The reviewed policy acknowledges that individuals may have anaphylactic (severe allergic) reactions to a range of different products and environmental factors. This means that exposure at school may constitute a risk to their health and wellbeing. Whilst it is not possible to totally guarantee that the environment will be completely free of potential hazards the emphasis is on raising awareness and adopting reasonable procedures termed as Allergy and Nut Awareness. We acknowledge that a whole school understanding is required to ensure we have the safest environment possible for our students. The new policy is on our website and included as an attachment in this newsletter. PEDAL PRIX Victoria Park race Coromandel Valley Primary School entered two vehicles into the 6-hour race held last Sunday at Victoria Park. Black Betty, the most recent vehicle acquired by the school, and a rejuvenated Bam-Ba-Lam from previous years were proudly presented with community sponsorship. 173 vehicles started across three categories including primary school and high school competitors. Bam-Ba-Lam placed 60th overall and 6th in cat 1. The team completed 125 laps of the track. This result is fantastic and a credit to the hard work of the team. It was great to hear riders support each other at every stage of the race. Black Betty placed 15th overall and 1st in cat 1. The riders completed 161 laps of the track and Thomas S claimed the fastest lap for this category. Congratulations to all of the riders who have been training very hard and consistently for this event. It was great to see so many parents helping with this event; setting up, pit crew, time keepers, marshals, photographers and supporters. There was a fantastic atmosphere at the Coromandel Valley Primary site as well as a catchy theme song to motivate all. We would like to thank Megan and Larry Resch for their commitment towards managing our Pedal Prix program. Their enthusiasm and organization, as well as many hours of dedication, provide our students with an opportunity to develop team morale, skills and fitness in an enjoyable, competitive environment. Liz Pelling - Principal

4 Channel R Weather Report: Inquiring and Taking Action It has certainly been very cold and foggy this week and yet you might have noticed some reception students dressed in tropical hats and bathers, etc. Reception students have transformed their classrooms into television studios. They are taking it in turns to present weather reports, explaining terms like precipitation, wind speeds, humidity and temperature. Lottie in Mrs Mulkerin's room took action by designing and making a television screen at home for the class. She also dressed up in tropical clothing to creatively present her Darwin weather report. Students in Mrs Gardner and Cornish's room are learning to use a green screen app. They are choosing background images to match their report and uploading it to share with their families via Seesaw. It has been wonderful to see the children take on their role as inquiring scientists and news reporters, developing skills in observing, recording, reporting and predicting changes in the weather. Kylie Gardner, Bev Mulkerin & Carol Cornish Reception

5 Keeping Our Kids Safe Parking rules apply around schools, especially around school entrances. In a school zone, parking restrictions may be stricter than normal. Some schools have designated pick-up and drop-off areas where parking is not allowed but where you can collect your children in a fast and safe way. Drivers must not stop at any time for any reason in an area marked NO STOPPING or NO STANDING or in a bicycle lane. You cannot stop in a NO PARKING zone unless for the immediate purpose of picking up or dropping off passengers. The driver must remain with their vehicle and be in the zone for no more than 2 minutes. If the road is a two-way road, you must position the vehicle parallel, and as near as practicable, to the far left side of the road. If you are not in a marked parking bay, you must position the vehicle at least 1 metre from the closest point of any vehicle in front or any vehicle behind you, so the vehicle does not unreasonably obstruct the path of other vehicles or pedestrians. You must also leave a three metre clear space between your parked vehicle and a continuous white line or median island to provide adequate road space for other vehicles to pass. Yellow No Stopping edge lines may be installed adjacent to driveways where vehicles frequently park and can impede resident access or create sight line hazards. Schools are busy areas, where there are often lots of children, who do not always understand the danger of roads and vehicles. Make sure to take extra care when parking on school grounds and on the roads and streets around the school and follow the signed parking rules at all times. SAPSASA Results Congratulations to Jye, Hudson, Will and Sena for representing Southern Heights at the state football carnival Congratulations to Indi, Rhiannon and Cael for their participation at the State Cross Country

6 Knockout Girls Netball On Thursday 15 th June our Girls knockout netball team played away against Scotch College. After a brief warm up, overlooking the city on the outdoor courts, the girls moved inside for the match. Our Coro team had a great first quarter and established a firm lead. All girls played with great skill and enthusiasm and persisted right through to the final quarter. The final score was Coro 19 goals defeated Scotch College 17 goals. Big thanks to Sophie Hodge and Karin Bradbrook. Well done girls, you played strongly together with a great outcome. We are thrilled to be through to the next round where we will play against Cabra College. Liz Pelling Knockout Football (Soccer) Our boys knockout football team have just played their third-round game, against Craigburn PS. It was a beautiful, sunny day and the boys were again in the mood for kicking goals, putting many into the back of the net. Our very disciplined defence, on the other hand, was not about to entertain the idea of letting their opponents add to the scoresheet. The final score: 7-0. In the past 3 matches the boys have scored 23 goals and conceded only 4. Keep up the good work boys! Our next game is against Cabra College. Thanks again to Mr Waleed Jaseem for coaching them.
