2 Evergreen Events Shopping Bus Need help getting back and from the Supermarket? A shopping bus runs on Monday with pickups starting at 9:00am. You will be taken to Balwyn Woolworths before being collected and taken home. The cost is $10.00 and you will need to contact Brenda on to see if you are eligible for this service. Accompanied Appointments Would you feel more comfortable if you were accompanied to and from your appointment? Evergreen Podiatry Every Friday we have a Podiatrist available at Balwyn Evergreen Centre. To make a booking please call the office on *Discounted rates for members* There is a $20.00 fee for failure to notify us if you do not turn up for an appointment. Evergreen now offers this service with competitive prices, so call Brenda on to place a booking today. Skype with your loved ones? Ebay? Sessions are for 1 hour organized for your convenience. Cost per session - $25.00 Please ring for a booking. Evergreen Community Lunch On Wednesday, there is a community lunch at Evergreen as well as special lunches or BBQ's during the year. There is a concert in the afternoon followed by afternoon tea. If that doesn't appeal to you, in the morning there is also an exercise session followed by morning tea. We also have art groups running in the afternoon as well! Lots to do on Wednesday! For more information, please call Brenda on VHS to DVD Service Save your precious memories by converting your old VHS tapes into DVDs. In doing so, it ensures protection of your recorded memories from fading or breakage over time. Bring in your tapes so we can begin converting to DVD and onto a USB stick. 4 Volunteering Drivers Wanted! We are looking for volunteers to drive our outing groups on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These outings usually start at 10am until 4pm. Early starts can also occur. Lunch costs are covered up to a maximum of $20. You will need a Full Drivers Licence and be over 25 years old. If interested, please call Brenda on Planned Activity Group Volunteers Looking for a volunteering role to enrich the wellbeing of others? We are seeking friendly and enthusiastic volunteers for our Planned Activity Groups on Thursdays and Fridays. These groups aim to enhance the lives of our clients by enabling socialisation with others in a safe and open environment. The group begins at 10:30am until 3pm. If interested, please call Brenda on Friendly Visiting Volunteers We are looking for friendly volunteers who want to directly impact the lives of isolated individuals within the community. Friendly visiting involves you spending time with our clients by having a cup of tea at their house or going out for a coffee. Can also include helping walk their dogs or assisting our clients with their shopping or just having a chat together. This is a great opportunity to help our wider community. 5 Senior s Activities FRIENDLY VISITING PROGRAM The Friendly Visiting Program is provided free to elderly persons who are living alone and feel isolated. Those wishing to access this program need to apply to the CHSP program through My Aged Care. Visits from our friendly Volunteers provide social support by engaging in conversation, assistance with their pets, and possible transport to appointments, café visits. All Volunteers have a current Police check and have participated in Volunteer specific training. Balwyn Historical Society Thursday 10 May pm 45 Talbot Avenue, Balwyn Gold coin donation Speaker: Isabel Simpson Topic: The Three M s Mitchell, Melba and Monash Isabel Simpson, an accredited tour guide, will offer an illustrated peek into the lives of this fascinating trio. Isabel has designed and conducted many tours of the City of Melbourne. Cabinet Donations I know many like to rummage through the cabinet for a bargain, but we need some more stock! If you have anything to donate, please bring it in or if you need it picked up, give us a call on Page 5 of 12

6 Active Living Program May 2018 This program provides a day of interesting and varied activities for the frailer members of our Community. Morning tea and lunch are served. The program runs from 10:30am to 3:00pm at the Evergreen Centre on Thursdays and Fridays. Activities include exercises, music, cognitive and physical games and more. If you are interested in knowing more, please ring Brenda on or brenda.dennis@balwynevergreen.org.au Date 3rd May Activities for Thursday Mother s Day The Ladies are going to be pampered with some aromatherapy while the Men are going to partake in some competitive games. 10 th May Theme Park games We are going to have some fun with amusement park games and activities. 17 th May Boardgames, puzzles and games of chance We re going to have some fun and play some fun games in groups ranging from jigsaws to dominoes to games of chance. 24 th May Outing to Burnley Gardens Depending on the weather, we will take the group down to the beautiful Burnley Gardens. Viva Las Vegas We will have some fun with some games of chance and some innocent gambling.. Game Shows We will play some of our favourite game shows and see who reigns as the quiz show master in the group Fruity Friday It s all about delicious fruits today when the group make some jam and have fun games all related to fruit. Enjoy a guided walking tour that takes you on a journey back to the early days of the colony and a glimpse into Melbourne's rich and colorful history. We get to tour the site and learn about this fascinating sport of gliding. Outing 1: DULDIG STUDIO MUSEUM & SCULPTURE GARDEN The former home and artists' studio of sculptor Karl Duldig and his wife, artist and inventor Slawa Duldig. It gives an insight into the cultural life of Melbourne and Australia at a time of enormous change, politically and artistically. We lunch first at Malvernvale Hotel and then visit the studio. 22 nd May 29 th May 29 th May Outing 2: WILLIAM RICKETTS SANCTUARY, MT DANDENONG- EARLY START 9.15AM, WALKING INVOLVED WITH THIS OUTING Within the sanctuary grounds, there are over 90 different sculptures depicting the aboriginal people engaging with the earth in a pure forest setting. Carved into rocks and tree trunks that dot the paths that flow throughout the property, the themes in his artwork reflect his philosophies of connections with human, nature and the earth. Lunch is at the Deli Platter Outing 1: SPENCERS STORE, GEMBROOK Originally built in 1918 this beautiful shop opened its doors as Spencer and Sons Store, a general and hardware store. Throughout the years the historic building has seen many incarnations, since 2015 it was renamed Spencers Store serving delicious breakfasts, lunches and cakes. Outing 2: THE GIPPY GOAT CAFÉ, YARRAGON, EARLY START 9.30AM Come and enjoy the food at this little café where they farm goats and produce many goat products. Page 8 of 12

The property incorporates a Winery and Cellar Door, a Function and Convention Centre and an A la Carte Restaurant. There is a good choice of options in the seniors menu. 17 th May PIONEERS PARK, BERWICK Pioneers Park is a relaxed, casual, fully licensed dining venue in beautiful Pioneers Park in central Berwick Village. The restaurant is on the site of the Old Berwick Primary school. The menu is large and varied with plenty of savoury and sweet treats to eat. 24 th May DUCK DUCK GOOSE & LARDER, KYNETON, EARLY START 9.30AM Duck Duck Goose & Larder is a vibrant light-filled north-facing cafe serving great coffee, breakfast, lunches and in-between snacks. The Larder is stocked full of all necessary provision plus a wide selection of specialty lines sure to inspire any cook. The Providore is full of wonderful products including fresh local flowers, gift books, kitchenware, candles, wire-ware and baskets. 31 st May THAT S AMORE, THOMASTOWN This artisan cheese maker has now opened a retail outlet and café; they have been making their cheeses since 2008 winning awards for many of their cheeses.
