4 Provincial Pathway: General Information This document describes the program for the GCG Provincial 1 to 6 categories. The Provincial Pathway is a modification of the FIG Junior rules. Therefore, all FIG Junior rules apply including the restricted, repetition, maximum four counting skills per Element Group, time on floor, three parts of the Pommel Horse, etc. Modifications to the FIG Junior rules include, a reduction in the number of EGRs required and the difficulty requirement of the dismount has been reduced. Article 1 Program Description i. The Provincial Pathway consists of 6 levels. ii. Provincial 1, 2 and 3 compete within their Province iii. Provincial 4 and 5 compete in Regional competition (Westerns and Eastern Championships) iv. National Open competes at the Canadian Championships. 5 Article 2: Competitive Age 2.1 The competitor s age will be based on his age as of September 1 st of the competition year. Please refer to Appendix A on page 24. Must turn at least 11 years old in the competition season Prov. 2 U10 and U12 Sept.1 st. 8 turning 9 & 9 turning turning 11 & 11 turning 12 Prov , U12, 12+ Sept.1 st. 8 turning 9 9 turning 10 & 10 turning An athlete moving into the junior program will adhere to the FIG date of birth regulations of January 1 st. 2.2 Restrictions Under no circumstance will an underage athlete be permitted to compete at Regional or National Championships Under no circumstances should an athlete who is 7 or younger compete in the Provincial Pathway. Article 3: Modifications and Committee Responsibilities i. Competitions for the Provincial Pathways Program will be organized and run Provincially and / or Nationally. ii. These regulations must be used for all events. Gymnastics Canada reserves the right to make ongoing clarifications to the regulations as needed throughout the season, but no changes to the rules will be made after September 30 th. iii. Clarifications for the Program may take place several times over the competition year. Any clarifications will be circulated to all PTO s, Program members and will be posted on the GCG website. Article 4: Competition Regulations and Equipment Specifications Note: Unless otherwise stated, the 2013 FIG Code of Points will be applied 4.1 Competitions and Warm ups i. Competition warm-ups may not begin prior to 8:00 am and competitions may not go later than 10:00 pm. ii. Athletes will receive a general warm up and apparatus warm-up prior to the start of the competition. The time limit for competition warm ups is recommended to be a minimum1.0 hour for Provincial 1,2, 3 and 4 and1.5 hours for Provincial 5 and Open 4.2 Competition Duties of Gymnast i. Gymnasts must be attired according to the stipulations of the 2013 FIG Code of Points. Note: Canadian Competitions dark coloured longs (including Black) are not allowed. ii. Gymnasts are required to wear a shirt at all times during competition warm ups (in training gym and competition gym). iii. Athletes from the same Team or club must wear the same competition attire. iv. Violation of the uniform requirements will result, without warning. 6 4.3 Spotting and Assistance: i. For all categories, it is recommended that a coach be present on Horizontal Bar to act as a spotter. ii. Whenever possible, the coach should stand such that the view of the judges is not obstructed. 4.4 Equipment i. The chart on below describes the specific equipment requirements for each category within the National Program. ii. Unless noted in the chart of apparatus requirements, the use of additional crash mats will result in a 0.50 deduction from the Final Score on that apparatus. A similar deduction will be applied for use of any non-permitted supplementary equipment. iii. Landing mats (5cm and 10cm) are permitted for use on all apparatus except Pommel Horse. iv. A 10 cm landing mat is mandatory as a minimum on Vault and Horizontal Bar. v. Open athletes will follow FIG mat regulations with the exception of one 5cm or 10cm landing mat on the Floor and Rings. 4.5 Measurement of Equipment, Specifications, and Supplementary Mats i. All landing mats used on Pommel Horse, Vault, Rings, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar must conform to FIG specifications. ii. 7 Article 5: Judging Responsibilities 5.1 Evaluation of the Routines i. For all categories, the members of the judging panel will be responsible for both D-jury and E-jury unless 4 or more judges are assigned to the event. ii. errors for poor technique, poor body position, etc. are evaluated according to the 2013 FIG Code of Points. iii. The Chair of the Apparatus Jury will be responsible for determining and applying bonus for stuck dismounts to the Final score. Virtuosity and stick bonus will be included in the bonus column iv. The Chair of the Apparatus Jury takes deductions for line, behaviour and apparatus violations from the Final Score. See Article 4 and the current FIG Code of Points. 5.2 Judging Panels i. For National and Regional (Eastern or Western Championships) competitions a minimum of two (2) Judges per panel is required. One FIG or National level should be assigned. ii. Chair of the Competition Jury should hold a current FIG Brevet. 5.3 Scoring Regulations i. With three judges per event, all scores will count. The average of all scores will be calculated and the score will be calculated to 3 decimal places. The average will be truncated to the third decimal and not rounded. ii. When there are four judges the highest and lowest scores are eliminated and the two middle scores are averaged. Article 6: Evaluation of the Exercises and Routine Construction 6.1 D-score Optional routines are judged as per the 2013 FIG Code of Points. 6.2 E-score Subtracting points for deficiencies in technical or aesthetic execution determine the E-score. The definitions of those deductions are as per the 2013 FIG Code of Points: Small error: = 0.1 Medium error: = 0.3 Large error: = 0.5 Fall: = Short Routines (Provincial 4,5 and Elite 4 and Novice) i. It is the duty of the D-jury to determine how many skills were credited. ii. The Chair of the apparatus jury should give the scorer a deduction for the non-technical deductions prior to the Final Score. 8 6.5 Landings i. For all categories except Senior a bonus will be applied to the Final Score for a stuck landing. A stuck landing is defined as a stable landing position with no movement of the feet. ii. The cumulative landing deduction will be maximized at 1.0 for all events. i. The Provincial Pathway is based on the FIG Junior rules. Therefore, gymnasts are also prohibited from performing any of the FIG Junior Restricted Elements Provincial Pathway Rules Version 2. 16 Physical Testing The Physical testing for the Provincial Pathway is recommended for Provincial 3,4, 5 and Open. It is not mandatory, but participation in the testing will help provide the tools necessary to transition into the Elite Pathway. It is at the discretion of each Province to utilize the Physical testing for the Provincial Pathway. Flexibility Routine A for Provincial 3 and 4 and Elite 3 1. Begin with feet together and dowel behind back in under-grip position. Execute inlocate/dislocate of the shoulders and then place dowel on floor. 2. Perform a forward straddle pike roll to middle split (hold 3 sec.) with arms horizontal. 3. Place hands on the floor and turn body to Left leg split (hold 3 sec.) with arms horizontal. 4. Place hands on the floor and turn body to Right leg split (hold 3 sec.) with arms horizontal. 5. Move legs to 90 and reach arms forward to Straddle pike position (hold 3 sec.) 6. Slide Legs backward (through middle split) to prone position. 7. Hold handstand position on stomach with armpits pressed into the floor, hips tight and wrists flexed. (Hold 3 sec.) 8. Execute a ½ turn to your back and swing one arm back into a shoulder hyper-extended position. (Hold 3 sec.) 9. Sit up and forward to a pike stretch position with arms over head (hold 3 sec.) 10. Sit up and lie on back, bend knees and push up to Bridge (Hold 3 sec.) 11. Finish: Lower down and move to an L-sit position with arms horizontal Flexibility Routine B for Provincial 5 and Open and Elite 4, Novice and Junior 1. Begin with feet together and dowel behind back in under-grip position. Execute Inlocate/dislocate of the shoulders and then place dowel on floor. 2. Lift either leg forward as high as possible and hold 3 sec., keep arms horizontal, chest vertical and hips square. 3. Lower leg step forward and execute a front scale with back leg as high as possible. Hold 3 sec. with arms horizontal and chest no lower then horizontal. 4. Move arms forward and kick to handstand (hold 3 sec.) 5. Roll forward and Endo roll to momentary handstand 6. Lower to Straddle L-sit (hold 3 sec) 7. Sit in straddle, place hands behind legs and lift straddled legs upward and place together. Hold V- sit /manna for 3 seconds. 8. Lower legs to 90 Straddle sit and lower trunk to straddle pike stretch with arms forward Hold 3 sec) 9. Slide legs backward through middle split position to prone 10. Hold handstand position on stomach with armpits pressed into the floor, hips tight and wrists flexed. (Hold 3 sec.) 11. Execute a ½ turn to your back and swing one arm back into a shoulder hyper-extended position. (Hold 3 sec.) 12. Sit up and move arms forward to a Pike stretch position. (Hold 3 sec.) 13. Sit back and execute ½ turn to Left leg split (hold 3 sec) with arms horizontal 14. Place hands on the floor and turn body to Middle split (hold 3 sec.) with arms horizontal. 15. Place hands on the floor and turn body to Right leg split (hold 3 sec.) with arms horizontal. 16. Swing back leg forward, lean backwards to back, bend knees and push up to Bridge (Hold 3 sec.) 17. 25 APPENDIX B Qualification Standards for the 2014 Competition Season Elite Pathway recommendations to attend Elite Canada, Canadian Championships and Regional Championships: Elite 3 and 4 athletes should be proficient in achieving the minimum start value on each apparatus in the Compulsory routines and successfully perform the Physical Testing routines to participate at the Canadian Regional Championships. Novice athletes should be proficient in achieving the minimum start value on each apparatus in the Compulsory routines and a minimum score of 30 points in the Physical Testing routines to participate at Elite Canada and Canadian Championships. Junior athletes are recommended to have minimum Start values of 4.5 on all apparatus except Vault, where a minimum 4.4 Start Value is recommended and a minimum score of 32 points in the Physical Testing routines to participate at Elite Canada and Canadian Championships. Senior Athletes are recommended to have minimum Start Values of 5.4 on all apparatus they wish to compete, except Vault, where a minimum 5.2 Start Value is recommended. Provincial Pathway recommendations to attend Canadian Championships and Regional Championships: Provincial 4 and 5 - A maximum of 8 athletes per province may attend Regional Championships. The Team competition format has a maximum of 8 athletes per Team, 6 will compete on each apparatus, and 4 scores will count toward the Team total. Provinces have complete discretion as to the process of selecting their Team. National Open athletes - A maximum of 8 athletes per province may attend Canadian Championships.
