1 Annual Report 2017 Established 1884 Affiliated with: Mid Gippsland Football League Mid Gippsland Netball Association Churchill Indoor Netball Association Central Gippsland Junior Football League Presented to Members at the 2017 Annual General Meeting Thursday October at the Yinnar Community Hotel Function Room

2 About Yinnar & this report According to Wikipedia: Yinnar is a tranquil rural township located in the Latrobe Valley, in central Gippsland, Victoria. At the 2010 Census, Yinnar (township and district) had a population of 860. The origin of the name Yinnar is believed to have been derived from the Aboriginal term yinnar, meaning woman. According to the 2016 Australian Census, Yinnar has a population of 860 making it the 3rd smallest population of the 10 MGFL / MGNA Clubs. We are proud of our sustained performance both on and off the field that sees us ranked consistently higher than communities with significantly greater population bases from which to draw players, members, supporters and sponsors. Melbourne Yinnar This population reality and the challenge to secure the financial and people resources required to operate a consistently competitive level underpins the Club objective to be the Club of choice for the Yinnar community and neighbouring communities. As a Club, we take pride in producing an Annual Report that will promote the Club and community, and serve as a permanent record and reminder of our on and off field achievements over the season. We strive to improve its content and presentation every year, hopefully this is apparent to its readers. The Club Committee particularly thanks Deb Coady, for some very special and memorable photos that makes the Annual Report such a great pictorial record of an enjoyable year for so many. 6 Foreword The aim of the Annual Report is to enable the Club Committee to report to members, sponsors and other key stakeholders on the performance of the Club over the 2017 football and netball season has been another successful year for the Club. It is a key aim of the Club Committee to improve the management of specific areas where there is an opportunity to do so, and manage all other Club operations to at least the standard of prior seasons. The future of the Club is dependent upon maintaining strong links with our community and offering recreation and leisure opportunities to all members of the Yinnar & district community. Every endeavour has been made to ensure the historical and statistical accuracy of this report. Should any reader be aware of an inaccuracy, or may assist with providing missing information, it would be greatly appreciated if the Club Secretary is informed. Editor s note: thanks to the many people who contributed photos for the Annual Report. We had hundreds to choose from, which made the task difficult to trim down to a reasonable amount. As a guide, the following took priority for inclusion: Teams playing in grand finals Award winners, at Club and League level Player match milestones Special functions and events Highlights from the year Junior team photos The Club Committee hopes you find the Annual Report useful and informative reading. 8 President s Report position to offer over 400 members the opportunities we do. To all our amazing players, coaches and their support teams your efforts in 2017 have been terrific and given us a very solid foundation to attack next season. a huge thankyou for your efforts and congratulations on your achievements. From Peter Linton, Club President On behalf of the Club Committee, I am extremely pleased to present the Yinnar Football & Netball Club s 134th annual report to our life members, members, sponsors and supporters for season With a few changes on the Committee and coaching staff, everyone was excited for what lay ahead in I m sure we wouldn t have too many complaints with how the season panned out. Having most of our teams (13 out of 15) playing off in the finals, 2017 should be considered a very successful season and a huge thankyou must go out to all the players, coaches and their support teams. Having 6 teams making it through to the Grand Final and picking up a couple of Premierships in the Reserves and Under 11 Netball, was a pleasing way to wrap up the Season. Successful football and netball Clubs take many hours of hard work from many volunteers. I d now like to acknowledge some outstanding efforts from the year. A huge thanks to the Club Executive (Dee Buckley, Peter Quigley, Dean Suares and Andrew Jenkins) who have had a number of challenges through the year and have been rock-solid in their support for each other, making timely decisions that have benefitted our Club. Also, the hard-working Club Committee for their selfless efforts throughout the year and all other Club volunteers. Without your tireless work our Club would not be in the position it currently is today. Enormous thanks to all our valued sponsors, who have once again supported the Yinnar Football & Netball Club. Without your financial support, we would not be in a Our Past Players and Officials Committee, who take on a number of tasks around the Club, helping out with match day bar, raffles, reserves umpiring, vouchers that assist our young footballers and netballers, certificates for senior debutantes and, of course the hugely successful Premiership reunions. Our facilities are the envy of many other Clubs / Leagues and this is only possible by the outstanding work performed by the Yinnar Recreation Reserve Committee of Management, who raise the bar every year. We should all be proud of our exceptional facilities and acknowledge this hard-working team. Our Thursday night ladies get better and better! Now averaging 80 meals each Thursday night! (with almost 150 before the Grand Final). Great to see so many families and past players coming along and enjoying the atmosphere! Thanks ladies. I would like to congratulate Barry Bennett, Peter Fox and Mario Monacella who were awarded Life Membership this season. Each of these gentlemen have contributed decades of outstanding service to our Club. Also, our hard-working recipient of the Ross Sewell, Best Club person award Sheryrn Linton. 21 AFL VICTORIA Footies Fight Against Ice The AFL Gippsland initiative Footy s Fight Against Ice for 2017 was launched at the YFNC and featured Collingwood premiership player Gavin Crosisca as guest speaker. The issue of drug and alcohol use in rural and regional communities is one that requires everybody doing what they can, and the Club is proud to work closely with AFL Gippsland, Gippsport and Victoria Police on this initiative. GippSport, Victoria Police and McDonald s Family Restaurants combine to make the Most Disciplined Player program possible for junior sporting clubs across Gippsland. The program sees players win a most disciplined award weekly, and one player judged Most Disciplined in the under 10/12/14/16/18 football grades at the end of the season. GIPPSPORT VIC POLICE & MCDONALDS Most Disciplined Player Program Captains Camp was developed in 2012 by a team of passionate experts in sport, youth empowerment, resilience and transformational leadership. 22 New Initiatives As part of the objective to continually improve Club operations and work toward embedding the YFNC as the Club of Choice for our community, it is essential that new ideas, opportunities and initiatives be considered annually. These initiatives are implemented, reviewed and if assessed as beneficial for the success of the Club, become part of business as usual either as they were implemented, or tweaked to achieve the best possible outcome for our Club and community. New initiatives for 2017 included: Work Solutions Gippsland, specialist employment service Senior football teams workshop and leadership team AFL Quality Club Program Tidy HQ implementation Federation Training, hosting a sports management intern Under 14 & senior football teams buddy program Individual player sponsor program refer Sponsors section for information) Joining the Sports Environment Alliance SPORTS ENVIRONMENT ALLIANCE The Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) is committed to do more with less so we can continue to have places to play. The SEA finds value in sharing knowledge and building networks to enhance the industry s engagement in the clean economy to deal with changes in our natural environment. SEA Vision Our vision is to empower the sport industry to better engage with the circular economy. SEA Mission We live by the mission of leading, educating, and inspiring our sport community members to live, work, play, and spectate more sustainably in Australasia. The waste & recycling project undertaken at the Yinnar Recreation Reserve between partners YFNC, YRR, Latrobe City Council and Keep Australia Beautiful strongly aligns with the Vision and Mission of the Sports Environment Alliance. The project has seen a massive diversion of waste diverted from landfill and recycled. The picture below provides a really good indication of the change achieved previously all yellow top bin waste would go to landfill, it is now recycled. 23 WORK SOLUTIONS GIPPSLAND PARTNERSHIP As part of a unique partnership between Work Solutions Gippsland and Workforce Extensions, the Club had the pleasure of hosting Work Solutions Gippsland s client, Rose, in our kitchen and canteen and helping with the preparation of Thursday night dinners for most of the 2017 season. Rose has been a welcome and hugely popular addition to the Club this year; her work ethic in the kitchen has been outstanding and the skills she has developed after years of experience in the hospitality industry have really lightened the load of our many wonderful kitchen & canteen volunteers throughout the 2017 season. We d like to thank Rose for her contribution to the Club this year, and we hope to see her again next year. Work Solutions Gippsland is a specialist employment service whose prime focus is to assist jobseekers with a disability, injury or health condition, to gain and maintain employment in the mainstream workforce. Work Solutions Gippsland is locally owned, and can provide business with skilled and motivated staff. They work hard to ensure the right person is matched to a specific business and their service is free of charge, and the YFNC are proud to recommend their services. The Club has certainly enjoyed the rewards of employing a person with a disability from our community. TIDY HQ IMPLEMENTATION/ BACHELOR OF SPORTS MANAGEMENT INTERN PLACEMENT For some time, the Club had been searching for a simple, easily accessible and multi-user software platform that would make the task of running the Club for our volunteers easier. Tidy HQ was recommended by AFL Victoria and the rest is history. Just prior to commencing Tidy HQ implementation, and following discussion with AFL Gippsland on the value of partnering with Federation Training to host a sports management intern (Bachelor of Sports Management), the Club made a commitment to host an intern placement for 500 hours of work placement. The placement ended up being Stuart Goddard, who then took on YFNC Tidy HQ implementation. Stu is now regarded as one of the most knowledgeable Tidy HQ users, is working full time with AFL Gippsland and has a bright future ahead of him. The following benefits have been realised through implementing Tidy HQ: A comprehensive database of contacts has been established Membership processing and payment is now totally on-line Meeting agendas / minutes / actions are now simple and easy to manage and are all on line The Clubs webpage forms part of Tidy HQ and is fully integrated with other elements of the platform Over 25 years of annual reports are accessible via the web page Event promotion and ticketing is now on-line Integrated finances Remote access for all Committee members enabling document sharing and access to systems such as and all documents etc. Page 23

24 New Initiatives AFL QUALITY CLUB PROGRAM The Australian Football League recognises that Club volunteers and administrators make a significant contribution to Australian Football. They also recognise that the demands on Club volunteers and administrators are increasing along with the need for Clubs to operate in a professional manner. The AFL Community Club Improvement Program has been specifically developed to assist Clubs to examine their current operations and identify areas for improvement. Benefits of being involved in the program include: Creating a best practice guide for the current Committee and all future Committees; Minimising the risks associated with running a sporting Club; Providing an atmosphere that will help attract new participants, officials and members; Providing an environment that will be attractive to sponsors/partners and help your Club broaden its appeal within the wider community. Through this program Clubs may receive recognition for good/excellent Club administration and are assessed as either: Quality Club - A level to recognise good Club administration Gold Quality Club - A level to recognise excellent Club administration The Club went through the Quality Club accreditation process early in the 2017 season. The result was attainment of the AFL Gold Quality Club, 1 of only 12 in Victoria. Yinnar Football & Netball Club 2016 Annual Report, our 134th year

25 SENIOR FOOTBALL TEAMS WORKSHOP & LEADERSHIP TEAM Tom McQualter Consulting (TMCQ) and YFNC senior premiership player was invited to facilitate a session with the senior football group on Saturday 4 February 2017 as part of the pre-season planning day. The session was focused on creating a Vision and a set of agreed behaviors for the playing group. These behaviors were not about football. Rather, they were aimed at establishing a culture within the Club that set us up to succeed both as a team, but more importantly as an entire Club. The players wanted to create an environment that was focussed on putting the Club in the best position to succeed on and off the field. The planning workshop established a number of initiatives determined by the playing group, including: Non negotiable behaviours We will act professionally at all times in Club uniform and when at the Club We will not tolerate unsportsmanlike behaviour on or off the field We will endeavour to put the Club and team first (family etc.) We will hold each other accountable to the Club and team values We will be united to meet our goals We will be honest We will make no exceptions every player, every time We will have each others back on the field We will respect each other on and off GIPPSPORT the field VIC POLICE & MCDONALDS We will not use our phones in the change rooms after Most games Disciplined Player Program Our brand - as a Club and playing group One Club One Goal Be our Best Team First Unity Commitment United In. 26 New Initiatives UNDER 14 / SENIOR PLAYER BUDDY PROGRAM New for 2017, the Under 14 / Senior Buddy Program was initiated by our Junior Football Committee and Senior Playing Group to assist in the achievement of a key Club guiding principle: Take a whole of Club approach to the development of football and netball, to ensure our Club s future is as far as possible generated from within. What we would envisage to achieve An easier pathway for our Under 14 players to enter the senior ranks. Having this may sway in the future any player 50/50 of leaving a reason to stay with football and within our Club. A more comfortable transition for parents, which through this program may want to be more involved within the Club, i.e. supporter/volunteer/sponsor. Key notes for the season Match up players with similar positions flank/flank, rover/rover etc. Buddy Day 27 May, home game against Mirboo Nth (both teams). Under 14 s to have some training sessions on the Western Oval and to utilise the WO change rooms on these occasions. Incorporate this to match up with seniors warm ups prior to leaving field. Under 14 s to have some training sessions with the Under 16 teams. Over the course of the season, try to have the Under 14 s mingle with their buddy as much as possible. Key dates Saturday 1st April Under 14 s to train at midday on the Eastern Oval, then as a group make their way over to the pre match meeting with the seniors and then watch the season opener against Boolarra. Wednesday 12th April training session and tea afterwards with the seniors. Training to start at 18:00 on this night for Under 14 s. Saturday 27th May Buddy Day. A chance for the senior group as a whole to support their buddies and at the quarter time and half time intervals have a chat about their game. Under 14 s will reciprocate this later in the day when the seniors play. Overall, a great initiative that we believe will see a smoother transition for our players from the Central Gippsland (10/12/14) to Mid Gippsland (16/18) competition teams. 41 Financial Statement 2017 saw new Treasurer Andrew Jenkins take on the role from the long serving Club stalwart in Sonia Williams. The Treasures job isn t an easy one at the best of times and this season saw some new challenges in the form of migrating our finances to Tidy HQ and an early hiccup with the operation of PayPal, which we have ditched in favour of the easy to use Strip on line payment system. Tidy HQ has resulted in a significant part of the Treasurers cash management function moving to on-line payments, and with the Club clothing line moving to Tidy HQ s Shop function in 2018, we envisage the job will become increasingly simpler and take less highly valued volunteer time. We do really thank Andrew for his enormous first year contribution, and look forward to the benefits of this challenging year paying dividends in 2018 and beyond. The Club was able to report a reasonable trading profit on turnover in excess of $260k. It is important the Club continues to make a profit so that in turn it can invest in improving our facilities for the benefit of our player, members, supporters, volunteers and the Yinnar community. The Club invested just on $15k in 2017 improving equipment and facilities that are integral to ensuring the environment in which our players and volunteers function is as good as it can be. These capital projects and purchases are detailed elsewhere in this report. Page 41

Special thanks to all sponsors, their continued commitment and partnership with the Club and community has ensured that football and netball prospers. Our sponsors continue to grow year after year and the level of support provided is outstanding. In response to increased support from our sponsors, and to reflect the emergence of a number of business wanting to contribute at a level that exceeds the Major Sponsor package, the Club refined its packages for 2017 by introducing a new sponsorship structure. 45 Recognising Our Volunteers The Club is fortunate to have a large number of people that willingly put up their hand to make sure what needs to be done week in week out gets done and consistently. It is the aim of the Club Committee and Sub Committees to recruit retain and recognise as many volunteers as possible to assist in operation of the Club so as to spread the workload and not place too great a load on any one person, hopefully leading to a longer term involvement from all participating. Some of the ways that the Club recognises our volunteers are: Worker of the Week in the MGFL Spectator Invitations to the Club Annual Luncheon The annual Appreciation Function, held prior to the AGM The Club also utlilises the opportunity to nominate its coaches and volunteers for League & Association awards, with the following nominations for 2017: MGFL Volunteer of the Year, the Barry McKenzie Award Janelle Szkwarek Dee Hendrikse a finalist in the AFL Gippsland Coaches Association Volunteer of the Year Craig Flanigan a finalist in the AFL Gippsland Coaches Association Youth Coach of the Year Page 45

46 Capital Works, Facility & Equipment Improvements The Club continued its commitment to the upgrade of facilities at the Yinnar Recreation Reserve in partnership with the Committee of Management and other user groups. This will ensure that quality facilities are provided for the benefit of players, members, supporters and the Yinnar community on an ongoing basis. In 1998, the Club established the Facilities & Equipment Improvement Fund to ensure that funds are set aside to provide for future upgrade works. Any operating profit made on an annual basis is put in to the fund, as well as any once off moneys received. The Facilities & Equipment Improvement Fund was boosted at the end of the 2016 season through the Club operating the booth at the MGFL Grand Final. All proceeds from this once in a decade opportunity were used to improve facilities for our players, members and volunteers. Key projects and purchases through 2017 included: Western Oval pitch bench replacement project joint venture between YFNC, Yinnar Recreation Reserve Committee, Morwell Tigers Yinnar Cricket Club with principal project funding from the Federal Government s Building Stronger Regions Program and Latrobe City Council Community Grants Program Kitchen equipment new deep fryer, large freezer, new fridge & freezer units (in conjunction with the Yinnar Recreation Reserve Committee) Club office new desktop computer & fridge Football match day office installation of a new desk top computer with interest access (enables on line results processing) Pre-match meeting area (former gym area) new carpet and tiered seating Trainers room new carpet & sink unit Home change rooms installation of a new wood fired heater (in conjunction with playing group) Eastern oval flag pole installation courtesy of Trade Weld New joinery storage cupboards to support the catering teams operation. 47 Yinnar Recreation Reserve The Yinnar Recreation Reserve Committee of Management provides a high standard of facilities for all members, players and supporters to enjoy. The Committee of Management is seen as a progressive group that works to continually improve facilities for user groups and the community. The Club acknowledges and appreciates the work of the Committee of Management, and in particular, the contribution made by Chris Long, Gordon Lont, Don Barnes, Shane Quigley & Jeff Knowles whose efforts directly assist and support our players and Club. As part of its responsibility as a user group of the Yinnar Recreation Reserve, the Club must undertake all cleaning and rubbish removal tasks. Thanks to the senior and reserve football players who were rostered in teams to complete post match change room cleaning, social room cleaning, and rubbish removal for the whole Reserve. The player s contribution was appreciated, as are all volunteers who contribute to this magnificent facility. This year saw Lee Clarke take on the role of organising maintenance repair works across our facilities. The response, professionalism and organisation and which Lee applied to this role was simply outstanding, and we thank him and all the tradies he mustered to lend a hand first class effort from all. Page 47

48 Social Functions The year saw a fresh focus on social functions, led by Jarrod Raun, Molly Hickey & Terri Aitken, with numerous volunteers assisting along the way. The social calendar included some formal functions and events, supported by a number of very relaxing post match evenings in the social rooms with music supplied by various local talented musicians. The year s functions and events included: March 4, season launch & family day April 1, live music April 29, Trivia Quiz May 13, live music June 3, Black & White Ball July 22, Christmas in July September 9 (MGFL / MGNA Grand Final), live music September 15, Senior Football & Netball Presentation function Yinnar Football & Netball Club 2016 Annual Report, our 134th year

49 Catering Operations A key feature of creating a positive, healthy and welcoming environment is providing nutritious and tasty meals for our players and volunteers, at functions / events / training / match days. We may well be biased, but it is a fact we have the best catering crew of any Club in Gippsland. Every week during the season, our players come off the track to enjoy a home cooked 2-course meal that would be the envy of any club. Similarly, the canteen operations of a home match are just first class, and for that we have many volunteers to thank. The core kitchen crew comprises Sheryrn Linton, Dee Hendrikse, Trish Hicks, Julie Monacella, Jennie Davey, Sharon Kearns, Kerry Alexander, Lorna Sutcliffe and Leanne Linton along with a significant group of volunteers. Probably no coincidence that Sheryrn was recognised through being judged the Ross Sewell Memorial Best Club person and Dee a finalist in the AFL Gippsland Volunteer of the Year! Add to this the various netballers and footballers who pitch in our catering operations are reflective of the importance placed on one of our key guiding principles: Provide an accessible, welcoming, inclusive and rewarding environment for all people associated with our Club Thanks to everyone who assisted through donating food for the various functions and events, spent time in the kitchen as a volunteer, those that set up, cleaned up and ate up a truly exceptional effort from all. 50 Past Players & Officals Committee From Rod Couling, Committee President Well we ve had another busy year highlighted by our reunion celebrating the 50 year anniversary of the 1967 senior and reserves football premierships along with the girls from the 2007 D grade netball team. It was fantastic to see 60 to 70 players from yesteryear enjoying a catch up over a few beers and a magnificent lunch provided by our dedicated ladies. Our Committee once again recognised former junior players who played their first senior football or A grade netball game. Congratulations to Sam Finlay, Eamon Suares, Daniel Yates Tayla Cheffers and Sophie Lecchino on playing at the highest level possible at our Club. These young players are the future of this great Club and we wish them success and a long career at Yinnar. The booth bar once again proved to be a very popular place to watch the footy. Thanks to all the Committee members who helped out during the year and a special mention to booth bar manager Mick Kearns for setting up the bar every home game. Well done Mick. This year was also made easier by the great support from Chris Stanlake and Lee Clarke. We were also very blessed on the odd occasion to be graced by the presence of Paul Buckley and Shane Quigley. Thanks to all you guys for your efforts throughout the year. A big thank you also must go to the many regulars (you know who you are) who supported us all year with very generous donations and support of the raffle. Thanks again to Shane Quigley for providing the trailer of wood for the reunion day. This year again saw the return of the Wheels Wheel which once again proved very popular and lucrative for the Past Players and Officials Committee. A big thank you to all who played along adding to a real positive atmosphere on the deck. Thanks again to Dean (the Wheel) Suares for embracing it with such enthusiasm. It will return in Our Junior Development fund, that we established a couple of years ago, has progressed very well, leaving us in a very good financial position. We look forward to working with the junior football and netball Committees next year to work out the most productive way to spend these funds. In the coming weeks we will be providing personalised sports bags to our top age under 14 players as an incentive to sign up for the under 16s next year. Let s hope we can entice all these boys to stay at our Club, as they are our future senior players. Next year we will also be handing out a similar incentive to our junior netballer girls. This year the Club introduced a new operating platform TidyHQ. We are now able to include past players and officials as members of TidyHQ, enabling us to input contact details which will make communication much easier. If you are a past player or official with the Club, please contact a current Committee member or the Club direct, and we will set up your membership. Finally, thank you to our Committee, Rod Couling, Shane Quigley, Paul Buckley, Chris Stanlake, Andrew Nardino, Mick Kearns, Dean Suares, Sonia Williams and Lee Clarke. I know we are a fairly relaxed type of Committee but don t under estimate what we have achieved this year. You should all be proud of your contribution to our great Club. Thank you all and look forward to seeing you all again next year. At this stage the date for our PP&O AGM has not been decided but It would be great to see some new faces there so we can form another strong Committee for next year. 52 Auskick From Brent Ludlow, Auskick Coordinator 2017 was another fun year with the Auskickers, some fresh Sunday morning starts but didn t need to retreat to the sheds, keeping them moving but still a few chilly kids! All in all most mornings turned out nice and sunny, parents always there to help and we all got plenty of laughs provided by the kids with the different activities, my 3rd and last year watching the kids grow and improving with Auskick and looking forward to watching them develop through the juniors into the seniors, also thanks for the support from the Club, cheers Ludsy. Our 2017 Auskickers were: Oliver Blair Thomas Blake Billy Bremner Bailey Dalla Valle Aiden Goodwin Xavier Jones Oakley Kinderman Harry Ludlow Finn Mahoney Sonny Mahoney Patrick Mills Jackson O Hara Archer Poole Riley Prestipino Kobey Ross Harry Ryan Caleb Smith Trey St Ellen Teddy Try Harvey Vanderzalm Nicholas Walsh Maddison Williams Hayden Winters Dusty Young And a great way to finish the season on a high - the Yinnar Auskickers were fortunate to have the opportunity to play a grid match at this years VFL grand final at Etihad Stadium. Kids had a great time, thanks to Ludsy, AFL Gippsland and the AFL Auskick Program for making it all happen. Yinnar Football & Netball Club 2016 Annual Report, our 134th year

53 Central Gippsland Junior Football League Teams UNDER 10, UNDER 12 & UNDER 14 From Scott McCafferty, Ryan Walsh & Guy Cheffers, Club CGJFL Committee Executive 2017 was another successful year both on and off the field. Although we did not come home with a flag in any of the three grades, we believe we have come so much further as a Club. Our volunteers are beginning to grow in numbers and the support shown through all our supporters have been second to none. The whole Club has been again a showcase to others in the competition who remain to be envious of the Yinnar Football & Netball Club. This year we have had a change in the Club s hierarchy scrapping the title of President with Scott, Ryan and Guy sharing the load as the U10,12,14 Executives. There were many benefits to this change which saw a more even spread of roles and had our players reap some further rewards off the field that had not been achieved in the past. Once again Jaclyn McCafferty Co-ordinated the canteen and her work needs to be again recognised. Jackie maintained a solid work ethic throughout the entire season including the MGFL Interleague and CGJFL finals and we are forever grateful of her hard work this season. Along with Jackie, her stable and dedicated crew of Marcelle and Renata Makepeace, Melissa Chessum, Mel Dove and not forgetting Sienna Cheffers, Meg Renwick, Kym Walsh, and Natalie Cheffers whom all did an amazing power of work this season also. Thank you very much ladies, your work has been greatly appreciated by us all. Thank you again to our ground management team consisting of Dean VanDerMeer, Brendan Chessum, Jason Seath and Brian Renwick. The mowing and lines (which were always better than the western oval) including the surrounds clean ups were always an absolute showcase. The Club thanks you very much for your continuing hard work and dedication. Our Under 14 grade were this year teamed up with a Buddy from the Senior playing group and although The first year of any new program will always need the screws tightened to adjust it to make it right. We believe that we are on the right path for this program to become a future pathway to the success of the Yinnar Football & Netball Club. There were many positives in this new initiative, with many of our Under 14 boys assisting in running water etc. for the seniors over the course of the season and there were new faces watching our boys and girls play on a Saturday or Sunday morning from the senior playing group. There are also many thanks to go out to parent helpers for this year, and they are for our Field, Goal, Boundary Umpires and the Time Keepers. This year Ryan Walsh had the unenviable job of cleaning our public toilets each week and what a great job he did. To our Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and Team Managers for providing a positive environment for our players to participate in each week. Thank you to the Past Players & Officials Committee for their ongoing support through their presentation of a Club Voucher to our top age U14 players. This is a wonderful initiative that will help retain our players, while encouraging them and their parents to transition from the junior ranks through to the seniors. Also, a new initiative this year was the start of the Past Players and Officials Clubman Award for the U10,12,14 s, this is a very important award to have and we thank you for having this to award our kids who go above and beyond to help this Club. Thanks for the opportunity to be part of this great Club and look forward to Page 53

58 Mid Gippsland Football League Teams SENIORS, RESERVES, UNDER 18 & UNDER 16 From: Dean Suares, Vice President Football For the 4th consecutive year we had all four of our MGFL teams play off in the finals series, once again another exciting season for the Club. Craig (Bluey) Flanigan in his final year of coaching led the 4ths side to the grand final only to fall just short of success. Bluey with his many years of junior coaching experience got the best out of this group, considering we were again light on with numbers and we thank the Under 14 boys who stepped up each week, the 4ths had a barn storming finals series to fall short at the end by a goal, a testament to the belief and hard work of Bluey and his team of volunteers. A fantastic season. Ken Hutchinson stepped up this year and took on the 3rds side, this was never going to be an easy task as we were short of numbers from the start of the season, Ken and his assistants senior players Tyler Chisholm and Jarred Henderson worked tirelessly each week to ensure we fielded a side every game. We again thank the boys from the 4ths who stepped up each week to help out, with minimal numbers the 3rds still managed to play finals football with a number of players ready to take the next step into the senior sides, well done Ken and his able volunteers in what was a lot of hard work. James Mills again coached the reserves and had a terrific season, with the seniors hit by injuries James lost players most weeks but still finished top three and played off in another finals series with the right mix of youth and experience. The reserves dropped their first final and came through the hard way topping it off with a grand final victory. James had plenty of support on and off the field and worked hand in hand with senior coach Jamie Aitken to achieve the ultimate success, well-done James. Jamie Aitken took on the senior coaching position as a first-year coach, Jamie recruited some quality people and players to assist him on and off the field, this translated into achieving their goal of a top 3 finish after the home and away season. After two great finals wins the side progressed through to the grand final only to fall agonizing short. Disappointing as it was we had an up and down year with many injuries and a form slump before the finals. Jamie acquitted himself well in his first year of coaching with able support from his group of volunteer s week in and week out, we look forward to going one better in season 2018 Finally a big thank you to all the tireless work done by all our volunteers who assist in getting these sides onto the field each week, these teams would not be competitive without your wonderful support. 65 Mid Gippsland Netball League Teams A GRADE, B GRADE, C GRADE, D GRADE, UNDER 17, UNDER 15 From Deirdre Buckley, Club MGNA Committee President Our season for 2017 has finished, with 4 out of 6 teams reaching finals. Our coaches were Halie McColl, A Grade, Hannah Mills, B grade, Sharyn Henry, C grade, Brooke Mills, D grade, Sue Hutchinson, 17 s and Cathy Hutchinson, 15s. These coaches are credit to themselves; our Club wouldn t be as strong in the league without their commitment, dedication, enthusiasm towards our players and club. Were very lucky to have them at our Club. We struggled with numbers this year, given major injuries to players, pregnancies, girls shifting away & work commitments. We therefore called on our juniors to play senior netball this year, which was a great advantage to the senior sides given the high calibre of juniors we have in the Club. B,C,D & 17s made finals this year, with our 17s going the whole way to the Grand final, but unfortunately losing on the day. Congratulations to Mary Corponi winning D grade Best and Fairest, also Hollie Bugeja 3rd in B grade for Mid Gippsland Football Netball League We also had numerous girls play in State & Regional Leagues, Mid Gippsland Squad, congratulations girls. Thank you to Zoe Hibbert our Club umpire who umpired our 15s & 17s nearly every week. A big thank you to Jenny Mills, who is a Life member of our Club, who helped us out with umpiring A & B nearly all season. Thank you to parents that brought our players to training, game day, filling water bottles, scoring, time keeping and helping in canteen. Our senior netballers, a very special thank you for doing canteen duty Saturday mornings, scoring, time keeping, help pack up courts at end of training and game day. Our Club is successful due to the help of the Netball Committee, Louise Quigley, Vice President, Janelle Szkwarek, Secretary, Sharon Kearns, Treasurer, General Committee, Pauline Couling, Linda Huzier, Leanne Linton, Leanne Dalton, so a big thank you to everyone. Our netballers strength and commitment is becoming greater every year. This is a reflection on how great our Club is and hopefully keep improving in the future years. I sincerely thank everyone for all your contribution, in which was a very hard season for our Club, but we didn t give up, which shows the how strong this Club is. Thank you, Dee. Page 65

The u/11 team were undefeated in the home and away season, but lost to Yarram in the first final. They won the preliminary final convincingly and then went on to win the Grand Final against Yarram. The Under 13 s finished third on the ladder and lost the qualifying final by one point to Churchill 2. Two Under 13 players, Annie Burrows and Ella McCulloch were identified by talent scouts and have been invited to try out for Gippsland Netball Academy in September. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Net Poole who was our CINA Administrator. Net did extensive work behind the scenes with the administration and game day set up. I would also like to thank Georgia Hutchinson who shared her knowledge and enthusiasm with both the Under 11 and Under 13 girls. Finally I would also like to thank the parents who assisted at training, scoring of matches and generally supported the girls playing netball Award Winners 11 & UNDER Best & Fairest Runner Up Best & Fairest Coaches Award 13 & UNDER Best & Fairest Runner Up Best & Fairest Coaches Award Mia Cheffers & Sophie Foster Claire Thorburn Meg Renwick Ella McCulloch Annabelle Burrows Verity Jeffrey Page 71
