11 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (OUT & ABOUT ABU DHABI): Premier Inn:- All participants will be staying at the Premier Inn Abu Dhabi Capital Centre. The hotel is located next to Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre near Al Karamah Street. The hotel has 4 fully air-conditioned rooms, with unlimited free Wi-Fi access to keep you connected throughout your stay. Each room features an en-suite bathroom, a flat screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities and a work desk, and if you need anything their friendly staff would be more than happy to help. You can relax on the hotel s swimming pool, whirlpool Jacuzzi and gymnasium during your stay. A free shuttle bus service runs to many popular destinations like to Yas Island, Ferrari World Theme Park, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the Abu Dhabi Corniche.

12 Emirates Bowling Village:- is a spacious entertainment centre that offers the perfect mix of sporting fun and family entertainment. Comprising of 8 lanes and 4 VIP lanes with Brunswick GSX bowling machines, a total capacity of 96 (Bowlers and Spectators) and touch screen score boards with friendly service and an inviting atmosphere.

13 Formula circuit at Yas Island:- Yas Marina Circuit is the United Arab Emirates most exciting sporting and entertainment multi-purpose venue. Located on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, the circuit is home to the annual FORMULA ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX and much more. In addition to the extensive year-round program of professional and grassroots motorsport events and experiences including Drag and Yas Track Nights, the circuit has emerged as a thriving hub for entertainment and community events in the UAE. 3

14 4 Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque:- is the largest mosque in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), 8 th largest in the world and is considered to be the key for worship in the country. It was initiated by the late president of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who wanted to establish a structure which unites the cultural diversity of Islamic world, the historical and modern values of architecture and art. His final resting place is located on the grounds beside the same mosque. The mosque s design and construction "unites the world", using artisans and materials from many countries including India, Italy, Germany, Morocco, Pakistan, Turkey, Malaysia, Iran, China, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Republic of Macedonia and United Arab Emirates. Among the distinctive highlights of the mosque is the courtyard with its floral design which is considered to be the largest example of marble mosaic in the world, the 35-ton carpet (predominantly made from wool) in the main prayer hall which is considered to be the world's largest carpet and seven Germanimported chandeliers that incorporate millions of Swarovski crystals. The largest chandelier is the second largest known chandelier inside a mosque, the third largest in the world. The pools along the arcades reflect the mosque's spectacular columns, which becomes even more glorious at night reflecting the phases of the moon. Beautiful bluish gray clouds are projected in lights onto the external walls and get brighter and darker according to the phase of the moon. The 96 columns in the main prayer hall are clad with marble and inlaid with mother of pearl, one of the few places with this craftsmanship. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is well known for its diverse Islamic architecture and pure white colour. White marble clads the

15 external walls and columns and features relief carving of verses from Holy Quran and Islamic ornamentation. 5

16 6 Presidential Palace:- The new Presidential Palace is a landmark that helps emphasize Abu Dhabi s role as a leader within the UAE and the GCC. The Palace is utilized to house the offices of H.H. The President, H.H. The Vice President, H.H. The Crown Prince, and the Ministers. The facility serves an important role as the primary governmental facility for receiving visiting dignitaries. The location of the Presidential Palace is Ras Al Akhdar peninsula adjacent to the Emirates Palace Hotel. The Presidential Palace encompasses approximately 50 hectares and includes the Palace and the required ancillary buildings. The Common Areas of the Palace includes a Main Entrance Hall, Main Hall, Fountain Courtyard, Media Hall and a Press Centre. The ancillary buildings includes a Public Majlis, Mosque, Staff and Military Accomodations, a Services Compound, and various Gatehouses and Watchtowers.

17 7 Emirates Palace:- Unprecedented luxury in the heart of Abu Dhabi is what Emirates Palace is all about. Emirates Palace is the essence of palatial yet traditional Arabic architecture. A site to behold, the Palace is truly one of the most inspiring hotels in Abu Dhabi with 4 breath-taking 8-meter-high domes, ornate hotel rooms and luxury suites decorated in gold and marble. Just after the first hall on the left, you will see one of the curiosities which have brought the attention of the European medias: a distributor of gold. It's like a distributor of cans or snickers, except that this one delivers gold. Prices range from 500 AED to 000 AED. The most unbelievable is that many people buy a few grams of gold as a souvenir of their stay at this hotel.

18 8 Masdar City:- Designed by the British architectural firm Foster and Partners, the city relies on solar energy and other renewable energy sources. Masdar City hosts the headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Masdar is a sustainable mixed-use development designed to be very friendly to pedestrians and cyclists. Masdar City has terracotta walls decorated with arabesque patterns. From a distance, the city looks like a cube. The temperature in the streets is generally 5 to 0 C (7 to 36 F) cooler than the surrounding desert. The temperature difference is due to Masdar's unique construction. A 45-meter-high (48 ft) wind tower modeled on traditional Arab designs sucks air from above and pushes a cooling breeze through Masdar's streets. The site is raised above the surrounding land to create a slight cooling effect. Buildings are clustered close together to create streets and walkways shielded from the sun. Masdar City is successfully pioneering a greenprint for how cities can accommodate rapid urbanisation and dramatically reduce energy, water and waste.

19 9 Heritage Village:- This reconstructed village gives an insight into the pre-oil era in the UAE a life that is still in evidence in many parts of the Arabian Peninsula to this day. The walled complex includes all the main elements of traditional Gulf life: a fort to repel invaders from the sea, a souq to trade goats for dates with friendly neighbours, and a mosque as a reminder of the central part that Islam plays in daily Arabic life. Traditional aspects of the desert way of life, including a campfire with coffee pots, a goats hair tent, and a falaj irrigation system, are attractively displayed in the open museum. There are workshops where craftsmen demonstrate traditional skills, such as metal work and pottery, while women sit weaving and spinning. The craftsmen are happy to share their skills, and may occasionally give you the chance to try them out. The little spice shop is a treat you can get a range of dried herbs, handmade soap and plenty of chatter.

20 0 Corniche: - The Corniche Road spreads across an impressive eight kilometres of manicured waterfront that includes children s play areas, separate cycle and pedestrian pathways, cafés and restaurants, and the Corniche Beach - a lifeguarded beach park. The walkways are paved and dotted with benches, gardens and amazing views of the Arabian Gulf. Abu Dhabi s pristine Corniche beachfront has been awarded coveted Blue Flag status - the internationally renowned eco-label for beaches and marinas that guarantees clean and safe bathing water. A fun and healthy way to tour the Corniche is to hire a bicycle - from mountain bikes, to city bikes which can fit two or three passengers on the back, and even specially designed bikes for ladies wearing abayas. Marina Mall is located across from the Corniche and can be accessed using a narrow breakwater road. At Marina Mall, the UAE Flag is hoisted and holds the record for being one of the tallest Flag poles in the world.
