1 San Mateo Ave MILDURA MilduraPrimarySchool OSHC Planning Week Last week all teachers were released in teams at different times of the week. This was for teams to think about where all students are at in their learning and plan appropriate learning for the next ten weeks of school. It was an important time needed for focussing on students and their learning with lots of positive conversations about catering for student needs. Early Arrivals It has been noted that some students are coming to school very early in the morning. I encourage students to come to school after 8.30 each morning. Exiting the school at the end of the day Please keep in mind there are three gates that can be used to enter and leave the school at the start and end of the school day. One near the art room on San Mateo Avenue, The small gate on Twelfth street and the gate at the front of the school. At all times students should be using the crossings to ensure safe crossing of the roads near the school. The office is a busy place just before and after school. Please do not use the office as a pathway to enter and leave the school to reduce the congestion in the office. Pupil Free Days The first two days after the holidays are going to be Pupil Free days. All of our staff will be joining Chaffey Secondary College staff for professional learning. Students will begin term 3 on Wednesday 13th July. David Midgley LOST!! One of our prep student has lost her Medic alert bracelet. If anyone has found a bracelet like this, can you please bring it to the office. Regional Cross Country Congratulations to Xavier Price who finished in 23 rd position at St Arnaud on Tuesday. There were 62 competitors in the 9/10 Boys 2km event. It was an extra special run from Xavier as he is only 8 years old. Job well done Wednesday 27th July is photo day at Mildura Primary School. Pre Paid envelopes will be sent home with students on Wednesday 13th July, which is the first day of term 3 Parents have the choice of ordering online or returning envelopes with correct money to the office. Please put correct money in the envelopes as change will not be given. Each child needs his/ her own envelope. Please remember if you order online, you still must return your envelope to the office. Friday will be preps and depending on quantity may be distributed to other grades. Preps will share bread with the other grades on Tuesday and Thursday. This means the kitchen area will be closed to parents and children after school. The term will continue in the following pattern though changes may occur due to camps etc. Week 1-grades 1 and 2 Week 2- grades 3 and 4 Week 3- grades 5 and 6 GRIP Leadership Conference On Tuesday 24 th May, year 6 leadership students went along to the GRIP conference held at the Grand Hotel. All students engaged in activities to develop their understanding of leadership and how to be an effective leader at Mildura Primary School. Below are some student s reflections on the day. The leadership conference was based on what forms great leaders for our school and how we can grow into positive role models. I am looking forward to making changes to our school. By Malcolm Davies I learnt about the qualities of a leader. I enjoyed the loud noises segment. I look forward to learning more about being a leader. Thank you Mrs Brown and Mr Allan for organising this and Mr Nicholson for driving us to and from the Grand Hotel. By Ethan Bartch At the conference we learnt many things about looking after our school and how to be a good leader. We did lots of fun activities and games. I enjoyed sharing my ideas with other schools and meeting new people. By Mercedes Robertson I learnt that everyone can be a good leader even if you are not labelled a leader. Something I would like to take further is helping others who need it. By Johnny

5 3A How to Heal a Broken Wing Over the past three weeks in the 3A classroom we have been taking an in depth look into the themes and messages that are present in the book How to Heal a Broken Wing by author Bob Graham. Empathy, hope and responsibility have been discussed and demonstrated in the classroom with great thinking and ideas being shown by all students in a collaborative environment. 3A class pet Angel. Angel has been used to teach responsibility and empathy in the classroom. 3A have thoroughly enjoyed the text we have been investigating in our reading lessons.

6 Netball On Friday 27 th May Mildura Primary School Netball teams travelled to Mansell Reserve to compete against Mildura West PS. It was cold and windy and took a while for the girls to warm up. They competed against teams who had a lot of experience playing netball however they continued to compete and never gave up. Both sides need to remember to find space when playing, passing to advantage and passing quicker. Both A and B teams were defeated, scores were 34-1 and Football On Friday we played AFL against Mildura West at Sarah Oval. Mildura West kicked four goals in the first quarter to our one point. In the second quarter they kicked another two goals but we started to play much better. In the second half they scored five goals to our one. The final score was 78 to 8 their way. Our best players were Tyrik, Graham, Charlie, Johnny, Deluca, Michael and Bruce. Overall it was a much better performance than our first game. We look forward to playing against Ranfurly this week. Girls Soccer Last Friday Mildura Primary girls Soccer team played against Mildura West in their second game of Inter School Sports for While all girls played well as a team, the stand outs were May in the mid field and Brandy as striker in the first half. Shakayla and Esmerelda picked up the momentum in the second half and also scored a goal each. The girls need to work on moving forward and calling for the ball. The final score was 6 goals to 0 Mildura s way. Well done girls. Boy s Soccer On Friday the 20 th of May the MPS Boy s Soccer team played against Mildura West Primary at No.3 oval. The first half was played at a very fast tempo with both sides having chances at scoring but no one really dominating the game. With the scoreboard reading nil - nil at halftime it was not the perfect start MPS wanted but there was plenty of soccer still to be played. MPS came out after half time in a very attacking frame of mind. The boys were dominating play. They played a much better style of soccer, moving the ball on quickly and passing the ball to teammates in better positions. They were beginning to produce a real team effort instead of relying on individuals to get the job done. In the second half MPS found the back of the net on 5 occasions. Mildura West was completely outclassed. Aryan Shujaee scored three times, whilst Marc and Malcolm also scored once each. The better players for Mildura were Jayco, Paulo, Tyron and Aryan. It was a great game and both teams played extremely well however on this occasion MPS were far too strong. The team is now looking forward to their final pool match against Ranfurly; a win would then see the boys qualify for the next round. Hockey We travelled to Mildura West last Friday to compete in Interschool Hockey. We lost both games but were happy that we were playing better as a team. In the boys team Kyle scored 2 goals. The boys also defended well and it was an exciting game. The girls had a much better second half with all players getting involved in the game. We are all looking forward to competing against Ranfurly in our next game!
