Jeremy was one of three IB representatives involved in the evaluation process. All IB schools are required to take part in a review every 5 years. The IB evaluation process includes a careful analysis of curriculum, resources, teaching practice, assessment, philosophy and community support. Our Yr. 6 and 7 teachers, as well as Specialist teachers, have spent considerable time preparing for this visit, which will ultimately provide us with valuable feedback to improve teaching and learning at our school. We will receive the official report in approximately 6 weeks however feedback received indicated that our school displayed exemplary practice in inquiry, International Mindedness, reflection and student action. Jeremy was very impressed by our SRC executive team and students interviewed on the day. He noted that they had a very good understanding of curriculum requirements and were excellent ambassadors for the all attributes of the Learner Profile. I would like to acknowledge the staff involved; Eve Hooper, Vanessa Hiser, Laura Barnes, Thyrza Veitch, Mike Shaw, Kylie Mueller, Hiro Yamamoto, Bernie DeLyster, Stacey Stutterd and Sheralyn Robertson for sharing their excellent knowledge, documentation and experience. I would also like to thank Andrew Wright, Heidi Hillier, Kate Trengrove and Nicole Dinning for their support when interviewed as part of the review. Big thanks to Mia, Jackson, Hunter and Leya who conducted a school tour for Jeremy and represented us so well. U8 Soccer Carnival On Monday 20 August, the Coromandel Valley U8 s participated in the Southern Districts carnival held at Bowker Street. 7 Yr1 Excursion Adelaide Zoo The year ones are inquiring into how human actions protect or harm environments and the animals that live in them. Our learning has been wonderfully enriched by our visit to the zoo last week. We were first welcomed into the education centre and given an hour lesson about habitats and how animals adapt their bodies to live in them. The instructor used real animals skins to show evidence of animals changing their bodies to fit into a habitat that best suits them. Children were then placed into small groups and asked to become an expert on one type of habitat. They were asked to visit the habitat and answer a variety of questions about this habitat. All information was then used in class to write information reports. The students were then free to see and explore other areas of the zoo within their small groups. The students did a wonderful job of being polite, respectful and representing the school in a positive light. Some students have reported on their favourite part of the trip: Going in the children s zoo - Oliver M Watching the giraffes - Tomas C Seeing the sea lions - Nicholas J Seeing every animal - Tia N Feeling the animal skins Zara I enjoyed the new zoo playground - Peter B Laura Carpenter & Fern Van Loon Thompson
8 Reception Excursion - Cleland Wildlife Park The reception classes visited Cleland Wildlife Park aspartof our inquiryintosharingtheplanet.we spent time exploring the park and recording our thinking and wondering about the animals we encountered. Connect There is something inside the kangaroo. Extend There is joey inside! Challenge I wonder if the kangaroos are talking about us? What is that animal? It looks like a big rat! Connect The koala looks like my toy. Extend The fur is so soft. Challenge I wonder if koalas eat the same food as kangaroos? I learnt what dingos eat and I noticed that they have sharp claws The kangaroos claws are sharp so they can catch stuff
9 Cricket Cricket is starting up again in Term 4. And we need your kids to play! In Term 1 we had a Kanga team (Grades 2 and 3) and a C Grade team (Grades 4 and 5) and we would like to continue those teams. Please remember that cricket is open to students in Year 2 and above. We would also like new players to take up the bat and ball. If your children -girls or boys -would like to play cricket then please encourage them and fill in the nomination form. All Girls Leagues and All Girls Kanga -for the first time a girls only cricket competition has been created and the girls of Coro are invited to join. If your daughter would like to play cricket in a team with other girls please fill in the cricket nomination form. The competition will have 2 divisions for all girl teams to compete against each other -one at Kanga level (Years 2-5) and the other a Girls Only League (Years 5-7). The Kanga level will compete using plastic bats and stumps and soft balls whilst the Girls Only League is more advanced than Kanga and will follow the standard C Grade rules. If we have interested players but not enough for a team of at least 6, we could merge with another school team to ensure that the girls are able to play. Keep in mind that if we can put teams together we will need coaches. And of course there is no requirement for separate girls and boys teams. Girls and boys can play together and we successfully had supportive mixed teams in Term 1 as did many of the schools we played. If your child would like to play with boys, then she can. The all girls teams are simply about creating an environment in which girls feel comfortable playing together. For more information please contact the Cricket Coordinator, Geoff Bradford, at emmabgeoffb@gmail.com. CVPS Soccer Senior Soccer 2018 The Coro seniors year was exciting with a few wins early, on a lot of goals scored, some narrow losses and then all the hard work coming together at the end. On top of a few familiar faces from seasons past, it was great to see a whole lot of new faces adapting to a very fast paced game Rob and I wanted to teach them. The best attribute to the team was the way they worked and played as one. We really tried to push this in trainings as a lot of teams we played has one or two exciting players but we wanted more from them. As we tried to instil in all of them, it was all about the moments or greatness rather than winning games. A great save by the keeper, the defence working together and giving 110% to get back behind the ball, the midfield controlling the game with size and strength and that wild left foot strike resulting in a goal. These are the bits i'll remember for a long time coming. The last game of the season was an absolute highlight when all the laps, sprints, push ups, drills and games of dodgeball came into play and we got the biggest win of the season. We pushed you all hard because we knew deep-down you could do it. Well done team from 2 very proud coaches, Heath & Rob Senior Coaches
10 CVPS Soccer Over the past few months the Coro Primary Under 8 soccer team played 11 matches. During the season they encountered all types of weather from hail to sunshine, but nothing dampened their spirits. The children revelled in their matches, trying hard and learning along the way. It has been great to watch them having fun and developing skills and awareness thatwillhelptheminyearstocome. U8 Soccer 2018 Throughout the season they had huge encouragement from a very supportive group of parents. A big thanks to all the players and their parents. I m looking forward to next year. Dave Merritt -U8 coach This was a great year for the under nines. They started off slow with a loss, but through hard work and lots of training they really started to play well. After a few weeks the team started passing well and scoring goals. By the end of the season they were holding positions, looking for one another, making lots of passes and really playing as a team. The under nines managed to beat a lot of good teams with the last match of the season being a nine-nil win. In the end they only lost three matches, had a few draws and plenty of wins. What a great season, well done team I m very proud of you all, I can t wait for next year. U9 Soccer 2018 Paul Cocks -U9 Coach Another great season from the U11 Soccer Team, with a mix of new and seasoned players we worked on an understanding of the rules including offside, positioning, tactics, resilience and most importantly having fun. The way we worked as a team, defended with passion, worked the ball into space and our use of the wings was really enjoyable for all to watch. A great bunch of kids, it was a privilege to be able to Coach, a big thanks to Sam Hill for assisting with training too. U11 Soccer 2018 Good work guys, keep up with the practise and hope to see you all at training again next year! Rob Nadin -U11 Coach
