick and bowled a brilliant ball to try to claim his first hat-trick, but the batter was too good this time and kept it out, it would have smashed into stump-cam too!! Kallum also chimed in with a wicket. When batting our focus was to limit the easy wickets we were giving away. We more than halved our usual wicket tally, which is a credit to the concentration of both batters when deciding a run. As a bonus we also scored 5 two s, a team record!! A super effort by Baxter in this department. Param ran well as did Captain Shabad who kept the score ticking over in the middle overs. A great all-round effort from the Grey Hawks!! Onwards and upwards!! Aiden was backed up well by Lachie, Ben and Lucy edging out total towards 100. Axel and Ben got us off to a good start with the ball, keeping the runs to a minimum but it was short lived as the White Hawk batsman fired up and played some terrific shots in passing the runs required to win. It is great to see our new players Lucy and Isaac continually improving with the ball and I look forward to them finishing off the season well. Greens won the toss and elected to field first, the Blacks doing really well and hitting some great shots, as we ve seen this year there is quite a big difference between the 8 s and 9 s but the younger kids hit a fair few boundaries. The intention was clear when we came out to bat with Ryan hitting the first 2 balls over the boundary, everyone batted well and contributed which led to our biggest score of the year and two of the boys going past 50. Well played boys. Carl Holder

Tight bowling from Charlie, Tom Dixon and Fionn. Great fielding from the Wedgwood s. Sam making some great saves and Milly rocketing the throws back to the stumps to earn Man of Match. Congrats to Coby and Hudson on there new high scores. It was another tight fielding display with 5 run outs. Well done white hawks. Only 3 games to go in the season lets finish off strongly. Paul

The start of the game saw particularly quick bowling from Reds, but Cooper Lennon and Noah managed to put on some reasonable runs with Cooper smashing a bowler over his head for 6. AC Blue managed to alot 169 runs. Red Hawks applied the pressure from the start with great batting all round. The typical AC Blue fielding quality wasn t great in the first 10 overs, but with the help of Ryan and Lachlan Manttan we came back in the last 10 overs. Unfortunately the game was already lost with Red s managing to a lot a score of 201. M. Willemse / J. GAME REPORT: A wet start to the morning where the gods tried to put a dampener on our game but the coaches agreed it was good to play with a 10 minute delay. Redcliffe-Sandgate electing to bat after winning the toss. The White Hawks took 9 wickets in total with Mitchell Ring taking 2/9. One Wicket each to Noah Coleman, Jack O'Sullivan and Will Hammond rounded off a really good consistent bowling innings. White Hawks batting was very consistent through the entire batting order with Mitchell Ring (21) top scoring and Kyan Lloyd (19) with solid performances. With the overnight rain the wicket had plenty of life keeping our batsmen on the backfoot. Best scores were Thomas Quine (37), Josh Brown (18) and Windsor Walters (16) for a team total of 7/ was always going to be a difficult total to defend and the Falcon Hawks bowled extremely well with best figures of Jeremy Pais 3/2, Thomas Quine 2/21 and Carson Thorne 1/18. Unfortunately Falcon Hawks weren t able to keep Toombul at bay with Toombul scoring a fantastic winning score of 7/147. Close game and great viewing. Well done to both teams. Jose Pais / Carl Thorne

A real team batting performance with everyone contributing against a very strong bowling team. We then followed this up with some of our best line and length bowling this year which was well supported in the field. The game came down to the last ball which saw the batsman hold his nerve (despite all the pressure his teammates where putting on him). Again great game by both teams. Rod Lennon Page 22

We did well to hold in there on the 2 nd day with only six players. And so having won the toss and decided to bat the team were skittled with some good accurate bowling from the Valley Black team within 28 overs with only Joshua and Luke making it to double figures. Valley then started to bat, and some tidy opening bowling were at 1/34 of 8 overs, but ended up at the close of day one at 3/217 of 25 overs, with one batsman scoring 105 off 50 balls before retiring not out. It was a good lesson for the boys that bowling poorly gets punished by the better batting teams, and the boys will need to think more about where they put the ball when bowling to minimize the 4 s and 6 s. Aidan Bowers was lethal with ball in hand and well supported by Shoni each taking 2xW, Shoni s included a C&B in his first over. Riley cleaned bowled his batsman with a late in swinger, and the Hawks were tight in the field with run outs coming from Bailey and Shoni during the innings. GAME REPORT: Black Hawks won the toss and elected to field (see above). When it came time to bat - Lucas Johnson followed up a solid last innings with another ripper this week including two massive 6 s! Rhino Hosking was as brutal as ever with the bat and Shoni Pyne continued his late season form with the bat. Aidan Ansh and Bailey also contributed good, double figure scores to the tally. Man of the Match: Riley Hosking & Mitchell Parker UNDER 10 Vance Pyne / Ross Hosking BLUE HAWKS 23/03/ st Inn 167 Everton Comets 61 Batting: Ryan Willemse 30 Jack Duncan 23 Noah Eichmann 21 Bowling: Sam Carter 4/6 Jack Duncan 3/7 Levi Tweddell 3/9 GAME REPORT: Blue Hawks fielded first. Some tight bowling on a muggy morning kept Comets down to 49runs off the bat. Blue hawks opening bats closed that down in the first partnership with Ryan Willemse and Cooper Lennon getting 50runs. Jack Duncan then chipped in with a dependable 23 and Naoh closed the innings out with 21. All really good scores on a muddy outfield, which played more like the MCG than an U10 field. Great Season Boys.. been a priviledge to coach you all. M Willemse / J Mantann

GAME REPORT: The boys got to take the field after last week s washout and headed into the final game of the season. The White Hawks bowled first and did so with great accuracy. In fact one of the best bowling innings of the season with minimal wides. Will Hammond, Jack O Sullivan, and Nicholas Lawrence all took 2 wickets each. White Hawks turn to bat and Mitchell Ring (31) was brilliant hitting (1) six and (5) fours, while top scoring. William Carr and Kyan Lloyd both shared a great score of 22. Great catches in the outfield by Kyan, Mitchell and Lucas was proving the constant catching training was paying off. Awesome game White Hawks and a nice way to finish the season with plenty of effort and teamwork. Thanks for the season boys!!! MOM Nicholas Lawrence. A catch each to Eshaan and Sam. 2 wickets taken by Roman and runs out each to Jaiden, Sam and Louis. Wicket each by Jaiden, Sam, Louis, Eshaan and Noah. GAME REPORT: It always boils down to the wire when playing the home team U11 Falcon Hawks. We just lost by 9 runs and it was an exciting game, when the scores depends on the final over. Well played to both the teams for displaying brilliant cricket for the last game of the season. Thanks for all the support from the parents and with assisting the season scoring. For the boys that have enrolled in winter cricket ENJOY!!. Whilst others taking a break, have fun with your chosen winter sport and will commence the next summer season for the U12s. Falcon Hawks loss the toss with the opposition deciding to bat. The opposition started with some strong batting however the Falcon Hawks were able to keep their total to 9/163 with some very accurate bowling and great fielding. Best bowling went to Josh Brown 2/15, Pranav Ajarrapu 1/2 and Windsor Walters 1/14. Catches made the difference also with Carson Thorne and Thomas Quine both taking 2 catches each. The boys all new it was going to be a tough total to chase down however all the boys chipped in for a total of 9/172 to pip the Eagles by 9 runs. Special mention goes to Windsor Walters who had the pressure of facing the last 2 overs himself however his maturity came through scoring the winning runs while keeping his wicket. Best batting for the Falcon Hawks was Carson Thorne 31, Thomas Quine 30 and Windsor Walters 16. Was great to watch a close final game for the season! Well done fellas! You have all exceeded expectations this year and your coach and manager would like to thank you for the manner you have played the game all year. You re a great bunch of kids. Some tight bowling from the boys had Ferny s run rate at around 4 to 5 for the whole innings and the turning point in the game was the 3 wicket maiden by Noah in the 23 rd over. Dot, wicket, dot, wicket, dot, wicket. 2 catches from behind the stumps for Jack and one in the outfield from Zak gave Noah his 3 wickets, and some tight fielding kept the runs to zero. Great team effort boys. Some good solid hitting from Jack at the start of the innings got the team going to 1/53 in only the 7 th over, however the Hawks looked in trouble loosing many middle order batsman. But Riley stood tall when all those around him were walking bat to the sheds and finished the season with a great 22 not out. The winning runs were great shots by Zak smashing a 4 and then finishing off the innings with a tremendous 6 to the cheers of the team from the boundary. A big thank you to Vaishnav s dad, who became the first person to score a match on his mobile phone (ever ) and has been given an honorary degree from University for his new skill!!! Our openers faced a very tight initial bowling attack, but soon broke the back of it and ran the score down. A great way to end a great season, played with great sportsmanship. Francois Basson
