Time and directions for the tour and picnic can be found later in this newsletter. We will have a tool drawing and the winner will get their pick at the October meeting. We have three members shops to tour, so hope to see you at the picnic and tour. I have some brad point drill bits that need sharpening and contacted the two sources listed in the newsletter. Both Arksarban Saw and Tool and Shupert and Son Sharpening Shop were both very helpful. In talking to both they said that brad point bits under one half inch can be purchased new for less than what they would charge to sharpen the bits. Bits over one half inch they would sharpen, but one, and I do not remember which, said that a forstner bit of the same size would do the job. I appreciated their honesty and will probably not send my bits in to sharpen and save a few dollars. Unfortunately in a few weeks the weather will start to turn to the cooler side, which makes me start to thinking about getting back in the woodshop. I usually get in the shop in September to check out supplies such as screws, glue and other items, and check to see if any saw blades or router bits need sharpening. Usually by this time I have had request from family for items they would like made, but By Jerry Krug so far I have had no requests. Maybe this winter I will be able to do some items that I want to work on. Our church is having an auction again in November, so will make some item for the auction. Article is a little short this month. Hope to see you at the picnic and tour. Jerry Another Tour! I have arranged for another tour for the month of October. It will be at the Grau -Wood and Lumber Sawmill in Elkader, IA Mr. Grau will be talking about the management of the timber landowner s timber benefiting him from the recreational, aesthetics and economics, without compromising the health and balance of the timber area. They mark, and selectively harvest the lumber, cutting and selling to markets around the globe. The sawmill and tour will be on site, so very little walking -no timberland walks. 3 Page 3 CVWA Meeting minutes Aug 8,2017 President Jerry Krug, called the meeting to order promptly at 6:30 PM. 65 members, and 5 guests were present. Thank you to Hank Morris, Keith Johns, Steve Robb, and Bill Neal for furnishing treats Announcements: Cattle Congress will be held on Sept Members that want to enter items for display or judged for prizes or ribbons must have items taken to Cattle Congress on Sun. Sept 10, 4-6 PM or Mon Sept. 11, 9-12 AM. For more information please contact Reed Craft. Our annual picnic and shop tours will be on Sun. Sept 10th at 1:00 pm, Island Park, Cedar Falls. Shop Tours will be hosted by Hank Morris, Bob Renz and Dale Barglof. We are still in need of a Treasurer and Vice President. Let Jerry Krug know if you are interested. Minutes August 15, 2017 Members Present: Jerry Krug, Bob Hewlitt, Gene Knief, Dave Turner, Reed Craft, Terry Duckworth, Dennis Gilroy, Dan Webb, Jim Wikle and Mark Jansen. Meeting called to order by President Jerry Krug. Motion made to approve July Treasure report and seconded. Motion carried. Motion made to approve July minutes and seconded. Motion carried. New business: The contract has been signed with the Waterloo Center of Arts. Rent will remain at $ for the next year. Programs: September - picnic October - Bob Behnke - Franklin International, presenting on Tite Bond glues. November - Jim Wikle, Mark Drury December - Christmas Party Corian Projects were made for the Christmas Party. Dan Webb will make 3 more pedestals. Dave Turner volunteered for the new position of Membership Chair. Paul Bailey volunteered to write job descriptions for both Treasurer and Membership positions. We are still in need of a Treasurer and Vice President. Dave is looking into a possible tour with Grau Saw Mill near Elkader. Motion made to adjourn.
